Review Scoozi - Ascot Vale

This place is a GEM! Being served food that people are passionate enough about to suggest how to eat it is a privilege, It’s also a great experience! The food here is amazing and so is the service. Thank you!

Fantastic authentic Italian food. Delicious wine. Great staff and family vibe. 6 stars if I could.

Very tasty and authentic Italian food. Delicious seafood risotto (prawns and squid). Love the chewy pizza crust with the blisters from the hot woodfired oven. A must try
Santo Acciarito
I ordered a risotto with chicken and mushroom as a main. The onions were not cooked and still hard. The chicken was dry and there was gristle in the chicken. The dish was tasteless. When asked about our meals I explained exactly that to the female owner. Her explanation was I'm sorry we try and please everybody. What sort of an explanation was that. If she was genuinely concerned maybe the price of the dish may have been deleted as a measure of good faith. I will never return to this place again and I do not recommend it to anyone. Giving it a one star rating is over generous.

Such a lovely Italian restaurant! Food is great and authentic and the service was outstanding. The staff are proud of their food (as they should be!) and they made a genuine effort to ensure we were comfortable and enjoyed our dinner. Very warm and homey atmosphere. My only minor criticism is that they had pop music playing, which felt a bit out of place and didn’t match the ambience. Easily addressed with a playlist that’s more chill, or maybe even something traditional. Had dinner here with a group of 5 and they were more than happy to cater to some dietary requirements (and so nice about it too). Definitely recommend this place. Thanks for such a great dinner!

Ever since we’ve moved to Ascot Vale, Scoozi has been our go to Italian restaurant for dining in and taking away. The staff always remember us and the service is lovely. The food is authentic Neapolitan and you can tell how proud they are to share it with you. Quirky decorations and an original vibe. The free bottle of wines with our takeaway orders is so generous! Thanks Scoozi! <3

Ordered an aglio e olio pizza and pepperoni arrostitti delivery and was disappointed with the quality and presentation. Not to mention that both were cold. I would not recommend to order these products delivered. The arrostitti came with 2 small slices of bread that was not fresh. With a container that looked like slops. Ordered salami to be added to the pizza again poor quality. Once burnt twice shy definitely not a Vale or well presented meal

Accidentally placed an order for pick up thinking this was Mi Scuzi in Fitzroy. It was totally my fault but they were really nice about it. A+ customer care. Definitely plan to go now.

The food here is absolutely amazing and so is the selection of wine. The lady managing that night was warm and attentive. The staff were also wonderful. The food was delivered speedily and the atmosphere was great. This place has a great reputation and I'll be sure to have my other friends come other times

What an absolute gem of a find. Scoozi was where we chose to celebrate our daughters Engagement tonight. The ambience, service and the delicious food could not be faulted. Thank you for a great evening and the special surprise at the end. Cheers

The best, most fluffy, lightest gnocchi I've ever eaten. It's like clouds dissolving in your mouth. I'm from SA and every time we visit Melbourne, Scoozi always gets a visit. Buon Appetito

Food and staff were amazing and not over priced at all. Thank you so much for a wonderful night. Loved it
Sharon Hill
Great food, great atmosphere. Amazing desserts. And their gluten free menu is great too.

Very impressed with the food and great selection of wine Will be putting it on the top ten of the area well done guys

My fiancé and I have been going to Scoozi for over 12 months & have loved every meal. We had our engagement at Scoozi & the service & food were fantastic. Highly recommend this restaurant for its beautiful food & friendly atmosphere.
Melissa Paterson
Food was fabulous, but service was even better! Amelia was amazing, recommended perfectly and was very generous and gracious when my hubby and I had dinner there to celebrate our anniversary. Thank you Amelia, we will definitely be back
Michael Capraro
Fantastic casalinga Italian food, great service and even a glass of port from the owner after our meals!
Matt Collicoat
Scoozi is our "local". We've been going regularly for years and we love the place. The food is always fantastic and service is second to none. Feel like part of the family.
John Handerek
Lovely family owned restaurant, by far our favourite pizza !
Adam Greco
My favorite pizza place in Melbourne. Great food and staff.

1st time dining at scoozi absolute magnificent food, 1st class service and very friendly will be back for sure 10 out of 10

Fantastic authentic pizzas, probably best in Melbourne
Lisa Irato
Recommend the fennel sausage entree, pizza for main and ricotta with toffee sfinci for desert yum!

Scoozi is quite the departure from your quintessential local Italian. The pizzas coming off the pass here are nothing short of superb with the bases the real hero being lab cultivated. However, quality comes at a price, so expect to part with a fair bit of your hard earned but...quality is remembered when price is long forgotten.

Overall Scoozi comes highly recommended at around $50-60 per head for 2-3 courses.

Pizza fungi was exceptional, the special spaghetti was flavorsome and the pudding dessert to die for.
Frack
Lovely food. Recommend that roasted capsicums and grilled eggplant starters. The pizza is thin crust and delicious. Excellent service and very friendly hostess. Would come again
Milli
Best gnocchi I have eaten. It was so light and fluffy and the sauce complimented it really well. Pizza was delish, service was great and they made us feel like family. Will definitely be back.

This restaurant is a little away from the main restaurants on Union Road, Ascot Vale but even then it was booked out for a Friday night. We were warmly greeted and quickly escorted to our table.

