Review Stocksville - Ashwood

Excellent food, fritters were the best I have ever had--100000000000xifinite out of 5 if I could do. Vanilla milkshake could have more flavour. Super glad we went here. Food came very quick. Smashed avo great--15 out of 5 and kids hotcakes also great15 out of 5. Filled me up perfectly.

Cosy place for a coffee and a breakfast stop. Very friendly staff and super quick food prep. We sat in the courtyard out the back which was covered with sunlights, great for all weather. Reasonably priced and tasty menu items. Will be back again try to the other options

Came in Monday morning, prompt and friendly service, love the interior design especially we noticed the unique wall feature. Coffee was good, quite strong. Me and my partner got pasta alla norma and basil chicken linguine, they were really delicious and flavourful we enjoyed every bite! The only thing that could be improved is probably the mushrooms that I ordered extra on the side. Other than that we loved everything!

This place is amazing! Food is yummy, coffee is great and the staff are so friendly! They even recommended and me a special coffee order as they were quiet. It was so yummy!!! Highly recommend. Such a local gem.

Nice location, and some great menu options, but I almost feel like most cafes offer such similar menu items, it's hard to pick out something that stands out. I ordered some sort of egg and salmon dish, with toast, and to be honest it wasn't amazing and it wasn't terrible either. I feel like it was a little bland and it could have had more seasoning. The smoothies on the other hand were really reasonably priced, and great serving sizes. Although it wasn't completely blended up, so there were chunks at the bottom of the cup. Other than that, the experience was okay, nothing too special, but would return again...

Great coffee and a nice selection of pastries. Breakfast is really good and the quick brekkie rolls are worth a try. Staff very friendly and the place has a local community vibe with many hellos exchanged between staff and regulars.

Chef was SO KIND! The waitress forgot to ask whether I wanted to add chili into my linguine and I wasn't too fussed about it, but the Chef came out and asked (btw would recommend adding). He also came out three times after to make sure the food was okay, which is definitely was! I also saw him bringing meals out to others, and talking to others which is something you don't see often! So it was nice to see. We also purchased a Berry smoothy and 2 baked goods to go for family and friends which I also ate a bit of because it was all DELSIH!

Came in this morning with my two kids and the staff were incredibly accommodating and went out of their way to be helpful. They serve THE BEST coffee in Melbourne. Absolutely delightful!

Dropped by Stocksville on a Sunday after hearing lots of great reviews of this place from friends. Was very fortunate that there was 5 of us and we could taste a few dishes from the menu. Everything was delicious! I personally got the big benny and I cant recommended enough. This place has lots of vegetarian and vegan options do yourself a favour and get on down there. A hidden gem in the suburbs.

Love the food! Great service and atmosphere. It’s nice to be able to go to a cafe that has a unique menu you won’t find at other cafes and the presentation of the food. Definitely would recommend this to others! Thanks Stocksville for a good experience!

Great coffee and food...the acai bowl and fritters were amazing! And the sticky date pudding to top it off was just the best!

Outstanding. Quick, friendly and attentive service even though the cafe was busy on a Saturday morning! Food and coffee was exceptional, as is the excellent fit out. Had the fritters which were amazing, would recommend.

Amazingly delicious food. Friendly staff and a wonderful dining experience.

A great local cafe where the venue and ambience is warmly inviting, and the food is very impressive. Large windows let natural light flood through the open dining area and adjoining kitchen, with an outdoor seating area at the back that is perfect for coffee catch ups and soaking in the sun (if the weather permits!).

Service is friendly and accommodating, and the addition of hanging plants and modern decor make you feel comfortably at ease.

The menu changes seasonally, and includes Melbourne favourites in all of the breakfast, brunch and lunch departments. The Heirloom Bruschetta arrives healthy-looking, with plenty of avocado, heirloom tomatoes, spanish onions, corn, mint, chilli, lime, bocconcini cheese and balsamic glaze, with an added poached egg offered as an option. Deliciously filling and light.

The Naked burrito can be hard to present and plate up in an exciting way, but it sure tastes good. Black beans are accompanied by pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, corn, radish, jalapeno, sour cream, queso fresco, tortilla chips, avocado and green tomato chili sauce, with the option of adding slow cooked pulled pork or smoked salmon, each at an additional cost.

For something sweet, you cannot look past the Ricotta Hot Cakes. Damn.... probably the best hot cakes I have had in a very long time! Huge in size, with a crisp outside and super fluffy inside, you'll find bits of ricotta mingled throughout, and surrounded by berries, a maple butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream, with a sugar tuile. Absolute stellar, and well worth the calories.

