We celebrated my 40th birthday here last week in The Middle Room. The room was absolutely perfect! Ample room and seating for all our guests. We had access to the room hours before the function to decorate it as we saw fit. The sound system was perfect for our playlists and speeches. The food was outstanding and the bar staff at our private bar were all extremely friendly to all our guests. They could not have been more helpful.
I highly recommend The Laurel Hotel highly for any cocktail style function.
Thanks for making my 40th a fantastic night!
We had my son's 21st at The Laurel upstairs function room on Saturday night and it was fantastic. Venue was amazing, relaxed atmosphere and food and bar was great. Function coordinator Emma was great and made the booking and payment process easy and the bar and security staff on the night were lovely, accommodating and made sure everyone enjoyed the evening. We had all day from 11am to set up and the option to pack up that night or the next day. Highly recommend. Thanks again, Sue
We had a function in their upstairs space and they were very accommodating. There were AV hook ups and TV for our presentation and we were able to hook up our own music in that space. The staff are very welcoming and provide great service.
I celebrated my 21st in the Middle Bar on Saturday night and it was perfect. My guests raved about the venue and how delicious the food was. The staff were all fabulous, meeting any requests I had promptly. I’d definitely recommend the Laurel for special celebrations, thanks again!
The finger food at The Laurel Hotel is a must have for any special occassion. Delicious, affordable and a great selection. Left our guests satisfied and raving about the food.
Great food and the fire place is amazing! Super friendly staff.
Excellent food, friendly service, my mother and I thought we would drop in for late lunch. Mum commented it was the best Beef burger she had in a long time and I had the Ribs which were amazing. I have had ribs all around the world and I must say delicious and tender.👍
Friday night 3rd August we had my daughter's 18th birthday party in the Middle Bar. It was a perfect venue and size. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the food was very nice. The guy on the bar did an awesome job. Very happy that all the guests had an afantastic night all dressed as something beginning with the letter M. Thanks to both the Lauren's for their hard work too.
Thank you to all the staff and to Megan for her patience and understanding in planning a 21st.
You were all outstanding. Professional and committed to see the event run smoothly.
I will have hesitation in recommending you in the future.
All the best.
Meal was okay. My partner had the steak which he asked to be medium rare however it came out well done. I had the pork belly which was nice, nothing really had a "wow factor" flavour wise. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Great Local Pub. Very good Pub food compared to others in the area. Prices are competitive and good wine list - which is what I look for too. So all round a great venue!
Dined in here on a Friday night with table for 9. The place was pretty full but the service was really friendly and helpful.
Had a mix of items for entree and chicken parmigiana for main with chips and salad.
Food was pretty tasty.
Only negative is that the mains took a while to come out.
Sunday was my first time at their new rooftop bar and I was nothing short of impressed. Such an amazing addition to Ascot vale with its modern design and fun atmosphere. The sun was out, food was great and the cocktails were delicious! The staff were all friendly and the bartender really knew her stuff, giving us great suggestions on drinks and food to try. Definitely recommend this rooftop bar if you are looking for a place to spend a great sunny Sunday afternoon.
Came here for cheap Parma night. And I guess we got what we were expecting! Cheap Parma, decent quality and serving size. Staff were friendly enough, although $4 for a soft drink seemed a bit steep! Not a bad venue, but wouldn't be rushing back, food was nothing spectacular.
The Laurel has a pub atmosphere with amazing fine dining meals.
There menu is extensive and always have a changing specials menu, so there is always something new to try!
The staff are very attentive and the restaurant is family orientated, offering colouring in, which of course I must always have a go at!
I recommend trying the chocolate brownie dessert.
It is a sundae with caramel sauce and honeycomb icecream on top of rich warm chocolate brownie, delicious!
Fantastic service, great steaks, the kids meals were perfect and I can't wait to go back! Didn't get to desserts as the mains were so filling. Love it.
Solid feed, with a grouse crew on a Thursday night. $12 parma! Probs a 7.5/10 on the parma scale. Great accompanied with a few schooners, a group of mates, beats and good vibes.
Thursday Night Parmas!
$12 for an average sized Parma with chips, with 8 different selections, you simply cannot go wrong with that sort of value.
Great vibes and live music, definitely a destination if you are looking for some good food and a laugh with some mates
Stepped in for a couple drinks on a cold Sunday afternoon.. it was a welcome relief from the weather outside as we picked a table near the raging gas log fire. The Bistro wasn't particularly busy with ample tables available and this made me wonder why as it has a very inviting interior with a lovely central bar surrounded by tables. The staff were friendly, but, at times it was difficult to get their attention and it was as though they did their best to avoid making eye contact. This was the only down side with the staff and is an area that they need to improve as other tables could be heard speaking of the difficulty in getting the attention of staff. Patrons drifted in and out without too much commotion all afternoon and it is inviting and worth a visit. Our snacks, wines and beers were all to our liking and our next visit will be to sample more substantial meals.
