Review The Fenwick - Balmain

A beautiful sandstone restaurant with a beautiful view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The food was delicious and the portion is just right. The right portion allows guests to enjoy a 3 course meal without feeling too full! The atmosphere was very nice and the customer service was great! It can be difficult to find parking but you can always catch a ferry because the restaurant is right next to the wharf!

The Fenwick has an amazing location with a beautiful view of the Harbour Bridge so it's a great choice if you are after some photos. The food was yummy and very decently portioned - we left feeling stuffed! The cocktails were also good and the staff were more than willing to help with choices. Overall, a lovely dining experience.

This restaurant was next level. Absolutely fantastic location with spectacular views of Sydney Harbour and the beauty of the exterior stone work of the building. The food was first class on every level - presentation and taste. So many wonderful foods to explore. We were fortunate to be here for a friends birthday and was treated to a banquet having a full experience of many of the delicious treats on the menu. Will definitely be back for another experience of this fine establishment. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

An amazing gem of a restaurant. Lovely vibe and ambience. The exceptional part was the service, thank you for such a wonderful lunch. Thoroughly recommend the Gnocchi and will definitely love to return for a dinner experience. Best of luck to all of the team there in 2022.

Amazing location and a beautiful building. The view is almost unbeatable. The food was pretty solid and the service was ok. Probably not to the level I would expect considering the amount of staff that were working. I’d definitely give it another go though!

I will start this review by saying. WOW, we loved this place. Service, food and view was superb. We got looked after by Elliot and he was phenomenal. Elliot was respectful, genuine and thoughtful. Suggested plates for us and they were very tasty. The manager and the staff inside are overly nice and on the ball, big smiles and always made sure things are going well. 10/10 for service. Views, we sat outside and it was a beautiful day. 10/10 view. Food was seriously appetising, delicious and flavoursome. Seriously every plate we got was amazing. Desserts were amazing (def need to try them). 10/10 food. The combination of exceptional service, great view and delicious food, definitely puts this place on my top 5 it not top 3. Well done seriously. Highly recommend this place. Tip: make a reservation over the phone or on the website.

We went for dinner on Christmas Eve and had a lovely time. Views are amazing and we were lucky enough to have a window seat! Dinner was lovely, with a lot to choose from. It would have been even better,if they offered a traditional Christmas dinner option. It's not cheap, but a great experience! Catch the ferry if you can, it brings you directly to the door step and is a beautiful route to add to the experience.

I went to The Fenwick for lunch with my wife. The stone and timber interiors along with the charming facade felt like we were transported back in time. TL;DR: A charming place with a wonderful view and service. The food is good but does it have its fair share of misses. Too pricey and not worth the money if your table doesn’t have the view of the Darling bridge and city. For the detailed version see below: We ordered 2 entrées, 2 mains and 1 dessert and in hindsight our order feels quite seafood heavy. Entrée: Kingfish ceviche with crispy sweet potato, lime & spicy mayo —————————————————————————————————-———— The fish tasted wonderful and was melt-in-the-mouth perfect. The size of the cut of ceviche was spot on and the fish was super fresh. I am not a fan of mayo since I believe the cream in the mayo ruins the delicate flavour of the fish. However, in this case when the lime mayo is paired with the sweet potato crisp, it leaves a gentle lime after taste which works very nice with the ceviche. The dish also had softly cooked diced carrots which soak up the creaminess from the dish. The dish also had thinly sliced onions which just did not work. The sharp flavour of the onions (uncooked) conflicts with the whole theme and that put me off. A perfect dish had it not been for the onions. Entrée: Duck terrine with pickled beets, grapes, chicken liver pâté & balsamic vinegar —————————————————————————————————-———— I liked this dish. All the components worked well together. The liver pâté was a genius touch and elevated the flavour of the dish. The texture of the minced meat worked very well with the crunchy texture of the beets and soft texture of the grapes. My only complaint was that the terrine was not fatty enough, which is what made me order this dish in the first place. Mains: Barramundi with beurre blanc, asparagus, herb oil & black olive crumb —————————————————————————————————————— Perfectly cooked fish with beurre blanc is a match made in heaven. And this dish hit the brief. The fish was soft and yummy while the beurre blanc was absolutely yummy. I barely noticed the olive crumb until I consciously went looking for it. Lack of crispy skin was a big disappointment. Dessert: Mango colada with miso sable & coconut lime ice cream ———————————————————————————————————- This dish tasted okay. I probably liked it but I could not understand how a mango cream is reminiscent of a “mango colada”. The mango cream tasted quite good though. The flavour of the miso did not shine through in the miso sable. The coconut lime ice cream tasted amazing. The service was wonderful. The waiters never jumped in when we were in the middle of a conversation. We were not kept waiting for food or even for our refills of sparkling water. Despite its share of misses, the food in general was good. The selling point of The Fenwick is the iconic view of the city and the bridge. If your table does not have the view, the food doesn’t do enough to keep you coming back for more.

This is rubbish. Fathers Day menu, limited to 3 x selections, all pre-prepared, sitting on the bench as you walk past. Bacon pre-cooked & dry, sausages pre-cooked and raw, scrambled eggs dry and horrible. Fruit platter and bakery items certainly weren’t baked this morning - the tiny muffins were disgusting.

This is the Fish Markets at Easter - not worth it.

I know Corona has been hard, but the efficiency based cost cutting is reminiscent of Subway.

Yuck.

This beautiful restored sandstone building boasts stunning views of the water & iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge. Inside, it feels open yet cosy, spacious & inviting. The food was beautifully presented & delicious. The oysters were sweet & plump, the seafood dishes fresh, perfectly cooked & delicious. Service was friendly & attentive. A lovely place to enjoy, celebrate and relax.

Parking in Balmain, even at its far reaches, is a nightmare; so, if you intend to visit The Fenwick, and live somewhere where a ferry to the Balmain East Wharf is an option, take it. You’ll find the restaurant inside a magnificently restored 1880s sandstone building right on the harbour’s edge. The two-storey building has timber-framed double goods doors that hark back to its former use as tugboat storage by Fenwick & Co. when Balmain was a hub of maritime industries. Being cold and windy on the day I dined, they’re firmly closed downstairs, which with the wooden rafters, gives the lower, banquette-lined dining room the appearance of high-end stables. Following what little light there is upstairs, we enter into...

Magnificent recently restored sandstone building perched on the harbour’s edge, with a billion dollar vista of the harbour bridge and city. Breathtaking. We’re seated quickly, ordering some Ruinart Blanc de Blanc to kick off the festivities. Not a cloud in the sky.

Service is slow, which for a compulsory exit time to turn the table is unnecessarily stressful. Champagne glass thrice empty, bread slow to arrive, kids entrees don’t arrive.

Food pretty tidy, albeit mostly safe noughties cliches. Burrata with figs and prosciutto the pick. Mains arrive en song, with a delightful Cinsault rose.

Another mix up with kid’s dessert. Coffees order taken with desserts, again rushed. No sooner had we received the dessert plates on the table and the bill is presented. “Get the f@#k out”.

$800 for 4 plus 2, I expect more. Pleasant, certainly, but good, or great - no. Not close.

Oh, did I mention we were rushed?

More staff, more training. Then, maybe.

******************

One year on;

This is rubbish.
