The food was amazing, our group all chose different meals and they were all so delicious. Great thing was - they were all a variation to what you may find on the typical brunch menu. As amazing as the food was - the service was too. We never had to ask for more water top ups - it was always brought to us - even on a busy Sunday. Totally worth the drive to visit.
Amazing food, great atmosphere, excellent staff, this is a well oiled machine! Had the mushroom stack of course, which is off the charts yummy. When I ordered, the staff member listened to every detail of what I said including delivery of a tea at the exact time of almost finishing my meal. No one gets that right. Perfect experience. Bravo.

Such a lovely cafe in the heart of Balwyn! A must order is the crispy eggs with ham hock, and apple & walnut salad served on toast. Also had a lovely and authentic chai latte were you strain the tea leaves to get the full flavour.
Can’t wait until we can dine in again as I’ll be back to try some of their new menu items!

My salmon was cooked perfectly. The beetroot was nice complement with slight fresh sourness. I enjoyed the house-made dark rye which I used to place some poached egg, salmon beetroot and hollandaise sauce. All the ingredients. Although it was a light meal it was very satisifying as the portion was good.
Amazing hotcakes in a cute little cafe!
FOOD: After lusting after these hotcakes for the longest time, I got to try them and they were simple but so well done! Sometimes, the best things are the least exaggerated ones and that’s what Mr Hendricks did. Their hotcakes were simple with 2 hotcakes, some double cream and a loooad of fruits (which must mean it’s healthy right? 🤪 we’re just gonna forget a whole load of cream and hotcakes oops)! The texture of the hotcake was crispy while being super soft on the inside and the hotcakes really shone through which is what made this dish super duper special ❤️

Had breakfast at this cute little cafe yesterday morning as a catch up with the girls. The coffee was delicious, could have been slightly hotter but was good! I ordered the smashed pumpkin, gluten and dairy free which was delicious and something different from the usual smashed avocado! Was plenty of parking in the area and seating both inside and out! Loved this cute little cafe and would definitely visit again!
The food was pretty good and it has a nice lay out. The staff were friendly too. Overall decent experience and decent eastern suburb brunch spot.
The quiet ambiance in conjunction with the friendly staff and delicious food is the creation of a truly exquisite cafe. The two dishes, a Salmon breakfast and the Hot cake were both well made and unique in creation.
The Salmon breakfast included a pound cake with a cinnamon taste as well as kale, apples slices, parmesan cheese and dates scattered across the salmon. The poached eggs were coated in mayo and added to the taste of the dish.
The Hot Cakes were different to the ones made previously however ensured a hard crust enveloped in a soft and fluffy centre. The decorations of flowers added colour as well as the syrup and fresh fruits placed on top of the cakes.
Definitely a cafe worth a second visit!!

It's a great cafe no doubt, but it's not my kind of cafe, I can't give it a bad review simply because it's not my type, the food is cooked well and coffee is great.
Lot of the menu doesn't interest me however and if you're into your big breakfast of eggs, bacon and sausages give this a skip, majority of the menu is based around health fad items (avo, kale, sweet potato etc.) So I was left disappointed but nonetheless it's a good cafe
Always love the vibe and outdoor setting. Dogs are very welcome here and on multiple occasions where I have come here there has been a dog or two sitting outside.
The salmon breakfast that I most recently ordered was very interesting. I wouldn’t recommend ordering this as the yellow sauce is very sour.

We were lucky enough to try Mr Hendricks this morning for breaky for the family and boy did it deliver! Serious coffee, great kids food & drink options on the menu as well as beautiful healthy options for the whole family! (don’t get me wrong, there were definitely unhealthy items on the menu as well).
Now with winter almost upon us having the back door open meant that the icy wind quickly chilled the inside of the small cafe so it might be time to crank up the inside heater

I’ve got to say, I really love the turmeric latte here! It’s just the perfect balance and temperature. We ordered two! Coffee is good as well.
Food wise, the portion sizes are generous and good value for money. The chia pudding does need a bit of work with flavour though. The berry compote was drowned out when mixed with everything else.
Meanwhile, the ambience is very comfortable with seats indoor and outdoor (front and back courtyard). Staff are friendly too.
Came here today for brunch. It was quite busy which is expected on a Sunday morning. I ordered the mushroom with scrambled eggs on sourdough and a soy chai latte. My other guest had the pulled pork burger. I really enjoyed my meal and the soy chai latte was quite nice with just the right amount of sweetness from honey. I pinched the sweet potato fries from my brunch guest as he doesn’t like sweet potato. They were perfect with honey drizzled on them and they weren’t deep fried to a crisp which often does spoil it at other cafes. Overall a super enjoyable experience and I will be back. It was a warm day and we sat outside, was surprised that the little mist sprinklers were turned on to quite high but was enjoyable as it was quite warm. Not sure why they were turned on, but I enjoyed the water to cool me down. Other guests not so much!

