Review Jasmine Thai - Ballarat

Linh Nguyen
Food was amazing. Service was great. We'll be back.!
Martin Sherwood
The dishes we had were quite good but to be honest I feel sorry for the locals who have to pay this much for decent Thai food. Every main dish here is overpriced. $21 for Pad Thai noodles is extreme.

Fantastic friendly service, generous serving sizes and amazing food. Thank you Jasmine Thai💯

Great food and service when we dined in. Good value for the quality of the food.
Debbie Mooney
Amazing food. So authentic. Great selection of dishes. My favourite Thai in Ballarat.

Good food.... Friendly people.. Definitely coming back

Beautiful food and lovely staff. Such a good night

Tasty food - very fresh and tasty; the spicy sweet chilli and coriander sauce with the pork skewers was to die for. Place was quite busy despite not being open for dine-in (30-Oct-21). We also got a huge bag of prawn crackers with peanut sauce as a complimentary gift

Ballarat seems to charge slightly more than Melbourne in restaurants. We started with the crumbed coconut prawns which were nice and served with sour cream and sweet chili sauce. Mains was the green chicken curry and coconut rice. It was nice but not overly creamy. The banana fritter for dessert was a decent sized serving.

Small place hidden away. Friendly staff quick service. Just remember this is BYO alcohol. Great food reasonably priced. A Ballarat gem
Will return.
Canuck In Oz
Mrs Canuck and I stopped in after a chilly evening at Sovereign Hill to see the Christmas lights in July. We had the banquet #6 @ $28 per person. The quantity and quality were good as was the service. One of the dishes was a bit too salty for my taste. But I would definitely come back again.

Second day of our road trip, after a few pies and sausage rolls, we all felt like having something different. Browse around Ballarat and happily found a little Thai place hidden on the Sturt street in the CBD of Ballarat called Jasmine Thai. We have been quite lucky with the weather these few days in chilling Ballarat, apart from a few drops of rain and crazy wind during the night, it was all sunny during the day. However, in such a cold night, something with a kick can spice up our stomach a bit.

Had a nice meal out here again with friends. Their satay chicken skewers are the best I've ever had! Got a mixed entree with these and also grilled pork skewers with a Thai sweet chilli sauce, which were also really flavoursome! Service was pretty good too. I love the traditional Thai decorations around the place. Just needs some Thai music and it would be perfect! Thanks for another great meal Jasmine Thai!
Order
Dont go here, is my advice.
One of the worst meals we have had.
The service - people nice enough, but they screwed up our order in multiple ways, throughout the meal. They told us that certain things in the menu could be made for us, given foods we dont eat, then AFTER our friends were brought their meals, we were told that they couldnt do those dishes for us, and we would have to choose other dishes.
They reheated the rice in the microwave.
Just about everything that was ordered came out wrong - my sister ordered Chicken and they gave her prawns. The drinks we ordered, had to order again, and then they didnt get it. Etc.
The food - SO ordinary. Really, an uninspired meal.
So, I dont recommend them.

Loads of lovely food. Banquet 1 with Tom Gha Kai was revelation. Excellent service. Banana fritters yummy enough to squeeze in even though we were stuffed!

It was our first time here. We had a lovely experience! Not realising it was BYO before we arrived we were told by the waiter where to get a bottle of wine close by and with a discount too 👍🏼. The food was delicious, the Pad Thai was one of the best we've had in Ballarat. A nice cosy atmosphere, not too noisey even when it was full. Definitely recommend Jasmine Thai, lovely staff, clean and affordable! 😊
Love Food
After all the reviews, anyone would have high expectation. I have to say I am not satisfied to the level of food presented to my taste. The portion is very generous and service wasn't bad. It took sometime for a simple order to be brought out (cut chili).
Ordered pad Thai, way too sweet. Fish curry, sweet as well. Beef stir fry with oyster sauce, assuming it's a savoury dish due to the oyster sauce, but no. It's like eating dessert.
I wonder if I will end up with diabetes.
Won't consider this place next time.

My third time here, Yes its worth coming back. I have had both a la carte and set menus. Good honest food . Décor is interesting. The tables a bit to close together. They don't serve alcohol, which is inconvenient.

Excellent service ...went with my family and very friendly staff
Excellent food
One place to go to in Daylesford
Bit expensive but worth it...
Will go back again

Great meal at Jasmine Thai. Entrees were delicious, main meals had great flavor - really good Thai food. Thanks for good service too. I noticed a comment comparing to catfish, however I found catfish expensive with few choices and no vegetables. I would recommend Jasmine Thai anytime!
Heidiklink
Great Thai food. We really enjoyed the food and received fabulous service. Black pepper fish was outstanding, as was the satay and entrees. We are from overseas and eaten many places - very impressed with jasmine Thai.

