Review Phamous Kitchen - Balmain

Vietnamese food fine dining! We came here to celebrate a birthday and it was a surprise! They have vegan dishes so it's a perfect combo! Photos are Sun-kissed Mushy, Sun-kissed Scallop, Crispy Pulled Pork Pancake, Grilled Wild Barramundi, and Crushing Calamari. They were all yum!

Quite simply, this is one of the BEST restaurants in Balmain. Dear God, the food is extraordinary. The service is fantastic. I travel from Wollongong to eat here. You will not be disappointed at all. Highly recommend the pork belly w chilli jam, the rendang and the scallops. You need to eat here!!!

It’s great to be able to wine and dine again at this little boutique restaurant. Beautiful food and warm and friendly staff. This particular meal is one of my favourites. The fun part is making your own rolls of course!!!

Tonight was my second visit to this Vietnamese Restaurant and certainly won't be the last of may more. Great menu items, Wonderful tasting foods, i wondered if the food would be of the same standard on my second visit but it exceeded my expectations again. I look forward to my next visit again soon.

I wanted to give this restaurant more stars as the food was good however it is just way too overpriced. This is made worse by the small size of some of the appetisers as well as the fact they charged us $1 each per takeaway container (without telling us - we realised after checking the bill).

The food here was absolutely delicious and came with unique flavours I hadn’t experienced before. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very relaxed, perfect for a night out with a loved one where you want to be able to chat easily over dinner. The staff were friendly and were easy to get a hold of. We were thankful they were open as we dined on a public holiday. They charged an extra 10% because of it. This wasn’t a problem but it would have been nice to have been made aware of the additional charge up front, rather than when we got to paying the bill.

Rice paper rolls served with eye rolls. Great food, if only was served with a smile, decent response and not a frustrated, tired staff. Felt as if restaurant staff was troubled because they had 4 more customers.

Hanoi rolls were tasty. Not sure about the peanuts on the scallops. Pho tasty but daughter says it’s better from orange grove markets

We had a cracking meal here last night! The Bo Lac and Salmon Currie were standouts in a great meal. If you have not tried this place get amongst it!

Ordered takeaway . Food was fantastic and service was fabulous , I ordered duck roll and Ga Gin chicken . Roll was tasty and health , a lot of veg inside .one and only thing is very hard to find parking area .
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Wincing a little at the spelling of the name, I entered Phamous Kitchen with some trepidation. I’m not a big fan of Sydney’s Thai Foon of Thai Riffic restaurant pun names and I feared that Vietnamese restaurants were about to become just as Hanoi-ing... Luckily, in this case the name is simply a reference to the owner and chef, Thanh Pham. He lives in Bankstown - pretty much the heart of Sydney’s Vietnamese community - but has brought his cooking skills to bear in Balmain. The restaurant is situated on the highly competitive restaurant strip opposite Balmain Hospital and Gladstone Park. It slotted into the site vacated by One6Eight, just two doors away from another Vietnamese restaurant pushing a more traditional schtick. Gone are the...

As the name suggests, Phamous Kitchen is famous for good reason ✨

This place has spectacular food, truly amazing. Naturally, one of their signature dishes - the colourful crisp pork pancake took pride of place at the centre of my table and it was outta-this-world divine. Seriously....a MUST HAVE.

Accompanied with rice paper roll, lamb chop, tender seared scallop and Vietnamese iced coffees, lunch was amazing. This was plenty of food for 2 people (would've even fed a third!). I'm so glad I finally had the opportunity to try it after obsessing over all of the delicious photos I've seen.

Owners Thomas & Kate take pride in their modern twists on beloved Vietnamese classics, and Phamous Kitchen has become a real Balmain favourite because of their creativity and passion for cooking and maintaining such a beautiful restaurant.
Spooning Australia
Two inconsistencies in the food saw Phamous Kitchen lose some points but the food that hit the mark smashed it out of the park. I will return for Khot and if I lived near Balmain Hanoi rolls would be a staple of mine. If you want some good gourmet Vietnamese food in the Balmain area give the peeps at Phamous Kitchen a look in.
Full review is now up on Spooning - enjoy and have a great day :).

