Review The Main Bar - Ballarat

Local friendly calm venue where the owners took a real interest in looking after us. Pizzas were great and well priced. Nice live music on special occasions. I will go back.

Really impressed with the quality and service at Main Bar. Ordered the Salt Kitchen Ham and olive pizza, which was delicious. The wine list is excellent with a good representation of local wines at unbeatable prices. All staff were upbeat and very attentive. Well done to all involved and will definitely return for more of the same.

Must I admit I've developed some kind of ill-informed perception that this place does not good so it's no good for me! HOW WRONG WAS I! A wonderful atmosphere and superb service and great value food that excites the palate! Highly recommended little establishment.

They should have closed rather than accept our booking for 8 & then not have some items on the menu available to us. There is only pizza, so not too difficult to have all the ingredients necessary. No atmosphere, not even recorded music. And the guy working the night couldn't be less interested in making his only customers of the night feel like they mattered! As we left, we saw the coffee machine in the next room...it wasn't offered. We headed to Macca's and enjoyed cappuccino's and cake...hardly an endearing experience, sorry. Won't be going back. ☚ī¸đŸ‘Ž

Great atmosphere, great menu and friendly staff. I've also seen some fun performances here.

If you love that tucked away feel this is for you. Reminiscent of an English pub. Homemade pizza. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Great place for food, service and ambiance. The connected Open Pantry is fab for lunch and deli supplies, then Main Bar for dinner, then upstairs or outside for indie entertainment. Love it!

This place is fantastic! cosy, inviting and the food and wine selection are excellent.
Host Glen has done an incredible job renovating this 1850s building yet keeping a genuine historic presence.. But our meal was superb, top notch, but with reasonable price tag..whenever we are in Ballarat I would definitely return..
I ate here years ago and loved it. So when staying at the motel around the corner, I decided to take my friend to Main Bar for dinner. She had the chicken and chorizo pizza and I had the prawn, chilli and garlic pizza. They were both amazing!!! The prawns were so fresh they popped in your mouth! The pizzas are cooked to perfection too. What more could you want?? We left happy women!

Terrible. You walk in and the bar is about 50 cm from the door and you don't know what to. Go around? An amateur attempt at designing a bar and dining area that feels uncomfortable, hard and cramped. It's also a sound trap so you can perfectly hear everyone's conversations. Awkwardly misplaced decor, bad lighting and uncomfortable seats. Staff are sloppily dressed with attitudes to match and not in a hip way either. This place is not where people go. No one knows what's going on. Pizza took 1 hour. The place had 5 people in it. Never again.

Amazing place for breakfast. Loved the food and the building is beautiful. Thanks for the tour! Next time we'll have to stay for a whisky and a show upstairs!

Good pizza, well priced in a cool wood-covered dining room. Go along on a night when there are musicians jamming upstairs, order a bottle of wine grab some chocolates or nuts from the bar and just be cool.

We had take out from the Main Bar last night and the whole family really enjoyed it. We tried the pumpkin and pesto pizza, the garlic and chilli prawn and the potato and Rosemary pizza. All were simple, focused on fresh, quality ingredients. If you enjoy thin bases with minimal full flavoured simple toppings, this is your place for a great meal. Yum!

Best pizza in town.. Great pizzas! As a pizza enthusiast I've struggled to find a pizza in Ballarat thats better than my homemade ones. The toppings are fresh and the bases are always perfect. I really do love these pizzas.

My second visit to The Main Bar and just as impressed as my first visit. Beautiful, tasty fresh pizzas with a crisp thin crust - great service and the ambience is fantastic. This pizzeria has been here longer than The Forge and is much more enjoyable. If you enjoy a laid back venue that you can hear what your dining companions are saying (not like the incredibly noisy Forge) then this is the place to dine.

Delish!. We had the grilled eggplant pizza. Unlike the one I have had in Rome, the eggplant was treated well, beautifully grilled and the whole pizza was bursting with flavour.
Prompt and pleasant service and decor is adorable and quirky. Would definitely go back.
Even though they only use local ingredients the chill flakes on the side was a bit rich at $2.

Lovely food & great atmosphere. Gorgeous little pizzeria with great food. It's not a big building by any means so book in advance. All local ingredients are used and the pizza was beautiful. Looking forward to going back.

Quirky & yummy!. I went out for dinner on a Saturday night, it was surprisingly quiet for a pizza restaurant, which got me worried. But I needn't have worried as the pizzas were brilliant!
The waitress listed some specials as we sat down, but she said them so fast that by the time I read the actual menu, I had forgotten everything she had said - I think it would be better if they had a specials board.
So, I had the Anchovy pizza, and although I loved it, I think having the Spanish Onion, plus olives, plus anchovies was a little too much - the onion wasn't needed at all.
For dessert I had the Sticky Date Pudding, which was delicious, and not overly sweet as some can be.
I will love to go back and try a few more of the interesting looking pizzas.

We walked the whole of Ballarat to find a decent ale and found this place, The Main Bar. Tucked away and hard to find, they serve fantastic food with a range of gourmet pizzas. They also serve Holgate beer and a good selection of whisky.

Melbourne experience at Ballarat prices!. Great food at good prices, great atmosphere and pleasant staff. Good wine and drink range. What more do you want?!
