What's our no. 1 tip for the best experience at Arthur Radley? Before we get to this, if you’ve just left the excellent Palace Cinema and you’re wanting to chill and chat about the movie, we recommend Arthur Radley a few doors down (237 Whitehorse Road) and, yes, the shoe is meant to be outside. While it’s a popular venue and is full of people, Arthur Radley is able to maintain a relaxed atmosphere.
We enjoyed the steak sandwiches and fries! Partner suggested that it would have been better without rocket. I disagree though, the addition was welcomed with me.

As soon as you walk in the door it's a warm and friendly neighbourhood place.
Great staff headed by the personable Anna who is always friendly and makes you feel welcome. We had the dishes of the day.... Fish Pie which was delicious and not a gluggy white sauce in sight. Also the risotto was mixed mushroom.. porcini, swiss brown and taleggio.
Then another friend had pappardelle with slow cooked beef cheek. Thanks to Arthur Radley's consistently good chef Janeece. Delicious lunch and a great vibe. Always good to go there for lunch, dinner or a drink after the going to the nearby cinema. Thanks ladies!
Thought I’d try this place for breakfast and wasn’t disappointed. There weren’t too many people surprisingly given how good the food was. I ordered just a simple scrambled eggs with mushrooms and grilled tomato which was fantastic, probably one of the best I’ve had recently. The coffee was good as we’ll. I’ll definitely be back again.
We decided to have our bookclub Christmas/end-of-year celebration here at the recommendation of a member who had previously dined at Arthur Radley. Of course as a bookclub, we loved the idea of going to a book themed restaurant!
We were not disappointed! Everyone enjoyed their meals, the wine was great and the service couldn’t be faulted! I had the fish special; a rockling fillet with caramelised onion tart. I wanted to lick the plate clean!
The atmosphere is lovely. Homely, comfortable and not pretentious. Lovely bookish touches and the TKAMB theme throughout. We will return! 😊👍
Cosy place. Staff are friendly and helpful. The food - great. Diners at other tables were complimenting the staff on the meals they had ordered. I had spatchcock with kipfler potatoes on pureed sweet corn. It was a shame the meal had to end.
A cute little cafe/restaurant that turns my favourite book (TKAMB) into real life. Have been here a few times, and have to say breakfast/brunch isn't too special but dinner here is terrific. Haven't been for a while but they have a lovely back area and very cosy and artistic ambience. You can tell that the owners and staff have invested a a lot of passion in the details - everything from the menu to the interior design seems to have been well thought out.

I came here for a brunch one day. The venue is so quaint and make you feel like you're in an old mansion. I got the smoked salmon with polenta and poached egg. The polenta was nice a creamy and I enjoyed the dish.
We held a baby shower at Arthur Radley for 10 people recently, and from the time of booking right up until the end of the event the service was just wonderful. The food is simple but well done, perfect poached eggs, great coffee, and a nice cosy ambience. I highly recommend for brunch or dinner.

Great space. There are 3 different dining areas so even if it looks busy out the front still try and grab a seat because there may still be plenty of room. The outdoor dining area is covered so there is plenty of shade. I love the food and coffee. My favourite is the braised rabbit pasta!
Friday night before the movies. We dropped in here on Friday night just before the movies and were thoroughly impressed with the service, the food and the ambiance.
Sharing a couple of starters, a wine, a champagne and then coffee was a great way to top up before we walked to the Balwyn Cinemas a few doors down. My wife is a hot chocolate aficionado and claimed it to be the best she has tasted - (it was a lovely bitter Colombian mix from memory)
It was our first time here and I can see it being a regular spot if it is a s consistent as our first visit.

