Review Yim Yam - Ascot Vale

Martin Thomas
Yim Yam is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. I just love Lao food with its delicate and exotic flavors and Yim Yam is one of the few restaurants in Melbourne where you can find it. They also have Thai food. The service is good, the atmosphere is great and the prices are reasonable. I thoroughly recommend Yim Yam.

Family is a regular here and their Naan rolls are very nice if you can get in early enough before they're sold out. Food is consistently good. Herbivore friendly.
Ruby N
Tofu roti rolls are great. But the deliberate substitution of coconut rice with steamed rice occurs repeatedly when getting take away/delivery. Also have had reason to question cleanliness practices.

A catch up with old friends tonight. We loved it here. Hard to fault the surrounds. It’s an impeccably fitted out restaurant with numerous lovely spots to prop. We had several entrees and mains. It’s rustic Thai/Laos fare but it’s mighty good food. We started with duck crepes from the specials board. They were surprisingly large crepes with really good flavour. There was plenty of duck with nice salad and a lovely sauce. Hard to ask for more. Next were the rice paper rolls. They were large and unusually loose, but delicious. Lovely flavour. The chicken satay sticks were large with a beautiful sauce that was thankfully not too sweet. Next, the yum yim yam with prawn was good. The filleted rockling piece with green curry was even better. This was lovely fish that was just lightly battered with the chili spot on. The No 50 salad - toasted rice and coconut salad - as recommended by Matt Preston was also good. On the slightly negative side, the wine glasses were too small and made of rather thick glass. They were weird. Service was overall a bit cool and detached for my liking. Back to the pluses though. The food was very good. The cost was modest, aided by the low amount charged for corkage. At $30 a head for a large meal, this is a terrific restaurant.

Not only was the food delicious but this was the first time we have ordered take away (from anywhere) to have it delivered in biodegradable packaging NO plastic! Well done!!

Tasty yummy thai food. Not your boring 'taste the same' thai like most restuarants. I dont get why people review about the delivery service been slow for restaurants. Get of your arse and pick it up yourself.
Brett Cooper
Really tasty food. Ordered from here twice now and both times the food has been of the highest quality. Tom yum soup, red duck curry, tofu and chilli jam stir fry are off the charts. The papaya salad is on point with a nice kick to it and the fried rice is the perfect side kick. Fast friendly service that is the best Thai food in the area.

We placed an order for delivery today which was supposed to be 35 minutes. Over 1 hour 15 with no response, I called the shop only to receive terrible attitude from the girl on the other end telling me I’d got my own address wrong. We used to order regularly from Yim Yam. Had some issues and tried this time only to be disappointed again. We will not order again after this experience!

WOW.... Definitely worthy of 5++++ (out of 5) stars! The food was full of flavour. Big, Excellent serving sizes. Stylish packaging. Will be back for more soon!
Ollie
Thai with a bit of a twist. A few offerings beyond your usual Thai dishes such as green curry and Pad Thai. Beautiful fresh food that is very cheap.
Rachael
Really delicious food- very reasonable prices. The duck curry was very varied with lychees and different vegetables - well seasoned and delicious with coconut rice. Service took about 25 minutes contrary to the other reviews. Pad Thai was picture perfect with flavour and consistency.

I love yim yam , the food is some of my favourite Thai food in the area , however the service was awful . My friends and I were one of two parties in the restaurant, it took over 45 minutes for our order to be taken and another 40 minutes for the food to come out . My friend and I both ordered pad thai and mine come out but my friends didn’t for another 20 minutes . I’ve found just in the past month that service has not been great , hopefully it improves as I love the food

Party of four on a Saturday night. Only 2 other tables seated . Order 5 dishes and it took almost an hour to receive all 5 dishes. Delivery orders were going out the door, however we had to wait every 10mins for one dish to come out. As we ordered dishes to share, we just ate each dish as it come out instead of waiting for all dishes to be serve. Waiters were impossible to get the attention off as they are always in the back, hiding before a wall. Exactly what the other reviewer said, you'd get better service if you order delivery. Food were decent, however more of the pricey side.