Not authentic. Ordered several dishes, used to be amazing was met by a dismissive greeter, "web ordering" didn't work he blamed our internet! Dishes were not the class of years ago. Heat gave way to what should be fragrant flavours. If you're considering eating in go to catfish. If your ordering takeaway save your hard earned.
Jef
Mixed feelings about this place. The service could do with improving we did not have serviettes like everybody else and none of the waiting staff noticed this. I received my food a good five minutes before my sisters meal came out. Meals should arrive at the same time. My vegetarian pad Thai was very nice and was a generous serving. My sister had phase Penang tofu with rice, the rice was late in coming to the table. The prices were a bit more expensive compared to Melbourne thai restaurants.
Rachel
Disappointed. This USED to be a fantastic Thai Restaurant. If dinner on Saturday night was anything to go by then those wanting authentic Thai food are best to steer clear. Those wanted Thai food that has been westernised to the enth degree would probably love it. Their spring rolls were disappointing and being served sweet chilli sauce with them instead of a lovely Thai dipping sauce was disappointing. The next entree was also did not have Thai flavour and was also served with sweet chilli sauce. The advertised Crispy Duck was not crispy & their inpretation of 'chilli' you guessed it is sweet chilli sauce.

How they served things also wasn't Thai. My brother's vegetarian dishes were not cut finely, and just piled high on a plate. Actually, all the food was poorly plated.

This used to be such a good Thai Restaurant. Those wanting really westernised Thai food would find it pleasant enough, but those seeking authentic Thai food may wish to consider elsewhere.

Fantastic!. My family and I came here for a Sunday evening dinner before heading back to Melbourne and the food is fantastic. Spring Rolls are a must and of you like a bit of spice, #22 is divine. Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere - definately will be back when in the area!

GREAT. I go there regularly and always enjoy the good service, and great Thai food
Geoff.agm
Recommended, but I edible. No flavour, bland nothing like any Thai food I have ever been served. Threw away!!
Kylie Bickerdike
Great service and beautiful food. Fresh ingredients, fresh herbs. Well priced.
Kevin
Beautiful as always. I judge a Thai restaurant on their pad Thai. Theirs is perfect. Service is friendly and relaxed. Authentic, fresh and tasty food. Great selection too.
Bengill_007
Yummy gluten-free options!. The gluten free food is quite nice and there is a lot to choose from but it was a little overpriced.

I think the good at jasmine Thai was not cooked by Thai it was more Chinese people it wasn't nice at all. And the lady who served us was rude she was really rude she said her name was Kym I think not to sure but never coming back to jasmine Thai when we visit Ballarat
Christine
Very expensive. Meal was not worth the price we paid for the dish, I counted the prawns parts of my "pork and prawns noodle" there were 2 halves exactly, I found a bit of a rip off and beside it was not very "thai" tasty, more like a cheap dish from a food hall.
NeneInT
Very expensive, poor to average food and service.
J And J
Delicious. Great flavours, friendly service and some left over to bring home for lunch the next day.

Usually this place is great. However we got to the restaurant and had to wait 10 mins to get our menus. We ordered 3 meals and had to wait 20-30 mins for the 3rd when we had finished the first 2 and were already full. not offered a discount for the delayed service. I was a little disappointed to say the least. Food was nice, service not so good.

Yum Yum YUM!!!. I haven't been to Jasmine Thai for years but i recently went there with my mum. We were starving and looking for a great feed. The staff are so polite and attentive. The meals were amazing, beautifully balanced flavours and just the right amount. The price is amazing also, we got 2 mains and a coconut ice, as well as mineral water and it cost less than $60 for the both of us. I would recommend this place to anyone. It was also beautiful and warm on such a cold Ballarat night. Definitely a must when visiting Ballarat.

Minimum Two. I love that you can get a banquet for two! This doesn't happen enough! Needless to say we left very satisfied - hard to pick a favourite. The menu is too extensive to have to pick yourself; so it was good to have the decisions made for us.
Customer service was great, even when we were the last people left (they didn't rush us). The owner came and had a chat and was very approachable.
We're now making our way down the banquet listing.

