Set along the back streets, by the tennis courts and park on Union Street, this little café is hidden away, in a quiet corner, for a quiet coffee and meal. It serves up good coffee and
Quaint little cafe in the South east of Melbourne, doing great coffee, and honest food.
It's been here for a few years, and has stood the test of time. I love that they offer filter coffee, and have something for everyone on the menu.
Small little cafe tucked away in suburbia but lovely fresh food and plenty of it! I had the smashed avo and it was an interesting take on it, especially with the pumpkin. Staff were friendly and I enjoyed my experience.
Came here yesterday with a really cranky toddler and the staff could not have been more warm and understanding. Much appreciated will be back. Food and coffee very enjoyable.
Came to Gardiner & Feild for a lazy sunday lunch and had the best Bruschetta i've ever had in my life with 2 amazing cups of coffee. Amazing staff, so friendly & welcoming. Was a 'home' feel - very comfortable & the ambience was great. One of my favourite places in Melbourne
Excellent menu, service, ambiance and food. Visited this morning for brunch. Sat outside in Melbourne Spring sunshine with friends. Quiet street across from Park. Dog friendly.
My favourite cafe in the area. I always get friends to meet me here for catch ups. The food is amazing and service is always attentive. My go to on the menu are the breakfast tacos, they are so tasty! Also the daily waffle special is a must for any sweet tooth out there. They are amazing and decadent. Keep up the awesome work Gardiner and Field!
Gorgeous little neighbourhood cafe. If you are driving down Union Street it is a blink and you will miss it kind of place. Nothing overly special but it is a mid week mid morning yummy mummy coffee gem.
Great spot for breakfast/brunch. Been numerous times and it's always great. Service is friendly, coffee is good, food is delicious (on great looking plates!) with a cozy, chilled atmosphere. The pumpkin four ways with poached egg is my go-to dish and the jerk chips are some of best chips around! Crave them all the time. Highly recommended!
Finally made it to Gardiner and Field after wanting to come here for ages to try their pumpkin dish. Ironically I didn't end up ordering it. Instead, I went with a savoury muffin and a small bowl of granola. The muffin had generous bits of veggies throughout and was extremely light and fluffy. I loved how it wasn't heavy and cakey like a lot of muffins tend to be. It was a very healthy tasting muffin, but I don't mean that in a negative way at all.
The granola was delicious. Very crunchy and sweetened just enough so that it satisfied my sweet tooth without giving me a sugar overdose. I just wish it came with more yoghurt than the light smear on the bottom and sides of the bowl.
Other dishes on the table were the Nourish Bowl ($17) + Chicken ($5) and a lamb salad which I don't remember the exact details of. I had major food envy when the Nourish Bowl arrived at the table, and I'm happy to report that it delivered equally on taste. The lamb salad turned out to be a hot dish, which was unexpected. It was also unexpectedly spicy. It was well-received and was demolished in no time.
Overall a fantastic meal, and I look forward to returning.
I quite like Gardiner and Field. Service is good, food and coffee is good, price is fine, and they have muffins and other yummy treats to take away. We have been here a few times and quite like sitting at the large table at the back. The porridge is a favourite of mine. A solid 3.5 rating from me :)
Perfect coffee. Gronola was delicious, so sweet and homemade! Came with loads of fruit and yummy yogurt. My girlfriend had the scrambled egg and feta/avo smash. And it was also amazing. Would definitely recommend this place, the best I have had in the area!
Had the smashed avo it was good just seemed to be lacking a little bit of flavor. Service was great and friendly. Menu had a very big range of different types of meals. Will be back to try some of the other dishes!
My breakfast was lovely, juices & coffee was fresh & fast, however, one of the waitresses was quite rude, which was a shame. Despite that, 4/5 👍🏻.
Delicious pumpkin four ways dish at a sweet little corner cafe on a leafy green street with lovely guys behind the counter ☺️
Small but Relaxing place. came down for brunch, pulled beef burger and chip were so tasty so as coffee. Still remember the flavour after got home.