The restaurant specialises in homemade pasta and pizza and have been competitively participating in pizza making contests around the world. It will be celebrating its 10th birthday in May and has already been booked out for the occasion. Being in the business for 10 years is a great achievement.

My partner ordered for $26.00 Gnocchi Crema which contained porchetta, field mushrooms and cream. The gnocchi was soft pillowy morsels with a generous serve of mushrooms. The only disappointment was the meal could have been hotter, it was lukewarm at best.

On the other hand, I had the housemade Spaghetti Pescatore with a bountiful amount of fresh seafood , cherry tomatoes, pesto and pine nuts for $28.00.

The prices are a tad high for the sizes of our meals and the ingredients are sourced from local and overseas (D.O.P.) ingredients.

We decided to share a deconstructed Tiramisu at $14.00 which as its name describes was not the traditionally Tiramisu but was delicate and delicious.

The restaurant had a very interesting wine menu combining both Australian and Italian wines. The Australian wines are reasonably prices and most of the Italian wines are priced between $50.00 to $65.00.

Nice place. We would come back for a special Italian meal.

I had dinner last night, First time at Scoozi, Food was Amazing.. Staff Fantastic!!
Such quality food, great little place.
I will defiantly go again.
Alessandro Calabro
Good fare on offer here. Then again some of the people work there are Sicilian so of course it will be. Treat yourself to a great meal with great accompaniments. va bene

The food can not be faulted here but they are way out with their pricing. Servings are very small. We had a take away tiramisu which was appallingly tiny and not even very nice at $14. A glass of rose $16. If I was in Noosa, maybe, but downtown Union Rd....perhaps why we were the only diners.
Sian Brownlow
Absolutely love this restaurant. Incredible, authentic pizzas, fantastic starters (especially love the Arancini and calamari!), and always lovely service.
Fielder6
It is such a shame that the food here is so over priced. The pasta was absolutely delicious, but at $25 a serving, that is the size of half a child portion, who can justify the cost?
HB
First time trying Scoozi. Had a craving for tiramisu for dessert and saw they had it on their takeaway menu. Overall tiramisu was pleasant but felt that it was over priced for the quantity. We paid $14.00 which is the same price as dine in.
Love coming here. Always get the gnocchi. It's light, fluffy and melts in the mouth. Garlic pizza is delicious. Bit on the pricier side but you get what you pay for.

If you're going here you need to grab a pizza. It tastes AMAZING!! It's interesting because these guys are pizza certified from Naples so the pizza actually doesn't come sliced.... This part is annoying. But to maintain their accreditation I respect them for not cutting it. You have to understand if you're coming here you're going to get an Italian Style pizza not some Australian adaptation of heaps of toppings and chunky base - which reading other reviews is what I feel people find negative

Service is so lovely also - we had Laura for the evening and I was very impressed that she could remember the specials; all our orders ; drinks and didn't even look at her notes or write a note.

If I had to pick negatives it was the difficulty in seeing the menu which i is think was due to the lighting where we were sitting

Price wise... Pizzas are approx 25 so a little on the higher side but it seems that everyone is heading in that direction unless you're grabbing a local take away pizza

Would I go back? definitely!

Stumbled across this gorgeous place earlier in the week. Genuinely lovely staff, a little fancier than I'd normally go for.
Had the New York style pizza and the chili cheese fries - both were amazing.

Staff were attentive and lovely without being annoying and genuinely wanted to ensure we had a lovely meal.
KnowingMelbourne
This is a great local Italian restaurant for me. They do a great pizza and pasta and the service is always great. It's a bit fancier than your average pizza place. The best meal I've had here was a pizza off their specials board, their fried base with a mortadella topping. I seriously still dream about this pizza! Delish!
Pjgirl
Great small cozy place. We had a few entree dishes to try a bit of everything. These were simple yet nice. My favourite was probably the eggplant. The arancini could use a bit more flavour as they were quite bland.

The pizzas were a great size and thickness and the wood oven style was nice. We had a few different pizzas and they're good but not the best.

A few of us had pasta which was ok. The baked gnocchi was nice but way too much cheese. The spaghetti Mariana was ok but not great. Our favourite was the burnt butter gnocchi.

A Small Italian in the heart or Ascot Vale

It was time to catch up with Ruby so I though we could pop to a nice little Italian and have some tasty Pizza over dinner.

The place had a great selection of Cocktails, which I do not picture I had the Mojito which was interesting as i couldn't find the rum, maybe because I am so used to drinking darker rums I mean it was still good. Ruby had a Bellini and as always tasty and hard to do wrong.

We only had one course, My having the Margarita as in have a thing the Meat on pizza tastes funny but it was fresh hot on a great bread and served traditionally with it not being Cut. Ruby went for the Fried Calzone and it was massive she worked her way though it and said the flavour was overall good.

The full menu looked great so will be back when I am Hungry so I can explore more of it.

