Review Manmaruya - Ashfield

Fonti Kar
We came on a Sunday night and they were very under-staffed. Dishes left on the tables from previous customers. It took a while for us to get the menus, and put in our order. Wait staff had given us the wrong flavoured ramune. Food took 15-20 mins at least. We got okonomiyaki, takoyaki and deep fried octopus to share. Its hard to distinguish the okonomiyaki and takoyaki in flavour. They both had the same batter just shaped in different forms. The fried octopus was a little bit overdone but still nice with the lemon. For mains, the spicy tan tan ramen had a nice creamy complex broth, would recommend. The staff were distracted because even when we specified no bean sprouts in the ramen, it was still placed on. We also go the ebiten udon set menu with gyoza. Simple brother and tempura made well. The katsu chicken bento was massive but I didn’t have a taste. We also ordered a mini ramen which for side dish came we would have preferred if everyone’s order arrived more or less the same time. I think all the patrons that night had a similar delayed service. Bathrooms need attention. The toilet flush buttons and the tap handle are broken in the ladies. Its the little things that matter and ruin the dining experience. Good food and value but front of house need a lot of work.

Ordered the meal from UberEats and pick up but unfortunately the order hasn’t ready for pick up even the app showed the meal is ready. Ask staff for twice but seems they prefer to talk with dining customers and let me waited for almost 20 minutes. Also, there’s a hair been found up to the box and the box was not closed properly. Extremely not recommended.

As a transport service provider, my customer requested me to take to good Japanese restaurant for lunch. When I search in google and found this restaurant. Everyone of my customers were very hungry as it was about 2 PM. This is the best decision I made taking them to this restaurant. All 11 group of customers thanked to me because I took them to this restaurant. This is the multiple reasons what I get from my 11 customers about this restaurant. 1. Very friendly waitress, chef and other staff 2. Food taste is very nice 3. The portion of food is very big. It’s worth what they paid. Personally, I recommend everyone to go and taste Japanese food in this restaurant. I promise you will be a regular customer.

We had a fantastic lunch meal here. The food was excellent/ well priced. Definitly reccomend the chicken karage (make sure you get the curry sauce as an extra, it's worth it and it's delish) and the salmon sashimi is also great. Thanks for the amazing meal !!

Food is fresh and really good in comparison to other japanese restaurant. 100% recommend this place if you wanna have some quality time and have good food with your friends or family. Staff are friendly, chefs are really awesome. Overall delicious food.😋😋

Great food as always, not sure why there are some reviewers saying it has changed, we didn’t have the same experience, so I thought I’d update my old review. Friendly service and food was still delicious, highly recommended!
Natalie Siu
Soup base for the ramen was mediocre not really rich at all and the teriyaki chicken a bit on the dry side. For the ramen, they give you two really thin slices of pork as well. The aburi salmon pieces were also not of great quality either. All in all mediocre experience and quality of food
Nelson Luc
Great food and friendly service. The bento boxes and ramen are really good value. They close on Mondays. Love the Kaarage chicken with Japanese Mayo.

OK... this place is AMAZING. Thanks to my flatmate for introducing it to me. (He said he ate there about 3 times a WEEK when he lived in the area!).

Great intimate vibe, not too noisy, and the food is so authentic and delicious. The servings are very generous, and well priced, and the food is of great quality.

The deep blood red colour of my dining companion's tuna sashimi was a good indicator that the food is lovingly chosen and prepared.

My Chicken Karaage Ramen was tasty as all hell, and incredibly filling.

I've already been back since my first time dining here. It's really THAT good!

Great food and prices! With such a large menu you’re guaranteed to find a meal you love! Will definitely be coming back here :)

Ordered: Eggplant miso steak ($9) and double curry (pork mince, beef, soft shell crab, karrage chicken) ($24). The dishes were all very wholesome, curry was average wishes it had sone veggies to break up the overwhelming pile of sauce and rice. Curry is a bit of an average dish in general, it’s hard to be impressed by this dish. The miso eggplant on the other hand was perfection such a great flavour and texture.