Came to Mr. Hendricks a few years back and fell in love with their lobster tail roll. Quite sad that they no longer have it and now have changed it to a soft shell crab roll but oh well! I recently tried out their: crispy eggs with sweet potato puree, smoked ham hock, cos lettuce, bacon crumbs, ranch dressing on sourdough toast. Yum! It was like a fancy caesar salad. Coffee was really good and came out extra hot, just the way I like it! The table just by the door to go outside the seating area is not an ideal place to be situated as people tend to leave the door wide open. Because of this, a wind tunnel would form and cold gushes of wind would get to you. Perhaps a sign to remind people to keep the door closed at all times would help?

We meet Mr Hendricks and boy were we pleased. Easy and convenient location, Simple and well styled. Outdoor seating was just perfect on a beautiful sunny Melbourne's day. The dishes came out they were well constructed and all the elements so well made and bang on with flavour. I love cafes like where chefs have constructed a good menu and delivered. Been here twice and not disappointed with Crispy Eggs at all. Hollandaise sauce was one of the better ones I’ve had too. Burger was on the other hand not as great- slaw was dry and so is the chicken, nonetheless, flavour is there.
Coffee was great too. Ask to sit at the back as it gets really noisy in the cafe itself.

Lovely, quaint cafe tucked away in suburbia. Friendly staff, cozy and warm environment, smooth coffee and tasty food. The crispy eggs dish is inventive and delicious. The crisp around the eggs is so thin and crispy but does not fall apart. The cos lettuce san choy bao is excellent. Overall, a great dish on the breakfast/brunch scene. Prices are average. Will be back but you do have to wait coz its so popular.
Mr Hendricks is a lovely restaurant. The outdoor area is spacious, and heaters and umbrellas ensure it’s the perfect place to have lunch on a rainy day.

Food: I’ve been coming to this place for years, and their food has been consistently outstanding. Value is fantastic as the portions are pretty big, especially when compared to usual brunch fare. It would be nice, however, if they had some food intolerance / allergy-friendly options on the menu.
Some items on the menu come and go, depending on the season. Dishes I’ve tried:
• Prawn & corn fritters: crispy exterior and flavoursome interior. The density of the fritters is balanced by the fresh salsa and oh-so-smooth avocado. The chilli jam is sweet and absolutely divine.
•Soft Shell Crab Roll: the roll is dry, but the soft shell crab is great. Not greasy, but light.
•Salmon Breakfast: I found the dish a bit heavy with so much sauce, eggs and salmon, all relatively rich ingredients. However the salmon is tender and cooked to perfection.
•Crispy Eggs: What can I say? A cult favourite.
Drinks: They do excellent coffee, though their chai is pretty average.
Service: The waitstaff are always friendly and attentive. Food and drinks come out promptly too.
Definitely a café that holds up to its high ratings and reputation!
Mr Hendricks rarely disappoint. You know you will have a fulfilling meal, leaving satisfied. Beats having to travel to the city for a good brunch meal. Great for something close by in the south eastern suburbs. Bring back your lobster burgers from a few years ago, pretty please ?

I've been wanting to try the chocolate french toast here for ages and boy I was not disappointed. It was absolutely delicious and something I would definitely order again. The crispy eggs were recommended to us by our waitress (as we had trouble deciding on a savoury dish), and that was also quite tasty. Service was good and the courtyard out the back was nice, so overall a great brunch experience!
Went here for breakfast this morning, I had the mushroom scrambled eggs and a hot chocolate. I thoroughly enjoyed them, the gluten free bread was really yummy and the staff were very polite and accommodating.
Small venue. With the bad weather everyone was crammed inside. We opted outside under cover - it was cold but bearable. Drinks were nice but didn’t stand out. The crispy eggs was something s little different, a new version of a Caesar salad. But the stand out was the cassoulet. Perfect for a cold day. Super cosy and flavoursome. We added hash browns and once the bread ran out we used them in the mix. To die for! Would return when the weather is nicer.
It’s a 4.2. I’d been wanting to come here for years. Mr Hendricks has a great reputation and it’s well deserved. It’s well managed and has excellent food, coffee and wine and terrific service. It’s quite a large place with a nice outdoor area. It does a busy trade though. The cassoulet was recommended to me and what a sound recommendation it was. Good flavours and overall a very hearty, well flavoured and tasty dish. My companions loved their dishes as well. Service was lovely throughout. A bouquet to the venue too for the Quealy pinot Gris. Always a nice drink. This is a very well run cafe which does all the fundamentals well. Recommended.