You'll get better service uber eating than dining in here. we waited an hour for our food to come out whilst 11 uber drivers picked up orders. the restaurant had a total of 5 people in it including us. i was really disappointed (thats putting it lightly) and im never coming back.
Bernardo Jacobi
Good food but slightly overrated. Pad Thai was good though I was surprised I could only have it with chicken or vegetables, beef salad was too spicy and I could feel the texture of the spices - i though this would be more smooth instead, highlight of the night was the seafood curry served in a fresh coconut - smooth delicate flavours though better enjoyed with jasmine rice or roti bread. Overall our experience was good but I wasn't impressed.

OMG!! This place is a gem and now is my favourite go to Thai restaurant, friendly service and food was so goooooood 😍👍🏻 I always go pass this place but never had a chance to try, eventually I saw their promotion on zomato gold. We decided to give it a try and ordered chicken padthai and chinese broccoli with crispy pork, all so tasty! Probably one of the best pad thai in Melb
Eatenbymae
Soooooooo good! Deep fried snapper was yummy with a sweet sticky sauce. Got a creamy seafood curry in coconut for free with zomato gold. The curry was well cooked and balanced in flavour. Lovely friendly service was a bonus too!

Amazing Thai food. My new go to whenever we're craving some Thai food. Had their Calamari stir fry with egg which was so so good, just the thought of it makes me want to go back. Also had red duck curry with coconut rice which was amazing as well. Very friendly service which is a plus.

Thai food always packs a punch with fresh herbs and strong flavours. Yim Yam lives up to the standard with fragrant dishes and great service. I came here with Mum and we opted for the green curry, chicken salad, pad thai and tom yum soup. All were delicious and although we were bursting at the seams, we couldn't stop eating. Great local gem!

A very comfy fine dining Thai Laos restaurant. Great food variety and great service. Good for vegetarian too. Ordered wok and Thai green tea curries both vegetarian. Good spicy and sweet taste.

This Thai place is next level cuisine. Wow the flavour. The basic pad Thai, massaman lamb curry with coconut rice absolutely slaps. HARD. This is ‘last meal’ worthy. My mouth is already ready for the next visit. Would recommend.
If you are Asian be careful of the caucasian customers coming up asking if you work there — has happened twice to myself and friends! 🥴
Sally
Came here with a big group of friends. Friendly staff. Very yummy food- combination of curries, noodle dishes and rice. Particularly liked the green curry. Will come again!

would not recommend for people with a nut allergy!! language barrier and cross contamination poses a serious risk.
however, if nuts are all good with you, i would highly recommend!!!! great pad thai and noodles in general, never disappointed with the quality of the food.
not likely to come back because of nut allergy but otherwise generally happy :)

We came here from Mentone, which is an hr away.
BEST THAI EVER! The flavours were authentic and balanced. Really good amount of heat. Some original dishes which are more authentic Thai cuisine.
We’ll make the drive here again!
The only downside is they don’t have a alcoholic drinks menu. But just BYO and it’s all good!

Thanks for a great dinner ☺️

Best Thai restaurant on the planet! The flavours are sensational. Every dish was spot on. Quick service. Highly recommended. I wish they could consider opening another location on Keilor rd.