I won’t ever order the Sashimi plate here again. I’ve never had tuna this bad before! Its extremely dry and hard to bite into. Sashimi should be cut fresh and kept cold yet it was uncomfortably warm and seems to have been pre-cut and left out in room temperature conditions in which is a very big health hazard.

I ordered the spicy miso ramen which was excellent. Noodle was chewy and the soup was thick, salty and deliciously spicy which clung to the noodle making every mouthful a delight. Absolute bang for the buck. Will update again after I try the spicy tan tan ramen.

Excellent food and service. We were the first diners to arrive at lunchtime. All the menus given to us were very greasy and one had to wash ones hands before eating. Why do they insist on not giving clean menus to diners.?Not a good image .My overseas friends were not impressed.

Food: Very well priced and delicious with a great range.
Service: Friendly, personable staff
Ambience: I need to know where they get their photos of Tokyo from. I have serious envy.

I love this place so much. My flatmate and I go here almost TOO regularly. We love taking friends here who always love it nearly as much as we do.

Protip: They have mini ramen for $6 with any main meal purchase. This mini ramen isn't very mini!!!!
Sukhjitau
I have been searching for good ramen for many years and this is one of the worst ramen that I have eaten. The pork is not fresh, the butter is not dissolved, no salt taste as I have ordered a shio soup base and not authentic at all. I would not recommend this place and I don’t know why it’s rated as 3.8 when I searched it.
Tell
Gone badly downhill. Quality of the food is quite poor, our ramen was totally tasteless, we had to ask for more miso! The stock was from a packet. Service slow and unprofessional, refusing walk around the table just handing dishes to the nearest person.
Tortuguita Comiendo
This was an impromptu lunch but was good.

I got a pork based ramen. One, the size was huge. Two, the soup base was thick and really full of flavour. There was lots of ingredients in it. You get two sheets of seaweeds, two char sui, heaps of corn, bamboo shoots and fungi mushroom.

My friend ordered an eel bento box and added a mini ramen. He thought the mini ramen was pretty big so it was a lot of food.

Wait time:
The food arrived in a timely matter expected of any restaurant roughly 10-15 minutes.

Price:
Prices are extremely worth it as you basically get your bang for your buck here! I'm sure many customers would be satisfied with their prices

Quality of Food:
Food tasted superior to many ramen restaurants I've eaten in. However the broth of the soup is definitely not as salty as traditional ramen, though just my personal preference.

Customer Service: Seated basically as we walked in and greeted with smiles from the staff !

Overall:
The restaurant is definitely one of my go-to ramen places in Sydney with a good atmosphere and quality food for quality price (:

I’m working in a Japanese restaurant and this is the worst Ramen I’ve never had, Chashu is not hand make, egg makes too old. And bad service! They made a mistake odder and ask me to pay for that one...
Emily West
Normally we have no issue with this place.
Food good, service mediocre.
But today, they insisted this gyoza is pork gyoza. Its clearly vegetarian, tastes super processed and just not cool. Doesn't even taste like pork, but they insisted that it has gyoza inside in a quite a rude manner by the head waitress. Insisting your customer is wrong doesn't exactly make us feel us tended to. If we had known its vegetarian, we wouldnt have ordered this. "Change in supplier'' is not my problem abd they should have let us know prior to orderiing.
Fat Boi
Fast service and great food. The ramen is excellent and so are the gyoza. Big menu so it would take ages to try everything. The highlight of the ramen was actually the noodles; great texture and flavour of their own.

I am unhappy with the experience I had in your restaurant.
1. The waitress move the chair next to me without letting me know and she is very RUDE. She hurt my legs when pulling out the chair AND did not apologise.

2. Two of us come together and then we met a friend. We DID NOT order in one bill. Actually when we order we mentioned to your waitress our order need to be separated. BUT when we paid the bill, your waitress still ask the three of us to pay together and advise us you cannot split bills.

Japanese restaurant supposed to provide good service and quality food, your waitress need to be well trained. I recon I deserve a formal apology from the restaurant.

