Review Mr. Burton - Ashburton

Simi Batterham
Cute little place. Great for kids, they priorities the kids meals and had very handy little milkshake cups with lids! Food was tasty. However, service for adults is slow, it wasn’t very busy and the acoustics are terrible, with loud music and echoing from people voices and the kitchen pots and pans banging it was almost impossible to hold a conversation across the table.

My daughters 17th birthday afternoon tea was a great success. Astrid and the team were attentive and produced delicious platters of food and beverages. Everything went so smoothly and my daughter and her friends were delighted. She said it was the best party she’d ever had so I’m happy. The courtyard was an intimate and lovely setting. Organising the party was stress free as Astrid made it easy with great communication and valuable suggestions. Highly recommend Mr Burton as a location for functions or casual cafe visits. The team make it a special place.

Amazing food especially breakfast options! Harry has done an awesome job with keeping the menu fresh and unique! Their coffee is just as good as their sister cafe recently opened Miss Ash! The best barista is Tracey! I love the fact that they have skip so you can order ahead which I normally need as I rush to work! It can be a bit noisy for eat im but great seating/space

The male barista was friendly but the female was not at all. No smile, unfriendly tone and behaved as if I bothered her asking for a coffee. Customer service is everything. I won't be back and won't recommend to my friends in this neighbourhood.

Food is always delicious. Atmosphere is nice, staff are familiar, friendly and helpful. We are happy to be supporting this iconic local cafe during these hard times. See you when you reopen, we will be there everyday!

Great ambience and friendly staff. The food is really good - my chicken panini had good flavour and the coffee was well made too.

Absolutely delicious! Will definitely be back. Great coffee and food, and definitely a sweet space. Service was great and the food was really quick to come out 😊

Very nice cafe with great coffee and food. This is on the main strip in Ashburton and has a nice backyard sitting area that is mostly undercover. It also had a little area for the kids to play in with a few toys and a shaded area. This is rather handy to keep the little ones busy while you try and relax with you coffee! There is ample on street parking which makes things a little less stressful. The service (on Boxing Day 2019) was friendly and prompt as early in the morning we almost had the place to ourselves.

We would like to thank you for the amazing time we had on Saturday, both for kids and parents. The kids birthday party went smoothly and I cannot thank you enough for giving the kids such a great party. The feedback I received from parents were all excellent and I would give a special mention to 'Elsa' who was really special and the kids couldn't get enough of her! The food was great as usual, and service was excellent too. Will definitely recommend Fussy Pots to all my friends! Thanks again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Its been a revolving door of visits to see Martina and Tony after discovering FussyPots yesterday... I could taste the love... I asked Tony if he could create a 'soy latte of love' and he certainly delivered.... So as a sign of gratitude I am happy to offer all FussyPots staff and followers a discounted getaway to stay at 65Main Guesthouse (just google it) in Daylesford-Hepburn Springs. Just book direct and use promo code 'fussypots' and you will all enjoy my SpaTown appreciation. Cant wait to get back to Melbourne to enjoy another latte with your team... With gratitude and appreciation, C x

I just went with a couple of friends with our children to this place. The waitress was lovely and very considered, but the other people in charge of the please was a little bit rude and unfriendly with us with our kids. Definitely I don't recommend this place if you go with your kids.

The staff are really friendly and have plenty of beverages to offer at great prices

Everything and everyone is fantastic at Fussy Pots. Best food and coffee ever in Glen Iris and I've lived here for 30 years!

Thanks to the team at Fussy Pots for a wonderful 4th birthday for my daughter Sienna, she had the time of her life and I didn't have to lift a finger. Great party venue

Well done Kristy and team on hosting a fabulous 5 year old birthday party! All the kids had a ball - the entertainment and craft activities kept them fully engaged and the food was a great mix of healthy and party options. Highly recommend to anyone as a party venue.

I cannot thank you all enough for making 4 year old feel as special as you did on her 4th birthday. You all did an amazing job taking care of us all. Thanks Adriana and Sascha

Awesome food and great service!!!!!

Give the people two slices of toast when we order eggs on toast.

The customer service is extremely disappointing. The young girl who works there is extremely rude and should greet customers in a more friendly manner. Same can be said for the owner. If it wasn’t for the talented chefs and baristas I would not come to this establishment.

Service was average, people next to us who came in after us getting served whilst we were ignored and serviettes dropped on our table as staff member was heading to the next table to clean up the mess on our table. Food was average for the price and so was the coffee.<br/><br/>The place looks nice, but lacks execution.
The Brunchabout Diaries
A lovely, comfortable and modern brunch place in Ashburton. It has most of the classic brunch items on the menu as well as a few unique ones. I got the halloumi and corn fritters with avo, bacon and salsa. It was really yum, my only issue was the dish was a little small. My friend got the Mexican chicken burger and said it was delicious, and the chips were nice and crunchy too. It has seating inside but also outside which would be nice for the summer.