Definitely a recommended cafe to visit, with generous serving sizes at reasonable prices that are standard amongst the Melbourne cafe scene these days. Flavours are on point, with seasoning well balanced and the use of seasonal ingredients well thought out in all of the dishes that we tried.

Second time here and food was as good as it was the previous time! The eggs benny and baked eggs were amazing. The previous time we came we tried the hot cakes and those were good as well!

The staff did not know who ordered what, the coffee order was all over the place the food orders were all over the place as well. The whole sharing table order was messed up and no body had any idea who’s order was which. Will not be coming here again.

They've filled the gap...

In this Cafe barren section of Waverley, Ashburton and Ashwood.

On the latte alone, 7/10 $3.90, albeit lukewarm it has all the right stuff, Five Senses coffee beans and Synesso are in the house.

I will come back for their food, looks great online. Stocksville in Ashwood is a welcoming café s that proudly serves FiveSenses coffee, alongside a delicious menu featuring Melbourne’s favourite brunch options.

The interior is bright and airy and has been distinctively designed by EwertLeaf, taking inspiration from Ashwood’s history and association with the old Stocksville Post Office which was open from 1955 - 1993 on Cleveland Rd.

We loved tasting our way through the menu.
The Fo0die
Fo0die dined as a guest of Stocksville and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service. Located within a small strip of shops, the angle parking out the front is only half an hour Monday to Saturday with no limit on a Sunday. We parked in the surrounding streets which had no parking limit except for a small section which was 1P.

Browsing for breakfast options near Chadstone, we accidentally landed to this quietly located off street cafe. At first from outside it seemed there isnt enough place to be seated but as we entered we were warmly greeted by the waitress who led us to our seats.

Although there are the typical breakfast options, this cafe has some superbly crafted brekkie varieties that will satisfy your palate.

We had the Dairyfield , The Benny, pasta, Small serve of bacon, chocolate milkshake and iced coffee.

The Dairyfield was a fantastic dish with base of crispy halloumi, well dine juicy mushroom, mayo, poached egg, asparagus on sourdough with avocado.

The Benny benedict was great served on hash brown with hollaindaise sauce, apple slaw and crumb chorizo- mouth watering.

Side dish bacon was tad average- not so crispy. The milkshake and iced coffee was wonderful.

Service was excellent. Chefs as well staff very courteous and energetic.

Revisit: Yes

There’s a new guy in town and they’re serving up brunch, lunch and coffees – so I’m basically trying to say a cafe! Located 8 minutes from Chaddy, Stocksville sits just off the main road tucked away. Not so tucked away that no one knows about it because it definitely gets busy. Stylish, friendly and welcoming, Stocksville sure knows how to make you feel comfy and wanting to stay.

🚨 Brunch Alert!🚨

Meal: Brunch

Ordered: Chilli Scrambled eggs and Bruschetta

Before heading on a day filled with shopping, we stumbled upon @stocksvillecafe in Ashwood and were treated to some great coffee and meals. The chilli scrambled eggs were quite yummy and the bruschetta was very refreshing! Only real let down was the food took ages to come out. Do check out this cute cafe if you are in the area! We will be back

Had ricotta pancakes and iced long black. The pancake was perfectly fluffy and beautifully presented. It went so well with light syrup and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Since that day, I have been thinking about the pancakes every single morning. Can’t wait to go again.
I was also satisfied with their coffee which made me order twice.
Friendly and quick. I will visit again with my family this weekend.

Awesome coffee and food with a friendly service. Eggs benny was awesome - pulled pork slightly on the sweet side but worked well with the chorizo crumbs. Well-balanced dish overall and eggs were absolutely and perfectly poached!

A welcome option in the area! So glad this side of Ashwood has its own little local. Though I like my coffee with a bit more punch, the menu is full of cafe classics that's cooked well and satisfies most brunch cravings.

We had breakfast here a few times. The service was good and polite. Their breakfast roll was nice for both presentation and taste. Will definitely come back. Their coffee is nice but still have room for improvement as sometimes the way they pour the milk was not professional at all, which end up messy up the taste of the coffee.

Really friendly staff, great food and coffee and comfortable! The owners also sponsor local sport and community organisations. Highly recommended.

Stocksville has clearly been developed by chefs and managers who are experienced in hospitality. I’ve been to Stocksville a handful of times now as a regular and have found it to be consistent in coffee, and prices are very reasonable given the size of the food. Coffee is always smooth and even on a busy day isn’t too long of a wait. I’ve tried a variety of meals on their menu and they all are made with presentation in mind. They’re huge servings and keep it relatively simple, which really emphasises the time and effort the chefs go to in order to satisfy. Handy hint: try the hash browns.. will never not order. Absolutely to die for!