Pretty good. I think the owner or chef maybe changed for the last 1-2 years? I feel they used to be a lot better. There are a lot of different dishes you can choose from which is good. Lunch special during the weekdays around $11+ per lunch box is a good value. But miso soup and rice are disappointing. Ramen is OK but not outstanding. Since Manmaruya is the only Japanese restaurant which runs by Japanese management in Ashifield, it's pretty popular especially at lunch time.
H2FOODIE
Very nice place for ramen. The variety of ramen and toppings and other dishes is incredible. The ramen itself is pretty good. Went in a weekday for lunch and the place was pretty packed
W J
Good food but I find that you don't really fail dramatically with Japanese food unless you order a donburi in a sushi train or something. Ramen a bit oily or is that the way it is preferred in Japan?
Tian Zhou
Quite delicious! This is the first time for me to go to this restaurant and the Fried pork is amazing with a bunch of fresh vegetable.Absolutely I will come back!

Came here after getting hopelessly confused choosing between the many Shanghai restaurants in the previous block. Place was cheerful & bustling with many families meeting for Sunday night dinner, service was quick & staff were friendly. Average quality food - had the special ramen & bento box - but good value for the price.
Bigeaterintown
Always enjoy my Sunday lunch here. I love its ramen and my partner loves its chicken curry.
The price is very reasonable and serving staffs are very friendly. Generally no need to wait for a table.
Foodlover
Price is ok. Busy place for a weekend lunch. We found the ramrn soup was ok but a bit watery. The sushi rolls are cold which was very suprising, but the ell on top was nice. Bento box was ok, the beef was too sweet for me. Miso soup is good.
Viv OY
We've been here a few times now and each time has been a good experience. Value is great and the sashimi always fresh. The lunch time specials are great value and tasty. I had the chicken karrage and there were so many pieces of chicken!
Jules
Sydney does some amazing, authentic Japanese but unfortunately I didn't have a great time at Manmaruya. I ordered the chicken nanban bento. The chicken was drenched in sauce but wasn't too bad. The takoyaki was cold in the middle. The salmon sashimi was a dull pink rather than a brilliant orangey-pink, and the texture was just weird. My husband liked his "salmon lovers" plate but the mini ramen was the worst ramen we've had in years as the broth was extremely watery.

Really disappointing but we've heard other branches are great so maybe we'll give them a go.
Lucianna Guo
The pork Katsu was wonderful! Also had the vegetarian ramen in soy soup... that was a bit tasteless. This is my 5th time visiting this place and will comeback again~

Service: Good and attentive
Food: THIS place has been our go-to for Japanese for some time, However, they must have recently changed kitchen staff. Serving are smaller - not an issue BUT QUALITY is down. The special Eel Avocado rolls wasn't cooked tasted right, taste like they microwaved it and put the sauce on top. Aburu sushi wich is another favourite of ours is tiny and not good value.

Ambience: its cosy but enough space, but not if you have a big pram
Lil' Me
When there for the first time for a very late night dinner, pretty much the last customers for a Sunday night. Friendly staff, but they took away the sources and napkins while we were still eating, i understand they were trying to close the shop.... Then we were asked to pay before we could finish the meal.
The terriyaki chicken udon was good, but the karage chicken benton box, came with a wrong set of food (octopus balls instead of gyoza) and the salmon was off....and the chicken was slightly uncooked 😓
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
Surprisingly busy for a Thursday lunchtime, Manmaruya is popular among people from all walks of life; diners included groups of work colleagues, mums and their bubs, businessmen, students and couples. This place is so busy, in fact, that from 3 August they are no longer accepting weekend dinner reservations, with guests seated on a first come, first serve basis.

The carpaccio of salmon and kingfish sashimi with daikon radish was served with a delicious, tangy, vinegary sauce. The spicy tan-tan ramen got the thumbs up also. When served with kae-dama (extra noodle refill), it really is enough to feed a sumo!

I will try and keep this review short as I do not really want to spend too much time recounting a mediocre experience.

