Holy guacamole!
I'm so excited to have discovered this place!!
We ordered directly from the restaurant and they delivered in 20 mins for only $3 (do this over ubereats)
Food was de-li-cious! Just like being in Mexico - perfect escape from boring Melbourne lockdown!
We had the chicken wings, some tacos and the corn.
This is my new favourite restaurant. I'll be ordering from here every week!
Want authentic and tasty Mexican? Look no further than Si Senor Taqueria. Good Mexican restaurant south of the city. Gluten free and vegetarian options available.
🍽 Alitas (chicken wings) served with tangy chipotle salsa
Taco camaron (prawn)
Taco brisket
Taco Rajas (black bean and corn)
Taco hongo (mushroom)
All tacos were delicious. Very good homemade tortillas. All tacos had different flavours.
💁♀️ social distancing makes restaurant dining harder, however, the staff at this establishment adapted to the new guidelines and were excellent.
For authentic mexican down this side of town it's pretty good. Definitely get paloma margaritas and fish tacos.
Stumbled on this place randomly. Reasonably big place as the seating is in the back. Nicely decorated and good vibe. Food seasoning and taste was really nice. Will be back!
Great service everytime! The sweet potato fries are a must! Everything on the menu is a must try! Highly recommended!
Our family tried this wonderful Mecican Cafe for the first time and we really enjoyed it. The service was warm and accommodating and the food was delicious. Serves are reasonable for the price. We especially loved the prawn, the steak and the pollo tacos.
Have come several times for dinner over the past few weeks - once on Taco Tuesday which I thought was awesome value. 4 Tacos for $18! All tacos were great tasting - I got a variety of the meat fillings which I thought were all good. The pork/beef ones were better than the chicken which was a little blander in taste. The tacos have ample filling - they aren’t stingy on ingredients. I would however say that the tortillas are a little smaller than Ive had at other places but still worth trying for sure! I’ve not tried other menu items yet so cant speak for them however they looked great.
My only issue with Si Senor is a lack of communication between staff and customers when they want to close up - Ive left at about 9pm from the seating out area near the back to the front and chairs were over turned and kitchen cleaning up. I just felt unsettled and rushed as if we were holding them up. I’d prefer to be told politely that they were closing in 10 minutes time to get the hint to leave.
I also am not so much a fan of the open kitchen at the front - I think it’s quite an eye sore so sitting at the back is much preferred!
I wasn’t expecting it to be so good, but it was! Super fresh, authentic and tasty Mexican food. Great value happy hour, the classic margaritas were spot on, even the chilli sauce seemed to be made in house and it was yum. On top of this they were super accommodating of our doggo so it’s a yes from me 👌🏽
I love this place! I've been coming here since it first opened and think the food is awesome. Love the brisket burrito. Such great flavours. The camote fried are delish-you'll get addicted easily 👌 love the service and the vibe. I definitely recommend
Went here for lunch on a Sunday during happy hour, unintentionally - so finding this out was a bonus! Only fault was the ceviche tostadas lacked seasoning. $5 tacos were great! Burritos - amazing! Corn - delish! The courtyard has a lovely vibe - would love to see this in the evening. And some tunes would be good too.
Starting with the positives, Si Señor Taqeria has a great outdoor area. Although it's on ground floor, it feels like a rooftop restaurant. On the warm day I was there, it made for a cool setting. Service wise, the staff were on point and attentive. Food wise, it's ok. I ordered a chicken burrito that was quite ordinary: there wasn't a signature taste at all and my wife said the same for her quesadillas. The chicken felt pre cooked and lacked the freshness I feel Mexican food needs. Was a little disappointed as had high hopes walking in. Would definitely go back for drinks but the food wasn't great enough to make it my go to place....
Found this restaurant while I was on my way to St Kilda Town Hall. It’s so close to the train station. My friend and I ordered margaritas and they were both delicious and interesting in flavour. In my photo
You will see strawberry margarita and hibiscus margarita. The service was very friendly and quick. I also ordered a vegetarian taco, which didn’t look the most appealing when it arrived but the flavours were very nice.
