There was no better way to spend the afternoon than a lazy long lunch with Mick Nunn from Salt Kitchen Charcuterie and John Harris of Mitchell Harris Wines. Mitchell Harris Wines’ Barrel Room was turned into a classroom for the day, where guests watched demonstrations on how you can work with pigs to prepare dishes using every part of the animal. Each dish which highlighted a certain cured pork was also paired perfectly with a delicious wine by John.
Great wines and food, we had the Mitchell Harris Cab Sav and the cheese board. Super nice and warm, great to get out of the cold. Only thing that was a let down was the coffee.
Beautiful venue with fantastic food and wine to match. Best vegetarian dumplings I’ve ever had. Great selection of wines and beers. Not cheap but worth it!
Favourite wine bar! Inside is a cozy wine bar, perfect place to have a glass of wine and some cheese. There is a nice local wine selection with delicious food 😋 the cheese platter is so good
For starters the crew here are knowledgeable, friendly and attentive - 3 ticks.
Food is amazing, menu evolves regularly.
Tried many wines - been to one Taste of Italy WOW - seriously WOW
But... the unexpected big tick for me is this place knows how to make a mixed drink - a rarity!
Absolutely delicious food. We had the Polenta chips and the Pork Belly. The service was very friendly and efficient. Will definitely be back.
A very charming bar and friendly service. Had the Rubens and sliders for lunch, and food was absolutely delish! Will def be back when visiting Ballarat again
We love this place and come here most Friday nights. Service is great; staff are friendly and most have made an effort to learn our names and faces. Food is always excellent. Wines are well considered. The venue has loads of character and warmth. This is Ballarat's best bar. Great spot to start your night out, after-work-drinks, and date night.
Love the wine they do ! Had great time there and always fun to go there
Tried few food on their menu, but its good one
Recommended !
Staff is good and friendly :)
This restaurant / tapas bar seemed promising, even though they don't have a full menu, and it was one of the few restaurants open during Australia Day. The drinks menu included a wide selection of cocktails which were as good as any Melbourne bar. The restaurant also had an exclusive bottle shop which offered a wide selection of Australian and international wines. The food selection was hit and miss as some were delicious and others did not live up to their premium price tag. Overall, we would recommend this place for drinks on a night out but do not go in with much expectation on their tapas.
Great wine selection, it's so pleasing to see so many local western Victoria wines on the list. The staff are friendly and the food and desserts are top notch, great Sunday afternoon venue. Myself and my fiancée have been here 3 times now each just as good as the last. I would recommend the produce board and pork sliders as well as the eaton mess dessert special that they had on last week. My only slight disappointment would be the cocktails that your bartender has produced on two separate occasions. My Martini although well diluted had far to much vermouth considering I asked for it dry, my old fashioned again made well, when I asked what bourbon you had available as it was not on the menu I was only offered and told that you stocked rye, when leaving I noticed you had Woodford reserve. But in fairness you are a wine bar and I do believe other than that this is by far the best bar in Ballarat.
What a great find. Nice location, very friendly service and good food.
We had the pork belly sliders, dumplings, beef ribs, rabbit rillette.
All was great. The wine selection is wife and the pricing is more than fair. We will come back. Why not 5 stars? You can take your kids and the staff is friendly, however the seating is quit high and not appropriate seating for the little ones available.
If I were a local this would be my local. Good wine. Craft beer. Tapas. Friendly staff. Not cheap but you do actually get what you pay for. Could expand the tapas menu slightly but there were specials so all good. Happy as.
Lamb Burgers Ballarat Style. Amazing - fresh and tasty ♥️♥️
Great wine, great service. Passing through Ballarat and saw the reviews for this place so stopped in for a night of wine and tapa's. It didn't disappoint. The service was excellent, attentive but not pushy, extremely knowledgable and happy to advise and inform on the wines. We also had some tapa's - chorizo / manchego, dumplings and dessert platter. The only thing I could fault was the dumplings, these were very average, possibly from frozen, and whilst granted we are spoilt in Melbourne for fresh made dumplings, this dish was not aligned to the calibre of the wines, ambiance or other dishes. But not enough to dampen the night. Will definitely come back to this place next time we are in Ballarat.