Love this cute cafe! Every ingredient of Nourish Bowl was very fresh and well seasoned. It looked small in amount, but I was very satisfied after finishing.
Pulled Beef burger was juicy. I am not a chips person, but I really enjoyed the Jerk chips! Their spices were tasty, and chips were super crispy on the outside.
Cappuccino had perfect foam and tasted great.
Service was very friendly and efficient. Will go back soon:)
Gardiner and Field is a an absolute caricature of the Eastern Suburbs. It set on a wide leafy street, across the road from a tennis court with customers who are all very well made up and attractive (or surgically assisted to be so). The staff are also very well presented and perfectly friendly, without oozing personality (as you can tell I'm much more comfortable with the grungyness of the northern and western suburbs).Food is top notch and very on trend. You will get everything you expect from this place and nothing more.
Perfect little hidden cafe just a short walk from Armadale Station. Coffee was great, poached eggs and salmon were fresh and almond milk chia pudding was out of this world!
A wonderful little cafe found on the inner streets of Armadale. At 9am on Christmas eve there were no issues getting a table for 2 people. Given that it is a little hidden, it tends to be more so the locals that visit the cafe. In saying that, there is no shortage of customers. The menu is quite unique with multiple exciting options. As it was Christmas eve and we were preparing for a food filled day the next day, we opted for a lighter menu choice. Between the two of us we ordered the morning paleo salad and poached eggs on toast with mushrooms, spinach and avocado.
Another one of my fave locals with great coffee and food. Love love their breakfast salad with haloumi bacon and greens! Will definitely be back!
Lovely cafe tucked away in a residential street. Breakfast was beautiful!! Loved the smashed pumpkin with feta, poached eggs were done perfectly and the coffee was delish. Well done! :)
Reading about cafes, you wonder if it is best to try it out so I did and met my friend who lives close by and if I tell my friend to meet me somewhere so I can pick him up, I say Gardiner and Field
Well last week i said lets try it and glad I did and my friend enjoyed the meal too
will be returning definitely
great local cafe not on the main street is what I like about G & F and local friendly service...
This cafe is amazing! Everything on the menu sounds irresistible. Great food, good price & friendly staff. The biggest problem is deciding what to order!! I will definitely be back!
This cafe has something calm about it may be the lighting or the homely cozy set up, white walls with minimum art. Certainly not the food or coffee coz I thought it was pretty average with more salad leaves on my plate than the actual brekkie itself. Staff were okay.
Everything is just bloody magnificent
Decent food and reasonable prices considering the location. The staff are very polite and it is easy to find free parking nearby. The ambience is very homely. The cafe is brightly lit and it is usually easy to have a conversation without having to shout.
Gardiner and Field, Armadale. Corn fritters, smashed avo, spicy pumpkin,
-----21 Mar, 2015-----
Only been here for coffee and today finally made it in for breakfast. Amazing food and great service. Managed to get us a table for 5 in no time at all. We ALL left VERY SATISFIED AND FULL
One of Armadale’s newest additions is Gardiner and Field. Gorgeous simple fit out, modest breakfast and lunch menu with a few interesting additions like the quinoa and pumpkin fritters with hummus on flatbread ($16), or the baked strawberry and raspberry tortillas ($14). What stood out for us here though, was the coffee. Flavoursome, not too strong and consistent, thus a welcome addition to Melbourne’s coffee club. In addition, find home made jams, honey and condiments for sale, as well as fresh eggs and sourdough bread from Woodfrog Bakery .
So lucky to have this cafe around the corner from my house.. Delicious and well priced !
Baked Rhubarb and Strawberries Rolled in French Toast Tortillas with Organe, Mint and a Sprinkle of Granola. Great food, awesome coffee & a really good vibe. Very quick service. Fantastic prices.
A Quinoa, Pumpkin, Cauliflower, Asparagus, Capsicum and Feta Salad. Delicious, substantial and healthy :)
Great lunch menu. Lovely quiet area with ambience and great coffee. Will go back!!
Love it. Absolutely love this place! Amazing coffee- best i've had in the area, really friendly staff and overall great atmosphere in the cosy cafe. Definitely recommend!