Pulled pork pancake with sauerkraut, Asian BBQ sauce, herbs, picked onion and goats curd. Love the gluten free menu at phamous kitchen. This pancake was on the specials menu not on the regular menu, so it may not be around for long.
Snapshots Of Food
Escape the hustle and bustle from the CBD and take a short bus ride to Balmain for the day. While there isn't much more to do than your typical suburban shops and cafe's - one stood out to us and be sure to visit Phamous Kitchen on Darling Street. The food and service is equally as great but it's who you are with that makes the whole dining experience special. Phamous Kitchen is a Vietnamese restaurant with a modern and creative flair.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
Phamous Kitchen is a vibrant, fresh Vietnamese restaurant which brings a modern take on the traditional cuisine to Darling Street in Balmain. Even though it is surrounded by great food, Phamous Kitchen had a steady flow of people dining, even on our mid-week visit. The decor is welcoming and bright, while maintaining some of the elements of a traditional Vietnamese restaurant, like wooden beams and embellished tiles.
The Next Rush
A great display of reimagined Vietnamese couched in great service and a nice central homely atmosphere. The Pulled Pork pancake was not on the menu and a newer addition which is highly recommended!

Thankfully the Balmain dining precinct is faring better than their football side the Tigers. With a number of standouts, including the Contemporary Vietnamese restaurant: Phamous Kitchen. Phamous is a licensed venue and it has a modern fitout to match the food they are serving. The staff are passionate about the restaurant which further adds to the experience.
The RnB Diary
Balmain is rich in cafe culture but not typically known as a destination for Asian food. This may be about to change with the launch of Phamous Kitchen. Two young men who have known each other for more than a decade embarked on an endeavour built on their friendship and entrepreneurship. One in charge of the kitchen and the other the front of house, their modern interpretation of South East Asian cuisine has not only impressed Balmain locals but also made our trip there worthwhile.
Coffeebrunchanddinner
Phamous kitchen is about to be famous in Balmain. This place is a serious contender for our favourite restaurant in a suburb that boosts a lot of eateries. The Vietnamese fusion dishes on offer here are a feast for the eyes and the tastebuds - with a lot of options coming as dairy and gluten free it has something for everyone.

We started with the Hanoi rolls. A crispy roll of mixed veggies with crab and pork meat - this was flavoured well with their dipping sauce, giving it both a crunchy and zingy kick. (GF)

We followed this up by sharing the pulled pork, sauerkraut and pickled onion topped with spiced Asian BBQ sauce and on a fluffy gluten free pancake. (GF - and if you take the goats curd off it's dairy free as well). This dish was huge and had a mix of flavours that just made it heaven to eat.

We finished off with my favourite - crispy skin duck in a tamarind sauce and a side of rice. The duck was succulent on the inside and had an audible crunch on the outside, however, the hero for me was the sauce. The tamarind sauce had a mix of sweet and spiced herbs that made it tingle the tongue with every bite. I would order this everyday if I was able.

Drop in, say hi, have a delicious and creamy Vietnamese style coffee - grab a meal and then repeat weekly.

I'm not very adventurous when it comes to Vietnamese food but I was given good recommendations when ordering and loved every dish I chose. This restaurant offered friendly service and outstanding food. The rice paper rolls were so tasty and a fabulous starter. The papaya salad was oozing with flavour and an excellent dish to share and the Penang Curry Tofu was something I would definitely order again as it was unbelievable. I highly recommend Phamous Kitchen 😍 As I absolutely loved it.

Had a really 'Pha'-bulous dining experience last night at Phamous kitchen in Balmain. I'm always a fan of Vietnamese but this is beyond compare to what I have experienced before, eating Vietnamese in Sydney (and the UK). The recipes of Vietnamese/Asian/Western fusion are original, surprising and inspiring. Great, friendly service and very clean, well presented restaurant and décor. Perfect for the health conscious too with GF, DF and VG options aplenty. No lack of taste.

Cavernous, minimalist space of odd retro fitted timber to an otherwise bland room. Bright lights, over exuberant staff, no music, this place has zero atmosphere. Patrons arrive, but are so emasculated by the timidity of the place, even the rowdy are quiet.

We start with duck San choi boy with shiitake mushrooms. Quite pleasant. Then wagyu beef with betel leaves. These are truly horrid. They've been rolled and deep fried, losing all of their natural fragrance. They look like bizarre dolmades.

The kids pad Thai chicken arrived. Pleasant, even without peanuts. Next the sambal prawns arrive. Large fresh prawns, quite delightful, only spoiled by the excessive prawn paste in the mild chilli sauce. They smelled of under carriage.

And the crispy pork belly pawpaw salad to finish, which is fresh and flavoursome, albeit overwhelmed with fried shallots.

The place has no feeling, no atmosphere. The disparate dishes are hardly Vietnamese, being a confusion of all things south East Asian.

Pleasant(ish), but we can do better.

Nice atmosphere. The service of the waiters are nice. And the food taste good. The location is nice but I think the speed of food delivery is a little bit slow. And I cannot tell what exactly the cuisine is, very fusion. But still good restaurant!
