Review Zahari Cafe - Ashburton

I come here with my partner and his family, all the staff are chatty and fun and the cakes are great with a lot of variety, we also order them to take home at birthdays and Christmas. I like getting iced coffees here too.

Especially coming into summer an iced latte a piece of homemade baklava is the perfect after-work pick me up. The staff here are always so friendly and the coffee is great.

Fabulous Cafe. Highly recommended. Cakes and pastries baked on the premises, with nice range of reasonably prices meals and treats. Service is friendly and prompt and the coffee is good !

Sampled from a magnificent selection of Greek desserts from here today. Awesome one of the best galaktoboureko I've had aside from my mum in law's.

I love your cakes! Its a shame the your have closed to the public and only online orders. Do you have a local shop or pick up times we can get an order

So sad that they no longer make their hot donuts or any savoury items. Such a shame! The customer service has also declined. <br/>However, if you are after cakes and coffee then this might be a cute option.

Came here to get a souvlaki but they no longer sell them, so disappointed. Was told they stopped 6mths ago, so ignore the menu posted on zomato! Their menu only consists of what is displayed in the cabinet which is basically only cakes, donuts and a few pre-made foccaccias. They have a small selection of Gelato, not house made so wouldn't bother as much better out there. Place has ample parking shared with KFC. Have eaten here in the past when they did have souvlaki and cafe menu. I won't bother coming back now. <br/><br/>We didn't order anything and walked up the road and found some decent $9 souvlaki at the charcoal chicken shop.

This place serves up the most divine cakes! I often come here for their salted caramel mousse. I also love their shortbread biscuits, donuts, Oreo cheesecakes, tarts, little chocolate mousse cups... There's so much to love and eat! The cakes are fresh. I've only ever experienced one slightly stale cake and that's been one in maybe a dozen visits. <br/><br/>My friends and I have also bought large cakes for birthdays and events in the past. No complaints. Always beautiful and taste delicious. <br/><br/>I'm yet to try from their breakfast or lunch menu. Always too busy eating cake. <br/><br/>My only negative is that on the two occasions I've tried the gelato they've tasted terrible. I don't rate the gelato. <br/><br/>Staff are very friendly and welcoming.

I wound up here for cake and coffee. The mini-cakes are a really great idea. My friend and I had a "degustation" style dessert and coffee. The cakes were delicious and the bill came in under $20. This place is down the road from home, with free and ample local parking. So we were well ahead already. The cherry on the cake was the staff.  The service was warm and friendly and staff actively engage with guests to ensure that they're being "looked after".  I'd have given them a five, but the décor could use some freshening up.  Great job, guys!

You should check this place out just for the chocolate milkshakes alone. Not cheap but they have heaps of ice cream and are well worth the price.

I ordered a lamb souvlaki, it was the most horrible souvlaki I have eaten. The meat was chargrilled big cubes of it, looks like it come off a stick/kebab the tomato was thick and the cucumber pieces were even thicker.

Amazing food, great staff. The avocado experience is a breakfast must have! Don't be put off by the location, this place will become a regular of yours in no time.

Grabbed an early tea here today.  Loved the friendly  greeting in this super-casual cafe.  We were here for the 'souvas', and there's a great selection.  Cutting to the chase, the O/H went with 'Meat Lover's Souvlaki', this is a feast in itself.  While he chose to leave off the tzatziki (I know, but what can you do?), everything else on it was his idea of a good thing, not one, but three meats (he went lamb and chicken), but it includes bacon as the third meat,  bbq sauce (see, I mean who has bbq sauce of souvlaki?), chips and salad.  He finished the lot.  I chose the 'Zahari Skewers' and stayed trad. with lamb, it includes pita, tzatziki, salad and chips.  The lamb was beautifully cooked, charred on the outside, and pink within.  The meat was difficult to get off the first skewer, I think the burnt end had swollen the wood or something, but the second was easy.  Yum.  We shared some good chips topped with oregano and a lovely creamy feta.  Two kids had the saganaki, and the third chose the Grilled Calamari.  This was such a generous serve of calamari, the likes of which I have never seen.  I am told it was perfectly tender too.  <br/><br/>We also indulged in milk shakes of various flavours, though unfortunately they were not able to indulge my O/H in his favourite - spearmint - today.  There was some gelato at the end, (lemon lime made a delicious change from the usual lemon I go for) and we have taken some cakes away, they look great, we have yet to try though.  I am told the coffee is of a very good standard too, by my coffee-addicted partner.  <br/><br/>We did not see any options for the fancy milkshakes like the image above (with extra toppings).<br/><br/>Great service, good prices, relaxed, casual, no frills cafe.  Worthwhile.