The perfect match for a movie! We had a spontaneous dinner that surprised us rather nicely.
Great atmosphere and very attentive service. Good range in both the food and wine list. My seafood risotto was delicious (one of the daily specials) and had a super nice oozy texture to it. We will be back again and soon.
What a find!. Our group of 3 ate here last night and were so happy we discovered the place just a few doors down from the Palace Cinema. The staff were very accommodating , friendly and efficient. We bypassed entrees and sampled the eye fillet, duck and risotto and they were all declared delicious! For dessert the chocolate and macadamia puddings were a hit, lucky I shared mine! Wines are available by the glass with very good local and imported varieties on offer. Definitely will return to this cosy bistro again.
Fantastic French themed dinner pre-Xmas 2013. We were looking for a venue at which to hold a function for French speakers to enjoy an end 2013 celebration and also enjoy French themed food and wine. Anna made great suggestions including having aperitifs in the outdoor courtyard area before moving upstairs to the private dining room. The menu was translated into French and Janeece offered some inspired menu items. Generous platters of entrèes were shared, followed by fantastic mains and enormous macarons with coffee. One of the staff spoke French well and was able to add an extra touch to the occasion. Thank you so much Anna, Janeece and staff for making our night a great success. My favourite restaurant. Arthur Radley is conveniently located just a few doors up from the Balwyn Cinema, making it a great place for pre and post theatre dining. It is also a great venue for catching up with friends over a light lunch or coffee, or an indulgent dinner. The meals here are made with LOVE. You can truly taste it. The resident chef, Janeece puts all her experience, expertise and passion into everything that she creates. Some of her delights include the delicious crab meat spaghettini, lamb/veal shanks that melt in your mouth and the decadent choc and macadamia pudding, just to name a few. Her culinary specialties are constantly changing – no stale menu here! The service team, led by owner Anna, is top-notch, always friendly and professional. Go Arthur Radley! You are my favourite restaurant.
My favourite haunt!. Happy 1st Birthday Arthur Radley!!! One year on, and the standard has never dropped since my very first meal there. I have brought local and overseas friends along, and none have ever been disappointed. The meals are consistently delicious, creative and classy, and the service is always friendly and attentive. The Specials menu changes regularly according to the availability of seasonal produce, hence the food is always fresh and of high quality, and are sourced from top suppliers/producers. Superb dining. I cannot speak highly enough of this restaurant. The cuisine on offer is delicious, creative and inspiring. The menu is regularly refreshed and offers a wide variety of exciting dishes. Patrons who have frequented this venue would be hard pressed to forget the theme which depicts the movie 'To kill a mockingbird and very tastefully done. The staff are friendly and take a genuine interest in ensuring their clientele go away with a memorable and enjoyable dining experience.
I have been here a couple of times. Once for dinner and once for coffee. It's a hidden gem in balwyn. Great vibe and the food is fantastic! The staff are very approachable. Head down the back to the outdoor area and grab a few sharing plates and chill out. Will definitely go back
Fantastic. Took friends to Arthur Radley on 8th Feb for dinner. This is my third experience at this restaurant. The waiters and waitresses always greet with a smile and this service is carried through to service of meals. Our meals were all tasty with beautiful flavours. The desserts were to die for, especially the chocolate and macadamia fondant. I will definetly be returning and I have no hesitation and taking friends/family knowing that I will get a meal that is prepared with fresh ingredients and served by friendly and warm staff who are alway eager to make the evening a pleasurable one.
Warm, friendly and yummy. Decided to pop in for dinner after the movies and found the place to be a hive of activity. The staff were friendly and very knowledgable, especially about their varied and unique wine list. For dinner, I had the fish, dory on a potato cake. It was superb. My friend had the scampi and loved it too. A great place for a night out and so handy to the cinema! You may need to book on the weekend as it was full!

Excellent Restaurant. My husband and I had dinner at Arthur Radley last Saturday night and were so pleased that we decided to dine at this wonderful new restaurant. We had initially seen a movie and as it was time for dinner and we didn't feel like walking to collect the car, we decided to give it a try (the cinema is virtually next door to Arthur Radley), so perfect location if seeing a movie. We dined in the 'back room' which, to our surprise was beautifully furnished, warm and plenty of activity going on as the kitchen staff prepare the food. I loved this room and didn't seem at all like a 'typical back room' that a lot of restaurants have. They have created a lovely ambiance. The two owners are both lovely ladies, one being the chef. From the moment we sat down, the waiter and waitress were both friendly, welcoming, well groomed and almost excited, which gave us a lovely comforting feel. We didn't have an entree, but we both ordered the Sword Fish which was absolutely delicious. I couldn't resist the chocolate pudding which I devoured and allowed my husband to have a small portion!. If you are a To Kill a Mockingbird fan, you will love the photograph of Gregory Peck who plays Abicus Finch in the movie. Licensed only, so we wish that we could take our own wine, as some of the wines were rather pricey at $40 for the less expensive red. We will definitely be back and will come with friends very soon. Went in for breakky. The lady was very accommodating- we had a stroller . Ordered coffees, juice, eggs Benedict and a full breakky minus eggs (allergy) and all food and drink was excellent except the rosti- a bit strange in flavor. Such a lovely environment, so clean. Will go again!

