Been here a few times, and always got a really yummy dishes, no matter what we ordered. Friendly and attentive service, good price/ value, handmade dumplings always a winner too. All the flavours reminds me of my favorites chinesse reataurants growing up back home :)
A humble yet bustling hole in the wall style restaurant with a focus on quality when it comes to the food they serve.
Think cheap eats with memorable flavours.
Don't miss their Deep Fried Bean Curd nor the Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings) or anything "Salted Yolk".
Both the price and the flavours keep me coming back.
FYI: Chilli oil is in the back (i.e. on request) unlike its neighbours so remember to ask the wait staff for those that prefer a bit of heat.

Situated next door to the over populated New Shanghai Night, this place offers tasty dumplings which are freshly made by the lovely ladies often seen at the front window.
We always order the pan fried pork buns, 18piece fried or steamed pork and coriander dumplings as well as the Xiao long Bao which are full of rich flavours, can never get enough!
YUMMO! From really great prices to nicely sized portions, you can't go wrong with NSN! We ordered the veg dumplings, hot pot, shallot pancake, and some hand made noodles. 😋😋😋
The pancakes were average but I enjoyed everything else. And like I mentioned it was all very affordable. Will visit again!
Not to be confused with the black-clad New Shanghai next door..... New Shanghai Night (the one with the ladies making dumplings in the window) has been our go-to for a couple of years. This no-frills restaurant serves some pretty tasty Shanghai treats and noodles. Personal favourite is the Salt Pepper Chilli Bean Curd (the best!), while my 4yo son can't go without the Pan Fried Pork Bun. Steamed dumplings are also pretty good! Take away available.
What can I say! Amazing eatery. Value for money = incredible, dumplings are made by hand at the front of the eatery so you know they couldn't be any fresher and the menu is huge meaning there is something to suit everyone's taste. BYO beer to. Winning!

I would like to recommend this restaurant. Though it’s small, the dish tastes pretty good! I ordered the honey BBQ pork noodle. Most of the dishes in the menu are in reasonable price. It’s a good place to have dinner alone or with no more than 4 people as there is no big room for gathering. Cheap meals provided during lunch time.

What to say about New Shanghai Night. Well there’s about 3 restaurants along the main strip of Ashfield that contain the words “New”, “Shanghai” and “Night” but there’s only one with the grandma’s in the front window hand-rolling dumplings that you’re about to devour until you look like an overcooked dumpling ready to explode! Most people end up at New Shanghai Night because they’re sick of lining up at the hipster fancy dumpling place next door.
The Shao Long Bao (money bag looking dumplings we soup inside) were delicious but a little cold (4/5). The Combination Wonton Noodle Soup (4/5) was full of massive chunks of all meat combinations and even bigger wonton dumplings! The plate of Pork and Chives Dumplings (5/5) are amazing! They would get a 6/5 if you ordered them fried but my mate doesn’t like her dumplings fried :( The Pan-Fried Pork Buns must be what heaven tastes like, soft fluffy and filled with pork goodness! I was stuffing these down and even took a takeaway container full home – half got devoured in the car, the other half were demolished at 1am before we went to bed! The steamed vegetables (3/5) are vegetables – like salad… you can’t make friends with salad!
New Shanghai Night has very plain décor. The place looks run down inside, the tables and chairs are old and there’s benches along one wall. What they lack in décor, the make up in flavour, speed, price and taste! This is my secret, favourite dumpling spot in Sydney. I’m always coming back!
Really good dumpling option in Ashfield, and very good value for money. We always go for the pork and chive dumplings, and the eggplant in garlic sauce is a good veggie option.
Liverpool road has many Shanghai/dumpling restaurants to choose from but me and my friends always come here! We always find the food here so much better! We have tried the dumpling restaurant next door which is always busy and looks more appealing as the decor is a lot more modern but this restaurant doesn't need all those extra bells and whistles. Amazing value for money and always leave full.
Just the best place for Dumplings - very authentic - food is always fresh, fast and the tea is good. No silver service here just wholesome food and almost street market prices. Our favourite in Ashfield.

On this competitive strip of Shanghai / dumpling restaurants, this is perhaps one of the most authentic. Unlike the more known New Shanghai next door which has a more modern & chic interior, this simple restaurant offers less frills but more thrills with their food. A menu full of authentic Shanghai & Chinese dishes, the dumplings are freshly made which you can see from the window on the street. Traditional cold dishes go down a treat to whet the appetite including shredded radish cakes with that crispy, flakey pastry, slightly sweet Shanghai style smoked fish & pork belly with garlic dipping sauce. The boiled dumplings are generously filled & comes in small (12) or large (18) sizes. Xiao long bao is another must have, filled with a good amount of pork and soup, these little one bite wonders burst with flavour in your mouth. Wonton soup are delicious with large wontons in a warm, comforting broth. Stir fried rice noodles were fresh, piping hot with generous amounts of beef. Whatever you order would be delicious, hence why there are more Chinese people here as well as regular customers. Plus it offers fantastic value for money. You can also buy & take some freshly made dumplings home for another meal.
As usual, there was a queue outside New Shanghai so we decided to give New Shanghai Night a go. The lady in the window was deftly rolling, filling and pinching together trays of dumplings.
We had the steamed Shanghai style mini pork buns and pan fried pork dumplings. The Xiao Long Bao was plump and full of soup, and I thought the pan fried pork dumplings were particularly generously sized.
For $16.60, it was a quick tasty snack.
Well priced, fresh tasty food. Quick and attentive service. If you're waiting an age in line for New Shanghai next door, pop in here instead.

