Review Crazy Asian - Ballarat

Stephen Duns
This has to be one of the worst restaurants I've been to in a long time. I had some dumplings and they were obviously just heated up frozen dumplings that can be bought in the supermarket. To be sure I asked if the dumplings were made on site and she said "no". We also had soup, with more frozen dumplings and special fried rice, which was acceptable but boring. We had to ask for ice several times. They had no sparkling water, even though it was on the menu. It was a shameful disgrace. Avoid this place!

First, I don't like to make an public review wich will impact to the business in bad way, specialy in this hard situation to all businesses during covid time period. But because of the owners attitude of this restaurant ,its force me to make this review..I purchased nasi Goreng and special fried rice through the doordash app and I paid extra 4 dollars to make the portion large size . Once I received the food I was surprised after seen amount of meat and seafood has been add to my order.. and also rice is very dry as well..its seems like straight way take out from the fridge and microwaved..in the menu has mentioned both rice dishes serve with BBQ pork and shrimps, but I barely find shrimps and pork, almost nothing at all.. just 6 tiny pieces shrimps and very tiny pieces of BBQ pork may be no more than 8 pieces in both fried rice , I have attched the pics in this comment .thers no pork at all in the special fried rice.. I have made the call to inform them in very respectful way that I'm not happy with the food and try to explain have to received more meat in the food and this not the way other restaurants serving nasi Goreng and special fried rice, it could be different the way you serving food, but still it has to be considerable amount of meat acording to what you are charging from the customers .lady who answer the phone after few second she hangup the phone without say nothing and I called agin then person who answer , I assume he is the owner of the restaurant and dont even bother to hear what i was trying to say, he started to raise his voice and told me "this is small order, this is what you get from this restaurant, if you don't like what I serve don't order from this restaurant, go for another place, ""and some other rubbish things in very disrespect full way and he say" bye bye "like singing song.didnt even let me say single word. Never seen any one behaving like this way in food restaurant business. Hard to believe this kind of worst attitude people how they run restuarant.dosnt matter if you don't know how to cook and serve proper food , but don't disrespect to the customers this way... ultra disappointed and shame in you guys..people like you not deserve to be in this business..........think twice before you order from this restaurant..fake food, worst attitude..please don't waste your money on them...

Came here for an early lunch en route west. I needed something tasty and this place was set amongst many chain stores like Maccas and Nandos. I wanted food that was delicious and that’s what I got. I ordered beef and vegetables and the portion size was excellent so much so I took the rest with me for dinner later that night. The restaurant is a good size and would hold lots of patrons. There is a bar and it’s licensed. I was asked if I wanted rice with my meal and said. O. If I had of said yes, I reckon I could’ve stretched it for another 3 meals. Staff were really lovely, spoke good English and very helpful. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly with high chairs. Food parking out the front. Take away available.

Ordered roast Duck, was badly cooked and very smokee and half cooked, Nasigoreng Rice had lot of turmeric?? Dumplings were ok. They need to improve cooking. Good luck

Do they even open? Their tines say 11:00 to 2:30, three times in a row I have tried to have lunch here but they are never open! There are people inside but doors locked and sign saying closed. They must not want our money!

ordered through Doordash (never using them again) - food never arrived and when I phoned to find out where food was (nearly two hours later), the manager put the phone down on me. Called again - several times - before finally getting someone to speak to me; nearly two hours after placing order, was told my food had been "delivered to the wrong address and they had eaten it so I needed to call Doordash" (ikr?) So, it's now nearly 11pm and I'm having to smash something together out of the fridge/freezer despite placing an order for food at 6:30pm. Spent over $100 and all I'm getting is the bog-standard 'auto-reply' from Doordash saying my "order is on it's way" and my "order has been cancelled by the restaurant, please wait three business days for refund". WTAF? Seriously - save yourself a lot of hassle - order from somewhere else and use a different delivery company unless you want to go through my problems on a Monday evening. Jeesh!

Been here a couple of times, it's generally good value for money but the service can be pretty poor. Some of the meals can be a little bland, but that seems to be a Ballarat thing.

