Review Table 48 - Ballarat

Savannah Dotson
Absolutely amazing food, highly recommend the salt and pepper calamari and the tortellini romana. Both meals were delicious and for how good they were well worth the price. The creme brulee was divine, the best I've had in years. We will definitely be eating here again, couldn't recommend highly enough.

Absolutely amazing service. My daughter and I were visiting from out of town and didn’t know we had to make a booking. Gus (Manager) was incredibly accommodating and fitted us in. The girls were phenomenal in making a special ‘mock tail’ for my daughter. Thank you so, so much. Will definitely be coming back.

Had to send back a very poorly cooked Medium Rare Steak (it was blue) and then received an over cooked well done steak. The Prawn entree was really good but I couldn’t recommend this place at these prices. The service was great and so I feel bad saying this, but if you have 4 steaks on the menu, you’ve got to nail it or perhaps get people that can actually cook a $40 steak. The lovely owner discounted my meal at the end and understood the predicament. Thanks for that. Did I mention that the prawns were delicious?

A Ballarat must go restaurant. Food was delicious. Atmosphere was good . Well done table 48

Food was good and service excellent. A full sit down restaurant with good variety on the menu including vegan and GF choices. Still had a bit of a pub feel to it. Can't explain it - might have been other guests, maybe music in the background would help, but a pub feel.

Owner is incredible, table service is amazing, food is Bussin. I recommend the Eton mess, and the French martini never had anything better in my life. So cute and cozy 💅🏼

Been there heaps and never had even close to a bad meal. I love their whole menu. I wish I could go there for dinner every night

Had dinner with a group of friends and kids. Food was overall good - feels very personal and homemade. Only complaint was food was slow to arrive. Gus the chef/ owner came out personally to check if our food was ok. Overall service was friendly and warm. Love the ambience too.

Table 48 seems to be a great place if having a gathering of people due to the layout and multiple areas in which to dine. The meals were quite expensive for what you got and the staff although were nice were not helpful in taking orders and kids meals where last meals to come out, by which most adults had already finished eating. I would not be back here in a rush at all.

Friendly staff and our family with young children felt very welcome. The promptly served food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their pasta mains and dessert. The seafood marinara was jam-packed full of seafood...amazing! The house made chicken nuggets were also a hit with our 4 year old. Overall, a great dining experience, with the open fire being a bonus!

Really disappointed with our experience. We ordered our food and the entree came out within 5 minutes.. Another 70 minutes went by and our mains were nowhere to be seen. Not one staff member apologized or let us know how much longer our meals would be. It wasn't even busy and we ordered simple meals that should not of taken anywhere near that long. It was such a let down, especially with it being Valentine's Day. We will not be returning.

Lovely staff at Table 48. Nobody even blinked an eye when I ordered my vegetable pizza with no cheese, and ensured the dough was vegan. Pizza was packed with flavour and delicious. Would definitely order it again. Not too pricey either.

This is THE place to go to impress friends, family or work colleagues but equally enjoyable for a relaxed evening with your special person...Gus is the consummate host, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly and clearly enjoy what they do. The wine list has great depth while not being too extensive that you can't choose the perfect wine...and if you have trouble doing so Gus has the knowledge to advise the perfect drop. The food is TO DIE FOR, every item lovingly prepared and it shows in the presentation and more importantly the taste. This is our go-to restaurant and has to be one of the top ranked in the state. As Molly would say..'Do yourself a favour....'

Mothers Day meal. Very disappointing, overpriced food for badly prepared food. The chicken kiev was clearly out of a packet and served with mushy rice abd a splattering or chips, barely worth a $10 pub meal let alone the $23 we were charged! The parma was no better. The spaghetti and pizzas looked half decent but overall dissapointing.
Darylmbaker
Disappointing non-Italian mains. Chicken Kiev was really poor. Out of a frozen packet with a few scattered chips. Maybe an $8 pub meal but not at a place trying to be a premium restaurant. Parma looked average also. Pizzas and pasta both looked much better. Staff were attentive. This place needs to learn to only serve what they can do well. No short cuts. Not at that price.

Hands down the best restaurant I have ever been to. We are really fussy eaters, but the foot was perfect in everyday!
The oysters Kirkpatrick were the best we have ever had, our steak was cooked perfectly (medium). The chips were so crunchy!
we will travel from Melbourne to eat here again!
The owner is a wonderful man, he was so attentive, and genuinely cares if his customers have a good experience! Highly recommend.

Owner needs to learn how to treat his staff. I went to table 48 for a friends birthday recently and all i can tell you is that the owner needs a good hard look at himself! He was so rude to his staff it made me feel uncomfortable. The staff were doing a great job under the pump (I think they were under staffed) and only to be put down by the boss, constantly criticising them. I was looking forward to an enjoyable night out with my friends but instead I just felt awkward and bad for the staff. Does not look like a good working environment. Will not be returning there anytime soon!

Delicious!!!. Absolutely loved Table 48! The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Had the porterhouse steak with pepper sauce. Was cooked to perfection and was giant! definitely worth the price!
Had the citrus creme brulee for desert which was also very good, although we had filled up on steak, so we only ate about a spoonful each. Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant

So delicious!. Went to this venue on a random night out with friends. Never been or heard of before but omg I definitely recommend!!!! The meals and service were great! we all ordered different meals and each were fantastic. I ordered the spaghetti marinara and to date it is the best marinara I have ever eaten! The waiters were very pleasant and we completely enjoyed our experience.
Thank you :)

Let down... Went to Table 48 for a meal. Wasn't expecting to be served by someone on work experience but she dealt with us in a very polite manner. However, the manager was very short with her, quite rude and didn't seem to hold back. He seemed to be giving her a hard time even though she was doing a fantastic job with us and he seemed to be pre-occupied with everything else but her training. The meal and prices were lovely, but won't be back due to seeing the manner in which he appears to mistreat his employees.