Restaurant Type: Casual Dining
Jack
Very ordinary dining experience.
Calamari was as salty as sin, Pizza bases were burnt and soggy and the pasta wasn't all dente....it was uncooked!!!!!
Owner proceeded to explain to us that one of our party was just a type that they couldn't cater for (?), and excused it at that.
At $75 a head for shared entrees and very average mains take your hard earned else where.
FAIL

Saw a sign displaying 'number one pizza in Melbourne' so we thought we'd give it a go. We ordered the morten bat bug pizza and maccheroni incartucciati. 5-10 minutes later our food came out. While the service was very prompt, something just didn't seem right. While we were expecting a pizza with the morten bay bug broken up and spread through the sauce like a marinara, we got given a soggy base with tomato paste thrown on it like a kids tantrum and the bug set in a teepee like abstract on top of the pizza. The pasta dish was good however lacked size and was served in a foil bag. Won't be back

Scoozi encapsulates the Italian style of dining, urging patrons to indulge in an intimate gathering while cherishing a meal which honours classical Italian flavours and quality ingredients. If you are a pizza aficionado and you are not familiar with Scoozi, it's time to get acquainted. The restaurant boasts traditional Neapolitan style pizzas that are baked in an 800-degree wood-burning oven for around one minute.

Very disappointing service after a nice meal . We were a table of three and after telling the waitress we were ready for dessert , we were told 'just a minute ' we then waited 15 minutes while they ran around making sure the uber eats were served and whatever else was going on as it wasn't that busy. The waitress finally came to take our order but of course what two of us wanted was no longer available as they 'ran out' (lemon sorbet) . And their excuse after their apology? Oh your table wasn't in the line of sequence???? Didn't know restaurants were run like delis or I would've taken a number !!!
Theycallmemaggie
Scoozi's margherita pizza is among the best I've tried in both Melbourne and Italy. The pizza dough sported a gorgeous ratio of chewiness to airy lightness. The sweetness of the tomato base complemented the smoky char imparted by the cooking process, and the occasional encounters with the oozy mozzarella and herbaceous basil brought a balanced and simple indulgence. Delizioso.

Best pizza in Melbourne! So glad my friend recommended this place for dinner when I'd mentioned I was craving an authentic Italian pizza. Place has a homely feel and my friend has become friendly with the owner as she is a regular. Service was very good (aside from feeling like we were being pushed out once we'd finished). A bit on the pricey side but worth it! Both had a pizza each (one gluten free which was an extra $5.50) and an espresso martini...bill came to $74. Will definately be back (especially for my pizza cravings I tend to be having more often!)

By far the worst and most offensive dining experience of my life. We waited patiently for some time to have our meal orders taken, watching the waitresses walk by our table time and time again, seemingly distracted. A good half an hour passed and by this stage, my partner was becoming quite impatient. As we grabbed the attention of one of the waitresses, it was at this point that things went horribly wrong.

The waitress rudely told us that they were really busy and they would get to us when they could and walked on by rolling her eyes! It was at that point our patience ran out and we decided to leave only to be confronted by several wait staff and the owner who abruptly asked ‘what’s wrong, why are you leaving?’ We explained to the owner that we waited over half an hour to have our orders taken and that when we spoke to the waitress, she was rude and walked off in a huff. The owner’s response was what shocked us the most. She said ‘oh none of my staff are rude and what do you expect, it’s a Saturday night and you didn't have a booking’! By far the worst customer service I have come across and we will never be back.
Went here for dinner last night, after wanting to try it for ages. Food was spectacular - we had the share entree, mussels, a pasta, a pizza, two sides and two bottles of wine for just shy of $200 between two of us - which I think is incredible value for the quality of food we received. The mussels were by far the best mussels I have eaten. The pasta my partner had was divine - slow cooked ragu-type sauce full of flavour. I had the pizza and it was perfection. I can't wait to go back!

Ordered from UberEATS,
Claimed to be house made maccheroni but it was overcooked dried pasta from a packet.
Scillian doughnuts were doughy and dense in texture not very appetising.
And the deconstructed tiramisu portion was pretty good but the portion size was tiny.
Really enjoyed my night at this cute little Italian place!
Booked for 8 people just an hour before we got there (my bad as I always reduce myself at the last minute) and the table/service were impeccable!
Great friendly staff, the waitress who looked after our table had great skills and manners.
Started with few entrees and we all enjoyed the buffalo mozzarella, and calamari.
As main we ordered pizzas and pastas and either myself and my friends were absolutely amazed!
Nutella pizza was definitely outstanding as (unlikely most pizzerias) you can tell that they make a specific dough for it. Tasted amazing!
Will definitely come back soon!
Karen
AMAZING pizza. Had this take away and regret it as it didn't do the pizza justice. This type of pizza needs to be eaten in. By the time we got it home it had gone cold. We had the sausage and the prosciutto, & highly recommend both. We'll definitely be heading back

Love this place! Great service and pizza.
Josie
Big disappointment!
Such an expensive pizza place for Union Rd.
Cannot believe the sizes of the meals. Not only are the meals tiny but my eggplant dish was tasteless.

Totally do not understand the whole pretentiousness when it's a pizza joint with only two main dishes as an option and entrees that are baby servings using bread as fillers.

Not returning and cannot recommend it.

Janis Petrovski
Overpriced and underwhelmed...!!!! Yuk...!!!

What can I say about my dining experience at Scoozi.... One word - Terrible!!!!

Greeted with attitude from the waitress was just the beginning of our unpleasant experience. We ordered 2 pastas and a pizza to share. The food came out all most instantly (within 10 minutes) which normally would be great if it was nice.

