Review Our Place On Darling - Balmain

So accommodating for my Low Fodmap self during a function, delicious! Service excellent, nice space (beware, steepish stairs for those with knee issues to get to the rooftop), loved it. You should go. Or book your function there.

Fabulous local with a great atmosphere. Great value modern Australian. Espetada is a delicious signature dish 🍽️😋

Absolutely amazing! Have brought all my family and friends here over the years. The owner Marco and the lovely staff are so welcoming, treat you like family and have awesome senses of humour. These people, food and atmosphere are the best. Seriously, the food is ridiculously addictive and I will never say no to their coffees. Recommend to all.

The best and freshest oysters we’ve ever had in a restaurant - freshly shucked they were all divine. The rest of our meals were delicious too, the zucchini zoodle and fresh crab dish was delicious. Sad to hear they are closing their restaurant in a few months. We will be back as many times as we can until then .

Beautiful little place with a taste of everything. I enjoy their free soup Mondays which go beautifully with some of their garlic bread :)

Amazing food, warm atmosphere, friendly and accommodating staff. The menu is small and simple, but executed very very well. The sticky date pudding was the best I have ever had, hands down - also really enjoyed the barramundi main. Love the focus on seasonal produce, and cannot wait for the argentinian BBQ to return so we can try it!

I would definitely recommend this place and will definitely be returning. The staff were very friendly, competent and accommodating for requests. The food was delicious, reasonably sized and very enjoyable. There was a good cross selection of food and I just wanted to try it all. The stuffed zucchini flowers, feta filo and espetada were the stand out dishes for me.

I've been going to Our Place countless years and they've never failed to amaze and surprise me with their terrific service, outstanding food and amazing attitude. I especially love how they never answer no, the customer is always right and it's wonderful. I 100% suggest Our Place for people of all ages, particularly families. So sad to hear they're closing down.

We celebrated the husbands 40th at Our Place on Darling. Marco and his team could not have been more accomodating. From menu planning to timings to setting up decorations early Marco worked with our vision and what worked for him. On the day he and his wait staff worked tirelessly to make our party fabulous! I cannot more highly recommend Our Place on Darling and Marco and his wonderful staff

Such a great night here! It's a lovely ambience with the fairy lights overhead and friendly staff. The food is also yum. We had the figs and blue cheese entree which was great, and the tomato and mozzarella which was nice but not as good as the figs I thought. For mains, we had the barramundi and gnocchi. Both were yum. The barramundi and Portuguese chicken seemed to be the most popular dishes ordered. For dessert, we had the chocolate fondant, which I would definitely recommend if you're a chocolate lover. Pair it with PX sherry. Oh and it's BYO

Dropped in walking by as the menu looked good. The staff, presentation and food was exceptional. Was immediately impressed by a shot of chilled cucumber soup. Leaving the whole shell of the oyster was a nice touch. Enjoyed the tenderness of the beef espetada and the textures and mix of flavours of the crispy duck salad were to die for.

Stunning set up on the balcony. Enjoyed my skewered beef in red wine chilli sauce and of course the waffle chips were fab! I also enjoyed the salad touch of shaved veggies.

As soon as I saw the menu I knew this was a winner, well thought out, lots of diff options to suit varied tastes and even more delicious than the items were described! I had the gnocchi in the taragon cream....YUUUUM - Good service and delicious wine - Thanks! Im sorry I don't live in Sydney otherwise it will be my regular.

Flying visit here on the way to the airport to feed the departing traveller. It was a quiet Monday evening that found the staff friendly, the ambience peaceful with a warm evening, and the food tasty. <br/>Mushroom Ragu for me was just the right portion size and had a nice strong mushroom flavour on a tender pasta. <br/>One on the strip I'd be happy to explore more.