Wish I lived closer to Yim Yam, one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to! A wide selection of meals too- we tried some Laos cuisine and it was delicious! Comfortable sitting too. Only wished customer service was a little bit more attentive as we had to walk to the counter at the back to ask for more water >< their coconut rice serve is also massive and great value
C.
We visited the place because of all the good reviews. Maybe it’s just the dishes that we ordered? Everything was way too sweet and overpriced for its portion. We don’t normally waste food but one of the dishes was left almost untouched :(
Danilel
Nice and transitional Thai restaurant in Melbourne.Spicy food is amazing. Tom yum and green curry is my favorite. Don't miss this two things here.
Chris Hornby
Great little local spot. Excellent value. Wasn’t a fan of the pad thai (too sweet); but the chicken and cashew and beef satay dishes were excellent. Would come back.
Ebonylaurenking
I probably eat here more than anywhere else! Lots of tasty options, consistently delicious, good prices. It's a lovely place to eat - my boyfriend and I love going there for dinner. Staff are friendly, and if you order take away regularly they remember your name when you give your number. Love it!
Stephanie Lee
By far the best stirfry we've had in a long time. The chicken was the most mouthwatering and tender meat ever experienced. The red curry duck was also insane. The duck also the tenderist Ive had amongst highly rated thai restaurants. Only downfall was that the red curry was a little too sweet and could have had slightly more kick
KnowingMelbourne
I love Yim yam. Always good service and the food is delicious. My absolute favourites are the larb Gai and the satay roti rolls - both chicken and the tofu are amazing! You'll keep coming back for it I promise. The curries are also super tasty, you can't go wrong 😋

Have been keen to try Yim Yam for a while and I wanted to also explore some Laotian options over the well know Thai dishes and mix match between vego and meat offerings. Here's my findings:
Starter: Vegetarian Spring Rolls with homemade plum sauce. Crispy, nice sweet sauce but very bland filling comprising of carrots and cabbage. Again I need to stress just because it's vegetarian it doesn't mean those who choose this expect mediocre. Why not add some sautéed mushrooms for added flavour?
Entree: Thai Won Ton Soup. I have had many won ton soups in my lifetime but never one like this. Amazing Won Tons, beautiful crisp veggies in a rich tasty broth, full of garlic but seriously a must try dish.
Main 1: Lao Beef Curry. Nice eggplant flavour, spicy with lemongrass and Mint, not a lot of beef & not as runny as I would have liked to really soak into the steamed rice.
Main 2: Toasted Rice & Coconut Salad. Another Laotian offering which we had with Tofu, amazing texture from the toasted rice and Limey and Sweet dressing, a must try dish and this is what I expect a good restaurant to deliver on when it comes to vegetarian offerings, that is it needs to be as good as the meat offerings. I was disappointed with the kitchen's timing of the meals. When the Spring Roll starter was served, one of the soups also came out even though we specified when ordering that we did not want it served at the same time. The second soup was then served 5 minutes later. Also the mains were not served at the same time which meant the contrast between the two dishes could not be enjoyed.
UPDATE: ordered take away Won Ton Soup tonight and very disappointed, no carrots, no coriander and very little broth compared to the one I enjoyed when dining in. Also it was just warm even though I picked it up early. It should have been exactly the same regardless of eat in or take away.
Kiwi Living In The Big Smoke
We love our Thai food, given the reviews I did expect a little bit more. However service was good and nice little restaurant. The green chicken curry was nice, pad Thai was a pass but I've had better. I did enjoy the Tom yum soup. Overall a 3 is fair as didn't blow my socks off

Cosy little restaurant along the busy Mt Alexander Road. The menu selection is huge with all the usual favourites. I opted for the massaman curry which was delicious as first but so incredibly sweet I was unable to finish it, I needed alot of rice and roti to balance out the sweetness. The chicken roti wrap was delicious and a large portion for an entree and the green curry prawns was rich with a good spice kick. Great comfort food. The restaurant was full on a Tuesday night with takeaway orders flying out the door. Service was a bit slow and food came at various times but we left very satisfied.

We went there yesterday for the first time and Oh My God! I have a new thai fav in town. Everything was really delicious and fresh. Their customer service is amazing and they kept open just for us! Highly recommended! Must try their coconut rice and red curry yuuuuuummm!!!
Amy Ryan
Delicious Laotian and Cambodian cuisine; over one hundred options including lots of vege and vegan options; kind and thoughtful wait staff and you can request a doggy bag and savour the flavours of the southeast at work the next day. Must try the toasted coconut and sticky rice salad!
Our Foodie Finds
Subtle yet delicious. A description of a majority of the meals and their flavours that we had. Not expecting much other than that from what we had read from the fantastic reviews, Yim Yam hit the spot and delivered the goods. Traditional, flavorsome and very quick which combined with the staff, who were all over it in terms of service and politeness, made for a great meal amongst foodies. With the large blown out photographs in black and white that enveloped the walls coaxing and inviting you to be immersed in the moment, you very much felt at home especially after you took the first bite.