The pasta serves were tiny, barely an entree size. It was cold & there was hardly any flavor, and for what we ordered we were expecting an explosion in the mouth.

The pasta fettuccine was dry and clumpy and the gnocchi was like gelatin.

As for the pizza, when served we were instructed on how to eat it as they do in Naples. Seriously? Let people eat how they want to eat. As a pizza lover, I'd say I do eat it the "traditional" way, none the less I don't need to be told how to eat.

The pizza was soggy and watery and not really that exciting.

The owner / maitre d was offended when I responded with "yeah it was ok" when she asked how everything was. Confronting me further to say "what you're not happy?". This opened dialogue where we expressed our opinions.

She then came back to argue about how she was unhappy and wanted to explain how a Napoli pizza is made and how they make them in naples.

Apparently they have never had a complaint before. Tonight's research shows quite the opposite. An expensive dinner for no reward.
I should have listened to my friends and stayed away.

Scoozi need to stop living on an award they "apparently" won in 2014 and focus on now and seriously step it up.

I think I'll stick to 400 Gradi. Food and service is impeccable and faultless. Now that's the proper Italian experience..!

Perhaps Scoozi need some lessons from 400 Gradi

I know my food and I especially know Italian food. I've travelled Italy, I've eaten amazing food and this quite frankly this is not it..!!
Rhonda
Ate here last night
Please please Don't claim to be Italian Restaurant if you can't cook pasta
Worst Italian I have ever had in Melbourne
Pasta hard/ sauce dreadful very salty
Allyoucaneat
Them the most annoying thing about this place is the constant and annoying up selling from the waiting staff (and more so from the manager)......... No I do not want garlic bread with my pizza. The pizzas themselves were on the sloppy side....
Ewan Campbell
Was walking past with my family and decided we felt like pizza. The staff were friendly and quickly organised a booster seat for my daughter. She had an amazing arancini. My wife and I shared a pizza and it was delicious- very traditional and the staff nicely explained the best way to eat it. Not cheap, but highly recommend as a treat.

Walking into the restaurant the layout and light set the seen to a great night!
Amazing food, amazing flavours and amazing service!
This is now the best wood oven pizza I've had!
Tania
Friendly service. Calamari as a starter was very delicious
We tried 3 of their pizzas (since it was known for best pizza in melbourne), first time trying wood fire pizza so it was a new experience. A little bit on the pricy side though.
I have been to this restaurant a number of times and have had nothing but amazing service and delicious food. Definitely the best pizza I have had.
Bianca Roberts
Scoozi offers traditional Neapolitan pizza and other authentic Italian dishes in a warm and inviting venue. Food is absolutely delicious, served artistically and with a smile from the lovely staff. Cannot wait to return.

Terrible service!

Our dining experience started off well - we were seated quickly upon arrival at around 8pm. The dinner service was in full swing - the restaurant appeared crowded so we sat outside.

At first, the staff were attentive. Our drinks were provided immediately and this was quickly followed by our starter. We had the $28 antipasto for two which was both generous and tasty.

From here, however, our dining experience, which began so positively, very quickly hurtled downhill.
Despite patrons still dining both inside and outside of the venue, the staff began to relax. Two members of the kitchen sat outside chatting to friends, whilst the wait staff appeared idle at the bar inside. The wait for our main dragged on well beyond half an hour and when it finally arrived, our prosciutto pizza tasted as though it had been sitting on the pass for a while, either forgotten about or not attended to by the servers who had all conspicuously decided that, even in the presence of paying customers, they could just meander around until close.

The pizza, like the antipasto carried a hefty price and was certainly not worth it. We ate the doughy, lukewarm disappointment quickly before getting up to pay and leave. As we did, however, the woman (who I assume must have been the head of front of house) sidled up to us and said, 'wow, lots of carbs tonight,' a frankly unnecessary and mildly offensive comment that was met by silence and disapproving looks from the two of us.

I'm happy to pay for a quality dining experience - but $61 for a starter and 1 large pizza, coupled with terrible service and lacklustre atmosphere (take the watermarked, paper menus that doubled as placemats, for example) has left me with a bad taste in my mouth, never again.

Great local Italian restaurant. Reasonably priced, great service and beautiful authentic Italian food. If I was in the area again I would definitely go back
Gabby
Went to scoozi for a group dinner and was pleased with our dinner. A bit pricey for what was served, but I guess that's expected for the area. I got the pizza special, with four cheeses and it was fairly good but the crust was a bit fluffy for my liking (I'm a thin crust lover)! The wine (Planeta La Segreta) was a delicious, smooth and easy to drink red. Absolutely phenomenal service, really appreciate the excellent job done by the staff! The Cointreau canoli was just enough to satisfy my sweet tooth at the end of our meal!

Came here for dinner, it was booked out. We managed to get a seat outside. The blonde lady i think it was the owner was very helpful. Food came out pretty quick. There was not many options onthe menu for pastas. Very tepical italian restaurant.