Confortable relaxed dining room.... I love this place...comfy seating, large tables - in other words not squashed in like sardines...And love the fireplaces...
Great menu, always lotsto choose from,,, everything I have had here has been tasty & staff re always friendly and accommodating...
Also had mums 50th is back private dining area a while back....would recommend this for something special...
Loving the fresh menu at the laurel! Great homey feel to the place, perfect for family meals and had a great steak on Monday for just $15.90!!
Staff were amazing and made me and my friends feel really comfortable. 110% coming back! Thanks guys!
So So Good. And so so consistant....The meals here are a great size...never leave hungry....and great quality which is the main thing...
Love all the different aspects of this pub....cosy bar, comfy dining room & then the rooftop beergarden if we want to party on...
Great venue during spring racing carnival...
Had such a great time here! Had a meal in the bistro, huge steak for just $15.90!! Then came back on the weekend for drinks on the rooftop where there was live music and yummy cocktail jugs! So nice and local, 110% coming back!
2nd time I've had the cutlets... Best lamb cutlets I've eaten apart from home cooked. A must have...
Winter Rooftop. The rooftop had amazing tunes, food, the heaters were nice and warm and they even supplied warm blankets to snuggle up with! When it started to rain they closed the roof - was perfect for a catch up night with the girls!
Great pub..good food. Fun spin the wheel happy hour on a Friday night
AMAZING. Lovely service and fantastic food even though we had their tuesday $10 burgers! Didnt feel like they were being stingy at all! Great food for price
Lots to choose from on the menu, standard pub meals and lots of other dishes to choose from as well. All meals were really nice, service was quick and friendly.
Still good. Still a great place to meet and eat

Is this a Pub?. Saturday night, 12/1/13 my partner and i thought we would try the Laurel Hotel as we are new to the area so along with a couple of friends we went. Walked in and found a fairly groovy main bar and was told the bistro was next door, The decor was so unpublike with its funky bar and relaxed atmosphere and "whats this" table service in a pub. we ordered a round of drinks first then a little later our meals. Saltimbocca was simple but flavours and how it was cooked sensational. Shaz had the prawn and sun dried pesto pasta and again terriffic. as was our friends meals. Keep it up guys we will be back
Localdiner. Having dined at The Laurel, Bistro 289 or whatever they call it now 4 times over the last two weeks of theSpring carnival i am yet to have "a bad one" Twice i have eaten steaks and twice the oven baked chicken with haloumi (yum). Service is good, food has been great and not too hard on the purse in the value area. I am now looking forward to dining there again soon and will recommend it to my friends. A great local hotel with consistency.
Restaurant Quality - yum!. I really enjoyed my experience here. Great quality food, leaning on more restaurant quality then typical pub dining. Totally diasgree with the below comment - Beer Battered Chips were awesome and my friends who dine here regularly actually come for them! Decor modern, fresh and clean. Def reccommend and will return soon...
So much on offer. This little corner pub has so much to offer, esp if you are after good quality food and decent proportions.
If we want something more upmarket and are entertaining friends or fam or have our kids we dine in Bistro 289. But for a more casual evening without the kids we have dinner in the bar or on the rooftop. Good Food, Good friendly Service and Live Music = We have a winner
Christmas Lunch 2014. What a treat we were in for. Having visited once the Beer Garden and having already booked Christmas Lunch I was concerned about making the wrong choice. I HAD NOTHING TO FEAR. The food was magnificent. The staff were all so friendly and helpful and happy. The tables were even set out in such a way you weren't sitting with next door table. The BEST Christmas lunch for sure. Will return to the restaurant. John, the Maitre 'D (for want of a better description) was amazing.
Great friendly service and Peroni and tap. This is a pub with a comfortable restaurant that has a nice ambience, an outside courtyard and a few bars to choose from. The food served in the restaurant is nicely done with very honest offerings and generous servings. If the fish is fresh or frozen, they will let you know upon asking. Service is friendly and capable. They have Peroni on tap. One of the first reasons we visited here was the Peroni on tap, now we stay for a meal as well. For a local pub they do a good job and we shall return regularly. Expect to pay $20-$30 for a main course.
Have to love a traditional pub with yummy wholesome food...best in area by far...
Good food, ordinary service. My wife and I went for dinner Saturday night for the first time as the laurel should be our local pub. For pub grub it is slightly overpriced (say $5 per main for what you get). Our entree took took too long too arrive, staff are friendly but not attentive and we had to wave them down to order food, drinks, water, and cutlery.....I would go back but they have room for improvement. On the positive side I thought the Decore and ambience was really good for a pub.