I agree with the "are we in Ballarat" comment - MH is excellent - great wine list - great tasting plate/tapas style food - attentive FRIENDLY and professional staff - all of them - pity about "troll" comments that appear on these sites
Unique in Ballarat. I will call myself a regular at this establishment, from the time it opened. It is a breath of fresh air in Ballarat with the rustic decor and chic, modern fittings integrating particularly well. The wines from MH are worthy and the list has a changing and interesting mix of other wines of different varieties from different countries. John Harris knows his stuff and is personable to boot. The bonus is the range of tasty and quality bar food available - much of it from regional producers - which complements the wines well. It's amazing what can be managed without a full kitchen. Overall, this place does what it does really well, with the bonus of an upstairs function space and regular special events. Long may MH prosper, because I like being there!
Fabulous find. Brilliant service, laid back but attentive. Could not fault this little wine bar. - wish we had a Mitchell Harris in Canterbury. Will be back
Great New Wine Bar for Ballarat. Wow. Love the rustic and funky interior. Great selection of wines and lovely tapas style food, knowledgeable and friendly staff. After moving to Ballarat from inner-Melbourne & missing good wine bars, this place ticks all the boxes. Will bring my visitors here!
Love the place, great tapas, wines and service, I couldn't believe this is in Ballarat.
I went here with my parents tonight and we had a really lovely time. We all tried a variety of wines, which I really enjoyed. We also ate heaps (we didn't eat dinner before we went) and the food was great. The highlight for me was the produce board - I would highly recommend it. The roast vegie chips were also a simple thing that we enjoyed. The place was really cool - decked out in a really great way, and a very cool vibe. As other reviewers have said, are we really still in Ballarat? Great night, would definitely like to return (especially if the parents are paying!)
Friendly & attentive service (despite a jam packed Friday when we returned on the Saturday arvo my wife & I were greeted like old friends by the staff); A true tapas experience - great food and wine without the ridiculously small portions / high prices. Top wine & beer, fab food and brilliant vibe: A+
Are we really in Ballarat still? Great space, friendly staff, yummy simple tapas-style food and interesting wine and beer. Hallelujah.
What a fabulous place!!! Nearly walked by as you can't see from outside how amazing this place is. It was freezing & as soon as we walked in it was so warm, fire place, attentive staff & amazing wine. Taylor was fantastic with his wine knowledge & people skills, so much so that we came back for dinner the next night. Food was delicious, potato pizza & polenta chips 👌 also thanks to Meg & Chloe. ❤ We will be back next time we visit Ballarat. Jackie & Mark
Wonderful total experience today, excellent food and attentive service. Many thanks for helping making this a memorable Mother's day.
Stylish, cosy venue that is perfect for everything from a casual drink to a special occasion dinner. Great cosy, laid back atmosphere, really friendly, dedicated service, delicious food that isn't over complicated. A great selection of wine of course and I love that they play records there.
Dined on Sunday 5th June for pig and pinot. Beautiful meal, excellent wines. Staff were outstanding in customer service. We had a great time and would highly recommend.
Wondering around Ballarat following a self guided ‘ghost tour’ (ghost images of old heritage signage on walls) we stumble upon this really really cool venue. As soon as you walk in you known your are in somewhere special, this place rocks. Great wines and a good menu (although we only had deserts so can’t comment on the meals). Such a cool vibe and one to revisit for sure 💯% 💥.
Good to find perfectly balanced espresso in Ballarat. Excellent service. Checking vaccine certificates. Only ordered coffee, which was perfectly balanced, though the double was a little larger than normal. We just made it before the lunch rush, but even then, seating was still available inside and out.
Great atmosphere, tasty food, the wine is delightful and the staff are lovely