Taken here by my daughter who has just moved into Ascot Vale. Lovely little place serving high quality pizza. Charming staff who know their food. Modestly priced and an interesting wine list that again, is reasonably priced. If located in St Kilda you'd have to book a week ahead to get into a place like this. I'd eat here again in a heartbeat.
Jlp92
Was extremely disappointed. Came here for my sister-in-law's birthday due to the high reviews. However, the service was extremely poor. It began with them serving us a glass of water - WITH A LIVE EARWIG INSIDE. I'm not even joking, when we pointed this out to the waitress (who had poured the water and somehow not noticed this) she didn't even apologise. Just looked at it and said 'Oh' then changed it for another glass. No apology, not even some acknowledgement of what had just happened. Really terrible experience. The plates were dirty and had to be changed twice.
Food portions were very small, pasta was underwhelming - it was barely an entree size and came wrapped in tin foil and baking paper as if it was leftovers from last night's dinner. Pizza base was excellent, the rest of the pizza was average.Calamari had a really tasty coating but the quality of the calamari itself was tough and tasted frozen.
Overall I would not recommend it at all, especially when you don't know how many other earwigs are crawling over your crockery...

After a long day at the Melbourne Show, we stumbled across this gem.
Fortunately they had just opened (5pm) as we were famished.
Noted that this place had won the 2014 best pizza award. Don't usually give much credence to such things, but the entire family were very impressed.
Pizza - fantastic
Risotto - divine
Chicken - super tasty
Lemon Pepper Calamari - amazing.
Can't wait to come back to try some of their other dishes!!

I have to say I was a bit hesitant dining here with the advertising of 'Melbourne's best Pizza' plastered all over the outside. But our meal (consisting of a number of wood fired pizza's) do rival some of Melbourne's best. Perfectly cooked base with great quality buffalo mozzarella. Oh and the fired dough with Nutella was mind blowing!!!!!!
Agedashisophie
Very good pizza. Dough was amazing as well as the tomato sauce. Service was good and discreet. I would not have mind a little more garnish (which was delicious but maybe not enough). Strongly recommend it.
Emma
Love it ! I come back again and again, the pasta and pizza are authentic Italian chewy pizza base, flavour of pasta sauces fab. Staff are so nice always remember you and are so attentive.
Ovata
Amazing. Fantastic food and friendly service. Best pizza and gnocci I've had in a long time.
Deleeshious
Soggy, bland, chewy cold pizza. So very disappointing.
Leon.tsolakis
Great pizza. My wife and I found this place and made a booking because of its awards. Considering ourselves foodies we looked it up on urbanspoon and were disappointed with the reviews. We decided to give it a go anyway. We ordered the sausage and the artichoke pizzas. We have been to most of the top rated pizza places in Melbourne and have searched for the best pizza in rome and florence so we do know a bit about pizza. Contrary to the reviews the pizza was excellent. The base was the perfect thickness, the ingredients were top quality and not stingy. Furthermore the waitress was very helpful without being pushy. I am not sure if this was a one off or if the owners read the reviews and made changes but the experience that I had was equal to any at a pizza restaurant in Melbourne. Pizza restaurants have a tendency to decline once they gain a reputation but Scoozi could not have been better. I will definitely be back and hoping that it was not a one off. Strongly recommended!!!!!!!
John Rerakis
Had a night off so we dined at Scoozi with our family and were treated like family and not a "cover" like many places.you wouldn't expect any less from a local passionate family committed to the industry.the Restaurant is tasteful and the staff very knowledgeable.
Foodsta
Farki, you're either a friend of the owners or a have been paid for your review. Just like you have voiced your opinion so do people who don't enjoy the overpriced food, the pushy service and the average food. There's so much better out there. If Scoozi doesn't want to be judged they can remove their name from the page. Strangely enough, the bad reviews are 3 times the amount of good. There must be a reason as they can't all be wrong. I'm assuming the good reviews come from people without a clue about real food. 68% is pretty average after all. The pizza is good, but I wonder how it can win the Herald Pizza Award and not get a mention in The Good Food Guide. The Entrees here you can find in any cafe and the Mains are well below par for the price and lack any creativity. Who is the Chef?????? Maybe you should get out more and stop comparing Scoozi to the Porchetta.
Farki
Love. I just went through the reviews well poor Scoozi obviously can't please everyone, I have eaten there many many times food is great service amazing, I am going to celebrate my daughters 22nd Friday 13 and have done so her 21st, service food what can I say thats
why im going back. Its obvious the bad reviews are coming from non foodies who have no clue about food and want good food but not pay for it, well guys maybe venture over to Mac's and stop whinging, if you haven't anything nice to say then say nothing.

If I go to a restaurant and don't like it well I just don't go back and at the end the waiter always ask how was your dinning experience with us well there is your chance to tell them instead of bad mouthing them on these stupid reviews, also I suggest you give a restaurant a second chance.
Lachie Swann
Award winning pizza, ummmmm? ??. After waiting an entire month between Christmas and Australia day while this Pizza restaurant took an extended holiday during arguably the busiest take - away period of the year, today I tried Scoozi. I ordered the morton bay bug pizza and all I could think when I saw it was 'scoozi, where on earth is my pizza'. What it was: a $26 marguerita pizza about as big as CD with a morton bay bug (still in its shell!) thrown on top. This was the most disappointing pizza experience I've had. I love pizza, I was starving and I didn't even finish my doughy, under-dressed pizza. Pizza fail.
Mrbeefy81
Love our Local. We love our local pizza restaurant, and always come here for special occasions. Have never had a bad meal here on 2 yrs! Love the nutella pizza!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DP
Really like the place but a little over priced.

