My favourite souv by a mile, I travel from Kew for this. So tasty, petes special is loaded with good stuff. Tasty lamb, haloumi, egg and chips that just take up the amazing sauce perfectly. And it's massive!
Only downside is they close at 8, which makes it hard. If they were open longer I would go more.
Used to visit Pete’s when the original Greek owners had the shop, they sold to an Asian family (as many have mentioned) who have kept the food as it was. Have to say it slipped in standard just a tiny bit, but it’s still a great souvlaki. The guy that serves me is always friendly, and I’m glad they no longer charge 50c for a squirt of chilli sauce in my souvlaki as the previous owners used to do

The old owners would have got a complete score, such a beautiful, authentic Greek family!
The only difference is you can feel the lack of TLC that is put into the food and the shop with the new owners.
The recipe is still the same... the new owners need to take more time instead of rushing the food and watch the portion sizes as well as the wrapping (the meat is all to one side and the other ingredients to another, should be mixed thoroughly). The inside of the shop is very uninspiring and messy/unclean on most days, so take-away is always the better option.
Other than that the flavour is more or less the same. Still better than every other place. It's good to see they didn't change the recipe. And it's very good value for price $$ ($10 for a large souvlaki and I sometimes can't finish the whole thing).
Overall, if you're craving a souvlaki on the go, this is where the best one is!
Well I paid $9.5 for a quarter of chicken with chips and 2 salads. Couldnt finish it all cuz they put in there too much for me to handle. The taste was quite nice, staffs are very friendly. Good place to visit.
Fantastic. Best vegetarian souvlaki in Melbourne. Made with haloumi, generous servings. Staff are lovely and fast too. I'm absolutely addicted.
I'm a local and this place is my go to for a quick, cheap Friday night takeaway. The chips are always piping hot and perfectly seasoned with chicken salt. Yes the staff aren't Greek, congratulations for those reviews below who have made this (racist) observation. What matters is they are super friendly, efficient and smiling! They are always so, so polite. I cannot fault them for this. Also, Pete's is obviously a family business - so I think it's really good to support that. Much love from me Xx
I recently went here for take away chips and gravy and was surprised by the generous portion sizes and by just how many they fit in a container. There are plenty of options and the prices are very reasonable! There is seating available if you want to dine in and the staff were really friendly!
Quick, easy takeaway option. We love Pete's. We usually get a lamb or a chicken pack, take it home, add mountains of salad and that's our dinner. There's usually heaps left over for lunches as well. The chips are really nice as well.
Delicious souvlaki, clean as a whistle shop, friendly service. The souvlaki and the charcoal chicken are both outstanding. Worth a little trek north to find.
Unrivalled. Pete's is the home to Melbourne's best souvlaki, hands down. I have been all over the city trying different souvlaki and kebab joints and without any doubt I can say that Pete's isn't just the best. Pete's is in another league. The friendly faces and authenticity of the people who work there just adds to the always pleasant experience. I've been going back at every chance for two years now.

BEST LOCAL TAKE-AWAY. I was really happy to stumble across Pete's. Service is always very friendly, chicken is great and full of flavor. Their souvlaki are AWESOME!! only downfall is they're not open on Sundays, apart form that cant fault them. If I was ever to move out of the area, I would definitely make the trip back to Pete's.

Honestly these guys make the best chicken and chips around. They have a great variety of salads too and the staff are always super friendly. It's a family business so they all work there; Pete, his brother (lookalike Pete), wife, mother, sister and I think the kids too. Rather go here than Nandos across the road any day (except Sunday- they're closed Sundays so the family can have some time together- fair enough)!!
Tried a souvlaki from here for the first time today. Exceeded my expectations! Such beautiful cuts of lamb & chicken. So tender and full flavour. Will definitely be back 😊
Love this place, the Pete's Special is my favourite souvlaki bar none. I moved out east years ago and couldn't find anything close, so gave up trying and trekked across the city for one occasionally.
It's massive, the sauce is amazing, the chips soak it up beautifully, the lamb so tender and tasty, it's just so good.
The only downside is their opening hours, closing at 8, so frustrating.