We ordered our usual staples for Thai, Pad Thai Prawn $16.5 (mixed it up as its usually beef) that was delectable but seemed that someone got too excited with the sugar as it was quite sweet which for some reason made you want more. The Roast duck red curry $18.90 was one of the best we've had. Nicely flavoured, crisp vegetables and most importantly - juicy duck. We finished the dish off with a Waterfall Salad $14.9 which tasted as it was described, warm and fresh with the marinated beef slices perfectly soft.

Yim Yam boasts a fantastic off street location that has ample parking on either side of the road or within the side industrial streets which is both easily accessible and also easy to locate. Not an enormous establishment but just enough to keep it busy and cosy amongst patrons with an additional banquet style setup in the back area closest to the kitchen where all the magic happens. Yim Yam will definitely be visited on a regular for great Thai food fixes. Till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!

My favourite Thai restaurant in Ascot Vale. Excellent food every time. The Chilli Jam and Cashew Stir Fry is delicious. I will continue to come back here.

Love the food, it is always a 'go to' for comfort food around the neighbourhood. The service is always quick and friendly and the food never disappoint. Some of our favourites are the toasted rice, pork sausage and coconut salad, green curry, pad thai, massaman lamb curry and many more.

Been here a couple times, their duck pancake is to die for👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 so good.will be back again for sure....................................❤️

Awesome fresh food, everything I've tried has been delicious. Toasted rice salad and vegetable green curry with coconut rice are the favourites at our house. And very well priced for the quality. Highly recommend!
Local Diner
We got takeaway, the food was cold and the meat in the Mussaman curry was minimal. The serve was extremely small for the price. Paid $1.50 for satay sauce, it was less than 1 tablespoon. Not good value for money

This is the 4th Thai place I have tried along Mt Alexander road, and it's a nice treat. It's clean, minimal decor is a relief from the almost overwhelming try-hard trinkets that litter every square inch of the walls of some other Asian restaurants. The service was steady and not pushy and no attempts at up-selling. The specials I tried was the duck pancakes as an entree which were pretty good value at approx. $11 for two solid portions, and the ingredients were very fresh and satisfying. The red duck curry was tasty and then paid Thai was ok, not the best, but we were getting pretty full by then. The fish cakes, I dunno but they all taste rubbery to me almost anywhere I go. The greatest thing is the boy, which is why it's worth going back to, but dropping by the hotel on the corner is great as is the bloke behind the bar. Will be back.
Izzfizz101
A good place, I like the minimalist decor not over the top, place is clean and not crowded in terms of tables . The specials were good, pad Thai was nice with prawns, service was good and attentive, the BYO is great but plan ahead or walk down to the corner pub, worth a repeat visit definitely
Finger Lickin
Great little place. Slice of Thailand. Don't worry about the decor. The food is top notch. Service is also really good. The golden leaf is a must try.
Vivian Wu
Quite a nice Thai Restaurant, with fast food delivered and friendly staff. Food tastes really good especially the pad Thai, plus reasonable price is another highlight, hopefully they can more branches in city though:)
Daniel May
Arrived early. Ordered rice with roast duck red curry and gang khi lek. Chicken in pandan leaves. All was generally good, the curries were flavoursome and nourishing. Decent serving of duck meat with the red duck curry and that was a standout.
Black N White
I'm not sure what everyone is on about. We had two dishes. Both super sweet even when waiter advised one of the dish was spicy in flavour. Will never return.