Lovely balmy evening, sitting on a table outside, with dappled light and a light breeze. I love where we live.<br/><br/>Staff quickly take our order, giving kids colouring in to do and bringing the kids spaghetti Napoletana out first. They love it. They're busy.<br/><br/>Saganaki with chilli jam is delish, although not a generous serve. My croquettes were more moosh than corn/chorizo, but still nice. Sriracha mayo so mild as to be boring.<br/><br/>Duck confit salad was odd. Hot confit duck Maryland on top of straggly rocket, with firm white peach segments and roasted walnuts. Duck was yum, don't get me wrong, but it was out of place. I was expecting chunks, off the bone. Salad was sweaty and hot underneath.<br/><br/>Wife's oysters looked fresh, plump and had a wonderful vinaigrette.<br/><br/>Very much a warm and homely feel. Not pretentious. Good with kids. But not fancy.

A nice little cafe on Darling St. As our usual cafe was packed and extremely busy, we thought we'd give this cafe a try. We had the Spanish Baked eggs and also the house special of mackerel. We had just missed the breakfast menu, however, the Spanish Baked eggs was still there for late comers. <br/><br/>The Spanish Baked eggs was nice however I was expecting the usual Chorizo rounded as common with other Spanish backed eggs, but this was chopped into pieces like mince meat, which I was a bit dissapointed about. There wasn't much Chorizo in the dish however there was a lot of eggs used compared to other places. Not bad though. <br/><br/>The house special with mackerel was nice and a bit different to something you might get from other cafes. <br/><br/>Overall, it's a nice cafe with a home type of feeling to it, which makes it relaxing and cosy.

How good is this place - great food, super service, friendly staff and pleasant place to dine near the markets / church and across from Gladstone Park
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
Lovely little family friendly cafe serving up delicious breakfast dishes, big smiles and wonderful service in a rustic setting. There is also an upstairs courtyard which I've always thought would be a nice setting for a private function.<br/>

Fantastic meal with great service. Very happy all round and would recommend. The staff made good recommendations for wine matches with the food we ordered and the meals were beautifully presented and cooked.
FoodMonster
Great service but a raft of problems with the order and food that needed to be sorted out. At least it was service with a smile! Used to be flat out here on a Sat morning however there was plenty of space today.

We were pleasantly surprised by the great food and courteous service. Recommended for a casual breakfast or lunch during the week or on the weekend.

Food is great and always very good value. My kids always want to go there. <br/>Kids menu is good too and they eat for free 5:30 to 6:30pm every day. Defintely the best kid friendly restaurant in the Peninsula.<br/>The staff is always amazing.<br/>Can only recommend them.<br/>We go there at least once a week.

Friendly local. I stopped in for my first coffee of the day and took a sticky beak around while I was at it. There is quite a range of seating available, outdoor pavement seating, a ground floor dining room and then the secret charm - an upstairs courtyard deck area. Our Place is obviously a family favorite, with families dominating the clientele when I was there. My coffee was quite good and the service was very friendly and pleasant.

Have had the luxury of dining here on two separate occasions now and both experiences were great. The food was wonderful each time as was the service. I've seen a number of other reviewers mention Our Place being "kid friendly", however I don't think this would be the case for anything outside of breakfast or lunch. The ambiance would be ruined by screaming children during dinner service as it's not a particularly large restaurant.<br/>Whilst the food was great both times I've been, I do have one criticism. That is the lack of variety. We dined months apart yet the menu had not been updated from what we could tell (we had just started a new season), and this is an issue when the menu is small to begin with. Luckily there was still enough for us to try and we were not disappointed, however I have to say it has influenced our decision not to return any time soon even though will undoubtably be back in the future.

Cozy, family friendly, fantastic service and food was top qualtiy. A must visit for a delicious dinner. 12 hour roast lamb was amazing!! Complimentary tasters were a nice touch.

A great night, thanks. I had a shared birthday dinner here on Saturday night in the upstairs function area. It was great. The staff were just lovely and accommodating (thanks Jenny and Marco), the food was cooked well, filling and tasty. A really good group dining experiences and the function space is perfect for private group dining.