Mixed reviews had me nervous and surprisingly the two dishes we ordered were delicious. Flavours were delicious and spot on. Honestly tried to fault it but couldn't. Price wise it is quite expensive, especially by melbourne's standards, but will certainly be back if I happen to pass thru ballarat

Seems to have gone backwards recently. Needs a revamp
Michelle
Poor. Have been going to Jasmin Thai for years, however on a recent visit was shocked at how bad the food was. Tom Yum was not even recognisable as Tom Yum, salty brown soup that overpowered every other ingredient in the dish, over cooked rubbery chicken. Spring rolls were nice until one of us nearly broke a tooth on a 3cm piece of plastic in one. When informing the waitress of this she calmly told us " Oh yes, thats just a piece off one of our graters".." We wont charge you for those" ( thanks for that!) The yellow was so sweet and sugary it was inedible - previously our favourite dish. Very disappointed and embarrassed as we had brought our Thai friend and had boasted about how good it was. Will not be going back.

Worst in Ballarat. Service was cruddy, food was not worth i. the wait ii. the taste (was it really Thai!)
and certainly not the price.

The Daylesford restaurant is said to be of much higher quality.

From disappointed

Overrated. I will never understand the popularity of this place - though I put it down to Thai food being delicious and the average ballaration having lead a sheltered existence. The food is ok. It is also wildly overpriced, slow and clearly consisting of frozen vegetables. Wait times are insane, especially for take away and badly managed. I can list a dozen Thai places in Melbourne where a group can eat til they fall over for $20 each - but here its more like $50. The flavours are good, but not outstanding, sauces and dishes are lacking balance.
Lori
Fantastic Restaurant!!. Definitley my favourite place to eat in Ballarat!

The food is amazing, so fresh and tasty! The staff are super friendly and the service is great!

Love the Red Curry with coconut rice, spring rolls and satay skewers! Tried a banquet last night and it was delicious! I have never had a bad meal here.

I have been to Thailand and I am happy to say that the food here is just as good, if not better!

Always happy to go back again and again!
Rosebeanbean
Great flavours. I had the pad thai take away for $18. It comes with an option of chicken or pork. I have tried both and they are great! Great service, lovely food and atmosphere.
A little pricey but very much worth the price.

Goes a long way on a Thai-t budget. Great food
Excellent staff
Cheap meals
Lovely atmosphere
Prompt service

Overall, an excellent experience!

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic meal here on 24.2.2012
The food was beautiful, the service was great and the restaurant is clean.
The manager is very friendly and spoke to all the customers.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I had my favourite dish Pahd Thai and my boyfriend had Beef Pahd Gatiam. Thai...the new Chinese. Are we that daft in Australia that circa 1990 SinoOz food minus the corn, starch plus some Thai spices, passes as authentic Thai cuisine? Jasmines of Ballarat is all that....with a secret ingredient....CAPSICUM......green AND red! I confused my Friday night meal with a tight-ass tuesday special.....perhaps I expected a little more than four shreds of chicken and a hell-uva lot more mushroom & bamboo shoots in my Gang Par. What really upset me is that I had to stop drinking my beer to be under .05 so I could drive down to the local Indian take-away to get a meat dish to go with my 'Capsicum Two Ways'!
SP
AMAZING!. Possibly the best tofu peanut satay I have ever eaten.
It was pretty loud in there though- we'd gone up to Ballarat for an anniversary so we'd hoped for a bit more "romance", but the food was so good that it didn't matter. Next time I'm in the 'Rat I will eat there for sure. Delicious.
Lynne
Perfect food ALWAYS!!! Luv my Red curry chicken and the satay!!!!!! Mmmmmmm!!!!
Justin
Best in Ballarat. Always the freshest food and ingredients. I have never been dissapointed with the food or the service. The staff are only to happy to cater for gluten free or fructose friendly recipee's. A very popular little restaurant.

My Go-To in Ballarat. Without a doubt my favourite eatery in Ballarat.

Super helpful staff which are knowledgeable, friendly and efficient.

BYO and extremely competitively priced meals make for a cheap night and best of all the food is consistently as good as any Thai I've had outside of Thailand.

