Review Tokyo Sushi Kitchen - Ballarat

I ordered a a tonkatsu ramen soup and a katsu udon soup and both items were missing all of the pictures ingredients (except the noodles and chicken) that were in the Uber eats photos, not acceptable to send out food that is so substantially different from advertised.

Staff was very nice and understanding. It's just the quality of the food was horrible. Me and my friend both ordered Ramen and what was serve to us was NOT ramen. The noodle was bad, instant noodles maybe. With both the beef that i ordered and chicken that my friend orded tasted funny. Would not go back here unless im dying if starvation

Ordered the tonkatsu ramen for $9.80. Food was microwaved. This shop has no clue what REAL ramen tastes like. The sushi was okay, but it wasn’t like your typical sushi shop. Go to Ajisen Ramen or Sushi Sushi instead of this shop.

Well that was really disappointing.... I just ordered a crispy chicken and an avocado/tuna sushi roll... I couldn't see the Avocado so I asked the girl "is there definitely avocado in that?" She says yeah it's more inside the roll.... Well, there was about 1 gram or enough to see under a microscope... And, NO WASABI, NO GINGER - they didn't have any - I asked. Very average tasting (sweet, sugary tuna) and overall disappointing - I won't be coming back. Yes I expect Avocado in my Tuna Avocado Sushi. Yes I expect Wasabi and pickled Ginger because it is a standard!!!! You've got to get the basics right otherwise why bother!?

Bit of a hit and miss, no consistency with their sushi. I used to get the crab inari because it was the perfect balance of mayo to crab and now it's so dry with no mayo. There might be roe on top if your lucky that day to! It's only busy because of the location, not for the quality of product!

Great variety of food. I'm not a huge sushi eater which they cater for with fried rice, noodles and different types of meat (sweet soy chicken, honey and lemon chicken etc) In a good location with plenty of seating however it can get pretty busy especially over the weekend or school holidays. The only reason it is three stars is because the price to amount of food you actually get is pretty outrageous. For a medium container (spoon full of rice and spoon full of two kinds of meat) is 12 dollars. Hard to justify spending that money unless you're really craving it.

I can’t eat a lot of food so asked for just a very small serving and I was happy to pay for full. The rude server said “ I have to make it to specifications “ she started piling on the food, I then so “ please just small, happy to pay for whatever but just half that” ( seriously you are making money off me!! What’s the issue??). Then irritated , she threw the plate on the bench and was horrificly rude. Teach your staff how to interject with people! I wasn’t asking for her first born!

This is one of THE MOST exceptional restaraunts I've eaten at. Delicious and fair prices, the staff were friendly and the food was generous and awesome. I HIGHLY recommend.

The food here is great and there's a wonderful range. My only complaints would be that the miso soup is a bit bland and the staff aren't trained appropriately for working in a specialty cuisine shop. Each time I eat here, the serving staff are lovely, of course, but they have no idea what the menu items are, and if you say the menu item to them, they don't know what you're talking about; you end up having to point it out for them. They cannot pronounce the menu items, either, which, to me, seems a little unprofessional. The young girls there also do not have their hair contained safely (fringes poking out of their headbands), and I've been served multiple times by a young lady wearing long, fake, painted nails, which, as someone who has been trained to work with food, I know this is not safe practice in a food handling environment. It's a wonderful place, I love getting take away from here, and it's so convenient! But it would be nice if the serving staff knew a bit more about the job they were doing and showed a bit more interest.

I am surprised by the relatively low rating so feel like I ought to write a review. I think part of the confusion here is the fact that this place has three distinct menus: 1. A hot bar that features Chinese-Malaysian-Japanese fusion, with things like Peanut Satay and spring rolls, and 'meal deals' that come with soft drink. 2. A cold bar with Nori rolls, Sashimi boxes, and fusion rice-paper rolls. 3. A-la-carte hot food to order. This is the Japanese menu. My 5-star review is for Menu 3. For good value freshly made Japanese food at lunch time, there aren't better in town. You can get rice bowls (don) soups (ramen and udon) - all just under $10 - and also bento boxes - for $3 more - which come with miso soup, salad, crab salad, some tempura veg, choice of main, and rice. This has become a pretty regular lunch place for me. Salmon bento is amazing. As this is a franchise you can read the official menu on the generic website.

While the Nori rolls and the pricing is good, the buffet food is mediocre and tastes more like Chinese takeaway food that they have changed the names to make it sound more Japanese, while I don't dislike Chinese takeaway, it's definitely not traditional Japanese food.