Friendly staff greeting on arrival. Sunday noon time does require much waiting. Probably due to showers in the morning, they closed a section at the back but the time we arrived they reopened. Great presentation on food. The place is quiet, easy to find car park for two hours. Coffee is tasty, not too strong.
Pros: food and drinks were tiptop! The flavours of the crispy egg dish (that snapworthy oozing egg yolk video didn't disappoint) complemented very well. The crispy chicken in the burger was uniquely seasoned and ranch salad was refreshing. Chips were on point (similar to Grilld chips). The coffees were rich but the icecream in the iced mocha.. that was something else, it had a distinct taste to it and was so creamy fresh.
Cons: a larger scoop of icecream would have been nice :)
One of my go to cafes ! The space is quite small and it’s usually always very busy . The crispy eggs is my all time favourite dish, sort of resembles a deconstructed Cesar salad 😍
I have been coming for a few years now, but less than impressed with the recent changes. I have noticed that the portion size has become significantly smaller and the staff has not been as attentive. There also has not been many changes to the menu this past year, which has been rather disappointing.
This is a pretty good cafe that make my friend and me feel really relax and comfortable. And not only did foods look delicious，they tasted great，too.

- Salmon breakfast was huge (perhaps a bit too big :p), tasty and full of ingredients. The salmon had some bones in it, just something to note. The house made dark rye was very unique. Eggs were perfectly poached, and had the slightest hint of vinegar
- Latte was perfect, at the correct temperature, and not too bitter while not being too weak.
Overall would recommend and will return in the near future!
A little adventure over east yesterday saw a friend and I try out Mr Hendricks. A cute little cafe on Whitehorse Rd with great reviews. We were pleasantly greeted with great coffee and a delicious menu. After indulging over Easter, we both went for the avocado on toast. This is however, not your usual smashed avo. The avo toast comes accompanied by pickled cucumber, green bean salad, edamame and wakame. I was sceptical at first, but really loved how all the flavours worked together. I added the poached egg, which worked well with the dish. Whilst a little out of my way, it's definitely an option when heading out east!

I am so enthusiastic to go for brunch on sunny sunday in Melbourne. No need to wait or booking for the place,you can just walk in. The place was nice, the staff was really helpfull too and the food was delicious as well! I ordered chocolate french toast(there is melted chocolate milk inside the french toast :p), chai latte and pork hock brioche! Enticing menu, gorgeous dishes and a cosy courtyard. Mr Hendricks ticks all the boxes for a relaxing afternoon brunch. We had the salmon and fritters. The service was fast and both dishes came with generous servings.

We checked out Mr Hendricks for the first time for lunch and really can’t fault it. We tried the Crispy Eggs, the Chechen burger and a side of chips. It was all so delicious, generous and perfectly cooked. Coffee was on point too! We can’t wait to come back.

Second time coming here, as I just couldn’t get enough of their delicious brunch options the first time round.
Mr Hendriks cafe has a large outdoor seating area- which we were able to take advantage of during a warm, sunny day.
We opted for the Mushroom Scramble and the Salmon breakfast. A more healthier option, the Salmon breakfast was presented to us on a large plate, beautifully constructed. With 4 generous slices of house made rye bread, salmon, eggs and a handful of greens, it was quite possibly the most healthiest but tastiest dish on the menu! Although, at some points we felt like the greens were just too much, and slightly overpowering all the other ingredients on the plate.
The mushroom scramble was delightful! The combination of eggs, chilli, feta, mushroom and fried shallots contributed to a very satisfying and tasty meal.
Would recommend getting the caramel milkshake. It’s not overly sweet, just the right amount and is very creamy.
Portions of the dishes are also huge! We left the cafe feeling super full.
Lovely seating areas outside, the waiters have great services, very polite and quick in taking our orders. Lattes are alright, the food came in about 10 minutes after ordering. Croque madame and salmon breakfast would definitely recommend, the rye bread is fantastic. The pork belly salad is so so, especially when you had a lot of Asian food, not very special. But overall, great experience!
Mr. Hendricks is by far one of my favourite cafes that I’ve reviewed so far. The service is friendly and prompt and the venue is beautiful. I chose to sit in the courtyard at the back of the cafe, which was a wonderful way to enjoy my meal in the sunshine.
I ordered the Chocolate Brioche French Toast ($19.50) whilst my friend ordered the Prawn and Corn Fritters ($20). Both of our dishes were absolutely delicious, and believe me when I say I savoured every bite of my chocolatey French toast and those gorgeous dehydrated blueberries.
Overall, I’ve got to say that i was really impressed with Mr. Hendricks. It’s incredibly high rated and I can see exactly why. The food was flavoursome and well presented, the venue is spacious and the service is excellent! I’ll definitely be coming back to try everything else on the menu 😉