Food was absolutely amazing! Food was served quickly and Staff provided excellent customer service with big smile❤️ you won’t get disappointed!
Their staff are always friendly and the tacos are consistently very delicious. Love coming here, the atmosphere of the restaurant is casual and inviting. Best tacos in Melbourne IMO.
Nice atmosphere, go for the happy hour and enjoy some tacos.. staff was very nice and food was tasty. You can squeeze your little dog in, if it's not too busy, which is great!
My girlfriend and I came here to get our Mexican fix. We ordered chicken, beef and fish tacos and they were great! Especially the fish tacos! We also order two margaritas for $20 (hibiscus and strawberry margaritas) and the hibiscus one was really good! Our server Kay was amazing and funny and gave great food suggestions! Will definitely come back!
Tacos, tacos, tacos. If you haven't made the trip out here well it's worth the visit.
Although the dining room in the back is quite small, there is an extra outdoor venue.
Tacos have a depth of flavour to them and if you prefer your tacos juicy, then grabbing the side of salsa is a must.
Having only tried the tacos here, I would definitely come back for them but do expect them to be packed during peak hours and plan ahead for a great night out
A hidden gem. Decently sized and tasty tacos for only 6$ each! Highly recommend the chicken and fish tacos. Service is friendly and attentive. The hot sauce is delicious!
Finally tried this place today after walking past it almost every day for 2 months and I must say I am glad I did.
It looks small from the outside but is rather big inside. With a bar at the front, two rooms upstairs, one downstairs and a really cool beer garden type outdoor eating area outback.
The interior actually feels very Mexican which is something I was really impressed with.
Now for the food I only tried the steak burrito and boy was it delicious. The flavours were great, i loved the hint of coriander in it. The steak was juicy and tender and the grilled onions really topped it off.
This is a place I would definitely recommend if you are a Mexican food lover!
The food is absolutely delicious!! Feels like a true Mexican experience, very different from eg Fonda. Especially the burritos and sweet potato fries. However very disappointed with the abrupt end to 2for$20 burrito night last night without any warning. It is basic courtesy to advertise the change properly and to let your regular customers know when ordering 2 burritos on a Wednesday (like every Wednesday in the last few months) vs leaving us shocked with the bill at the end. Very disappointing :(
(Yes, we did later discover the tiny scribble added to the 'weekly specials' on the A4 outside the door noting 'until 6pm'.)
+ Good food and price, especially tacos (4/5)
+ Weird vibe and decor. They would definitely benefit from investing in some nice music and proper furnishings / wall art. Great for a place to duck in and out for a bite to eat. Wouldn't be a destination (1/5)
+ Decent service. (3.5/5)
Went here in a group and sat upstairs. The vibe was a bit weird up there with no music and it was hard to get service and order because the wait staff weren't regularly coming up here. We had a long wait for food but when it did come it was delish. I shared a burrito and a large plate of nachos- yum.
Authentic style Mexican food, it's the stuff that all of my Mexican food loving dreams are made of...
I ate tacos of course, because tacos are life. And traditional corn tortillas were used, which is a must for me.
Please don't even talk to me about flour tortillas.
I tried three types -
Baja taco (tempura fish, cabbage, spicy mayo)
Pollo taco (grilled chicken thigh)
Al Pastor (slow cooked roast pork)
All of the meat was cooked perfectly, tender and tasty.
Salsas and hot sauces are available for seasoning and are a must.
As is the Guacamole as Guac is also life.
My friend tried the Tostadas, they looked awesome, a big serve, come with two on the plate packed with toppings.
Quick, easy, tasty and affordable - all of my Mexican passions are furfilled!!
I drop 0.5 off my review because the downstairs dining area was freezing and also had really bad lighting but that is all I can fault this place for.