Trust your tastebuds, you will love it. Taste is a funny thing. What one person finds bland, another finds too spicy. I have been to Arthur Radley's several times for lunch and dinner and I have always enjoyed the experience. In fact I was just there this past weekend and had much the same dinner as reviewer Mr Ho (July 4, 2012) and I was amazed at his findings! As he is a proclamed expert on American and Moroccan cuisine, I am bewildered by his comments. I think that he ate at a different restaurant than me! Whilst I am not Moroccan, I am American and can confidently say that there was nothing wrong with either the buffalo wings or the ribs (of course if his point of reference for good american ribs is TGI Fridays then need we say more!). Both were tasty plates that I enjoyed with a nice cold beer. As for the lamb ribs, well I don't actually remember them being sold as authentic moroccan cuisine. I just thought that they were great nibblies. Oh well. Just goes to show that you need to try the food for yourself. Don't let all of these new Masterchef inspired food critics convince you. Trust your own tastebuds. I think that you will be rewarded. P.S. the warm, funky atmosphere and friendly staff is a nice bonus!

Beautiful Breakfast at Boo's. Before a movie next door, my girlfriend and I sat down for a breakfast at Arthur Radley's. First off, we noticed the fabulous decor, loving the picture of Boo behind the counter, and we wondered if the food would match the design and atmosphere we were already enjoying. We were led out the back to a lovely little courtyard, heated and undercover, and sat down to browse the menu while the waitress brought us coffees, a great blend that was at just the right temperature. My girlfriend ordered the Eggs Benedict, while i went for the sweet option - the French Toast. It turns out the food does live up to the setting - the French Toast was delicious, with ample bacon and maple syrup as well as fresh strawberries, a scrumptious way to start the day! My girlfriend is a Benedict princess, always noting when the Hollandaise isn't made from scratch or tastes off, but she had nothing to complain about here, saying the sauce was exactly the way it should be - freshly made and creamy. We both noted the quality of the bread used in the meals, not some store bought average loaf but a nice, crisp, hand baked and cut sourdough. The staff were very attentive and friendly to boot, giving us nice smiles, greetings and farewells. Overall this was one of the best experiences I've had eating out in Melbourne, and to find a gem like this in the Balwyn area is rare. My girlfriend and I both decided we're coming back for seconds as soon as we can, hoping we can try the lunch menu which looked amazing on our way out.

What a find. Booked into see a 6.00pm movie at the Balwyn on a Saturday night - hopped on urbanspoon and found Arthur Radley with 94% - could this be so good? YES YES YES
My two friends had half a roast duck each which were to die for and the baked lamb was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. Staff were extremely pleasant, service was superb. Would like to have seen a few more Australian wines on the list but then I am just one of those parochial type customers!
Really not interested in deserts, but to satisfy our persuasive waitress, we took a look and next thing, the three 'small' spoons on our table were joined by the most delicious chocolate and macadamia soft center pudding served in a cup with yummy vanilla ice cream on the side - absolutely decadent and well worth the money.

New Balwyn restaurant. My partner discovered this new restaurant today and we are thrilled that something new and fashionable has opened up in Balwyn- a traditionally dry and quiet area. The staff and owners are lovely and we really enjoyed the food. They have a selection of tapas style share dishes and a few hearty (well priced) mains. We shared the stuffed zucchini flowers and spicy chicken sausage and followed it with the osso bucco and grilled swordfish, both flavorsome and well-cooked. There is a funky court-yard that we plan to go back to for a quiet Sunday afternoon drink sometime soon. Dining in Balwyn is finally starting to look up!
Just what I needed!. Have just found a great new place near the cinema, that is worth going back to. Authur Radley has a great feel, and the staff are young and refreshingly good. The coffee is very good and the parfait was a winner. This place is terrific for a quick drink before the movies, and then perfect for dinner afterwards. The menu looked good and other diners were enjoying their dishes, so I will be going back often. Thank you, this is just what we all needed!

What a wonderful evening! Went here for my wife's birthday. Read a couple of reviews and took a punt - so glad that we did! Perfect interpretation of what a European bistro is all about - beautiful food, lovely ambiance and as comfortable as eating in your best friend's kitchen. Definitely recommend Arthur Radley to others and will be back again soon! Thanks Anna for a soul warming dinner!

Came back for the second time in a month and couldnt go past the porter house steak again! SO GOOD. So delicious - crisp exterior and perfectly medium rare as requested inside. Calamari as entree was not only generous enough for four of us to share - but talk about melt in you mouth too - with a delicious green pickle condiment. Mmmmm. Chips, salad - everything. Oh I forgot desert... Chocolate pudding, creme brulee and apple tart? Lucky I hadn't ordered a desert but had a spoon to try all three...
What a delicious restaurant! Everything we ordered was fantastic. Atmosphere was lovely and service was great too. We definitely will be returning!