First time visiting Ashfield and chose this restaurant purely from the reviews here. The shop is very 90's and reflects a typical suburban Japanese restaurant, not that there is anything wrong with that. The walls has many photos and specials but the entire restaurant looked tired and uncomfortably messy for a Japanese restaurant known for meticulous attention to cleaniness. There were several tables with dishes uncleared from the tables and floors and tables just looked dirty. To keep it brief here are the main points:

- I had to get the attention of the waitress to order
- The meal took longer than normal to come with even with 5 people working in the kitchen of this small restaurant!!
- One of the noodles was incorrect and had to be sent back
- The Sashimi and Beef Tataki - both entree's - were served after the noodles came
- First time ever I had to ask for a plate and sauce plate at a Japanese restaurant to to be able to eat the sashimi
- The sashimi was hacked rather than cut and came in all uneven sizes. There was no attempt to make it look even sized. The wasabi was not hot at all.
- The beef tataki was cut too large and was very chewy. The sauce was too sour.
- The pork soup base was good but not great and the presentation was terrible
- The Terriyaki chicken udon was the best dish with good quality udon use.
- The service from one of the three waitresses was very polite.

Probably one of the most underwhelming and sloppy Japanese restaurants I have ever been to with absolutely no excuse given the amount of people working this kitchen and a half full dining room. I have no idea how people think this is the best Japanese restaurant in the area. It must be the only one!
Gabriel
Another Korean run Japanese joint. Forget about authenticity. The food quality is not horrible. But it lacks the "Japanese touch". A refinement n complexity found even in low prices Japanese establishments.

But the service is the real kicker. Man this place is heavily under staffed. Like two waitresses for the entire joint. They are also probably too under paid to care about say:

- telling the kitchen to hold on prep when table is full.
- helping a customer arrange a full table instead of handing off a serving to a bewildered customer.
- taking away food empty food plates or refilling water.

And here is the best bit. Wait for it. ...... Kitchen hand/dishwasher brings out our food plate with raw fish. How do I know? I remember those damn gum boots n apron stained with grimmie decomposing food waste from the kitchen.

Lisa
Really good Japanese restaurant. Dine in or take out is really good. Great price for great portions. Sashimi tastes fresh and their ramen is flavourful!
Becesque
Come here for cheap lunchtime bentos! Super generous with their sashimi portions. Service is quite prompt and the food comes out relatively quickly.

This is a great local Japanese joint that is consistent with their meals and service. I live in Ashfield and find myself a here couple times here a week. They're quick, easy, great tasting and affordable. The Japanese Katsu curry is definitely a winner here. Also a big fan of their Unagi rice. You get free edamame if you order the Suntory draft beer

This is the place when my mood is on japanese food..especially for the Ramen , and lunch special. Quality and Quantity has a balance amount. Recomended !!!

I came here yesterday after craving some Japanese food. Just as I entered the restaurant I could smell this delicious aroma coming from the kitchen. I ordered the Pork Shoyu Ramen and it was so flavourful and delicious. The prices are all very suitable and service was very good. I'll be definitely be coming back!

First time eat at the restaurant. Both My father and I got Diarrhoea. We ate Sashimi, Number 95 on the menu and Eel with rice. 2 Dishes. Food seems OK at the time. But both of us got stomach ache and Diarrhoea during the night.
I thought the rice looked not freshly cooked, may be this is the cause, but my father did not eat a lot of rice, so not sure whether the stale rice is the cause. There was also one fly flying around our table when we were eating, whether the flies was doing the damage.
Hope the manager can check what food is not fresh on Friday 15-1-16 and throw them away instead of giving to the customers to eat and to suffer.
In spite of this, we will come back.
Simon Sun
The pork ramen was tasted horrible. The noodle was not cooked well and the soup was very oily. The other diskes we ordered were Ok. Salmon sushi were fresh and tasted good.

Not sure what to eat near Ashfield, we agree we should give this one a go. Greeted with the usual Mosi-mosi, we were surprised by the wet towel on top of the menu (literally).