I can't understand why this place is not rated 5 stars. It is without a doubt the best mexican food I have eaten in Melbourne and pretty close to Australia. Nothing fancy but good clean food at a fair price, friendly staff and a nice little bar. Absolutely Awesome
I had two tacos - the pastor and chorizo. I have had pastor in Mexico City, and the pastor tacos here are the closest it gets to the legit thing - which means they are delish. The only other place i have found pastor in Melbs, Aus is Hotel Jesus. The ones here are better.
Friends had the burritos and had no negative comments.
Ambience is fine, from what i remember it is an old terrace house so the acoustics are not great, but they've tried to jazz the area up, which is appreciated.
Would 100% return.
Only had 2 tacos, so the 4 rating is based on that + service/atmosphere.
Also, good selection of alcohol, and good range of Mexican beers.
This is a hidden gem in Balaclava! I've been a few times and always really enjoy it. Last night I had the fish and prawn tacos, the corn and the sweet potato fries. Everything has beautiful flavour, I'm a huge fan of the corn and the fries - the Chipotle mayo is a winner! Service is lovely too. Only downside was the prawn tacos were cold, luckily the fish one was yummy enough to make up for it.
The food here is splendid. Both the roasted pork and grilled prawn tacos were delicious. The grilled corn was juicy and covered with plenty of cheese. The beef quesadilla was very satisfying. We were also very impressed with our drinks. Staff service was friendly and attentive. The only thing to complain was our seats located next to the fireplace. It was freezing whenever the storeroom door was opened, and we smelt like gasoline after the dinner. Next time we will choose the seats upstairs.
Not amazing but not terrible. Had mixed tacos and a beef burrito, I just felt they lacked a touch of flavour. I also had to hot step it home as the food had an unsavoury affect on my bowels if u catch my drift 😕
Really, really yummy Mexican food. The sort of food I've wanted to discover at some of the trendier joints around town. Plus the margaritas are simply amazing. I'll await a 2nd trip to review it again and I expect my rating to rise
This is my favourite Mexican place in Stkilda it's never over crowded the service is very friendly and the food well it's awesome the guacamole del señor is amazing the corn chips are perfect and the Flavours are second to none have tried a few other things on the menu which are all very well sized and not too expensive can't wait to go back again very soon
We weren't sure about the size of the dishes so this made ordering tricky. The waitress was not particularly helpful either, which made this even harder.
Then the added annoyance of no service at all unless being served. The reason for this is that the set up of this place is odd at best, with stairs and rooms in different areas, the waiters have no idea you need their assistance because they can't see you. Very odd set up indeed.
If you want authentic Mexican food with very reasonable prices downed with cervezas or margaritas, this is the place. I highly recommend the fish tacos, I am salivating as I write this. Place has a great vibe, cosy atmosphere and attracts the hip inner city crowd. A great night out. Don't be put out by the bright neon sign. It feels more like someone's home once inside.
We came here for lunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon upon the recommendation of a friend. When we arrived it was a bit awkward because no one was home but we were soon greeted by a flamboyant, George Lopez look alike. He sat us at our table which was in a cool retro style setting. We loved the music which was mostly old school tracks.
We ordered pork, chorizo, beef and fish tacos. Of all the tacos, the fish was the best followed closely by beef. The chorizo we found to be overly salty. In addition we order grilled corn which were delish! We finished our lunch with nachos which were fantastic! Along with food we also ordered cocktails including a pina colada, a frozen pina colada and a bloody mary. The pina coladas were refreshing and tasty.
The restaurant was under staffed but the single waiter did very well on his own. We also enjoyed his flare and charisma, the bartender lady was also friendly and charismatic. Price of food an drinks were reasonable, drink prices were standard at $15 average. Overall, we will definitely return!
Couldn't stop raving abt its guacamole del senor (house style nachos with melted cheese) generous amount of melted cheese definitely brought this dish up another level. Its mushrooms burrito is one of the best in town. Moist and generously filled with mushrooms goodness. Unfortunately the grilled corn was not up to my liking as it's under grilled. A few mins more will definitely taste better.