Great Coffee. Stopped by this bustling friendly cafe this morning on way to work for quick coffee - which was perfect way to start the day, and couldn't resist one of the scrambled egg breakfast rolls - efficient and cheery service.... would highly recommend..
Just the way i like it !!. Love the coffee, nothing like a strong hot Latte to start the day. The menu is great & as I'm a frequent visitor it's terrific that it changes from time to time. I travel all over the world for work for around 3 months of the year so I have eaten Many breakfasts & lunches abroad - this is great food, good prices with terrific quality. I've eaten through the menu many times - how embarrasing - I've never had anyone with me that hasn't enjoyed it & they go back for more. Do yourself a favour, try it !!
Despite all the parasitic Armadale mothers filling up their days with gossip about their spoilt kids over a latte in ridiculous Pru and Tru accents, this place is great. excellent coffee, great service and the corn fritters were delish!
Love this place. The corn fritters with poached eggs were delish, so was the coffee. One titchy suggestion - the egg and asparagus with Parmesan deserved toast to complete the dish.
Turn the music down too loud could not hear the person beside me.
Awesome coffee. Nice, creamy and smooth blend. Highly recommend. I often get a takeaway as I drive past as it is easy to park in union street.
Great neighbourhood fav. Discovered Gardiner & Field a few weeks ago and it has become a firm favourite. Tucked away in the back streets of Armadale but a short walk from High Street it's well worth hunting down. With a great vibe this cute place had me at hello! Fantastic coffee and happily also great food to back it up! Everything i've tried has been great, the breakfasts are a stand out but for me it's hard to resist the steak sandwich which has my vote for the best in Melbourne! Staff are great, music selection is top notch and do yourself a favour and grab a melting moment on your way out! Glad to have such a great place within walking distance of home - but far away enough to walk off those hard to resist melting moments! :)
Cosy and warm away from the masses of a main road sits this neat haven. We decided to check out this place in the midst of a leafy street in Armadale for a late lunch. Great, friendly and non pretentious staff were happy to advise and guide us through the menu. The tuna salad was FRESH perfectly cooked tuna sitting on a fantastic selection of Asian greens with a refreshing dressing. The coffee was rich and robust. I will happily return to sample other menu offerings that I had to pass up on this visit. A great change from the uber cool cafes that swamp the marketplace these days!
Not only is the coffee 10/10 but you go back again and again for the conversation and homely feeling. I even come down with my kelpie pup and she has become a local fave!
Great coffee, delicious food and a real comfy and cozy feel. Could've easily hung out all morning.
Loved it. Beautiful coffee & the bircher was divine!
Great little corner cafe. Staff were attentive and food was ok. Nice atmosphere
What a place! Cool atmosphere amazing food. And they get the coffee right just the way you like it.
Great food, service and friendly staff. Will go back.
Best coffee in Melbourne, had fabulous fruit toast with Sarah. Sarah ate a scrumptious brekkie bagel.
Top place to start the day. Ness
Customer service is great! I live locally and they do the best coffee around. Where Armadale is seriously lacking any fun from all the pretentious crap gardiner and field make up for it. The guys are lovely and have gone out of their way to provide me good service. Haters gonna hate. You try working in hospitality. It's hard work!
Saturday Brunch. Our son and his partner took us to have brunch at your cafe this weekend on a beautiful sunny day and we had a lovely meal together. I chose the chicken sandwich and he chose the corned beef bagel with chips, the chips were very crunchy and amazing. Lovely coffee but only cup size available, mug size would be a great option as you know we Melbournians LOVE LOVE LOVE our coffee. Staff were very friendly and service was fast. We will come again
Perfect every time. What a lovely café Gardiner and field is! I’m always greeted with a smile, my soy latte is always faultless, I love the menu and the general vibe of the place keeps me coming back. It’s a beautiful space to sit and enjoy the gorgeous décor, have a laugh with the staff and tuck into one of the mind blowing muffins! So good - I'm blessed to have it as my local.