Ordered Chicken Katsu Bento Box and Shio Butter Corn Ramen. The food came out quickly. The Ramen is very yummy so is the Bento. there's fried gyoza, sashimi, salad sea weed and picked ginger and let's not forget the Miso Soup.

Waited an hour before we post this as we want to see whether there is any sign of PMS ( post MSG Syndrome). Glad to inform there us none. We will definitely come back.

Bottomline : Great Food. Great service. Good Vslue.

This little Japanese gem is my latest go-to ramen joint. Not only are the pork based soups incredibly flavoursome (it leaves the chicken stock in its dust), but they have the option of mini-ramens which are $7.50 alone or $5 with the purchase of any main meals. Perfect if you're greedy like me and can't fathom the idea of having just one thing for dinner.

The portion size is ideal as an add on, being just enough to leave you wanting more, and the ratio of meat to noodles is possibly even better than the real deal. However, they do plenty more than just ramen here. The bento boxes are also very generous and sashimi has always been fresh. My holy trinity are the aburi sushi, chicken namban and of course the mini pork. Not a big fan of their winter 'hot pots' though.

Service is polite and food arrives quickly. There is often a line up outside, but lately with the opening of a new Japanese bar next door (more on that when Zomato get their acts together) business has slowed, which now leaves you no excuse not to go and try it!
Baker Bowie
This place is always full because they serve tasty and well priced food. If you don't want to chance it, make a booking to avoid waiting. I thought it would just be ramen but other diners were tucking into delicious looking bento boxes and hot pots giving me some serious food envy.

I had the pork soup shio ramen which was huge and tasty. The soup was creamy but it was advertised as lightly salty which I couldn't really taste. Still, that was probably the only thing amiss. The gyozas were plump and juicy and hubs enjoyed his ramen (with extra pork) too.

The staff were friendly and accommodating despite being super busy. Will definitely go again.
This great little Japanese restaurant has a lot to offer. Part of a small chain, it has quite a comprehensive menu with probably over a dozen choices of Ramen available, not to mention be to boxes, sushi and other Japanese dishes. There's nothing really exotic on offer, mostly the Japanese staple in Sydney these days. However there are a myriad of combinations and options on the menu.
The ramen was quite good although lacking some depth of flavour. Individual ingredients were good and serving size was generous, however the broth was surprisingly subtle in flavour and almost on the verge of being bland. Other side dishes such as gyoza were quite good which was pleasing.
Prices are fair and service attentive. I'll definitely be back to this local Japanese chain, but probably to try some other dishes instead of the ramen.
JADE
Such a nice place with great vibes. Great japanese food for reasonable prices. I ordered the chicken karaage udon and it was delicious!! Also the bento box was very nice and the salad tastes great. Would definitely come back again!
Roxanne Groebel
YOU HAVE TO GO! This place is always busy and with good reason. Cheap, portions are huge and the food is sooooo delish. We always get karaage chicken! Its so good. The miso is always on point, the rice is always fluffy and the sushi rolls are soo fat. Sake and lychee japanese lemonade drink is heavenly.
JCheung
Great service and a pleasing menu choice with a vast variety. Food wise there is room for improvement. I was hoping that the "spicy miso" ramen I ordered would be actually spicy, however it was a bit of a letdown as it was barely even mild. The broth was also not piping hot when it arrived and tasted a bit too gingery for my liking, not the best ramen I've had. Will come back to give the other menu options a try before ruling this place out.
Sipher Liang
been here quite a few times already, love Japanese food, and it's quite nice ramen and other side dishes here. and just tried the new slow cooked beef hot pot, just for $10 very reasonable price, though the beef could have been more tender, but still not a bad choice for a freezing winter out there.
Garry
The place looked good so we had high expectation.
Menu look great with a very generous range to chose from.

Not long after we sat down , we noticed a german cockroach crawling across my wallet and phone, i flicked it on the floor and killed it with my shoe.