I'd Happily recommend to anyone.
Niki Ahnu
To die for!. Didn't expect such great food! Busy little place but still cosy. I had the spicy fish cakes and crispy duck from the specials' board - best duck evaa! Next time I'm in Ballarat, I'll be back.
Robert
Wonderful food. The duck green curry is the best in the world!!! True. But lots of wonderful delicious traditional Thai dishes. An expansive menu with great specials each day. Oh yum!!!
Coffeebean
Great thai restaurant. Had a mixed entree, fishkace was outstanding. 2nd course the tom yum soup with prawns, thick rich and full of flavor! Go there I highly recommend it. They are closed on Monday's so don't make the same mistake I made; don't go to thai fusion across the road. Not worth it!
Danielle Breust
Always a good meal, never disappoints
MrsGee
Awesome food! First time and will def not be the last!
Chris Hall
Just great. Don't be put off by the dated decor, the food was very good, I always judge Thai by green curry, jasmine Thai was a delight!
Will be returning.
Lal Lal Bois
Great flavours. Smaller portions. Quirky surrounds.
Iceman
Being an avid Thai food lover I always relish the opportunity to try the local Thai restaurant. Sorry to report nothing to see here.

BEST SATAY I'VE EVER HAD!. This place NEVER ceases to please my family and I. We have never had anything less than excellent service and mouthwatering food. The number 21 combination satay is by far the BEST satay I've ever eaten and I don't think it will ever be beaten.
Good job, Jasmine Thai!
Toni
Brilliant food, brilliant service. As a former Ballarat-dweller who now calls Melbourne home, I still love coming back to Jasmine Thai when I'm visiting family in Ballarat. Whether for take-away, an impromptu romantic dinner for 2, or a pre-booked birthday feast for 18, we are always treated to an amazing range of the best-quality Thai food with rapid & friendly service, all at a very reasonable price. The staff make every effort to get to know their regular customers and to recommend dishes based on your likes and fancies.
For lovers of seafood who don't mind a bit of spice, you can't go past #22 Pahd Ta-Lay Jan Ron. And every entree on the menu is a win!
Lovetoeatballarat
Sensationa,l easily the best thai In town, service friendly and also the place nice and clean, nice vibe and ambient atmosphere..
Gillian
Absolutely Fabulous. Those two words sum up our experience. It was a very night and the food and the service was awesome.
Fiona Sanna
Very pricey for Thai but it's the only place in ballarat! Delicious but service a bit slow.
David Tilson
Always a pleasurable experience. My wife and I have been regular customers at Ballarat's Jasmine Thai for the last 8 years. We started as frequent diners but since our two munchkins arrived on the scene we tend to use the takeaway service more regularly.

Geoff and the team are always friendly and attentive, ensuring a good night is had by all. The food is consistently good and at the top end of the scale when comparing dining experiences in Ballarat.

Given that so many diners return on a regular basis to Ballarat's Jasmine Thai speaks volumes about the quality of the food, the atmosphere and the staff.
Sara King
Tastiest take-out in Ballarat. High quality, fresh & delicious. Not to mention fantastic friendly service.
JanWilliams
The Best Thai Restaurant.. My husband and I have been going to Jasmine Thai Restaurant for the past 18 years. Actually we were the first couple to walk in the doors when Melicka and Laurie first opened the Restaurant.
We have always experienced the friendly atmosphere from the staff. Melicka (who has since passed away) was just wonderful, and now her son-inlaw Geoff are just as good.
The menu is terrific, our favourite meal is the Gangarree Chicken (Yellow Curry), we always order that with lots of other yummy dishes........
The one thing I just love about all the dishes is we like hot food, Jasmine Thai's Menu is hot but the big important thing for us is it is not only hot but it has FLAVOUR, which is so important.
In all those years, not once, since we have been going there have we come away saying "Well that meal wasn't up to standard tonight". The meals we have had in the past 18 years have always been up to standard.
We have eaten in other Thai Restaurants in Victoria and Overseas, and haven't had one that is on a par with Jasmine Thai.
My husband and I would recommend this Restaurant to all.
Thank-you Geoff & Lauriefor your wonderful friendship and service over the years
Please stay open for another 18 or so years.........
Jan & Peter Williams.

Just had a red curry and it was amazing!

How good is the Tom yum soup here! Quite ravishing. Well done jasmin Thai. Food and service great.
Sunia
The best Thai in Vic so far in terms of food, money and not forgetting service. The choice of vegetarian is the most extensive, Jeff and Mrs are the best hosts, thanks Sunia
Nicholas Quinlan
Best Thai ever. No frills decor, fast friendly service, byo, but its all about the food. Still better than any Thai restaurant I have been to in Melbourne.
Nikki M
The tofu was grilled on the outside, soft inside and had soaked up the flavour of the dish. The noodles were perfectly cooked, large onion slivers were sautéed until soft, and the chicken was exceptionally tender.