We ordered the soft shell crab roll, crispy eggs and a strong soy latte. Although we found the charcoal brioche roll from the first dish to be a little tough, the soft shell crab was very meaty, juicy and just overall, very enjoyable. The crispy egg dish was near perfection. The ham hock in particular was soft, tender and melted in our mouths. We also ordered rosemary chips which were crispy. Coffee was also good.

Came back here for the first time since new owners had taken over and we were pleased with our experience. Salmon breakfast was great and coffee was excellent! 👌🏼 We got perfectly poached eggs, which is always a sign of a good cafe (although would have liked to see some more interesting presentation as my dish looked quite boring). We sat outside the back - great vibes and attentive service!

Smooth, beautiful coffee and flavour-packed food! I was very impressed by Mr Hendricks Cafe, having popped in on a complete whim one Saturday afternoon. The menu is extensive and every menu item came out of the kitchen looking like an instagram post brought to life. The outdoor area is also super cute and perfect for a hot summers day.

The avacado on toast and crispy eggs are worth to go for while the pork belly salad tasted more like Vietnamese food (chose it because it was the least reviewed dish), and it is just not so much of the kind of food I am expecting for brunch. However, the overall service was good.
They have a nice backyard to make people enjoy the brunch. The must have ones listed on the web are yum. Like the eggs and prawn.

Fried Signature egg was great, overall experience was good provided that they had a very clean and organised environment.
Healthy food choices and great cafe, although I would prefer heavier flavour for my taste buds but this is an excellent choice for people who are after fresh and healthy foods.
Croque Madame was nice but quite salty due to the terrine. Fried egg was overcooked so didn't get to enjoy the runny yolk with it. Famous French toast was gigantic. Ridiculous serving size - you literally get half a loaf of bread. Share it between at least two. I didn't find it as good as the reviews here suggest. In fact I wouldn't say I liked it. The brioche isn't that chocolatey and ours tasted burnt. That leaves the flavour of caramel, creme anglaise and blueberry.
Service was minimal, not too impressed since it was so quiet. We were seated at a communal table right next to a business meeting. :(
Three years since my last visit to Mr Hendricks and not much has changed - excellent in every way from the food to the decor to the atmosphere. Mr Hendricks is a stand out for decor and atmosphere with an amazing outdoor area out the back. Highly recommend asking to be seated out there no matter the weather. The service is also great and pretty fast, drinks were out within 5 mins of ordering and food soon after - so don't worry if you're hangry because it isn't a long wait. It just the perfect vibes for brunch!

Service was great - we were served promptly, given a seat inside while waiting for a seat in the courtyard. Courtyard was beautiful and one would never want to leave🤩🤩 I loved how the staff were flexible wth seating, remembered that we were keen on a courtyard seat and didn’t mix up our orders after the move.
Ordered the crispy eggs - heaps of pork on my fork! Unfortunately the sweet potato purée didn’t really work with the dish for me. And I struggled to enjoy it.