comfortable little cafe with DELICIOUS deserts!!! <br/>they can also make a great Greek coffee which I really appreciate. <br/>The food didn't really stand out to me, but that's all okay when the sweets are to die for! <br/>We had the louklumades (with Nutella) and baklava (almost better than yiayas but shh don't tell her 🤐) <br/>Oh and not to forget the customer service, we were served my an extremely helpful younger girl who made my partner and I both smile and feel welcome in the cafe, just lovely! <br/>Will be returning very soon:-)
The Whippeteers
Stepping inside Zahari, you are GREETED by photos of a WELL DRESSED MAN.<br/>"Who are the photos of?" this Whip enquired.  "The Greek FRANK SINATRA" we were told.  GOT IT!<br/><br/>Because Zahari is next to KFC, with attached signage, we thought it was linked somehow, BUT NO!  GOOD! The Double Shot Macchiato, was SUPERB.  But too strong for this Whip.  Needed extra milk. "You should have got a PICCOLO!" we were told.  We live and learn, hey!<br/><br/>Ps this Cafe is open LONG HOURS, and will be open LONG AFTER all the HIPSTER BARISTA'S  have gone shopping for their VINTAGE bicycles etc.. Lol.

Food : Serves an awesome iced coffee. Really intense and smooth, blended with premium vanilla ice cream. Huge selection of cakes/sweets, mostly Greek. <br/>Service : Service with a smile, really helpful staff when it came to choosing desserts.<br/>Ambience : Lovely to sit outside or inside

this cafe is located next to a fast food eater and great location. I've been for their breakfast and tried their big breakfast and was absolutely delicious! big servings and the eggs cooked perfectly. they also have some greek sweets like the loukamades which are greek donuts and they are very sweet but tasty. overall great experience
Hello. Imnikki
Excellent customer service always makes my day. The owner/manager (?) was a jovial and easy-going fellow who was patient enough to let me umm and ahh in front of the cake fridge for a good 5 minutes before ordering and also was kind enough to portion the chicken and avo sandwich into two individual servings as me and my partner were sharing. Taste-wise, the chicken was a bit dry but in the chicken's defence, it was lean breast meat. However, with the sauce, creamy avo and crusty bread, it goes down easily. The loukoumades was made fresh to order and came out piping hot. Digging in, we bit into the crispy skin and was rewarded with a pillowy soft interior with strong hints of honey. Very indulgent so non-sweet tooth be warned! Instead of vanilla ice cream, we tried the choc peanut butter and was left wanting a stronger peanut butter flavour. Coffee was satisfactory, so was the hot chocolate. But the best thing was definitely the warm hospitality that we received.

I love this place! The souvlakis are fantastic and they have an exceptional range of delicious deserts, all made in house. The make a great Greek coffee too!

Zahari is the place I go to when I need a good coffee after 5pm. It's open till at least 7pm on all days, and till 10pm on some. The coffee is strong and robust. Cakes are delicious too.

Great souvas and deserts. Would be good if the outdoor part was in the shade in summer. Can get real hot in the sun. I like to take the dogs there for breakfast.
Kevin
Only had the icecream from here and it was delicious. <br/><br/>My rating is purely based on the icecream. <br/><br/>The other cakes etc looked okay. But not my thing.