Best Pub In Area by Far.... Love this place,,, Always a winner...
Food is great and menu very diverse. Nice people inc patrons and staff and just a good place to wine and dine.
Rooftop beergarden is the bomb!!!
Thanks for the memories. We got married at The Laure Upstairs. Happy to say best decision ever. What fabulous service and food. We had loads of positive feedback from our guests. Also found that the venue was meticulously clean and well set up to suit our needs. Well done guys!

+4.5
Delicious!. Great good, good prices! Always very relaxed and the staff are friendly. Monday and thursday are definitely my favourite nights. Monday has $15 steaks in the bistro and Thursdays have $10 parmas in the bar. Great value. Love it!
Having eaten in the Bar many times I decided to take my wife to their bistro for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised by the service and the food! We ate on the weekend at about 6:30 and had the veal and baby snapper and they were restaurant quality. Recommend!
Great old school bistro. Had dinner with the husband and two-year old, and it was great all round. Got there at 6 and ordered very shortly after - service was friendly and prompt. Food was old school and delicious - with the children's menu a real winner and a bargain at $12 for main and dessert. We were in and out in an hour - perfect with a small child. Would highly recommend to families, and I will certainly be visiting again. Great place!
Not bad. The Laurel is a nice place for a quiet meal and a beer. Not outstanding on any level, but can be relied upon for tasty pub fare and cold beer.
We used to visit here regularly but on our recent trip 24/03/2011 it was clear that things had changed. To pay $12.00 for a Childs meal & receive 4 nuggets & a small handful of chips is a disgrace. Then my husbands Med Rare Eye Fillet for $34.00 comes out cooked within a inch of it's life. It's is clear u have new chefs but they can't cook, We were disappointed with our recent experience but the care of the manager on duty will make us give it one more try. Hope it improves
Yum yum yum. Easily the best chips in town. great pub with a great atmosphere. the pork belly was on the specials board and hopefully will go on the permanent menu because its ace! highly reccomend.
Love It!. I have eaten here many times and will continue to do so. Best pub meals ive had in ages and very reasonably priced! Great atmosphere
Great food, great atmosphere. I've had a couple of meals at the Laurel but my favourite by far was my recent visit where I had the chicken salad with roasted pumpkin and pinenuts, great for a relaxed Saturday lunch! The meal was prompt and the staff were only too happy to accomodate when we wised to alter our meals slightly. I'll be eating there again!
Good pub grub in a nice setting.. The Laurel Hotel is located well out of the main drag on Mt Alexander Road, which means it cannot rely on walk ups. As such the management of this bar, bistro and tab have positioned themselves nicely, the Laurel is reliable, tasty and mostly affordable pub grub. Recently renovated, and with a new menu, this is the place to bring the family or friends and settle in for a few drinks, a meal and maybe a frog in a pond. Probably one of the better options on this section of Mount road, and worthy of a session.
Thank you to all who make the Laurel a magnificent place to visit and eat and be merry! Our wedding was carefully planned and was a magnificent evening for all! Thank you to the team for your efforts! The rave reviews about the food from all of our guests keep coming. You’ve made a local pub to be proud of! Thank you, Mel and Liam
the Laurel Hotel is a great pub...service was very good and food was delicious... i recommend it highly...
The Laurel seems to have a great deal menu every night of the week. Parma’s on Thursday for $16 is hard to beat.
Our daughter celebrated her 21st at The Laurel Sat 20th March. We booked the Rooftop area and had approximately 60 guests. The night was BRILLIANT!. From my fist phone call / visit to The Laurel the service at every level was exceptional. Staff took the time to show me all the options available, provided me with all necessary information, were always available to take my phone calls with questions or queries in an utmost professional and warm manner. The selection of food available was excellent. On the night the Rooftop was clean and all ready for us to decorate. It was cosy yet spacious enough for us to have a dozen + dancing the night away at any one time. The food served was absolutely delicious, served piping hot, beautifully presented and served by very caring staff ensuring all guests were fed. The staff behind the bar worked extremely hard and never once seemed flustered or too busy to serve our guests. The level of care and genuine desire to make our night a success was beyond my expectations. A HUGE thank you to Barbara for her administration and organizational abilities to get all organized prior to the event. On the night the HUGEST thank you goes to JOEL for his unbelievable and exceptional customer service, unwavering care attending to every minute detail to ensure the night was running perfectly to the end - and it did! Joel you were an absolute STAR and I can not thank you enough! All of our guests, young and old said what a brilliant night they had, commenting the food was fantastic and plentiful, venue was sensational and loved how it ran so smoothly and was absolute FUN. A shout out too to Lauren for your wonderful staff and to your Chef. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending The Laurel to anyone thinking of book The Laurel for their special event. THANK YOU!!!