Second time here, love the backyard in sunshine. Delicious food and friendly staffs. Best brunch place on the street. Rate 5 stars for the power bowl here.

I had a delicious almond milk flat white! It was a bit long to receive it (school holiday) but worth the wait since the coffee was not acidic at all but yummy!

We came for a late breakfast and ordered a salmon florentine, pancakes and the kid's nuggets and chips.<br/><br/>The service was friendly and quick, food arrived in a timely manner and the dishes were presented beautifully.<br/><br/>The kid's meal was very generous. There were no complaints with the pancakes either. My florentine was very nice. The only element of the dish I didn't enjoy was the multigrain toast. It was thick and became all doughy and smushy.<br/><br/>Otherwise, enjoyable breakfast meal.
Burgers Of Melbourne
Spanish scrambled eggs were nice. Had a nice kick with the charizo. Also tried but not pictured was a poridge.<br/><br/>A good venue for toddlers as there is a good play area out the back.

Immediately greeted on arrival by a super friendly staff member! <br/>Warm and friendly! <br/>Great food, great menu, felt like a home cooked breakfast which I loved <br/>Will come back to try more <br/>Would recommend if you lived near the area <br/>

I do quite like High Street, Ashburton. There are quite a few nice cafes (The Oak Room, Two Seeds and Mr Brownstone are among the better ones). Towards the very end of the shopping strip, opposite the local library, is Mr Burton. Despite being located a bit further from all the other cafes, Mr Burton has a serious buzz to the place. Inside it's a little bit squishy and a little bit too loud, but the sunny courtyard was a perfect spot for us.  <br/>I went for a healthy option - grilled mushrooms on a bed of spinach and cauliflower 'hummus' on sourdough. The mushrooms were nice and meaty in texture. The spinach was just delicious - fresh and perfectly wilted - I could have eaten a whole plate of this spinach! Despite not being that much of a fan of cauliflower, this 'hummus' was rather nice - there wasn't too much cumin used in the seasoning which suited me just fine. The bread was delightfully sour, chewy and had a beautiful fluffiness to it.

When we arrived at this cafe we were immediately greeted and seated. We found staff here were exceptional and really cared for their customers. Food was epic! We enjoyed the Eggs Benedict and the Blueberry Pancakes. Both dishes were really nice and filling. Presentation was certainly on point

Wow! Firstly how pretty is this colour! It looks insane! Mr Burton is such a cute cafe surrounded by tons of shops along high street Ashburton<br/><br/>The customer service was so good and the menu variety was vast! The staff are so accommodating to dietary needs which is also a massive bonus! The interior was pretty and it was such a cosy environment to be.<br/><br/>Now let's talk about the food! So I decided to go with this pitaya bowl because it just sounded amazing. Kind of regret not ordering the porridge as well but I guess it means I'll come to revisit! This was literally bouncing with flavours. It was so yummy and refreshing and a great way to healthily start my day. The proportion was smaller than I had expected and was not worth the price

The ‘Cheeseburger with tomato, pickles, Mr B special sauce, served with chips ($15.00)’ was absolutely brilliant! I’m not a big burger eater but this burger is one that I would gladly order again. The fillings were tasty and the burger was just the right size for my appetite. Now for the chips… you won’t get better chips in Melbourne than these bad boys. Their special coating made them super crunchy and fabulous.

Popped into Mr Burton for some brain food this afternoon and was greeted immediately and pleasantly. The place is clean and the decor is not overbearing. Ordered the Eggs Benny and a coffee. Coffee was nice and creamy, could've been a little hotter. Food was delicious and came with a generous amount of avo which is always appreciated! Wait time wasn't long either (although there were only a few other people in the cafe at the time). Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu!

Lovely to see a cafe like Mr Burton's open at nights. Variety of no fuss, main staples food but incredibly tasty and done very well. Service is nothing short of impeccable - and very accommodating.

Corn and haloumi fritter was excellent, perfectly complemented by the crispy bacon and avo.<br/>Hotcakes were delicious, perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess!

The service here was really good! The staff were fun & you could tell that they all got along well. Me & my friend shared the corn fritters & waffles. I would say the flavors we're really good! However for the price you paid I think the portion sizes should have been bigger. The chai was good tho :)

There's something about Mr Burton that just makes you want to order more and sit there for as long as possible! The hospitable environment, the delicious and high quality food and great vibes at this restaurant tick all the essential boxes. We love their modern menu with some Greek inspiration. Top dishes were the maple sprouts, porterhouse steak, corn and the halloumi skewer. Drinks are great and reasonably priced too. The owners are lovely beyond words! We'll definitely be back!

