Review Hungry Bull Co. - Balmain

Tony Cosentino
Amazing staff, know you by name after 1 visit and the coffee is roasted on the premises and is a nice medium roast which leaves a tonne of those flavours for us black coffee lovers but still great in milk coffees. And the food is fresh and delicious. Highly recommended.

Dropped in to the Hungry Bull after pulling some laps at the nearby Dawn Fraser Baths. This was a great choice for breakfast. Nice funky feel and good service.

My local for the past few years. Steve and the rest of the staff are super friendly and hospitable, always happy to answer any questions I have about ingredients and have a selection of vegan-friendly options. Best coffee in the area too, they know how to make a killer oat flat white! Free wifi and pretty comfy to sit and work in as well. Will miss it when I move away soon!

The staff, the service and the coffee in Hungry Bull makes it our go to spot and also one of the best in Balmain! If you want a warm service and spot on espresso, this is the place to go. Not to mention some seriously delicious french toast.

Have been coming here for years and this place is consistently great. We love the Turkish coffee and breakfast options. Staff are super friendly and there is lots of dog friendly seating outside.

Love this place. Small and rustic, but relaxing and comfortable with a very good staff and honest food and coffee. Also try the ANZAC roll - so good.

Came here for coffee on a hot 37 degree day. Strong smooth latte and aircon, just the caffeine hit and fresh air I needed! A prime example of their amazing service: the waitress noticed a child looking droopy from overheat and she asked how he was feeling and offerred him icewater to help with the heat.

Nice cosy cafe in Balmain. I was a little surprised when I walked into the shop, there were a bunch of knick knacks every where which I loved. I ordered a caramel latte, and Turkish eggs. The latte was really good. The Turkish eggs took me by surprised. It was cold and tasty, served with Turkish bread to dip. Only issue I could fault was the eggs were slightly overcooked.

Dog friendly, rustic cafe with a nice menu selection and counter display of cakes and other sweet treats. Order and pay at the counter and one of the lovely waitresses will bring out your food and drinks. The bacon and egg roll was top notch as was the coffee.

This is where all the fine lookin yummy mummys seem to hangout on the strip and most likely because of the great coffee here. Could my cappuccino BEEE and more fluffier?

A tiny coffee shop in Balmain that serves great coffee.  We popped in for some coffee and sweet stuff late one afternoon.  The decor is ye-olden-day-wood-come-hessian-sack which is cute and creates a nice ambience for a casual coffee.  It's an order and pay at the counter system and our meals came quick.  They have a range of cronuts, pastries (sweet and savoury).  The cronut could have used a little warming to soften it since it was a cold day, but is was pretty tasty none the less and the spinach pastry had a lovely flaky buttery texture. My freshly squeezed juice was excellent (no pulp and good quality oranges). This is obviously a local favourite with plenty of customers in the half hour we sat inside.  Worth the trek there for the coffee alone!

People often only write reviews when they have a bad experience they want to get off their chests, but in my case, I couldn't disagree more with the negative reviews Hungry Bull has received. You have to order and pay at the register and the staff's homely attitude towards customer service takes some getting used to, but if you're not in a rush and willing to have candid conversation, then this is a refreshing break from the usual, distanced experience. The coffee is fantastic, they have a simple breakfast and lunch menu that is affordable and tasty (currently a brioche roll with bacon egg and cheese is $7, where down the road it's $12) and they don't charge extra for soy milk. Their juices are not going to blow your mind, but they are cheaper than elsewhere and the stuff behind the glass is a bit pricey, but overall, this is a beautiful little cafe with caring and friendly staff and coffee and food that won't disappoint. Give it a go, and leave a review!

Worst cafe experience EVER! I don't write reviews, but I feel compelled to because my experience here was SO bad. Our coffees took 20 minutes. Our food never arrived. We were over charged. And to top it off, their "antique" chairs rusted all over my outfit. There are so many wonderful cafes in Balmain... Skip this one and go elsewhere!

Bad Experience.<br/>To start with it is not clear where to line up to order.More like two awkwardly competing lines in a confined space.<br/>They are unsympathetic to those who don't have cash and want to spend below $10 on eftpos. No bank card surcharge or any such compromise. I got the impression they just wanted to fleece you for everything you had. I ordered a coffee and pointed to the table my friends and I were sitting. I also ordered some food. The waiter confusingly brought me and me only a take away cup while they had mugs. They charged an astonishing $6.95 for an orange juice which was to a large extent was just water and ice. I asked for some butter with my banana bread which they agreed to but then did not deliver. <br/>In summary I would have preferred to go to McCafe than this place. It was Expensive, there was rude customer service and average food/ coffee. I am never going back.<br/>Balmain needs better cafes!

Quaint, themed and very cool, this little coffee shop says one thing, "these guys know coffee."<br/>Staff were friendly and quick to help and with a plethora of sweet options and a selection of savouries this won't be the last time I visit this Balmain haunt!

Very average.<br/> Came here for a Saturday lunch. The interior and ambience was nice, felt like you were in a time capsule of by gone era. However, the service was non-existent considering there were hardly any customers at the cafe. The food was slow and very average and bland. Won't be coming back any time soon. It's such a shame! Hoping to write a good review.