As soon as we walked into this place we were greeted with smiles from all of the lovely staff. They have a great deal of space, little rooms that lead into each other like a house, and upstairs seating as well (which is where we had dinner). Nice and warm on a chilly night.
The food was really yummy and authentic (I had the vegetarian rajas and mushroom burrito, my partner the steak and chorizo burrito, and we shared the sweet potato fries and corn with chipotle butter). The rajas sauce was a highlight, spicy and flavoursome but not overpowering. Really well priced ($50 for dinner and a cocktail) and we were checked on throughout the meal which was lovely. Oh, and my margarita was awesome and strong!
Will definitely be back, can't fault it.
🌮Sick ass Mexican restaurant in Balaclava
🌯Delicious food
🌮Reasonable price
🍹Mexican alcoholic beverages available
🌯Upstairs area also available
🌮Nice cultural vibe & funky st American music
🌯Possibly in need of a second chef as he may need assistance when it gets busy
🌶Will be back one day- great for date nights
🍔Next to Ziggy's & a couple of shops down Las Chicas
With the influx of quality modern Mexican in Melbourne I feel like this place doesn't get the recognition it deserves. We came here on a Saturday night for a birthday celebration and indulged in the banquet, which was basically a bit of everything. Corn chips with guac, was amazing and so fresh, the tacos were really fresh and specifically enjoyed the fish one, they really didn't skimp on the ingredients for the tacos. The taquitos, were serviceable but the burritos were the stand out, super tasty. Last but not least were the tastiest, crispest and cleanest sweet potato chips I've ever had. I'd come back just for them. The only downside was the room we were in, being upstairs and also with another group of people the room was extremely noisy and warm. Not sure how they can fix the noise factor but it would make a huge difference.
We were after a quick and tasty meal on a Friday night and so went to try out Si Senor Taqueria (Eat Drink Love Taco) in Balaclava. The venue is quite unusual on the inside, there’s a bar at the front and an open kitchen area. When you move through the back and upstairs level of the restaurant it’s laid out like it was once a house, with a living room type area downstairs and bedrooms upstairs. The rooms are brightly painted which gives a very casual dining feel. We ate in the ground floor room by the fire (perfect on a wintery night) alongside a few couples and single diners.
Hands down the best Mexican in Melb. It's Mexican the way you expect it in Mexico.
Fresh ingredients with a punch of flavour. Freshly made tacos, burritos, even house made salas on the side. The staff here make it feel like a family taking you in and offering up home cooked dishes.
Don't go expecting fine dining and definetly don't go looking for an American style tex mex, this place is neither of those things.
If you want a genuine Mexican meal that is simple and packed with favour just go here.
And to top it off try some real Mexican beers (not corona) or mexicola to wash it down.
Had a late night dinner here and had such a good time. Wait staff are fun and efficient and the place is quirky. Tacos were so impressive, they did not go stingy on the meat at all and the flavor was spot on. We pretty much rolled out of there. Will definitely be back!
Been looking for a new Mexican place for a while now. This place is a bit tricky to find because the sign says Eat Love Taco instead of Si Señor but so glad we did eventually find it. The layout is cool, we were seated on the couch on the second story. The food was great. There is enough variety on the menu for everyone. The burrito needed some guacamole as it lacked a little bit. The pork in the taco was a bit dry, pulled pork would probably be a better option. Service was friendly and they do well considering how many different eating areas there are. Would definitely come back!
Had my burrito fix here! 😉😬 I tried the roast pork one which was nice & cheesy🌯 - need to come here for taco Tuesday! 🌮.. Oh and one of my fav Spanish songs mosa mosa.. was on 💘🎵
Good food, friendly staff and a range of room options upstairs that could be used for different purposes. The hibiscus cocktail and mushroom taco were super delicious
Wow! I can't believe I haven't been here before. Also to our suprise we rocked up on a Tuesday which every Tuesday is TACO TUESDAYS - 4 for 3 tacos and $5 coronas. The best! I've already told all my friends about taco Tuesday.