During our meal, we noticed another german cockroach on our table making its way to our karaage, i quickly notified the waitress and she killed it with our napkin.
I advised the waitress that it wasn't the first cockroach and i pointed the ceiling where another cockroach was lurking towards the kitchen
Her response was "We just had a pest inspection on Tuesday" she apologised and then walked away

By now we had lost our appetite, so we got the bill left.
I don't think we will be going back anytime soon.
Zed_264
Good food but a bit slow service. Waitress seems to be unorganised and undertrained.
And the floor... Feel like earthquake when someone walks by...

Great Japanese restaurant in Inner West. We live in Ashfield and hadnt heard of the restaurant until we found it on the internet. It was the first time here and we loved it!
We ordered edamame, mixed carpaccio, bento box and spicy pork mince rame. All which have pleased our taste buds.
The staff was lovely and food came out at a reasonable time.
Definitely will recommend this place and considering going back there again tonight!

Manmaruya is my favourite go-to affordable Japanese restaurant, that has embedded its reputation in the inner-west and southern suburbs of Sydney. Consistently tasty bento lunch boxes and tasty ramen! Really warm and comfortable interior to the restaurant, great for families, individuals and couples! It wont leave you feeling crammed or rushed like other Asian restaurants! I always come here for the lunch time specials. They have Ramen and Lunch Bento Boxes starting at $10! This is so much cheaper than the regular Bento boxes (around $16-19) but it does lack the sashimi that comes with the premium… Service is friendly and relatively fast! Waited around 15 minutes for all dishes to arrive!
Stephanie Tang
...haven’t had Beef Tataki in a while and I had this sudden need for it , so yeah, that was ordered. The beef was a little thicker than normal and a little too chewy, but the acidity of the lemon I squeezed onto it helped it go down. Flavours were really refreshing and they tend to make everything so pretty!...
Weekendfoodescapes
Bento boxes are the perfect box of variety and deliciousness. Manmaruya is located on the main strip of Ashfield. Competing with a lot of popular dumpling houses, Manmaruya was jam packed on a weeknight when I had dinner with a friend. Tasty liquids of Asahi and miso soup. Which to drink first? The mini tuna roll at $4.50 was a quick entree to share. It was nothing amazing but nothing horrible either. The Bento Boxes were very easy to eat at $19. Salmon pieces, fried dumplings, seaweed, salad, sashimi pieces with a side of rice magically disappeared into my belly. The salmon was perfectly cooked and very flavoursome. Similarly, the chicken katsu bento box was quickly devoured at $16. I would definitely recommend eating at Manmaruya! A nice and reasonably priced restaurant. Prices: About $20 per person Location: 217 Liverpool st, Ashfield

We popped in, got our tables and perused the quite extensive menu. As our stomachs were literally digesting themselves at this stage, we quickly made our selections, being the crowd favourite pork bone ramen and the chicken katsu curry. Wow! I was pleasantly surprised in the flavour of the ramen soup! Not sure if it's because I haven't had a pork bone ramen soup in a while, but this soup was packed
Oh-ayana
Lucky for me Manmaruya's specialty is the Kogashi Ninniku ramen which literally means burnt garlic ramen. Manmaruya offers their ramen in two soup stocks; pork stock and chicken stock - I almost always order ramen with pork stock finding I prefer the thicker more flavoursome pork soup to the more subtle chicken soup. Now I love my ramen with a heap of bean sprouts and a perfectly soft boiled egg with orange gooey insides - and that's exactly what I got and more because I found hidden underneath my mountain of noodles an extra egg!!! My sister decided she also wanted to have some sushi so ordered the Mini Ramen with pork stock in which they forgot to add the seaweed pieces. After we told the waitress she missed the seaweed pieces, they gave us a double serving of seaweed too! You'll find that the portions served at Manmaruya are very generous, I'm always leaving with a food baby and even my sister's "mini" ramen is not so mini.

More Chinese restaurant service. Aburi sushi or sashimi are burned too much.

Floor staffs looked too busy.
They were just taking orders and didn't look after customers very well.

Especially staffs used Chinese language for communication, and I didn't feel comfortable.
Foods are pseudo Japanese foods.