I don’t like to talk negatively about businesses but when I pay money I expect to get what I paid for. I could put up with a building needing attention or if the odd staff member was a little rude because of their problems, but if the food is not great than I have a problem. I had a BBQ PORK CHILLI and for some reason it was really salty. I’m not sure if it’s meant to taste that way as I’m not a big Asian food person but this just tasted like salt. My wife ordered some crab claws with were $5 for two and the claws were the size of a 20cent piece... the dumpling sling were very small and expensive. I get it, we are in hard times right now, but that should only make you work harder to stay open and keep people coming back.

So sad. I come from Melbourne to have a overnight stay in ballarat. We had been in sovereign hill all day and felt like Chinese food for dinner. We ordered chicken and seasonal veggies which wasnt cooked in anything else other than garlic. There was no love in any of these dishes. We also got a large special fried rice. The rice was like glue. And if that was a large fried rice i am 100 feet tall. Seriously though Lastly we ordered beef and black bean veggies were so nice in it. The beef was that tough it should not be like that it should melt in your mouth. The sauce that was in the beef and black been had a burnt taste to it. This was for our main. The steam dim sims were eatable. Alot of spring onions in them. Short soup no flavor. Wontons were like rubber. Very poor experience we dinned in And found our own table.

I dont know what the complaints are about. I just had my first delivery from this place and it was amazing. Best fried rice ive eaten in ballarat, and in over 20 years ive tried pretty much everywhere. Garlic prawns were huge and plenty of them with enough garlic to satisfy even my obsession. Sweet and sour pork was sweet AND sour, instead of just sweet, like most other places these days. Vegies were fresh and tasty, even the kids demolished it. Highly recommend.

A friend suggested this place and I was a bit hesitant after reading the reviews! I do believe in trying for yourself so we headed out last night. We had great service and the food was delish. We enjoyed dumplings, pork buns, cumin lamb, nasi goreng and the best egg plant dish ever. Will be heading back again.

Waited an hour for our order even though the restaurant was basically empty . Paid $ 17 dollars for a tiny plate of honey chicken which was in a soggy sugar sauce that didn't even taste like honey .It sure made kfc pop corn chicken look five star. Had to pay extra for a tiny mound of rice and overall food taste in edible. I am definitely not ever going back

Loved this place! It was subtle, classy, creative, kinky! All flavour mixes were perfect. I've eaten here many times and the standard is always high. The authentic Chinese dumpling, salt&pepper calamari, special fried rice and fried ice cream are all great. A special note also to mention their great staff. Always very polite, quick and attentive. : )

HONESTLY THE WORST MEAL I'VE EVER HAD!!! I wish I could say that I am exaggerating my title but it was without a doubt the worst meal that I have ever received. For entree we ordered, Prawn Ginger Dumplings, Crazy Asian Wings, Won Tons and Sweet Corn Chicken Soup - every one on the dishes was absolutely flavourless. Plus the won tons were tiny - around the size of 20c piece and definitely not worth $4.50. For main we ordered a Garlic Chicken and a Lemon Chicken with a Large Steamed Rice - once again we were left wondering where the flavour was. The Garlic Chicken somewhat consisted of a Garlic flavour but the amount of gristle (cartridge) that was found in the Chicken meant that the dish was inedible. Then astoundingly, a "Lemon Chicken" which is known as a staple of Chinese restaurants and a simple recipe - was anything but lemon. There was no trace of lemon in either smell or taste! Remarkably and I don't know how - but it honestly smelt like massage oil used by remedial masseuses. All of all, it was a complete disappointment and in no way will we ever return - I have no idea how this place is still in business given the absolute terrible quality and inedibility of our meal!