Don't know why this restaurant so popular! Beside the so-so okay service, the food wasn't all that good and literally had to wait for almost an hour for it to arrive. Never again!
Giovanna Isabella
This is suburban Thai gold! I'd heard many good things about Yim Yam and being a local I sadly somehow had never been. I went with a group of friends and boy oh boy we sure got served the goods. The Satay Roti Chicken rolls were great! Good flavour combo and a sufficent starter. The toasted rice and coconut salad was also a real pleasure and I would definitely recommend getting it. All in all the price is so good and you get a whole lot. It's the lovely staff whom really make it a great little joint. Side note: Just be sure to book in if you're going on a Friday or weekend night, they get pretty busy!
Lainey
A restaurant rather than the usual cafe/takeaway Thai place in the burbs. The proper tablecloths, modern decor and cloth napkins elevate the dining experience from your usual cheap takeaway, yet the prices are not too high. Certainly a touch more expensive above your usual takeaway but fits in with this level of dining.
Unfortunately, while the food was acceptable the service was not so great. Being the only diners can be a good thing, but not when the staff completely forget about you, start noisily eating their dinner while you wait for dishes to be cleared, and then take an additional 20 minutes to clear said dishes. Suspect it would have been longer if someone hadn't come in for a pickup. Even then it took an extra 5 minutes after that person left for them to come out to the front. The waitress was quite surly when taking the order too. Not impressed with the service and that's brought the mark down.
Food was acceptable. I prefer Malaysian style roti and satay sauce, so that dish was a bit too soft (roti) and sweet (sauce) for my taste. The Hokkien noodles and teriyaki chicken had too much sauce which was too sweet, but the chicken was absolutely delicious. Cooked very well with a crispy coating and went well with the sauce. My non Asian bf loved it! For my taste the noodle part was rather too sweet and had too much of the sauce but it was a good dish to eat. Perhaps just slightly too westernised.
My tom yum fried rice was quite good, haven't had tom yum in rice form before (only in soup) so it was an interesting dish to try. Definitely had the correct mix of spices and sour to be called 'tom yum'.
There were plenty of things to try on the menu which are different from the usual Thai restaurant and I would be back to try them. However I would be more inclined to get takeaway since the service was a bit off-putting.

Visited Yim Yam on a Saturday night, stumbled across it by accident but glad I did. Was after a table for 1 without a booking and they were able to accommodate me. Attentive service and the food was brilliant. Everything was fresh and the flavors were great.
Charlotte Huddle
A surprisingly nice Thai restaurant, modern and classy interior with wonderful and polite staff! Not just your run of the mill tacky Thai restaurant that's for sure! Food was great, I had the wonton soup and it was easily the best I've ever had! Even the broth was flavoured well. Spring rolls were nice and main was well flavoured, although chicken a little dry (the only fault). Would definitely recommend!
Brunch Lover
Had dinner here tonight and was surprised by how vast the menu was, it had so many lovely options that it made it hard to choose. I went with two friends and we ended up getting 4 entrees and 2 mains to share and there was HEAPS of food. All good quality, really tasty and cheap at $65. I will definitely be back 😊

■ So much range in the menu
■ Very reasonable pricing
■ Busy and bustling atmosphere
■ Great portion sizes

■ The service is not as friendly
■ Quite congested and small restaurant

One of the best Thai restaurants Ive been to! Amazing food! We started off with the Satay chicken kebabs and the sauce was so creamy and delicious! I wish I went for more but then I wouldnt have had room for the rest of the fab dishes we tried. The Green Curry and Penang Beef curry hit the spot with just the right amount of spice! When combined with the coconut rice..= amazing! Great, authentic experience. Thanks YimYam!!
Paige Coleman
Amazing Thai food!!!
Try the chicken roti roll - you will not be disappointed.
Only downside is the location; so much traffic and hard to park!
Luke And Hannah
Came here with a group of friends. We ordered a variety of dishes. Ordinary curry, ordinary salad, boring desserts. Staffs were not attentive at all. Don't think we will come back.
Nat
I have eaten here several times & the food is always lovely. This is my go to Thai place in ascot vale. Love the chicken roti rolls. Only negative is the wait times for delivery as sometimes it can be 1hr+.
Michael
I've found that take away Thai food in Melbourne is generally pretty bloody average. This place however has been awesome for years. It's a little bit pricier, but you're guaranteed to get the best take away Thai north of the city. Recommend the curries and chilli lime basil stir fry.
Jennifer Renee
The best Thai I've had outside Korat. Every dish has the perfect blend of spices and traditional vegetables.