On the pricier side for me, but you get what you pay for.
Fresh, good quantities, great staff. I really love the atmosphere and quality.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this cafe to anyone in the area

Stocksville was an amazing surprise on my Sunday morning. Coming from the area, I chose this place due to its easy location, but here I think I had one of the greatest meals I’ve had in a while - the mushrooms on toast. Oh my goodness! With a cauliflower purée, this meal blew my mind.
Other than that, the stocksville menu is massive and caters to so many food groups. My girlfriend had the fritters, wasn’t as blown away as me with my meal, but still enjoyed them.
The cafe also has a clean decor on the inside, and lovely staff. As this cafe is just around the corner from me, I’ll definitely be back again!

This place has people who know what they are doing with both food and coffee.

I really enjoy and recommend the home made pies. The coffee has a great flavour.

It’s a modern, fresh space with high ceilings that make the place feel quite large.

My experience with service has been good - they have been efficient and friendly.

PS I’m pleased to see there are comfortable seats at the front window bench (many cafes usually just have uncomfortable stools for these spots).

*Official Gooch rating without prejudice*

Things that tingled my Gooch:
- food is of a high quality. Brekky roll was perfectly balanced and was generous with the avocado and bacon usage.
- offered complimentary sparkling water
- nice indoor and outdoor design, pleasantly surprised
- specials board constantly changing
- food and drinks came out efficiently even with a full house
- friendly non wanky service
- no hipsters to be seen. There was an old guy on a fixie but I think he had Alzheimers, so it doesn’t count.
- did not see a man bun within 1km radius

Things that left me scratching my Gooch:
- no true leaf chai latte. Gooch was very surprised

Cheeky Gooch note:
- only two tables available out the front. Fur baby parents beware.

The final Gooch :
4.5/5.0

Dropped by here with my family and some friends for some brunch on a Sunday afternoon. The eggs on every dish were cooked to perfection, the staff is knowledgeable and very friendly, the ambiance just what you'd expect from a brunch hideout in Brunswick. I got the big benny which was very nice, my partner got cooked nicely inside and crispy on the outside. Very nice place. A hidden gem in the burbs

New little cafe in Ashwood really ticks all the boxes
Great coffee - Good Service - Delicious food. We had the hot cakes (amazing caramel sauce) and poached eggs (which were perfect)
Already decided that we will be back again next weekend

Stockville is a great suburban cafe in the tiny Ashwood area, paying homage to the old Stocksville Post Office, which closed down in 1993.

The cafe has a contemporary aesthetic, with a spacious seating arrangement and wide wooden benches. It's a really nice addition to a tired shopping strip, that appears to be slowly improving over time.

Now to the food! The long black was solid, it had a smooth finish and a beautiful crema. Easy drinking with no sugar needed. The Reuben was as legit as I've had in Australia. It had all the correct ingredients (with a beautiful homemade russian dressing), and the meat was well cooked and packed with flavour. The side of fries was fresh, hot and perfectly salty, but with the sandwich left me in a bit of a food coma. Worth it.

Is worth give them 3.5+, they put effort on provide customer quality of food ! The Benny is very nice ! Bake egg is quality too ! Unfortunately coffee bean is not good and soy latte is bad , if u looking for soy latte , this is not the place

Great coffee which we discovered by complete accident when wandering into this cafe on a cold and wet Sunday in mid-May. Coffee is superb even by the lofty standards of Melbourne. Correct strength, taste and temperature for my latte. Nice modern surroundings.
Good Food Good Mood
I was thrilled to be invited along to check out
Stocksville this morning with a couple of other foodie friends. The venue is absolutely stunning! Open a mere few weeks they combine a gorgeous fit out with exceptional food. Still or sparkling water is offered complimentary which is always a nice touch and the menu itself is extremely reasonably priced. I kicked off with the smoothie special which was peanut butter and banana aka the taste of my childhood- yum. I think it was only $6 too what an absolute bargain (the berry one we also had was even cheaper from memory, supreme value).
We decided to order the smashed avo as it’s a breakfast classic, the breakfast board for two in order to sample a bit of everything and then the hot cakes to finish (note the menu has been updated since the one listed on Zomato).
Out came the dishes onto the beautiful terrazzo top bench, the smashed avo had a bit of a twist with some little crispy fried capers, the hot cakes were a sight to behold. The perfect fluffy texture, not overbearingly sweet and very generously portioned too.
The board was simply a showstopper. It’s not just a collection of bits and pieces it’s literally small serves of several items on the menu which makes it perfect for the indecisive among us or those who have food fomo. My favourite from this was undoubtedly the French toast. It was some of the best I had ever eaten in my extensive eating journey! My fellow dinners loved the fritters which were also super tasty as well as the bircher. I thoroughly recommend this dish as an opportunity to sample a wide variety so you know what to order the next time you return. I’m heading straight for the French toast (and the chicken burger we couldn’t manage to squeeze in).