I came here for lunch it was very quiet inside, the food is very reasonable, very fresh dumpling , spring rolls are very nice the seafood and Corn soup is amazing big chunks of seafood! Amazing food can't wait to go back here...
This is definitely our go to place in Ashfield. This place epitomises cheap and cheerful. The staff are great. Very friendly. Dumplings are great. Our favourite is the fish. We bring everyone here.
Ashfield is a treasure trove of amazing places to dine; I recently took my family here and had an absolutely incredible experience. From the start of the evening you can see a woman hand making the dumplings in the window which makes the whole experience so much more authentic.
The service is flawless, always helping you, checking you have everything, making sure your tea pot is full.
And then the food INCREDIBLE! Personal favourites - beef and chive dumplings, honey chicken and crispy skin duck. So damn good.
Straight up, this place is my go to place when everywhere is busy and you cbb waiting in line Or when you take out your tinder date out to eat.
It's cheap but also tastes just as good as new Shanghai etc.

Came here due to New Shanghai being to busy and we were both happy with our choice. The meat filling in the dumplings was nice and gingery, vegetables were covered in garlic, will be back
My Usual Dumpling Spot..
I started going to New Shanghai Night a few years ago because Of the long queues at New Shanghai. So glad I did. The dumplings taste just as good, and the Shanghai handmade noodles are even better than next door! I hope this shop never changes, and there's never a queue cause I'd have to find another dumpling joint.
I wouldn't be bothered waiting next door.

A great diversified menu. Great prices, and the food is really really good. I often travel from Hurstville to enjoy the food here.
The pan fried buns are great, dumplings are terrific, the pippies are a "must try". In fact I can't fault any of the dishes I've had here.

If New Shanghai is busy,which is often,next door isn't a bad option. I've been here a few times because I can't wait,there dumplings are really nice,and there drunken chicken is almost as good as next door. Service a little slow and ambience is no way near as nice as next door,it's a bit too plain. But if the main reason is coming for food,here is a good option
Decided to give this one a go after experiencing a ridiculously long queue next door. Boy I am glad I did. Not only we got served immediately the food is also fantastic.
Tried their Pan fried dumplings, Sen Cai Bao, Shanghai spicy noodle soup. All of them are surprisingly yummier than it looks. Pleasant surprise is always good. Will definitely come back.
The time to serve the food is a little longer than normal but that is offset by the service and quality of the food which is definitely made with love.
This place is directly next door to the very busy new Shanghai, however on a busy night you have more of a chance getting in here. The price is really good for mains and the dumplings are really good. The inside of the restraurant is nothing flash and the service can be a little slow, but the food (the main reason you are there) is pretty good and well priced. Why not take chance next time you are craving dumplings near Ashfield...
As regulars we often bring large groups of friends and family and we our guests are always raving about the food, the quick service and the price. In my opinion these are the best dumplings in Sydney and there is no line, unlike New Shanghai a couple of doors down. I recommend the pippies, xiao long bao, fried chicken and mushroom dumplings, steamed fish and shallot dumplings and the crowd favourite chilli salt pepper tofu. Order a lot because it is so good as leftover! Ask for extra chilli sauce.
Twelve of us regulars attend every first Tuesday of the month and enjoy a pleasant experience. The food is good and the service with plenty of free tea is good.The assorted dumplings are delicious and other dishes are authentic Shanghainese.Fish pieces in sweet sauce and pancakes with mince in hoi since sauce are recommended.
We live 1 hour away, but chose to go there because of very positive reviews. The restaurant was a simple, no frills environment, but the authentic flavours exceeded our expectations. Finally a smokey fried rice! Every dish was of the highest quality, and the staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful. We would give more than 5 stars if we could. Will definately back. Maybe tomorrow. Lol
Good tasty food a bit different to the normal suburban Chinese restaurants which predominantly do Cantonese style food. They do really nice dumplings too.
My Chinese friends dine here on a regular basis so that is a good recommendation.
Value for money. The food is extremely tasty for the price. Generous portions and and friendly service. It’s family run with the auntie at the front wrapping dumplings.
They make the dumpling skins from scratch. The Xiaolongbao, salt and pepper tofu and pan fried pork buns are a must! The food is fresh and really tasty.
They give complimentary green tea.
The restaurant is small, so come before 6:30pm to get a table. They are opened for lunch too.
The service is quick and friendly.

The best pan fried dumplings I have had in Sydney! However I was very disappointed with the Peking pork with steam buns which was meant to be a signature dish. It didn’t taste anything special and the buns were not served hot or even warm.
First time here today as had a ticket for next door and thought this place looks great they are making dumplings in the window.
Going in it's a typical hole in the wall place which I adore. We sit at the back watching pikes of boiled dumpings shooting past.

The dumplings were devine plump juicy and delicious all fantastic but loved the coriander!!
Salt and pepper calamari delicious.
Satay lamb was OK but we were stupid to order it so my fault here.
Shallot Pancake not my bag but others love it.
Overall it's still a five stars from me I really loved I'm definitely going to try handmade Noodles next time.
No more lamb satay like I'm in western Chinese restaurant lolol.