If you want take away allow 20 min. A bit slow, but worth the wait!
Foodie Guy
Had a great night with my family, great service and the food is fantastic definitely will come back again. All of the food was great and finished them all.
Charlotte Lamont
Always good food here! Good takeaway, great service - one of the better Thai restaurants in the area! Get the curry puffs - they're great!
Melissa
The best fried rice with prawns in Melbourne! Never disappoints!! Take away is quick and easy and the staff are always friendly. Fantastic local spot
Alex
We waited almost 2 hours for take away when we ordered at 530pm. This has happened the last 3 times. Won't be ordering food from here again. Disappointing.
James
Delicious Thai food and very easy take away process. Ordered the chicken roti wraps and veggie-tofu curry with extra roti and rice. All up $27 with a discount. Recommend if you are short on time for a tasty Thai meal!
Alanf
My Regular Haunt. I've dined here 20+ times and keep going back for the great quality food. An extensive menu where all dishes are scrumptious and large servings at affordable prices. BYO all alcohol keeps costs down too.
Trine Sakariassen
I've been a regular customer for years, but tonight was the last straw, never again. As expected, took over an hour to deliver (tho they did say 50 minutes) but food was cold. The waterfall beef salad was cold, tough and was just beef and a few leaves of iceberg lettuce! Cold spring rolls. Seafood curry served in a coconut was just... Weird and grainy. If you're going to have a delivery get more drivers so you do justice to your food.
Barry
Food was fast, service was good but I was very ill afterwords :(
Chef John Smith
...ordered the typical Thai dish, Satay Vegetable & Tofu Stir fry $12.90 and Bread Roti Bread $3.50. Clearly this was the best $16.40 I have spent on Thai food in Melbourne/ ever. I can see why Matt Preston gave it a good review in the Age in 2006 and so many more Yim Yam Restaurants have opened up since then in the inner-north suburbs of Melbourne.
Piecey Num Nums
...ordered their takeaway before and been impressed with the food so was looking forward to dining in and I was not disappointed. The food was delicious and the staff attentive and friendly. I was disappointed though to find out that they are BYO only. I didn't realise this and would have liked to enjoy a nice crisp glass of white wine with my meal!
Sweet And Sour Fork
The house made sausage was pungent with spices and lemongrass, and the chewy strips of pork sported a sweet marinade with a hint of cumin in its smokiness. I knew I should’ve been saving room for dishes to come, but we cleared this plate in no time.
Jefann
Consistently good. Have eaten here several times and it has been consistently good. Had a small problem one night and it rectified immediately and more importantly without fuss or hesitation.
Jake Spano
Fantastic!. Each and every time I have dined at YimYam (I've been there enough to fill 2.5 of their loyalty cards), without fail the food is exceptional, the service is great and the price is right.
I'd absolutely reccomend the Satay Roti Rolls for starters, their coconut rice is fantastic and Pad Thai is one of the best I've had.
It's always a pleasure to dine there.
Cameron.anne.l
3 sisters. Went to Yim Yam Sunday night for catch-up dinner with two sisters. Had lovely meal- curry puffs, marinated chicken crispy rice salad and Penang Curry. Heaps of food and everything fresh and delicious.
Christineannecollins
Great service food & price. One of our favourite family restaurant's to eat at. The young staff are genuinely friendly & helpful. The food is consistently good & served up quickly. All at an affordable price..Love it!