They cook right in front of you and the service is so fast. The decor was awesome, the skeleton in the toilet was my favourite.
The whole experience was delightful. Well done guys! Keep doing an amazing job!
Cool Mexican on Carlisle St near Chapel St. For those new to the area park off Alfred St and walk across. There's 2Hr Parking but be quick.
Got taken to this place by friends and really enjoyed the Tacos, so we came back!
Combo'd it with fish, beef and pork tacos which still are good. 🌮🌮🌮
We also got some sweet potato fries with aioli which was also yum.
Be early so you get served in first otherwise have some drinks and don't mind a little wait.
Simple good cheap food! 👍
Updating my review after going here regularly for 2 years. Prawn tacos are still the best tacos I’ve ever had, the nachos and sweet potato fries are to die for (I don’t even like sweet potato, but the sauce it’s served with is so well paired, I’m drooling just thinking about it.) my experience with service was average for the first year but the manager puts in a lovely effort and I look past language barriers via the waiters- there have been many mistakes with our orders but seriously the food is so freaking good that I will look past that and upgrade to a 5 star review. I’m moving away so I’m going to miss this place 😢
When in the area this satisfies my cravings for Mexican . Taco Tuesday is perfect 4 tacos for the price of 3. The baja fish tacos are absolutely delicious, crispy fish smothered in tasty sauces on a fresh corn tortilla. Always lovely service and dog friendly in the outdoor beer garden!
No-fuss authentic mexican food with some lovely and polite wait staff, but we had to wait 30 minutes for our order to be taken, which included being asked if we wanted drinks. Overall it took a good 45 minutes to finally get our food, which was really disappointing as we had hoped to have a quick meal. Keen to try them out again, as the food was great!
I really love this place! I always get some tacos. Taco Tuesday gets you 4 different tacos for $18!! They are full of flavour and fill you up. The sweet potato fries are great and we almost always get some to share. You can BYO wine or enjoy one of the cocktails. Great for a date or group of people. See you there soon.
Don't think there is a negative thing youbcan say about the place!!! Perfect food. Tasty tacos, burritos that melt in your mouth. Great selection of drink. Fantastic service. Will definitely be back!
Came here with a girl friend after work, the restaurant is set up in an old house, so seating wise, it was a little segregated, but the food was really tasty and the wait staff were super friendly.
A lot of the patrons and staff spoke Spanish, so it was a natural assumption that the food was authentic. Definitely worth a visit, I need to visit balaclava more often! Horchata is a must and great cocktails too
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!!! Staff, drinks, decor and FOOD!!! absolutely delicious and filling . Si Señor offers everything you need for a great experience out with friends, or just a quick day lunch. Highly recommended, I'll be back soon... Good job guys!
Another seriously good Mexican restaurant! Si Senor boasts super friendly and attentive staff plus menu which offers the perfect mix of budget friendly, delicious and tradition based Mexican food. The corn tortillas for the tacos are on point and the range of fillings mean there is something for everyone - and on Taco Tuesday you can get 4 for the price of 3! Cocktails here are also reasonably priced and tasty which completes the relaxed fiesta-style atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Modern and colorful flavors of Mexico to match the tranquil and cheerful colors of the decor. In the heart of Carlisle St Balaclava you'll find this taqueria with its turquoise Aqua colors standing out along the strip. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Definitely a relaxed atmosphere. Seating spaces ranged from shop front bar to dining room seating area. Love the dia de los muertos wall art and the small details like the colorful straws, the small flowers on the tables and the furniture. Had a quick lunch here on a week day afternoon seated at the bar. The menu caters for a wide variety of meat and none meat dishes. The soft shell tacos are tiny but generously filled (the fish and pork filling were fresh & perfectly cooked!), the crispy sweet potato chips are a great side. The steak burrito was more of a main size wise and rich in flavors with beans inside the wrap. The quality of produce used here is of fresh and high quality creating the perfect flavors of Mexico. You can add a bit of oomph to the dishes with their home made chilly sauce (not for the faint hearted!). The drinks menu will not disappoint and quench the strongest thirst! All in all, a satisfying experience of familiar colorful Mexican flavors depicted in a modern, simple, fresh and tasty way. Viva Mexico! Viva Si Senor!