A classy and trendy café on High Street Road. The décor is modern, bright, uncluttered, and features polished boards, exposed brick walls and some wood panelling. The dining space is elongated, with a rear courtyard, and there is a bench facing the glass façade. There is some outside seating separated from the road by a timber-faced partition, and inside the timber table settings are plain but attractive. I was welcomed in and promptly provided with water and a menu. The service was friendly, chatty and attentive. The menu was interesting, with several vegetarian choices, and I opted for the mushroom medley bruschetta, which was nicely presented, and quite filling. The coffee was also very good. The place had a nice relaxed vibe, with some fairly MOR rock classics softly playing in the background. Definitely worth dropping by.

Absolutely wonderful.<br/>Went as a group and from the moment we walked in until the moment we left the staff were very attentive, lovely and accommodating.<br/>The food was simply amazing so tasty and very well presented. <br/>We will definitely be back. <br/>What a find such a gem in our local area.<br/>

I don't normally write reviews for restaurants, but was prompted to comment on this particular one. Was seated in the courtyard for an impromptu dinner as inside was booked out. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with the ambience. Drank Froses and wine and ate perfectly rare steak. Such a lovely dining experience. The wait staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, which made our dining experience delightful. Will definitely be back. Congratulations Mr Burton.

Disappointed with this promising new restaurant. The seating arrangement is uncomfortable at best, sitting up against a brick wall with out even a cushion for support... when I asked to be moved I was told all 3 tables would be pushed together for a reservation. I find another seat to which the chairs are also uncomfortable and see that these tables are not in fact pushed together but new walk ins are seated there. Menu is not particularly diverse, Food is ok, coffee and juices are lovely. Staff efficient but unfriendly. I'll only be back for takeaway coffees.

Delicious food. Well thought out menu, with dishes worth the hipster cafe price tags. I've been here a few times now, and each dish has been spot on with balancing flavors. So I take my hat off to the kitchen staff. My concern is more for the service, which at times is odd.<br/>The only way I can describe it is that the manager as well as the barista have at times had had the attitude that we should be utterly pleased we were even allowed to be in their presence. Very high and mighty. Asked for a second coffee and I had the barista actually roll her eyes at me and give me a very sarcastic fake smile and "yep sure I can do that!". Whatever was bugging her, I'm not sure how I was the problem and why I deserved the attitude.<br/>The other staff have always seemed very accommodating and lovely, and need to be given the kudos they deserve.

Came here for a coffee on a Tuesday morning. Ordered at the counter and waited a surprising 25 minutes for a latte. Had high hopes for the newly opened cafe but a bit disappointed as I wouldn't have minded waiting if there was a simple "sorry about the wait" from the barista who delivered the coffee herself. A change in attitude could turn the whole experience around. However the food looked good, so maybe the staff were just having one of those days!
Dylan Batterham
Put it this way, they are lucky that their coffee and food is great because the service when they're busy is seriously slow. An hour wait for coffee isn't good enough. Put more staff on when you know it will be busy.

Highly recommend this new restaurant. Was pleasantly surprised by the nice selection of well chosen wines. Will be going back again.  We want to try the breakfast menu next.

Really happy this little place has opened up in the area- visited a few times now for brunch, cocktails and dinner. The eggs benedict is great and Bloody Mary was spot on. Best frose I've tried, they do a great espresso martini too- and the courtyard is the perfect spot for these. For dinner we found everything cooked on the grill was amazing, had such flavour. The manager/owner lady was super friendly and welcoming too with lots of good suggestions. A great addition to the neighbourhood!

Saw this new restaurant open recently in my area and decided to give it a try for dinner. Everything we tried was excellent and good wine recommendation by the staff. Been back for breakfast twice. My standard of poached eggs, great. Second visit tried the corn fritters from the specials board and was glad I was adventurous. I'll be back!

As a local it's so great to have a place like mr burton finally open! <br/>Went here and for breakfast last week. Great coffee and the breakfast was amazing! I had the smashed Avo! Backed it up the next day with cocktails in the courtyard with friends! Amazing! Definitely be back to try the lunch and dinner menus, hardest part will be what to choose!

Have been here twice! Food incredible! Service great! I have booked a function for January as so impressed ! Well worth the price! Wish I lived closer as I would dine here every night. You won't find a better restaurant in this area . My advice....get yourself there...you won't regret it!