Top 10?. Who voted this restaurant in the top 10 in Melbourne? we were told upon arrival how to eat their pizzas properly . have eaten at almost every pizza restaurant in the area, and this one has to be one of the worst. I'm at loss to describe how crap these pizzas were.
Maria Cuda
Starters nice, pizza's OK, price ridiculous. Still trying to work out how I paid $60 per person, think it may have been the up sell. Don't leave it up to Blonde lady with selection of starters as we ended up with 2 starter dishes per person. Not sure if I will go back.
Johngoulas7262
Fantastic pizza. The pizza here is fantastic, backed by friendly helpful service.
Nic Atgerinos
Went to scoozi with my wife and kids, had 2 pizzas, base was great but fillings ordinary, one pizza was the the gamberi, couldn't taste the chilli pesto. Also ordered pasta and broccoli at $21, should have been great, wrong, onion not caramelised and basic flavours for packet pasta. Then ordered lemon sorbet which was great but not enough for the price and most disappointing was the tiramisu, $12.50 for a tablespoon size serving, sorry just does not cut it. Will not be coming back sorry.
Dominique Barker
Outstanding. Definitely the best pizza I've ever had. The bases were exceptionally fresh, as were the toppings. The service was also excellent - will definitely be back.

Bed experience. Who voted for this place as the best pizza?! we had worst pizza ever, even pizza ever! 3cm thick border not cooked burned&black under, soggy in the middle and the base was not a piper pizza base - more like a nan bread. the mushrooms not freshly sliced or porcini, the sauce was like precooked passata not fresh, artichoke was from the tin &mushy we left most of all very disappointed worst pizzas ever!!!!never go back again !!!

56wilton. I live in the area and I have had Pizza takeaway from here on 2 occasions, it was really average food and way over priced, I wish I had read the reviews from here before hand. Would not go back again !!

Was OK Was upset that I h.... Was OK

Was upset that I had to pay for a bottle of water (asked for still). While other people on other tables got a "normal" bottle of water from the fridge. The
waitress brought out a branded bottle of water. Didn't understand that! Why? As only my friend ordered an alcoholic drink & I didn't?

Secondly....people,where's the salt? I ordered a Margherita & my friend a Zingara. NO salt in the dough. Had to ask for it. It's an Italian restaurant, flavour, flavour, flavour!

I gave my pizza a 7/10. Was a little disappointed.

Mobile review. Scoozi; what an appropriately named restaurant as it does need to excuse itself for it's unwarranted inflated prices, pushy staff in your face blatantly trying to upsell food and drinks, laughable dessert portions and to top it off, shoving all diners with kids to the back of the restaurant where they can't be seen or heard. What an outrage.
I won't be a repeat customer at this place that's for certain.

We were greeted by an annoying old blonde waitress that was constantly trying her hand at up selling extras that we did not want. Approximately 1 hour later we received our burnt based, doughy, over priced pizza 's. We would strongly recommend this restaurant if your happy to part with your hard earned dollar for an ordinary meal at a 2 star rating, simply put with nicely starched napkins! Very disappointed and definitely will not be returning.

Being that I have been a regular customer of Scoozi for over 4 years. I felt somewhat obliged to write a review after reading the recent review submitted by Costanza 71. Quite simply, some people just 'CANNOT' be pleased.

I'd also like to highlight that a 'Ragu' is a sauce..... Of MEAT! That doesn't necessarily mean 'chunks of meat'.

For those of you whom decide to treat yourself to a dining experience at Scoozi. If it is you have something preferable in mind prior to ordering, ask your hostess (Amelia). Not only will she describe in detail what is available from the menu. She will steer you in the right direction to ensure you order something that is to your expectations and liking.

As previously stated, I have been dining at this restaurant for quite some time. There are two reasons for this 1) the food, 2) the service.

For those who have not had the pleasure of dining at 'Scoozi'. The Arancini is to die for, I have never once failed to order the Arancini. I just can't. If pizza is your thing, I would suggest either the 'Salsiccia' or the 'Moreton Bay Bug' pizza...... Magic! For those who like a steak, look no further than the Rib Eye. The other never fail to order (due to kids) one of which who is now 18!!!! Is the 'nutella pizza'.

See you there, ciao.

Stingy and overpriced. The following review is based upon my own observations and experience.

Had been to Scoozi a couple of years ago and wasn't overly impressed however being a Saturday night, thought we would give it another go.

Seemingly, it appears that the restaurant Gods were angry this evening....

Our experience. Overpriced and disappointed.

I'm easy to please. At least I think so. I like the food that is presented to actually be as described on the menu - Cooked, and accurately described and represented.

Entrée consisted of the Italian sausages and arancini.

We were served raw sausage which clearly went back. Arancini were lukewarm but at least they were tasty so 1 out of 2 ain't bad I guess.

When I expressed my concerns about being offered raw pork products I was promptly offered a replacement dish. Ok, this is good. But when they brought the next dish around I was kindly reminded about how good they tasted. I was confused. Was the host referring to the raw sausages, or the second round of cooked sausages which I still had to pay for???