Thai Like. It has been a long time between drinks re thai dinning for us - did my usual urbanspoon research and found this place was on the money so we made a booking for a Friday night (Please make sure you book - all the tables had reserved on them so I would hate for you to be turned away).
To start with, the service was unreal - seriously so friendly and nothing was too much trouble - rare to find this at the places we have been lately - This kind of service has a real impact on the enjoyment of the meal.
We ordered the top dishes as per the research - chicken satay, red duck curry, massaman curry, crunchy rice salad, sticky rice and some roti bread. All the dishes came out super quick and well presented. They were all winners and we wiped each dish clean. We arrived just before the dinner rush and it was pleasant noise wise until the place started to pack out - then it was quite noisy indeed, so I suggest an early booking if you like to have some convo with your dining partner. They have a loyalty card which is a nice touch and they take EFTPOS. In every way this place exceeded my expectations and I look forward to many return visits.
Blue Stockings
We order from here regularly, the food is great and service is lovely. Only once have we ever had a problem with the order, when one of our entrees was left out. This was remedied upon our next return however, with genuine apologies. The pad Thai prawn is amazing!
Hollytd
On this side of town, it's a decent Thai/Lao restaurant. Flavours are good although some dishes lacked the punch & freshness that's characteristic of Thai. Go for the red duck curry, Thai sausage tasting plate, and toasted rice & coconut salad. Give the Lao Forest (bamboo salad) and Yum Yim Yam Prawns a miss. Whilst interesting, it wouldn't be something I'd order again. Service is a bit slow and not very attentive.
Jenny May
Delicious food and very reasonably priced. Service is pleasant but once they've served you dinner they are not interested in coming serving you any further, no water, no drinks, nothing. Happened on a few occasions. The food though cannot be faulted and it's delicious.
Dottore Vince
Pleasantly surprised by this place. A nice twist on the duck curry which included fresh fruit. Will be back to work through the interesting menu.
MrsBombastic
Deliciously excellent. Had .... Deliciously excellent.
Had the tofu roti as an entree, seemed simple and unlike any entree I had ever been served (looked like a souvlaki) but was easily the best entree I have ever eaten. Love love love. The satay tofu and vegetables was so delicious. Can't wait to go back here!
Nigel Corboy
Wow! This is some of the tastiest Thai food I've had in a long time. We were impressed with all the dishes we had tonight, especially the Toasted Rice salad. Prices are very reasonable as well. I will definitely be back to try more.
Jamie Terry
Book now!. You won't get bad meal here. The prices are great and the coziness of the restaurant just adds to the charm. The plates don't match and is reminiscent of grans old dinner setting which is awesome. If youre In a big group it's likely your food won't come out at the same time, but that's soon forgiven when you taste the food. The Yim Yam experience is one you will want to repeat over and over again!
David Radford
Yum yum. Very good place for quick bite not expensive service was good will be back
Russell
Great Value. Yim Yam deserves its high rating for not only excellent standard menu dishes but special dishes sometimes sponsored by visiting chefs. Can't wait to go back.
Nadine Lauren Val
My last visit was on valentines day where my partner and I had a nice time where we left it to the last minute but enjoyed talking to the staff after delivering great portions of well presented dishes . I needed a glass of milk due to the heat factor of my dish the waiter was quick to respond and dinner was on a budget as we had just bought our new car and new home and left it to the last minute without resorting to a burger joint . Good food & good company and we thanked and tipped the staff .
Nelly
Great food, chicken breast used not thigh in entree and Mains.
Deano
Yum Yim Yam! Great food! Nothing else to really say.
EJK
Excellent!! Returned for the 3rd time and was impressed yet again. Pork strips, chicken satay roti rolls, duck salad, prawn curry were all sensational!! Service was a little slow but worth enduring for the taste!
MADD Traveller
Waste of time. This restaurant had some good reviews on line and so as a family we tried it... And we won't be returning. All the food spent way to long in the microwave and some was Inedible because of it. With lots of good Thai restaurants around we won't waste our time on this one again
Jeff Jazzman
Nothing to whinge about. Food was fresh and flavoursome
MellowFever
Good in the past perhaps?. Came highly recommended but I have no idea why. Got takeaway and the Tom yum soup was not authentic in any way, just a stale Tom yum paste with water and heaps of fish sauce. So so salty. Yuck. Couldn't even eat the red curry and everything else was very stale tasting. Curry puffs, satay chicken entrees really average. Pad Thai passable. To top it off it was very expensive. You are better off going to Singha Thai on puckle street. Not everything there is very authentic either, but at least it's tasty.