This is my fave Mexican restaurant in Melbourne. Good honest simple food. Had dinner there tonight and service was great, food came out super fast and the meal was delicious as always. Our faves are corn chips with guac and salsa, sweet potato fries, chicken salad, baja or brisket burrito. It's all great though!!
As a Mexican lover I rate this place a 9.5 out of 10!! The guac is amazing and all the tacos I tried were super fresh and simply Mexican. The venue itself has a quirky street style feel too. Loved it !
Delicious food! The portion sizes were at times quite small - for example, the corn chips! Our nacho dish was also served cold. The service was pretty good (we were served by a lovely waiter!) and the layout quaint. Would return, especially for Taco Tuesday :)
Fresh food! Spicy! All we love ! Amazing taste! Excellent service! One of the best Mexican restaurant we've been on St Kilda . I definitely recommend this Mexican restaurant .
I love this place so much
We love the tacos and burritos and hotchata
Friendly staff. Lovely place for meeting friends on weekdays , quick and easy and comfortable and casual .
Liveeatdrinklovefood
+3.5
Taco Taco! Chicken and Rajas burrito to share with an added Camote fries (sweet potato) with a chipotle aioli. Those were some of the best fries ever! Baja Taco - Tempura battered whitefish with cabbage and chipotle aioli. Cameron Taco - Adobera Prawn with green cabbage salsa bandera and chipotle. I ordered one of their cocktails which were $12 each and although it tasted delicious there just wasn't enough of it. Very small cocktail size, would get a beer or wine next time instead. We were sat down very quickly, and in a cute little side room upstairs, the staff were friendly and our order came out pretty quickly for 7pm on a Saturday night. Regular Taco local for me..
Beautiful food and service! Highly recommended restaurant to Mexican food lovers.
The tacos are really nice but the sides are a bit overpriced. Like $7 for a handful
Of sweet potato fries.. Overall it's awesome. I go there every two weeks. Love it
Good tortas. Great for a lunch time snack. The taco's can be hit and miss, sometimes great sometimes no so but the great times outweigh the not so. Their torta's are what I go for, haven't had a bad one yet.
My partner and Iove this restaurant!!!! Friendly staff, value for money, delicious authentic, fresh non great Mexican food!! The sweet potato fries are to die for. Good work! We will be back x
You pays your money, you take your chances... Great food, crap interior, inexpensive, friendly staff, consistent, bad tables in winter but great courtyard in summer.
When you are feeling lazy, this is perfect.
Take away is a great option.
So delicious! Such good and authentic tasting mexican, really stands out against all the other mexican places in melbourne. The sweet potato fries are such a good side and my favourite is the beef quesadilla!
A really cool, cruisy place to eat. Nice affordable food that's good quality and comes out quickly after ordering. Staff are friendly and has a good atmosphere. Out the back quart yard is a winner on a warm evening. Just a decent place to eat
Favourite mexican!. This is my favouirte Mexican restaurant. The food is to die for, its affordable, the staff are amazing, and the atmosphere is spot on. Keep up the amazing work!
Yum!. Delish. Get there for the corn and the tacos. Loved it, will come again!
Wes. This place is amazing!! Latino food is my favourite and Si Señor Taqueria does the best latino food in Melbourne. Our waiter Jonathan was extremely friendly and very happy to help with the menu and give us the best dining experience possible. He was also happy to share stories about his home country, Venezuela which really topped the experience off. The out door setting is very cool/trendy and inside (down and up stairs) fun and alive. So happy to have found this place.