Lower than average. Not sure why this place has such good reviews, the soft shell crab was over battered and really soft inside. Not appetising at all. The kingfish carpaccio was thick slabs of fish with a strange dressing. I didn't rate this place at all, although maybe I ordered the wrong thing. Either way I was extremely disappointed and will not be returning.

Tasty, reliable and great value. You are really spoilt for choice on Liverpool Rd, but there's a reason why people queue (happily and not for long) outside Manmaruya. The service is great, but really if you're an Ashfieldian, or from the surrounds, the service is always secondary to the food. Ah the food. I love that the servings come in 2 sizes, which means you can get smaller portions of lots more tasties (although they're not that small). Great gyoza. Great mains, fresh sushi, balls on agadashi tofu. The belief that all Japanese food is good for you allows you to feel guilt free while revelling in the unmitigated guilty joy of the karaage chicken. They kindly Anglo the menu to say it comes with 'tartar' sauce. This isn't tartar sauce, it's a mouthful of sigh inducing goodness. I introduced an 80 year old to beef tataki here and it added years to his life if only to use those to seek out beef tetaki in all places and at all times.
Good eating.
Lisa
Japanese Pearl. This is a little Japanese pearl amongst the many Chinese restaurants of Ashfield, Manmaruya offers that little something different, at extremely good prices and to a very high standard. The Tataki, the bento boxes, the teriyaki and even the chicken curry make my mouth water just thinking about them.
Rachel Morris
Love this place. I love ordering a bento box with a side of pork ramen, such a great idea. My only complaint is that sometimes it can all be a little to sweet.
Lorna
I enjoy food. This is first time..... i enjoy it..... food was great....on 25/4/2013... i would go back again
Bernd
Worth a visit. There are not many great Japanese restaurants in the inner west and this is up there at the top. Great bento boxes and a large a la carte menu to choose from. Service was fast and efficient. The restaurant was almost full on a Saturday lunch and staff were busy and managed well. Will definitely be going back again, and again...
Maxine
Great lunch. Popped into Manmaruya for lunch today in a hurry and hungry. Great fast service, excellent food, more than we could eat at reasonable prices too. Would definitely return and recommend it.
Amy
Best Japanese restaurant in inner west area. Lunch sets are fantastic and good value.
SpencerX
A little gem of a restaurant in inner west. We had a ramen (pork soup base), ox tongue bento, teriyaki salmon bento and some green tea. Salmon was just nice and teriyaki sauce was just yummy. Gyozas that came with bentos were one of the best I've ever had. Ramen soup base wasn't quite to my liking but was well prepared. Miso soup was thick style and I enjoyed it a lot.

All that for a very reasonable price point and good service to boot. Especially compared to our recent mediocre experience at Goemon in Mosman. No complaints from me :).

Highly recommended.
Serabella09
This is one of the best new restaurants to open in the inner west. Always brimming with people, it's authentic and affordable Japanese cuisine keeps oldies and newbies coming back for more and though service is fast, it's quality never diminishes. Service is friendly without being overbearing and the food always look so wonderfully presented. Ashfield's best kept secret. If you want Japanese, skip Sakura next door and give Manmaruya a go. Highly recommended!
Sydneyguyrojoe
My Japanese friend likes this place. Good, still good quality, thought the lunch bento box was ok but only 1 piece of sushi and a bit of salad but I had a decent amount of eel. Tako wasabi still nice and prices still reasonable, still worth going,it's no longer feels cramp in here

2012: A little cramp is my biggest complaint!!. Went with my japanese friend, and though I'm not a fan for Ramen, I did like what I ordered and so did my friend. Tako wasabi is still a great new taste sensation for me and the edamame was a reasonable size.

It is cramped though, nil issues with service and its reasonably valued. I will come back!

Got a coupon of 4 courses meal for two to try out this new eatery. The chef, might be owner as well is very generous for the portion, see my pics. Food is very fresh n well made, love the value! All these food we had tonight for only $25/pp! Will come back for sure.