Friendly and quick service. Cheap and delicious meals, specially the lunch time deals, can't go wrong :D.
Natural Selection
Was ok. As good or better than any food court option. And fresher, bigger portions/slightly bigger price. The banana fritter was amazing, but I thought bit of icecream was standard at these type of places?? Apparently not... (I don't really like icecream but they do go well together)..... They have updated takeout menu to include (expensive) dumplings since menu listed here. I can't figure out how to update the menu.... I tried taking a few photos- they don't seem to have worked. Mains about $15 now

One of Ballarat gem if you are craving for rice and some spicy Chinese food. We come in with limited expectation as our Thai food experience the day before was sub par. Interestingly we are quite pleased. Great service by 1 lady only and foods were great. Our order were crispy beef, Szechuan eggplant, bbq pork omelette and XO sauce chicken. All were great especially the crispy beef.
Definitely one of the place to go if you are craving rice after long drive.

Food 4
Service 4
Ambience 4 (the TV showing Chinese culinary was great!)

My friend was shipped from this company and came with multiple malfunctions. Further more, the company didn't allow me to exchange him for a different model. Do nto buy from this company

We order take away from the restaurant regularly and normally it's a great experience with good food sadly today that was not the case. The delivery was 20min late and when I called to check on it I was told "maybe the driver is on the way" the food was not hot We had to microwave meals. Once I started serving it was clear the cashew chicken was missing one of its main ingredients, the cashews were no where to be seen.

Absolutely disgusting food. Seriously avoid this place like the plague! I've only been here once and that was definitely enough. The most revolting Asian food I've ever had the misfortune to throw away!
Ordered takeaway online. Ready on time, but can't comment any further on service. Ordered what I consider 'safe' dishes. The food was well cooked in the sense that it wasn't over or under done, but that's where the good news stops.
The cashew chicken was so completely devoid of flavour that I wonder if any sauce was used at all. The pieces of chicken weren't cut up properly and came joined together in a large clump that made serving difficult. The chicken also contained a few pieces of gristle. The honey chicken came with a pathetic, watery sauce that had only the faintest hint of honey. The batter on the chicken was soggy. At least the plain rice was okay.

Have been here twice now. Enjoyable food both takeaway and to dine. Even better was the dumpling special of the day. Decent food at a decent price. Will definitely be returning.

Great service! Had the Tuesday dinner special 4 courses for $20 was great! The staff couldn't be more helpful! And they didn't fill you up on rice!

Just enjoyed an excellent 3 course dinner here at the Crazy Asian with the missus and stepdaughter. Entree was BBQ Pork Buns (Better than the last ones I bought at Chinatown), steamed chicken dumplings and steamed dim sims (awesome!)
Mains were Nasi Goring fried rice, Satay Chicken and Lemon Chicken. All three serves were massive, the Satay was delicious with a creamy peanutty sauce. Dessert was Fried ice Cream and Banana Fritters. Both were great, the Banana Fritter was huge with two massive scoops of ice cream served along side.

Will be going back for sure, excellent prompt service, with a max wait of 10 mins for the entree to arrive. Very reasonable prices as well!

Food was okay, service disgraceful. Tried ordering online, after submitting got told to wait an hour. Waited an hour and a half and called, driver had left 30 mins ago. Waited another 30 minutes and finally arrived. Food appeared microwaved.

Slop!!!. Absolutely disgusting slop which took nearly 2 hours to deliver. Beef and Black bean was simply gravy on tough meat and vegetable and the Chili Beef had no chili (or taste) whatsoever! I wouldn't feed it to my dog!

All round great experience, thank you. Great food, great service, great price, great atmosphere, give em a go,
Melindacarr77
Very disappointed. Very disappointed!
Chicken cashew tasted as if it was in water rather than oyster sauce, the garlic chicken was the same, they were out of prawn cutlets so they gave us soggy spring rolls, the large king prawn fried rice only had one king prawn! And the prawn crackers were stale! $70 wasted!

Great food. Delicious, especially the chicken and cashews. Friendly service.

Not the best. I took one bite from a dim sim, one bite from a spring roll and one spoon of my main before throwing it all in the bin and going to get maccas. Dim sims were cold. Chicken was fatty. Sauces were far from enjoyable. On the plus side prawn crackers were good but I won't go back to the crazy Asian.
