Review The Munster Arms Hotel - Ballarat

I feel like I'm back in Ireland. Just the accents aren't the same ;-) It's a great place for a couple of pints after work, or over the weekend just. Good Sunday sessions once a month with live music. Friday night raffles too. . .

Great food. Went to a trivia night and enjoyed it. Had roast duck with veges and mash. The jue was perfect with the duck. Hubby and I plan to go back for a meal again soon.

Very comfortable with old world charm. Fantastic food served by helpful efficient & friendly staff. There is a couple of steps to negotiate so beware if you have a walker or struggle on steps.

Dedicated vegan dishes, I was impressed. Beers on tap were a global selection. Wine chooses were perfect. There was a live jazz band and that made the venue kinda special. All the dishes we had were quite impressive.

Great for dinner or a couple of quiet beers. Food was fantastic and well cooked. Steak came out medium rare which is what I asked for. Service is on the ball and consistent. Well done not only to the chef's but also the bar and table staff. Will diffently be back when im back up visiting.

This place not only has my pick for best small tap beer list in Ballarat, but also the absolute best dish available anywhere in Ballarat: the oxtail spring rolls are just out of this galaxy! Great fire, best publican, top times.

Such a refreshing experience! Wonderfully friendly staff, vegan accomodating meals, a variety of craft beer on tap too! A pub style vegan meal with a dark pint is all I've waiting for in this town and it's finally happened! Well done and thank you!

I have eaten here numerous times and the adventurous menu has never disappointed! The cosy atmosphere and great beer and wines are well priced and suit the food beautifully. Well worth a visit...

Omg seriously amazing food. Being vegan I am always a little apprehensive about going to a pub for dinner as the vegan selections tend to be somewhat boring with very few dishes to choose from. Not so with the Munster Arms Hotel. I had a hard time trying to choose from the menu as there were a number of vegan dishes to choose from that all sounded amazing. Once I had finally placed my order I was not disappointed at all, my entree consisted of 3 small carrot pancakes with a spicy home made relish and for mains I chose the cauliflower wings and OMG I was in foodie heaven. So filling that unfortunately I couldn't fit in dessert, oh well next time, because I will definitely be going back.

So, as the joke goes, two vegetarians and a meat lover walk into a bar.........anyway, this placed worked so well for us. The meat eater had a burger, and they said it was one of the best ones they'd had. There was only one or two options on the menu for the veg heads, but the staff said they were happy to make changes to any meal (and charged us less, which is very unusual …. you know what I mean……add chicken and it's an extra $5, take chicken away and it's usually the same price).
The gnocchi is made on site, using real potatoes (hand peeled on site) and was just perfect. Unless there is a reason you don't like gnocchi it is well worth a try.We all ordered the same sweet, apple and rhubarb crumble, and it was divine.
Unusually, this place had table service, you could even order drinks from the table…..nice. They have apple cider on tap, excellent choice, and it wasn't sickly sweet, like some ciders can be.
Before we went we read the reviews, and they weren't overly wonderful. But, apparently these are new owners, so any reviews you read from before October 2018 are from the last owners.
For us, this place ticked all the boxes, great food, nice competent staff (you know, the ones who recommend good stuff….that is actually good). Other nice things included no drama about splitting the bill, and it all came up on a computer and we could just all pick which meals/drinks we had).

Great selection of drinks & meals for all dietary requirements, lovely atmosphere. The decor is very warm and inviting, especially if you sit near the fireplace.

Lovely atmosphere. Great chips. Tasty food of other sorts. Good beer on tap. Children are welcome but it's a proper old fashioned pub. They sometimes have good live music playing. Only gripe is not open later than 4pm on Sunday!
