Review The Workers - Balmain

Words cannot describe how aggressive and vile the security are at this venue. Not only did security push a peer of mine down the stair case of their venue, but management showed a clear lack of care regarding the situation. We attempted to contact the venue but were immediately dismissed by rude and hostile staff, who accused us of lying about the events. This is not the first complaint that the venue has received regarding security being violent. Workers should really consider how they treat their customers moving forward, because this is entirely unacceptable. Also the food sucks, and the place reeks. -1000/10

My friend was treated extremely violently by security at this venue. It was shocking and when we brought it up with management, they yawned in our faces. Management also told me I should grow up. Do not go here if you value your safety

Security and management have literally no respect for the patrons who attend this venue. So rude and hostile. Cannot express in words how much I recommend you do not go here!

Charged entry on a Friday night to literally the most disgusting dingy pub, been here 5 years ago and it was so fun and classy but it’s gone massively down hill since then

Love the Swinging Sundays. Decent food at reasonable prices

Great band and wonderful music in an authentic atmosphere with a stitched on crowd of knowledgable Jazz fans. The drinks are very reasonable and there's pub food for the hungry. What more can one ask on a cold Sunday afternoon...5 stars.

This place could be great. The room is interestingly decorated and there isa nice outdoor area. There is also a great range of drinks. The downside is the attitude of the staff. It is close to my house and has potential so I keep giving it another go every 6 months or so. Every time I leave thinking that the staff have little interest in customer service. They are disorganised, are more interested in talking amongst themselves than engaging with customers and seem very arrogant. It is a real shame as this place has great potential. It may be that at 45+ I am not the target audience and the 18-25 age group from where the staff are recruited like this style.

Thought the place was great after a night of fun and dancing until the security guards took a power trip in accusing my partner of stealing his own jacket. Had to show photos to prove it was his at which the guards overlooked and pretended as though nothing had happened. Saw the guards do this to the girl before us and called her vile names and a thief as she got in a taxi. Instead of keeping a calm situation calm they try to irk a reaction out of people who are drunk at the end of the night. What happened to security guards being the voice of reason?

A great place to visit especially on Friday afternoons although as the hours pass the place gets busier and busier so be prepared for busy times.

Staff is friendly and food is consistent and good.

Popped by for some drinks on Saturday night and loved the outdoor terrace. Got a lot busier as the night went on, which was needed to improve the atmosphere.

So bad!. A friend had booked a group of 30 people for a Saturday night. There was over an hour wait time for a burger. People waited and waited. Over an hour later no burgers. People left the special event planned to eat elsewhere. I got a refund and went home. My friend waited 1.5 hours and got her burger but said it was raw in the middle, cooked on the outside and obviously not defrosted properly. When I asked for the refund the manager said they didn't anticipate the number of people for a Saturday night. I think they just didn't plan properly for it. It was booked and everyone was sorely disappointed. There really weren't that many people at the pub so I don't know what the deal was. One friend said the burgers were really bad and to just grab a McDonalds on the way home and it would be better.

I had the pleasure of delicious burgers and great company at the Workers Bar and Kitchen. The Workers work their magic on Sunday with their $10 burger and fries. The pub is laid back with a lot of trendy youngsters drinking beers and playing giant jenga. If you're looking for a quick bite to eat to accompany a few beers then I'd definitely recommend dropping by on a Sunday. I would definitely recommend the chicken burger. Its described as the "Buttermilk fried chicken breast, avocado, lettuce, tomato and smoked chilli mayonnaise". Delicious!! A crispy coating on the chicken was perfectly matched with the thin, salty fries. The beef burger was delicious as well but I just loved the chicken burger. You can expect bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato, beetroot, onion, pineapple and BBQ sauce on the workers beef burger, also $10 on Sundays. The workers is a nice casual pub. Check it out some time :) Prices: $10 burgers/fries on Sundays, normally $15. Other food on the menu is about $20 Contact Details: Phone: (02)9555-8410, Email: ellie@theworkersbalmain.com.au Opening Hours W / 5pm - 12am T / 5pm - late F / 5pm - 3am S / 5pm - 3am S / 12pm - 10pm