On to the main. I ordered the maccheroni incartuccio. Advertised as a rich and tasty ragu with fior di latte cheese. So I'm expecting chunks of beef (or veal) and pork which has been slow cooked in a rich tomato sauce for hours so that the meat breaks down and is melt in your mouth tender and tasty. You know, like you would have it ANYWHERE else. Naturally I thought this dish sounded really nice and having been described on the menu as a ragu figured I knew what to expect.

What I was presented with was rigatoni with beef and pork bolognaise (yes minced meat, not ragu) with some mozzarella through it. The pasta was sitting on grease proof paper which was then completely wrapped in a foil ball which, in my opinion, reminded me of reheated leftovers.

So $21 for Rigatoni bolognaise which in my opinion seems expensive when you can actually have a proper authentic ragu for similar money in town.

When I explained my surprise about having received rigatoni bolognaise instead of the implied ragu, the hostess advised me that this is how they do it. "It tastes good though right??" Ahhhh, in my opinion you set this meal up for disappointment from the start. My assessment was that it was average and certainly not the ragu you claimed it was. Besides, even if I overlook the bolognaise, it was tasteless eg: could not appreciate or savour the meat which is why I ordered a ragu in the first place.

Also, just for reference, most other restaurants serve ragu as I described, not your version. So maybe they're on to something?

I don't think I'm being pedantic on the ragu.... My son ordered the kids pasta bolognaise. He ended up with a half size portion of rigatoni with bolognaise. As advertised. The ragu is different apparently.... on presentation the kids bolognaise appeared to have more meat in it when compared with the ragu dish.

In fairness, the hostess did ask if I would like to choose something else from the menu however by this time I had been disappointed twice in the same dining session and just wanted to leave.

Needless to say I won't be back.
Gabby
Gabby. We have dined at Scoozi many times as it is our local "fav" the service is always impeccable. We took some friends from the other side of town who had read about it and were not disappointed. We shared three entrees between five, the fish croquettes were fantastic, soft fluffy and very tasty, then all had mains. Some pizzas, the hreb crusted salmon on saffron risotto was delish and the gnocchi is surely made from fresh air. Desert tempted only two if us with ricotta filled cannoli and house special donuts calling. They did not disappoint. Thanks Amelia and Phillip a pleasure

Way overpriced for the tiny portions on the plate. I'm walking out of there feeling unsatisfied and still hungry...it's a shame because the food tasted nice. Would not go again.

Decent pizza. What i like about the place is its pizza, nice bread, and yummy cabonnata. Yes it's a bit expensive when comparing with run-of-the-mill stuff, other than that the price is fair. So if wood fire gourmet wood fire pizza is not your kind of thing, then there are plenty of alternatives around. On the other hand, the ambient is not to my taste, - it just doesn't match the food.

Big disappointment. Being a local of the area and of southern Italian background,we been wanting to try this place for a long while seeing it claims to be a true Sicilian rest and Napoleon pizzeria i finally went with the family ,After our exp they need to go back to grand ma (Nonna) and get some lessons, we had rice balls "Burnt and half cold" we had 2 pizzas dry and "tasteless" we had eggplant parm well they must have forgotten to wash the salt off it was so salty we struggled to eat it. portions are very very small and expensive for what you get that was the food, now being a local restaurant I can't understand why they are not BYO the wine list is small and expensive guys stop fooling your self your are local a pizza shop you want bums on seats your not a city restaurant all in all we left being very dissapionted with the whole exp, we wont be going back, their are far better around the area that offer great food with BYO wine and better value for my dollar.

Let's get together for Christmas. A group of 8. It's becoming hard to find an eatery able to supply 8 meals at once without half of the table sitting awaiting for others at the table to receive their meals. Not the case here, congratulation, entree and mains for 8 all on time, hot, well presented and tasty. The Pizza Chef was away the night we visited having had burnt himself which was a shame, just means we will have to return again.... Well done team, you should be proud, Robert Anderson

Stressful dining. Tasty food, well presented, however we were made to feel uncomfortable because of very pushy waitress trying to up sell.

Everyone on our table said they wouldn't return, dining should be a pleasant experience, but not at Scoozi.

By far the best restaurant in the area!
Belisimo signora keep it up!

A big disappointment. Cold .... A big disappointment.
Cold entrée, extremely salty risotto and very chewy pizza topped with over pushy service. Food also overpriced for the quality. Will not return.

Enjoyed a lovely meal with friends.
Amazing tasting foods and delicious deserts. Great service and cheers to the owners. Will definitely be back

Very poor value for money. Nice food but vastly overpriced. I have rarely come away from a restaurant with a feeling of being fleeced, but at Scoozi recently I did. 5 small entree dishes, 4 glasses of wine, a bottle of mineral water and 3 pizzas; $200! Even the toppings on the pizzas were miserly. I should have believed the reviews I read.