Always stop by with a group of mates after work. The food is fantastic with very very generous portions, the coffee is amazing, especially the Freddo Cappuccino and Freddo Espresso!!<br/><br/>The staff are very friendly and service is fast. <br/><br/>Love the cake display - there is such a variety of cakes and pastries. The friendliness of the owner and the staff also contribute to the warmth of the place and give the cafe that friendly vibe bringing back memories of what cafes are like in Greece.<br/><br/>Will be seeing you all soon!!

Good Coffee however temperature could have been hotter. Chocolate croissant was great. Some of the best we have tried in Melbourne. Thoroughly enjoyed the bread flavours and would probably visit again.

What a cake display! It's like being a kid in a candy store....... Which one do I pick? The strawberries on the strawberry tart look so tempting that I just had to pick it. Tasted as good as it looked and the coffee was great too! Shame about their next door neighbor, I almost drove straight past! <br/>Do yourself a favour stop in for a coffee and cake.
Emily
Good value for the souvlakis!!! Took awhile to get service and the food was a little slow coming out but it was worth it! Cute little cafe. <br/>Zahari Souvlaki, was delicious. <br/>The toilet door didn't lock which was weird and uncomfortable. There was also, toothpaste, mouthwash, and hair colour in the toilet which is also reallllllly strange. But all in all, had a good experience!

Walked in no greetings? Got our own highchair, and got our own menu. Waiter was there he saw us but still no communication. I asked to have the heater on because cafe was freezing and then he was upset but didn't put it on. Still no communication ? I would not go back, just was a cold looking cafe.

That amazing donut!. I came in for takeaway coffees for work and decided on a spur of the moment to get a mini jam donut for each of us. They were DIVINE! The coffee was lovely but the standout was certainly those little balls of deliciousness!

Great cakes!. I have bought a few cakes over the last few months from Zahari, the latest being last Friday for my son's birthday. I chose the chocolate mud cake and also bought some mini lemon meringue, lemon curd & blood orange tarts to surround the cake. I have nothing but praise for the quality of the cakes and the friendly service given. By the way.... the cake was an absolute success and was devoured by my son & his friends!

A pleasant brunch - new menu. We walked in for brunch on a Saturday and we Saturday in the sunny spot inside around 10am. We were served by a young girl who mumbled but I assumed she asked if we wanted drinks and food!? I orders poached eggs with smashed avocado and bacon. My fiance has always ordered the bacon, egg and cheese on Turkish bread but it wasn't on the new menu. He was able to order it from the display. Coffee took ages to come out and were quite small to be honest. Food was good, my eggs were unevenly cooked but ok. Bacon was excellent quality but could have been cooked more. Ended up sweating by the end of the meal due to the sunny spot so was quick to pay and get fresh air. Maybe back to try sorbets and ice-creams.

Went here for breakfast and ordered the Zahari breakfast and must say one of the best I had. The eggs cooked perfectly and was full and satisfied at the end. Took a while to come out but was worth the wait.

Love this place! Good quality, delicious food and great value for money. My poached eggs are always perfect for breakie AND they have the best chicken skewers in Melbourne! (Just try, you'll agree). The staff are all very friendly too. You won't be disappointed.
Coffee Please
Great Brekky. Warm, friendly staff. Breakfast was cooked as asked (I'm a fussy eater) , large portion and very tasty. Coffee was excellent. Next visit I'll be trying the honey dumplings. Old couple next to me had them and they looked awesome!
OssiOi
Staff were quite pleasant but given there was only one other table we were quite suprised that it took over ten minutes for drinks and 40 mins for the meal. Maybe a late Sunday brunch but not if time is of the essence

Tasty and friendly. Nice new cafe-like with cakes, biscotti and amazing gelati. Had two coffees here and both were great, nice and strong unlike most of the watered down stuff in the area. Haven't tried the cakes but they have a large selection and the kitchen has a nice variety too. <br/><br/>Standout for me has been the gelati. My favourites are the blood orange and the pomegranate. Both fresh and striking flavours if you like something tart.<br/><br/>Staff are nice. Friendly and helpful. Outdoor seating is good but a little noisy from the Warrigal/High st intersection. Water bowl for dogs is provided :)