I have never had a bad experience here. The food is mostly yummy, excellent coffee and the staff are all so young, bright and friendly. The cafe itself is totally gorgeous - sweet artworks and fresh flowers complement the light-filled space.
Had a very enjoyable piccolo at this classy cornershop cafe today. Will certainly return! Well done Gardiner and Field, keep up the great coffee.
Lovely. We went there for lunch and I ordered pulled pork... it was yummy but a tiny bit small in portion The breakfast wrap was also very nice, but the brownie was average. Overall, great food. I was pleasantly surprised how reasonable the price of the food are.
Service was great and staff were super friendly and attentive. It was lovely weather so we sat outside. I don't think I would want to sit inside though cos it gets fairly noisy. Thumbs up for me.

First time and a must go back. Love the menu, atmosphere, desserts and friendly staff....a must to go around Armadale!!
Went there today for brunch. Amazing food & coffee. The homemade sweets are to die for!! Definitely will be back!
I just had the Spiced Lamb Burger: a total winner! It delivered what it promised. Beatiful flavour, beautiful dish. Nice, happy, friendly staff willing to give you a great time.
RE:Needs improvement - NOT. Hi Lucas....Are you sure you are a local!!? "Armadale starved for brunch locations" you say..." Coin Laundry, 8 Days, Petite Prince, Woodstock, Poor Kids (Ok Malvern but great Axil coffee), Grapeseed if you have a family, Bouchon, the cafes near Toorak Station aren't too shabby (Armadale)...Other than Windsor, Fitzroy or the City, you'd be hard pressed to find a suburb with so many decent brunch spots....As for Gardiner and Field, they use Mailing Road coffee which is very smooth, the baristas look very "Coin Laundry prep" which is a nice change from the tatts and Ned Kelly beards, and the place was filled with females that obviously don't seem to mind so that can't be a bad thing...So grab a coffee and walk your dog at the amazing park next door Lucas and smile mate...You live in a great suburb, number 3 in Melbourne according to a recent survey, in the Most Liveable City in the World...
Good coffee, good service, eggs are free range and broadbean mash was great. Only downside is its cash only at the moment and it's very noisy, I'm sure they will be able to fix this. Great for the second day open.
Excellent cafe in the middle of Armadale. Service is excellent with COVID protocols in place and checked. The coffee is A1. We had the porridge and chilli eggs for breakfast - both highly recommended. Licensed and more substantial offerings for lunch etc. Definitely worth a visit.
Found 8 days cafe with my partner while trying to look for a nice eatery to enjoy breakfast. Initially was served by a young waiter and was then taken over by a waiter named Jordan. Jordan was an amazing waiter whom ensured everything was ordered correctly and to our liking, it was the first time in a while my partner and I felt like we actually mattered as a customers. Our food did take about 45 minutes to come out, thankfully we had a delicious juice to help us wait but overall it was a nice experience, the cafe has an awesome atmosphere and at best the food was nice as well.
I enjoyed the food and atmosphere, not very busy on a Saturday afternoon and good service and excellent food.
Good service, coffee. Plating of food is fabulous.
Great experience here for an unplanned Sunday brunch. Lovely venue and location. Excellent, friendly and efficient service that made you feel like a guest rather than just a customer. Considering the delicious food, creatively constructed and brilliantly presented it's very reasonably priced. No hesitation recommending this cafe and we look forward to visiting again soon. Coffee and smoothies were very good. Brunch platter did it for me with a great selection of tasty items, my wife thoroughly enjoyed the impressive Pea & Halloumi fritters. Well done to the team.
Best coffee in Melbourne. Great vibe and amazing food & drink. I'll definitely come back.
Unfortunately, I didn’t love this place. I know times are hard with staff etc but our waiter only asked what I’d like to drink and not my partner… which was embarrassing for everyone!! I wanted fritters but they were not on the menu we were given. As I left I saw an additional menu that we were not given that did have them. I was very annoyed! My meal was the salmon salad and it was ok. The rice was all clumped together like it was overcooked but luckily was a small portion of the meal. 4 stars is being generous here, to be honest.