Got a takeaway from Yim Yam last night after hearing a lot of recommendations, and I wasn't disappointed. The food was absolutely fantastic - the best Thai I've eaten in years. Everything tasted really fresh and authentic. Wonderful. My new favourite takeaway!

Wow! Loved it! Service was great and fast too! The food was superb! Crunchy rice and coconut salad is to die for! 3 entrees, 9 mains, 3 desserts, drinks and coffees all for $200. Will be back!

Quality Thai. First visit to Ascot Vale restaurant following several meals at Yim Yam in Yarraville and Moonee Ponds. The new venue did not disappoint with regard to ambience, food quality and price. The restaurant is larger than the other two mentioned and the food as good. The Yim Yam stir fries have a smoky flavour that apart from being delicious is hard to find in the many Thai eateries I have dined in. The curries are also very good. Didn't think much of the marinated chicken but I someone else made that choice. Overall very enjoyable and at $25 per head with food left on the table, very good value.

Decent thai food in ascot vale. Best thai place in Moonee Ponds area, love love the food and great service, they look after their locals and its been consistently good for years. I will come back again and again.
Best dish is the crunchy, sticky sweet honey chicken stirfry.

Cosy with a kick. After reading the reviews of the other locations, I eagerly awaited the opening of the Yim Yam in my neck of the woods on Mt Rd...and I wasn't disappointed! Both dine in and take away provide a lovely culinary experience. The restaurant is small, and the service is friendly and helpful.

The absolute highlight of the menu has got to be the chili and basil calamari, which is just to die for. The squid just melts in your mouth and is incredibly flavourful. I've also tried the pad thai, soft shell crab salad, and the golden prawn stirfry. The latter was the best of those. Pad thai was sub par, in my opinion.

Definitely worth giving this place a try. Really lovely, fresh and authentic food. Yum, Yim Yam!

Value and good. Closer to authentic than many south east Asian restaurants around Melbourne. Well priced.

Great for takeaway. Food is not oily but fresh and flavoursome. Would say some days the food is better than others - is there certain cooks for certain days?? Pad Thai yum, Waterfall Beef Salad yum but if not into chilli ask for extra extra mild - mild is still hot, crispy prawn stir fry yum...

Good food but feeling dudded on the serves. I have eaten at Yim Yam a few times and have always enjoyed the meal. We ate there a few nights ago and, as usual, the food was pretty good. I felt this time, though, we were short changed on the serves. For an appetizer we ordered the Thai dim sims. From the menu description, I thought we were getting a selection of dim sims, 6 pieces in all. What we received was 5 of the same kind (which, by the way, were quite tasty). I had a look at the menu on my way out and would concede that perhaps you do only get one type or perhaps the chef reserves the right to serve what they have have on hand, but 5 is not 6 and no explanation was provided. For one of our mains we had the special crispy pork ($17; special, not on main menu). Again, very tasty but not much pork and not very crispy either. There is another Thai restaurant just around the corner which we haven't been to in a while so I think we will give Yim Yam a break for a while.

I have mixed feelings of this restaurant. Generally i found the food full of flavour. I loved the roast duck curry - absolutely unique and very tasty. But the prawn pad thai was a bit of a hit and miss. The waterfall beef salad was a great dish, But I think it could have done with more lettuce though, it would have been a but more balanced. Entrees were ok - chicken skewers were fine and the crispy chicken looked better than what it tasted - it wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best either. The staff was nice, but could have been more proactive. However, it is decent food for a good price. I will try it again to explore more of their menu. Will keep you posted.

Best pad Thai I've ever had outside of Thailand!

Tom Yuk. Very average Thai food here...the Tom Yum was just a paste with some water and fish sauce. The Larb Gai was bland and lacked any real punch expected. OK if you have a McDonalds palette and like eating with plastic cutlery but if you seek food that even resembles something from Thailand, steer well clear of this place.