Great Food and Service. The staff are always polite and accommodating.<br/>The food is always excellent and well presented.<br/>I enjoy coming here on a frequent basis, and am looking forward to eating here in the future.

Great family friendly restaurant or date night. I have been coming to our place for over five years and the service is consistent and a favourite on my eating out places. All staff are lovely and since having kids they are great when we done with them. The food is outstanding. I highly recommend this place

A great little cafĂŠ near Balmain markets with friendly staff and amazing food. A great place to bring the children for a gourmet breakfast on the weekend. We visited Our Place on Darling on a busy Saturday morning with our 2 children. It is located at the end of Darling St next to the Balmain markets which run every Saturday. The staff are very helpful and brought us a high chair from downstairs straight away to contain our active toddler. There was plenty of room for the pram as well at the table indoors. The cafĂŠ offers both indoor and outdoor seating and a courtyard section on the roof which is accessed by steep stairs. We were given the kids menu with a bunch of crayons which helped to keep little hands busy for a while. Little things such as bringing a plastic cup for water for our toddler when a jug was brought to the table really helped. There is also a basket of toys

Overall, the service was fantastic, with our waiters tending to our every want and need. Besides the strangely long wait time between the entrees, it was an excellent night, full of fantastic food and company.

Our Place on Darling is a very homely feeling restaurant. The meals taste very homely and fulfilling but a touch nicer than a home cooked meal.<br/><br/>Try your best to find some parking near Our Place on Darling! Balmain is not the most parking friendly place but it will be worth it. As always, Our Place on Darling starts with complimentary shots of soup.

Are you looking for a cosy restaurant with excellence customer service and some tasty delights?  Check out what I ordered on this particular night.  Our Place on Darling is a child friendly restaurant which may or may attract you to this venue. I was looking for a nice restaurant in Balmain and read some pretty nice reviews on Urbanspoon. I thought the staff were very helpful and provided just the right amount of attention. The highlight of the night was the dessert.  Both the honeycomb cheesecake and the mango and passionfruit semifreddo were awesome.  Let's talk about the other parts of the meal. Complimentary soup - Potato and Cauliflower A nice way to start the evening was the complimentary soup taster.  It was smooth and creamy in texture.  I also ordered the entree below which was the Saganaki.  The bread was really soft. The cheese was nice with the chilli and tomato sauce (which I didn't really taste the chilli in). Saganaki - Panfried greek sheep's cheese, chilli and tomato ch

We were here for breakfast and everything on the menu sounded wonderful but I couldn’t go past the roast corn and pumpkin fritters, soft poached eggs, tomato and avocado. OH MY! The combination of corn and pumpkin were delicious. The soft oozy eggs, and the tomato and avocado a wonderful complement. It was the perfect breakfast for a cold Saturday morning.

Best meal in ages. Tourists, looking for a good meal and we found it here. The service was top notch, the kids were made very welcome. They ate for free. My lamb was amazing and thorougly enjoyed it. Gnocchi was also really great

Diner from Sydney. My husband and our two sons have been regular diners at Our Place on Darling over many years. We haven't been eating out much lately, so our visits have been less frequent, but last night we dropped in to Our Place on Darling with our boys for a mid week family dinner. This restaurant never disappoints. The food is great and great value, the service is consistently warm and friendly. I always order the Espetada and always enjoy it. Last night the Zucchini Flowers were a delightful starter. I heartily recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious, affordable food in a charming venue.

