What a lovely little Cafe. After moving into Ballarat from Melbourne for work, it was great to discover this gem that I can pop in to for lunch. Delicious, home-made sandwiches, bagels and turkishes are what you can expect. I've tried a different one each day and they have all been fantastic. They are also a deli and offer cheeses, sweets etc but I haven't really explored that. I also have to say the staff are particularly friendly, and this is during the lunch rush.

Quality cafe. We've come to rely on the Red Bird Cafe...consistently good. Red Bird stands out like a beacon among the pedestrian dullness of Ballarat eateries.

The husband and wife owners are totally involved, ensuring standards don't slip. The comment in the first review here ("offhand" service) is I think a misunderstanding- the place is busy. If you engage them, the owners are in fact both friendly and respond to critical comments generously, always ready to put themselves out for customers. One example is provision of gluten-free items.

Great food. The food here is great, really delicious lunches, yum salads, nice cakes. We have eaten here several times when in town and it is always good. A few things slightly let this place down - if you go at breakfast the coffee is served far too hot, the owner is bit offhand, and the decor could be more attractive - but for the food alone this is one of the best cafés in Ballarat.
