Had a couple of drinks and ordered the CheeseBurger on New Years Eve. The only thing that beat the Cheese Burger was the Fireworks!! Love the outdoor seating as well.

Perfect pub spot for when you catch the balmain east ferry as you walk straight past this place on your way to and from the main area of darling street. If you want to avoid the hill from the ferry to the pub then just jump on the bus. Street Parking is also readily available. The east village hotel has an excellent outside area and plenty of craft beers to choose from. The food here is over and above your average pub feed - I don't usually go for a salad but at this place they are highly recommended. Go for the chicken avo and prosciutto salad it's $22 but a large serving with quality ingredients - the smoked trout salad is a popular option aswell. And don't worry they also have your classics including the Parma, rump steak and of course plenty of burgers to choose from. Top spot for a meal or even just a drink on your way to the ferry wharf.
Tuesday night $10 burger night. Burger was pretty good, chicken cooked well and flavours were simple. I got the per peri chicken and couldn't complain. Partner got a chicken shnitz which was much the same. Nothing to rave about but if you were there, you could eat without feeling rorted.
Beers were all fantastic. The place is cosy and old school.
We caught late afternoon ferry from Luna park and got off at Balmain East. A few hundred meters of walk along Darling Street we reached East Village Hotel, the first of many pubs you encounter along the high street of Balmain. East Village Hotel takes pride in its large selection of craft beer in a suburb that has the largest number of craft beer drinkers according to Timeout. I was glad to find my favorite beer Stone and Wood on tap. I wanted to order some snack as well but was told kitchen didn't open until 5pm. The pub has very nice dark timber table and chairs complemented by artistic wall paint and dim ceiling lights. It felt warm and cozy. The staff were very friendly and apologized for the delay in the serving the drinks and no food until 5pm. At a quick glance the menu looked very inviting. I could definitely have a few things from this menu. Hopefully we will return soon and spend more time here.
Great Meal. This place is a refined pub feed with all the usuals. Burgers, Parmas, Steaks and fish and chips. However, they just do it better.
We came here on a rainy Sunday and scored a table near the fire - very cosy! The lamb roast was excellent - tender juicy lamb falling off the bone, moreish roasted potatoes and pumpkin and tasty beans and broccoli. My friends had a very generous entree of salt and pepper squid and some crab cake thing, both of which they enjoyed. My hint - eat in the bar which has a lot more character and a much lower probability of someone's rugrat shrieking in your ear ..

If you head right to the end of Darling Street and past the No Through Road sign, you’ll infiltrate the favourite hangout of the East Balmain locals. The newly refurbished and renamed East Village hotel offers a tasty, fun and friendly night out. Put yourself in the hands of bar manager Red to help you choose which of the 13 beers on tap you’ll try. The list includes a strong range of microbrewers, with even more choices by the bottle. Or try one of the special event beer and matched food dinners – next up 5 courses 10 beers hosted by the 'Beer Diva', Kirrily Waldhorn and the 'Beer Snob', Dan Hampton. Wednesday night is delicious half priced muscles - oops mussels (1kg Spencer Gulf.) There’s entertainment too - like pub quiz or poet Muz - if you pick the right night. Crikey!
Great burgers. One of the best burgers I have had in Sydney. Have been here many times and it always tastes the same - love their constancy. Oh and they go down great with the selection of craft beers.
Best beef burger I have had in a very very long time. So good, I brought friends back two weeks later for another one. Highly recommend it!
Pretty busy and family packed this Sunday, worth booking! Consequently a bit of a wait for food (40 mins) but worth it. Had the slow roasted lamb shoulder and curry, both well portioned and delicious. Good selection of light beers but needs more variety of stout!
I've gotta say it, these guys totally have the edge over the Riverview Hotel. Since they became the East Village Commercial Hotel, we've never had a bad meal here! Thank goodness they did away with the Belgian Beer Café (which served rubbish food incidentally).
There's a fantastic beer garden out the back for those beautiful Sydney days and if it's raining, come inside, they'll put the fire on for you.
It's a bit out of our way but it's worth it every time.
This is a lovely addition to the Balmain pub scene. My wife and I had lunch there over new year with my in laws and their fish and chips is some of the best going around. Lining up for Wednesday mussels in a weeks time.
Very unassuming from outside but we went on in and had some great beers and lovely mezze. Slightly pricey but not as bad as Brisbane so very happy.
The crowd wasn't what I was expecting - we were the only table without kids! The outside area feels like you're sitting in someone's backyard, so it's rather relaxing. They do traditional pub grub with some less obvious dishes. I had the chicken parmigiana, which was much better than the usual tomato sauce and cheese fare. The sauce was fresh and zingy, and the chicken was served on top of a deliciously creamy garlic mash. My husband had the mussels, which came in a wild mix of flavours such as blue cheese etc. They were quite good but somewhat overpriced. The dessert was the best part - a perfectly warm melt-in-your-mouth brownie with what tasted like homemade ice cream and a yummy nutty sauce. Would definitely go back just for the brownie!
The Beer and mussels here are always fantastic. The level of service is high even when they are flat out. Recently visited Belgium and tried mussels with moules frites, they were nowhere near as good as the ones from the Belgian beer cafes in sydney. Eat mussels and drink tasty beers here, you'll like it.
