My first time at Samurai, Balmain was pretty great!
My boyfriend & I feasted on salmon sashimi, age gyoza, their infamous crispy salmon roll & their chicken teriyaki roll.
The stand-outs for me were definitely the crispy salmon roll & the sashimi. The sashimi was very impressive - it tasted super fresh & melted in the mouth, I could've eaten it all night long.
The crispy salmon roll seems like a must-have at Samurai, it was also fresh, crunchy yet soft & filled with wasabi mayo. Highly recommend!
My family and I love Samurai. A very extensive menu that caters for all taste buds and is incredibly good value. The staff are what you expect from any Japanese establishment, attentive an extremely polite. We have been going for years and also get take away regularly. The owner throws the odd gift (a surprise side dish) in there which is so touching. Really popular amongst us locals and for good reason. All staff and the owner are Japanese which is so refreshing. A Japanese venue actually ran and operated by Japanese the way it should be!!!

What amazing service what friendly people what flavours and what price!! Must go place. BYO only. Great menu with daily specials and one of the best Japanese deserts I have had.
Really great Japanese restaurant. Everything we ordered was delicious and presentation was fantastic too. The kakuni was my personal favourite dish of the night. Also, if you are a fan of eggplant the Nasumiso is definitely worth ordering! Will definitely eat here again soon!
So yum I really like this place. My favorite dishes were the crispy salmon roll and the chicken tacos. The sashimi was really fresh and delicious, we had the salmon sashimi. Beef asparagus was also very nice. Okonomiyaki wasn't great, it was too saucy so I probably wouldn't order again. Overall, great dinner and good price.
We ordered the assorted sashimi, chilli Tuna rolls, crispy salmon rolls, tempura prawns, edamame and miso. Unfortunately the edamame came out cold, making it hard to eat and the assorted sashimi pieces were very small. The sashimi and edamame came out right away but there was a significant wait for the other meals.
Well priced. Freshly made awesomely tasty food. The perfect Japanese stop.
Best Japanese in Sydney. I've been all over sampling my cuisine of choice And this place is still #1 by a long shot. Fast friendly service
Loved it! Very good value for money! Lovely service! This will be our regular!
Small, home like feeling cafe. Have tried sushi on a regular basis and this restaurant has an amazing taste- one that I have never experienced before. Sashimi was the freshest I have ever tried!! Promised to attend at least once a month for an excellent feed!!! You must try!!
My family has been going here since it opened. Love it. Fresh and very tasty. Staff are friendly and reasonably priced foods. Yummy green tea ice cream and chicken teriyaki!
Cracking little restaurant on Darling Street, Balmain. The staff are quick to greet and seat you, and also offer a complimentary serving of a little potato dish (very small - but good to get started on). The food is quickly served up and all dishes we've had so far have been top-notch. I'm a particularly big fan of the entrees!
Really good service and price. 9/10
Consistently good. I love this place, the food and service are consistently good and the more of you dining together, the better the value. I have a coeliac friend and they cater for her needs very easily.
Everything we ordered was delicious. No regrets here.
Awesome. One of the best japenese I have tried outside melbourne. Great v f m
Great Value for your money. Very reasonably priced. Good sized portions. Sashimi is always fresh and the ebi gyoza is a must try.
Service is ALWAYS excellent, friendly and polite. I usually order a few entres and they are always great. Yakatori is fairly good. The Sake Pear for dessert is a nice treat with the crispy noodles and ice cream.
So-So Japanese Food. We can't say we dislike this restaurant (it's more a take it or leave it relationship), but an extensive menu & many nice-sounding dishes are betrayed somewhat by the actual food when it arrives. Not that there's actually anything wrong with it, but it never seems as exciting or interesting as the description in the menu; we've never quite figured out why. BYO with pleasant, friendly service; small, with a convivial atmosphere & just across the road from the Cat & Fiddle pub. We've been here several times over the years hoping it might improve, but really prefer to direct our spending to our favourite Japanese - Teryaki Boy - just a few doors along Darling St. from Samurai.