I love, love, love this place! The breakfasts are great (the Bircher and the pancakes, my personal faves) and the coffee, delish. The steaks on the dinner menu are cooked perfectly. This is my new 'go to' place. Well done Mr Burton 👍🏼 Ps. Great courtyard too

Judging from other reviews we must have arrived at the wrong time or something but took ages for staff to acknowledge our existence and to seat us. Once seated we had to get our own menus and track down the waiter to order.<br/>Kids eggs were on old toast and savoury muffin bland. Coffee ok<br/>When paying server clearly disdained being there, commented that this was paying for trip overseas...<br/>Might have had a bad experience due to teething problems but staff attitude needs a look into.

Took my family in for a breakfast over the weekend, the service was lovely and inviting, the food fresh and flavoursome and the coffee was divine. I highly recommend this place and can not wait to go back for dinner to try out some of the steak range !! well done to owners on a beautifully presented venue & Menu

Came in here for lunch with some friends the other day as this place had only recently opened and was pleasantly suprised. Exceptional coffee, great service and the food was phenomonal! Will definitely be returning.

Lunched there today. We were made welcomed and seated immediately. There were 5 of us and the table was against the wall bench seat which did not have a cushioned back. There was a cold draft coming up from it. A bit uncomfortable. To the food: hamburger was pronounced a success. Semolina fried calamari and salad very good. The black barley with farro and rocket with pomegranate seeds was excellent good wines by the glass on offer. Good experience overall. Just the draft could be fixed with a back cushion. Great addition to Ashburton. Obviously a very expensive fitout but worth it for an enjoyable dining experience. Will return

We've been watching with anticipation, waiting for Mr Burton to open. Have now gone for brunch and dinner each time with ring-ins from other areas of Melbourne who have raved about it; fantastic food and great service. The steak and the crays are worth writing home about but the brussel sprouts were a tiny portion and missing 'something'. Really nice to have a local option of somewhere to enjoy a glass of wine with lunch or dinner.

Walked down on a Thursday night, ordered a porterhouse, each of the skewers, rosemary chats and steamed greens between two of us. Perfect amount of food, steak with herb butter sauce was brilliant. Haloumi skewer could do with more haloumi. We will go back again, thanks!

There was a collective sigh of relief from locals when this little gem opened up recently. Starved for years of any decent restaurant in the hood, this place is what we've been hoping for. Delicious and interesting food, warm and attentive service and a hip fit out .....I'm in love.

In my opinion the best cafe in Ashburton.<br/>The eggs Benedict was lovely: it had the best ham hock and yummiest hollandaise and the eggs cooked perfect runny in the middle. Not too sure about teaming it with mashed minted peas, as I felt the peas distracted from the awesomeness of the other ingredients. Maybe asparagus would have been a better choice. <br/>Coffee was lovely, nice decor and husband loved his salmon omelette in a croissant which he said was very generous on salmon!<br/>
Sass
Nice surrounds, decent coffee. I had the avocado smash. A little too lemony but the taste was fine compared to the price. $16.50 for a single piece of rye bread and small scoop of mash just doesn't cut it. At that price point an egg or two pieces of toast and a decent amount of avo seems more reasonable.
Kate
Funky new cafe in High Street Ashburton! This is exactly what the area needs. Stylish fit out, great service and excellent coffee. I've also been here for lunch and the cos salad with chicken was amazing ... and I don't usually get too excited about reviewing salads :) Love the fact they're licensed, so you can have a glass of wine or sparkling with lunch. Having coffee this morning and the mood is relaxed, with great music playing at just the right volume. This place is going to give the other cafes along the strip a run for their money, and if they continue to serve consistently good coffee and interesting food, it will definitely become my new local.

Visited on the opening weekend for breakfast, had the Ham Hock Benedict with smashed peas... food was excellent, coffee is great and the service was very pleasant. Would definitely visit again.

After watching the renovations with anticipation, we visited Mr Burton for their opening weekend of dinner service and were very happy with what we found. <br/><br/>Attentive staff and good food is always a winning combination!<br/><br/>We shared the king prawns, chicken and beef skewers, charred corn and chips. The king prawns were outstanding! A couple of glasses of the Ana Sav Blanc and a shared chocolate fondant for dessert and we left very happy. While it wasn't the cheapest meal we've had, the quality of the food, friendly atmosphere and the fact we could simply walk home made it a great night. A welcome addition to High Street Ashburton.

Coffee is great and the choice on the menu for a vegetarian is great. Nothing is an issue and any adjustments are handled with a great yes attitude.

Welcome to Ashburton village.<br/>Mr Burtons great sleek fitout has been taking shape for months after gutting "Fussy Pots".<br/>Run by a husband (chef) and wife (front of house) with the requisite tattooed baristas this looks a likely place<br/>Coffee is from Reverence and bread by Noisette - a great start<br/>I had the mushroom bruschetta ($16) on the opening morning today - could become their signature dish<br/>Delicious and promising start to becoming a local favourite