The Workers located in Balmain celebrated their 1st Birthday and we head back to the Balmain area (here just days prior for craftbeerweek at the Welcome Hotel). The workers with its pick and hammer logo is up the stairs along Darling Street. Its fairly non-descript so you have to know what you’re looking for. Its a great looking modern pub. Pic below showcases where it sits. Sandwiched right between Balmain Wine and Zumbo. Good company. Neon Logo betrays its modernity. Red Doors Modern typography, a yak head make up the bar area. Its quite on trend. Look up and you’ll see these men staring down at you. A look across the room. There’s largish communal tables and also Louis the XII mod chairs scattered around. The upstairs area of The Workers is a large space with exposed services and rafters. It is quite impressive with a nice bit of Greenwall. There’s a nice outdoor area to the side Of the various signages around in there, the Yolo one is great. That’s a real green wall. 1st Birthday P
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
At a time when the Labor Party seems to stand for little more than getting back into power, this place harks back to the days when it used to stand for something: the workers. It’s guaranteed to bring a tear to the eye to anyone who remembers the glory days of Whitlam, Hawke and Wran.

Even in this candy coloured environment, the vibe for Abby Dobson is relaxed and low-key at her free Thursday night Red Door Set. The crowd is a collection of upwardly mobile couples, mostly straight and moneyed, with a raggedy bunch of older singles sipping beers. Women seem keener on exploring the reasonably extensive cocktail list, offering options like the High Tea ($16) bearing house-infused chamomile and vanilla gin.

The highlight of my month was a rousing speech by Bob Hawke at The Workers launch party, which reminded the gathered faithful of Balmain’s true roots as Australian Labor Party heartland. The funky setting is like a cross between The Norfolk and The Abercrombie, with a little bit of Astroturf Melbourne rooftop thrown in. The crowd, which included a swathe of local television stars from All Saint’s Michela Noonan to Underbelly’s Roy Billing, were also treated to a live performance by Tim Freedman from The Whitlams. We were kept from getting too drunk on Ben Johnson’s (Lo-Fi) clever concoctions by samples from their Mexican finger food menu – yep, more tacos, sliders and jalapeno poppers. Owner Patrick Coughlan was right on the money when he declared that here “locals really will get the experience that has been missing from Balmain.”

The workers works for me. Had my bucks night there the saturday that just went. the professionalism and patients of jeremy and his staff was awesome. made sure we were well looked after and the place itself is so relaxing, perfect for many occasions. food was well priced and reasonable as well. 5 stars for it's versatility.

Went to the Workers on a Wednesday night and can't wait to go back. Great food! (Especially the jalapeño poppers, fried chicken and tacos) and I had one of the best rum old fashions I've ever had. Bar team are friendly (which is rare) and they did everything they could to accommodate the large group I was with. Great to finally have a decent bar with a good feed in the inner west!

Not for vegetarians, but a good atmosphere. The menu says on the front that they will make you anything you want . . so we asked if they can make the taco's vegetarian. No. They come as they are. Can they make the halepeno peppers vegeratian? No, they are premade. So my vegetarian friend had a choice of chips, or Spinach and Ricotta Quesedila (what were they thinking?). So she pretty much had to go hungry.

The Workers looks great, the atmosphere is fantastic and the outfit is really good for Balmain. We went there last night (saturday night) and it was very empty . . about 12 people there. The cocktails were very good . . the Wine list was a little "special" ($1200 bottle of red . . in "the workers" . . anyone?)

The normal taco's we did order were pretty good. The Chicken, Beef and the Prawn Taco were nice . . but The fish taco was just a piece of chip shop style fish battered heavily and put into a taco full of veggies (why they cant have just taken the fish out and made it vegetarian?)

Anyway, it was a good price for the food and good cocktails, but dont ask to change anything on the menu . . and dont come if you are vegetarian.