A Great Place To Dine. How can you go wrong at Our Place. The food is exceptional, the staff are absolutely lovely. It is a wonderful location with a fantastic reputation. If your one who does not do well with children then I would recommend a later booking. If you have kids then this is a great place to bring them along, the staff work well with children and have colouring and other activities for the younger ones. <br/><br/>The specials are always changing and bring such variety it will have you coming back again and again to sample the new flavours. The house standard menu is also packed with such a contrast of food that the old favourites tempt you time and again. <br/><br/>Keep up the good work and look forward to our next visit

Best decision! My bf and I .... Best decision!<br/>My bf and I decided to go out for dinner last minute on a rainy Saturday night. Ended up here and was the best decision made!! We rocked up w/o booking at 7:45pm and lucky for us there was a table. Staff were fantastic, the place is just adorable with fairy lights to boot and food was yummy. <br/>After our orders were made, a sample shot of spicy pumpkin soup was offered. Divine! The mains were great and desert to top it off was beautiul. Will definitely be back

Great food, friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere. Please stay away, it's 'our place'

Great place. Four of us had dinner sat night, busy but not overly loud. Great service, very friendly and attentive. Excellent menu, we all loved our dishes. Will be back soon.

Best brekkie in balmain. I truly believe after testing most Cafes in balmain that our place does the best brekkie!

Spent last sunday afternoon up in the outdoor courtyard under the fairy lights. Fantastic atmosphere. The Portuguese espatada was a hit and so too was the kids version .... the espatini !! The pork belly was unforgettable. Will go again

It's a nice place. Had a nice breakfast with friends here. The hash browns in the Eggs Benedict were excellent, but the corn and pumpkin fritters were a bit too sweet (and stodgy) for a savoury item. Nice coffee. Will have to try the green eggs and ham next time.

YAY!. This place was great. Really wonderful staff - they were all so freindly and communicative. Love this place. We had several share plates for dinner instead of a main each, and this was great. We ordered too many cheese dishes in hindsight, but we still ate them all and just succumbed to the cheese-coma later :-) I would recommend this place.

Best Breaky. Have been to Our Place for breakfast too many times to count. Whilst we have tried other places, we cannot help but to go back. (Not on the menu but a side of chilli jam tops it off if you ask for it!)
Michelle
One of my favorites in Balmain. But they've out priced themselves and made the menu too complicated with sharing menus. It's a shame because the food is good, but it's not good value for a simple night out at average $50 a head

On point plates, flavors and service.. First of all great service and nice drinks. good start.<br/><br/>the entres did not disappoint, we went with the tasting sampler of the day.<br/><br/> great spice to my main the espatada, perfectly cooked (medium) meat and sweet crisp greens to compliment the dish. we also got the gnocchi with minted lamb and the entre sampler with a few tastings (pork belly, baba, squid, beat salad and mussels) all hit high notes, the squid just needed a sauce. other dishes had nuanced and complimentary sauces or chutneys except the pop corn shrimp. said shrimp were then dunked in the mussel broth. all sorted. <br/><br/>balmain, mod oz, hood-gem, repeat visit,<br/><br/>FOOD = Awesome Farm to Market High-end good value<br/>ROOM = Quaint house, outdoor seating, next to Market<br/>SERVICE = Smart, present but not pesky<br/>NOISE = Great soundtrack, hushed tones, low reverb<br/>RECO = Tasting entre sampler for two, Pork Belly, Coffee

Great Simple tasty food. My wife and I were taken to this lovely place by an old friend who lived in sydney ages ago and it was fantastic. The food was portioned perfectly and tasty. The Portuguese Skewer had a great kick and I would recommend the chocolate fondant to finish. 10/10

I was unimpressed. Limited menu that needs an update. I had the pork belly which despite a grandiose description turned out to be an uninspired bowl of pork beans and spinach. The locals rave about this place, maybe they should leave the balmain area now and then and remind themselves what value looks like, dinner for 2 came to $150... Ouch!

Great for tasty and different breaky! Love it. Try the beans or corn fritters.
MarcT
Great food and service, pork belly was awesome. Thoroughly recommended.

Would you enjoy a spewathon? Mmm... Nup, neither did I... Duck isn't my favourite regurgetated meal...it's my favourite dish to eat when out for dinner though and I've been exposed to some amazingly yummy ducks. Possibly food poisioning does't suit humans but maybe it works for birds and I should lighten up! Amateur hour at my place... Everyone's invited!