The most over-rated place ever!. Table 48 is so over rated and over priced its not funny. I can cook just as good pasta at home, so why would I want to pay their prices for it?

Overpriced and deep fried. Service was great but food was average for the huge prices. The kids menu had meals for $7.5 but we were charged $12.90 for each. My daughters chicken schnitzel was deep fried and in the shape of a heart which suggests processed chicken. The garlic bread for $7 was no better than what you could get from the supermarket. My scaloppini was over cooked and my wife's penne had grit in it. It was a shame because the restaurant present very well and the staff were great. Looks like they need new staff in the kitchen.

Family impressed.... Parents were visiting from overseas. My mother loved the cauliflower soup and my father said he had the best meal he had so far in Ballarat (they had been here a month by that time.)
Kara K
Terrible experience . Waited over an hour for meals to arrive. Food is average at best and overpriced. Vegetables were over cooked and served with a bland sauce (the same one used for two different dishes). Pasta found in my (non pasta) spatchcock. Will avoid in future.

Great food, service and atmosphere! Also very reasonable priced. Would definitely go back!

Delicious Cake. Best Mars Bar Cake going around!

The Best Porterhouse in Ballarat. Having now visited Table 48 on 4 occasions I continue to treat myself by having one of the best Porterhouse steaks in country Victoria, my latest visit was only yesterday. I've also tried his pasta seafood - yum, yum! I also can't help but observe how Gus (the Manager/Owner) makes a real effort to personally visit each table of guests to ensure they are happy & if something is requested he doesn't just pass it to a waitress to fix, he does it himself eg personalised service. I will definately be venturing from Melbourne (where I live) again in the not too distant future for another feast at Table 48.

Phill Jury (Food Critic & Writer)

Table 48 was absolutely fantastic. The meals were excellent. Also the service was great. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic service. Delicious meals, eventhough portion sizes are a little small. Definitely recommend.
Sue
Too expensive. Could not believe the prices, serving size getting smaller and prices go up, also owners must be making a fortune selling wines - glass and bottled - far too dear!!
LizzieB
Staff are great and attentive but meals are way too expensive. Disappointed with the garlic bread. I could get better from the supermarket.
Daniel L
Very good. Enjoyed the meal. A tiny bit pricy.

Tiny portions. I've been to Table 48 numerous times before and had delicious, hearty meals. On this occasion, I brought a large group of friends and was bitterly disappointed. The portion was tiny - I had the chicken parma which was meant to come with chips and salad. Instead, i got a tiny piece of chicken breast on a small handful of chips. Everyone at my table was astounded! It looked quite pathetic. And it cost $27! My other friends also were similarly disappointed (for the price we had to pay) and some of us had to eat again afterwards because we were still hungry. However, the service is very good and staff are very friendly. Needless to say, however, i won't be returning any time soon!

Brilliant service, food was Devine. On entering, the owner (I think) greeted us. At all points the staff were helpful and friendly. Upon leaving the owner wished is a wonderful evening, asked how we had enjoyed our meal, and commented that he hopes that we will return (and did do with a friendly demeanor). We will definitely be returning soon :)

I do like this place, the food is great and is cooked well but small portions for the price of the meals means that I don't go back as often as I would like. The magician is fun too ;-)
Deb
This restaraunt is great. the food is always good and its in a great location.

Went to Table 48 on a Friday night at 7 PM. Garlic bread was nice, 2 soft drinks, and Kiev and tortellini pretty good! 65 dollar bill means it probably wouldn't be a weekly outing but staff made it pleasant and i'd go again for sure

Great Venue, Beautiful Food. Table 48 is amazing, very deceiving from the outside. Absolutely loved the look inside. Fairly large place but it felt really cosy inside. The food is delicious....we had the steak and it was cooked to perfection.
The staff were excellent, they didnt hover but they were still very attentive and extremely frendly.
Even had a visit from the owner of the venue.
Was the first time I had been there but definitely wont be the last!

Great meal and venue. We enjoyed a lovely meal at Table48 tonight. Great old fashioned service, we weren't just a number, we were treated like people! The food was great, and yes it's a bit pricey but our food tonight was certainly worth it and we'll be going back. If you're happy with pizza and pasta rather than steak, the meal will be cheaper for you.

Good service, good food, friendly, reasonably priced. Very enjoyable busy place, caters for everyone and has a good kids menu. Would definitely go again.
Meg Rayner
Overpriced!! Nice enough food but not worth walking away without dessert but dinner was so exxy $$$

Luckily the food was nice.. Walking into Table 48 we were greeted by 3 waitresses standing at reservations book. we were sat at a table almost directly opposite door (if was about 3 degrees outside, and extremely windy). there were 3 other tables filled other than our own, so why they had to sit us near the chilly door was beyond me. everytime someone walked in we were froze to death. i'm never one to question the amount of staff that are on during the night, but at one stage i counted 10 waiting staff waundering around trying to find something to do. we were also seated about 2 feet from reservations book so i got to hear the interesting conversations about what the young waiting staff were doing on the weekend. the food was delicious, only two complaints would be my partners vegetables were disgusting, just plain steamed vegetables, and a small glass bottle of coke was $4. but due to where we were seated we will not be returning.

Certainly worth a visit. Pasta was delicious. Some of the best ive had. Wouldn't recommend steak however based on the price you pay for it.