It was great to be invited to try the menu at the recently opened Stocksville cafe in leafy Ashwood. Literally 5 weeks old this cafe opened after a stylish fit out that included the creation of an outdoor courtyard at the back and a light filled interior space with a lovely stone flecked share table. The menu has already been tweaked slightly and today’s version had a few bold new additions to the “lunch” section of the all day menu.

We ordered smoothies straight off the bat berry being essential but also trying the peanut butter banana special. I’m pleased to report the peanut butter wasn’t shy in this smoothie and it was delicious.

To be honest I had trouble deciding on bunch items as Plenty looked appealing but didn’t really need to because there is a sizeable breakfast board on the menu for just such a moment of indecision. It’s designed for sharing between two and comes with a small serve of the pulled pork Benedict’s over potato rosti, corn & zucchini fritters, granola cereal, french toast, plus mushroom & chorizo. This dish was a standout and had all bases covered and good value considering it would be slightly less than the price of two breakfasts but you get to try so much.

Well not quite... we did want to try a few other things as well. The smashed avocado came with a poached egg and dehydrated capers which when sampled together with the lemon gave the dish a fresh salty citrus twist which I preferred over a regular smashed avocado.

We lastly sampled the hot cakes with berries, ricotta, ice cream and a decadent maple butter scotch syrup. This could easily be in my top three pancake/hot cake selection and this was because 1) those hot cakes were so light and puffy and b) that syrup was incredible.

We were well and truely full at this point and didn’t even touch the lunch side of the menu which included s new chicken burger and a Vietnamese noodle salad... as good reason to come back.

Thanks so much for having us.

Overall a really lovely cafe! The staff were friendly and we loved the decor so clean and fresh. The food was good just needed a few alterations to make it amazing. The avocado dish has such fresh and generous amounts of avocado making it a stand out. The only criticism would be the bread as it was too hard. The fritters had a lovely flavour just needed something more to create more moisture as they were a bit dry. The chai was lovely and could have had multiple cups. Would definitely recommend this cafe for good food and lovely service.

This cafe is in a quiet strip of shops near schools and child care centres. It's a bright, clean and spacious cafe with plenty of room for prams, which is a bonus for weary parents after a decent cup of coffee. I love that you can have all day breakfast AND lunch!

I ordered the double patty burger and chips while my friend ordered the soba noodles. No complaints from us.

There was a lack of desserts on display at the time of our visit which was a shame. Some funky desserts on display or on the menu would be great to accompany coffees.
........
Update 7/5/18: The Benny is a must try! It was bloody delicious.
Mon
Was a little disappointed to have waited over 15min for a takeaway coffee last Saturday when it wasn't that busy. I'll try again- but come on guys, all great cafes' prioritise take away coffees over people sitting in..... lovely fit out and especially happy to see sparkling water on tap.

Simply put, best coffee in the south east of Melbourne. Great food and friendly service.
Recommend the pulled pork Beny, smashed avo and the ricotta hotcakes if you’re in the mood for something sweet.
Keep up the great work guys!!

Heard about this new café opening in the streets of Ashwood and simply had to check it out on my way to Chadstone for a sneaky shopping trip...and boy was I impressed!! After having only been open for a week, this café was absolutely jamming by 11am! The interior of this place is exquisite - beautifully designed by Ewert Leaf, there's a really gorgeous back story about how the old Post Office was called Stocksville, and how the old owner planted all the surrounding gum trees - this is all catered for in the design, with one of the walls designed to replicate peeling tree bark, and the other wall painted brick from the original Post Office. The café is full of light - front windows open and facing out to the street, and it has a gorgeous little courtyard out the back with a wind protection wall which will be covered in foliage once the new plants grow.

As for the most important stuff...THE FOOD AND DRINKSSS!!! I started with the Berry Smoothie which was delicious and just what you want on a hot day. The coffee was great - ordered a latte, and appreciated the cute little Panda art on the top! I ordered the Smashed Avo with mushrooms and hashbrowns on the side. I was extremely happy with the generosity of the serve - 2 nice slices of toast with an abundance of avocado-feta goodness. I loved how there were nice big chunks of feta hidden in the avocado!! A great addition is the fried capers on top - they add some texture and saltiness, different to other smashed avo's I've ordered. Poached egg had a nice runny yolk which is always a plus! And the mushrooms were seasoned well and very flavoursome. Now those hashbrowns, were next level. SO crunchy and crispy!! And beautifully light fluffy potato inside. I will definitely be having those as a side with everything I ever order from the café in future!! All in all I'd say a very enjoyable experience, and I can't wait to try more items on the menu :-)