Pizza Heaven- For a Price. We liked most of the food, but we disliked the portion-to-price ratio. We just moved in to the neighborhood and ordered take-away; the meatballs, a sausage pizza, and the orange and fennel salad.
The meatballs: it was $11 for 3 medium-sized, very mildly seasoned (read: bland) meatballs swimming in a red sauce. I was a little shocked to find there were only 3 rumbling around the large take-away container; they were adorable, but forgettable.
The pizza: I have been searching high and low for a pizza in Melbourne that isn't laden with oddly chopped deli-ham, copious amounts of highly processed cheese and suffering from an overwhelming crust as thick as my wrist. Until now. A thin, leavened crust with the perfect snap from the oven yet maintaining a tender bite; a whisper of Napoli sauce and (mildly anemic) scattering of real mozzarella; small wedges of fabulously fennel-y sausage haphazardly strewn about on top. Heaven! If you're happy to pay through the nose for it, Scoozi has a pizza that smacks of the backstreet restaurants in central Italy.
The salad: most people won't bother with reviewing a salad, but it's one of my favorite foods and, done right, can end the meal on the right note. This one was no exception. It was perfectly balanced with crisp, fresh fennel, onion and orange segments; the dressing was fresh and had well-balanced acidity. Delish!
We really enjoyed the pizza and salad, but it's not a once-a-week take-away place for us. The prices and portion sizes are unequal to frequent visits. We'd more likely drop in on a weekend afternoon to split a few pizzas with friends when dinner still looms on the horizon. Because spending nearly $45 on pizza take-away and being hungry afterwards is hard to stomach, not matter how good it tastes.

My husband and I loved it. The Moreton Bay Bug pizza was to die for and the homemade gnocchi in burnt butter sauce with crispy sage sensational! The service was superb and the ambience warm, cosy and buzzy. Will definitely return

Just perfect!. I have been only twice to Scoozi, once was 2 years ago and it was fantastic!
The food was great the service was lovely and the hostess (owner) was so lovely. We had been meaning to go back again. So we finally did last night. And it's still fantastic!
The food was just beautiful, real authentic Italian food. And coming from an Italian back ground and having been to Italy, the food was the best I've had at a resturant in a long time including the ones in Italy! The popetti was just like my Nonnas, the pollo and fungi with truffle risotto was perfect, the fungi pizza with truffle was delicious and lets not forget the amazing chocolate pudding with walnuts yum!!!!
The service was great, food was quick and again the hostess was lovely, she really takes care of her customers.
We will definitely be back again!
Thank-you Scoozi!

Fav new haunt. Recently moved to the area and discovered this Union Road Gem. Amazing food, cozy atmosphere and attentive but not intrusive staff. Delicious pasta and Italy-worthy pizza. Also had a lovely wine list. Will definitely be back-frequently!

Hostess and waitresses worth coming back for. Not so sure about food. Pasta too much al dente, sauce too roch and salty, cotoletta not cooked through,
Melb Foodie
Average pizza, prices too ambitious. The pizzas are sized for 1 person to have a meal, and works out to approx $40 for two pizzas. The oven must have been too hot on the day, because the pizzas were too doughy on the inside and burnt on the outside. Very sparse with the toppings. No atmosphere, there were only a couple of others on the night we were there. 400 Gradi is my benchmark so far for good pizza in Melb, and this one just wasn't up there with it.

Very friendly staff, a cosy place and the base was especially delicious!

Really was amazing all round. Blonde hostess and waiter with an accent extremely wonderful. Pizza was delicious (sausage pizza) we also has arancini and ragu pasta. Both delicious but if we were to go back would Order pizza's to try as so impressed with the one ordered tonight! Pizza base was amazing! Yes a little pricey for pizza, but I genuinely felt worth it! Yum!

Nice. We love woodfired pizza & thougth we'd try some where new - excellent service, asked for tap water & still got charged - we shared an entree & each had pizza & a few drinks - $120 later our night out for a pizza because very expensive - would return to try their other menu BUT for a special occasion. AND stick to the local pizza shop for our pizza night out in future

Valentine dinner disappointment. Went there for valentines dinner expecting an eloquent meal however received a very bland gnocchi dish- with little to no flavour. It was actually very difficult to finish the meal. Also when approached upon entering the restaurant, we were given the option of still or sparking water and received a $5 Tap filled Italian water bottle. My partner and I were very disappointed and didn't bother staying for desert. I must say that on the positive the waiter knew the menu and even the ingredients of the dishes. Sadly we wouldn't return for an overpriced bland meal.

Love it. Definitely one of the best pizza places in our side of town.
The extra few dollars per pizza go a long way; you're paying for real Italian pizza made in traditional manner with imported ingredients. Don't complain about overpricing when you're paying for imported ingredients .
You get what you pay for! much better than the over doughy, cheap-ingredients places that are too frequently placed around town.
I had a great evening with my friends, lovely customer service and a calm manner from the staff. Really enjoyed tearing my pizza apart, too! adds to the experience.

Thanks again, will be back soon.

Excellent restaurant. After reading some the the reviews on this website I had mixed feelings about dining at Scoozi, I shouldnt have worried, I had an amazing meal. There is a wide selection of dishes to choose from. The real highlight for me was the authentic wood fired pizzas the simple toppings and thin bases on the pizzas. The service is also very good. I would definately recommend if you're looking for an authentic Italian meal

Was quite looking forward to dining at Scoozi as we enjoy their takeaway. Was unfortunately disappointed. Our Waiter was lovely but the restaurant manager was abrupt and rude, refusing to let us take the remaining 3/4 of our 4yr olds pizza home (strange as they do takeaway pizza!). Will book at Pazza Pizza down the road next time and give Scoozi a big miss.
