Best coffee in town by far, the Rueben sandwich is incredibly delicious.
Located in Bairnsdale, Northern Ground is simply a gem. A café by day and restaurant by night, it exudes a calming presence, enveloping a cosy space where you can find delightfully welcoming and warm service.
The kitchen is in safe hands with chef/owner Rob Turner, at the helm. Originally from Yorkshire in the United Kingdom, Turner worked as a food development chef for Marks and Spencer and in country house hotels in the North of England. Northern Ground has only been opened for a few months but it already has a strong fan base and it’s easy to understand why.
One of East Gippsland’s dining highlights is Northern Ground, a gorgeous cafe by day and eatery by night that brings to the area a little touch of Melbourne. But the ‘Melbourne’ stops with the interior, with Chef Rob Turner’s menu largely utilizing and emphasizing the quality, local produce of East Gippsland and surrounds. As our first food adventure of our weekend getaway, the bar was set high and early on.
It was an utterly flawless and thoroughly enjoyable feast from start to finish.
Simple, flawless preparation paired with such fresh, local produce has undoubtedly created such exquisite flavours and a scrumptious meal that’s truly, hard to come by these days.
Ploughmans Lunch… it’s a must!
This wonderful cafe/restaurant was recommended to us.
The Ploughmans Platter showcased produce from this region.
Being a confirmed “coffee snob”, I was impressed that my coffee was brought to me just how I like it.
Thank you to the staff.
Very impressed.
We ordered a selection of daily specials to take on a picnic and the food was delicious, we loved it all. The service was fantastic with lovely helpful staff. We sat in the beautiful shady courtyard having a coffee while we decided on our lunch selections, the coffee was great! Will definitely be back.
Stopped in for brunch. Lovely courtyard, good coffee and friendly service. Quality produce, would have loved to sample it all. We had the ham and cheese toastie and haloumi toastie. The latter came heaped with broccolini, onion, greens, dill and mustard. The bread was a sourdough of exceptional quality. Overall a great place to stop or to linger.
First time eating here and I can easily say they make the best breakfast in bairnsdale. Friendly staff and a wonderful atmosphere.
What an excellent, modern and well designed establishment. The experience was top notch with friendly staff and great food. Every dish that left the kitchen look brilliant. Great work I can't wait to visit again soon! Cheers.