We visited Mr Hendricks on a weekend, it's always been in our wishlist and we are exciting to see what the cafe deliver. Fun fact this Cafe is full of posh Chinese students and families maybe that's a typical Bawlyn...a good queue out there we waited about 20 minutes to get inside not bad I'd say.
Service is a bit duh, as soon as we seated the guy who served us behaved like a shark, he circles around eyeing you and your menu, he picks up a menu like a shark tears down his prey. I feel a bit stressed tbh hard time for me to read my menu.
Food comes reasonably quick, Prawns on charcoal bun is nice and hot, crunchy and light weight fresh apples and celery cleanses my palate very nicely balanced refreshing dish. Porridge looks and tasted pretty average and chips are okay, not the best we had though. Coffees are typical coffee w nice latte art but not the most memorable coffee we had.
So where is the hype for Mr Hendricks? I dunno. And what is the hype? Do not ask me. It's just like another cafe maybe something outside of an average smash avo but my advise is don't travel too far for them you could be disappointed.
Beautiful food, fast service. Like seriously the food comes out so quick it’s amazing. Usually it takes awhile to go to any cafe on a weekend but Mr Hendricks never fails. And even if there’s a wait, it’s never long anyways.
Great cafe that does great coffee, nice food that caters to all types, with friendly staff that were nice to my family. Highly recommend this place. I liked the outdoor eating area in the back. Staff were friendly, patient and helpful. Food was well portioned and delicious!
Mr Hendricks is one of my favourites.
We often have brunch here. My scrambled eggs (a little too runny for my liking), bacon and tomatoes are all always cooked to near perfection - and the bacon I particularly like and is certainly better than what is normally served in other establishments. Likewise my partner's poached eggs, spinach and tomato on gluten free is also of a high standard. We can't fault the coffees - piccolo and cappuccino rarely disappoints (just don't go near closing time- we did once and the coffee was very ordinary).
The outdoor area is very pleasant - indoors can be a bit claustrophobic. Noise is ever present.
Other likes - the steak knives which helps with cutting bacon and thick toast. The gluten free bread is excellent.
Service very good.
We ordered mushroom scramble, porker belly salad and Chocolate ... french. Every dish is creative and tasty. Chocolate french is so yummy. They have very much coffee too. Will try more dishes next time!
Busy Sunday brunch meant a short wait at the window seating before we could be offered a spot. While it was a cold day, sitting out the back in the courtyard under cover and with heating was more than comfortable, it's actually pretty cute outside and the set up is comfortable. The front space is super cozy and its a bit roomier out the back. We had the signature crispy eggs + mushroom scramble (with massive side of avo), washed down with a latte and a fresh juice. Service was prompt and helpful and happy for dietary considerations. The food came out super quick, as did the drinks, and everything was delicious. We even scored rockstar parking right out front. Great on all counts.

Mr Hendricks really is an unexpected treasure in Balwyn. I’ve had their rice porridge dish and fritters before which were both delicious, but for my most recent visit I went all out and ordered the chocolate brioche French toast!
It came with blueberry poached pears, dehydrated blueberries and vanilla custard. Surprisingly, it wasn’t too rich of a dish. The actual consistency of the brioche was so fluffy and light and any sweetness was perfectly balanced by the slight sourness of the fruit. The vanilla custard provided a nice, creamy texture addition and again, wasn’t too sweet. Definitely one of the best sweet breakfasts I’ve ever had! The coffee was also really good, and the staff are very efficient and know exactly how to handle the rush periods. Definitely a local favourite of mine.
A really cute and trendy cafe this place is. Coffee is one of the bests out in the suburbs and service is excellent. Really enjoyed my Saturday brunch last week... highly recommended!

A very popular cafe diner. A little bit crowded indoors when it gets busy but has nice outdoor area in the back. There are queues around lunch time on weekends and potentially any other day if it's raining.
I have tried everything on the menu - a unique range of dishes that don't overwhelm you with added flavouring, just the taste of nice and fresh ingredients. Crispy eggs is probably the breakfast staple among its customers I would say. Although the menu is always updated to provide new and improved dishes over time.
Visited this cafe at the start of school holidays . Quiet in the front , but packed in the nice sunny courtyard.
Ordered the coconut milk rice pudding with seeds nuts and buckwheat puffs- delicious with stewed rhubarb . Not overtly sweet, by just right . Rice was cooked perfect aldente. The generous serve was well balanced , not to tart or sweet .
The chilli scramble on gf toast was good, generous serving , eggs were great. The toast was good artisan gf dench? However toast should never be buttered-this should have been on the side as a side dish !!

We ordered breakfast cassoulet, prawn roll and salmon breakfast. Generally it is a bit overrated, the food there tastes good but I felt quite thirsty afterwards. I had the prawn roll, maybe the fried prawns have a lot MSG.
My friend's breakfast cassoulet is a bit salty. Also, the prawn roll has all it's stuffing in the charcoal bread looks great! But it's a bit messy while having it. The salmon breakfast is quite balanced with rich fibers vitamins proteins and saturated fat...
