Review Macarthur Street Larder - Ballarat

Hugo Crystal
I have been through the previous reviews and found some negative feedbacks during last two or three months. They didn't put me off at all. I am on a cafe crawl in Ballarat at the moment. I only randomly pop in the cafe along the way. This cafe was caught my eyes. I decided to pop in but couldn't find the way in. I eventually found the entrance. I forgot that this establishment was the shop before. It was 10am in the morning. So I was the first customer of Tuesday. My order was a cappuccino with double shot, and poached eggs with turkish breads. Coffee was beautiful and my brunch was well presented and scrumptious. Eggs were perfectly poached. Breads were golden brown. I have to say it totally was worth coming in this cafe. Loved the service and I could feel the vibe of a family business. Service is a key for cafe business. Please keep up the good sdtaffing and food quality. Five stars for your improvement based on what I have seen today.

Fabulous coffee, sourced from Brunswick. But their own twist, beautifully made to. Cute little cafe, warm relaxed feel with a traditional meets vego/vegan brekkie and lunch menu. Good serving and freshly made , will go back again! Young lady serving was pleasant and efficient there is indoor and out door seating. Lacks tho parking, some at side and front.

This Cafe is incredible. The food is amazing, but the coffee is even better. Hands down the best coffee I have had in Ballarat. The owners are lovely, the staff are attentive, and overall it is just a nice place to eat or drink coffee. I recommend them strongly!

Incredibly friendly happy staff, delicious coffee, tasty muffins and to top it off a warm atmosphere and a kid play area and outdoor dining for your dog! Absolutely love it, will definitely spread the word and come back again soon👌💕

DISAPPOINTING SERVICE! There was two waitresses rostered on for Saturday lunch shift of whom seemed uninterested in customer service. We stood at the "Wait to be seated sign" to be looked up and down several times first. When seated we were given 3 empty water glasses and no water, further when we asked for extra cutlery it was thrown in our direction on the table. Although we did see the sign on the front door warning customers of a 30min wait time on meals, we ordered three meals which took 65mins, while there was less than 20 people in the cafe. Food was enjoyable though after it arrived awkwardly late. Further to the owner's reply, it was not specifically the wait times but the waitresses' attitudes. No excuse for this.

First of all i did try to review this establishment via Facebook but my review was deleted and my Facebook profile was reported. Apparently a private citizen is not allowed to provide feedback of a negative experience in this establishment. My dining companion ordered a flat white that was so hot it may as well have been a cup of milk vapour. I ordered a baby cino and gingerbread man for my daughter. The baby cino was steaming hot and the gingerbread man was stale. Obviously using the same milk as the flat white but seriously, you are serving this to a child. Use some caution. For myself, I ordered a sticky chai. For one, the teapot was filthy. Two, I inexplicably did not get a saucer with my cup, just the cup, teapot and spoon placed on the table in front of me. And three, it was regular chai tea leaves, not the prepared sticky chai that i had ordered. The staff were in what i can only assume is a team meeting in the kitchen as there was a lot of chatter in there and absolutely no cleaning of the goods lining the shelves surrounding the kitchen that were caked in layers of dust. Nor were they picking up the dirty cloth laying on the floor near the kitchen entrance that remained for the duration of our visit. Also, the family or tenants who we were obviously bothering as they glared at us while they roamed throughout the venue as if we were sitting in the lounge of the family home. Now we used to visit this establishment frequently and have been disappointed to see the venue steadily go downhill over the last 12 months or so. And i can understand that the owner or manager might not want to hear a negative review about their business however, censoring customers is definitely the incorrect approach. I have no option but to give them a star rating but for so many reasons i cannot even offer one. My whole experience has now been tainted by the behaviour of senior staff or owners and i am going to be spreading the news of my experience through my own parenting groups and workplace social circles to advise them of the appalling experience i have endured.
