Review Thanks A Latte - Balwyn

Community vibe with nice cake options. Coffee is not that great anymore, which may be due to different baristas. Anyway, a local girl runs this place and they have a fun and cheerful outlook. The interior is lovely, and the word board tends to be topical, changing regularly. They cater to kids, ppl with dogs, and are supportive community needs.

Moving back from Perth to Melbourne I'm reminded why I miss Melbourne so much, firstly ACTUAL REAL COFFEE crazy to think it's so hard to get a decent coffee over it the west. Nice cozy place with plenty of seating outside. Awesome little place where I can sit back have a smoke and enjoy my latte. Highly recommended and will definitely be returning again soon

Having been coming here semi-regularly for a year now, I found this café to be really consistent with their great service and quality of food and drinks! Love their coffees, hot chocolate, and given my recent obsession of Chai, I have discovered their Soy Chai Latte to be absolutely worth sitting down and enjoying. This café has since been my go-to for when I need a place to sit and chill, read, or work on my laptop. However, they haven't got wifi, so come with your own!

Not the best treatment I have ever received in a Balwyn cafe. I ordered a flatwhite and a cappuccino for myself and my wife as well as a babyccino for my little son. The lady left the babyccino on the table for my son and asked my wife and I who is the flatwhite for and who is the cappuccino for. At the same time we were teaching our son to say thank you. The lady was not patient enough for 10 seconds delay so she dumped the two cups on the table and left us without answering the "thank you" said by the 3 year old.

I came here with a friend and got a hot chocolate with two marshmellows. It was lovely. Perfect temperature with two delicious marshmellows. The sevice was amazing. Very kind. I love this place. Will come again.

Scorching hot coffee. Could barely hold my cup (take away) and had to wait a while for it to cool before drinking. No real reason for it, it was quite quiet when I went through. No eftpos minimum was nice to see, however.

Great coffee, food made inhouse... yummy! Been coming for years... always good... lots of newspapers...

Excellent coffee. Double shots and brownies and almond cakes are must haves.

Nice Balwyn cafe that looks like it has a great breakfast and lunch selection. I ordered the pie and side salad which was really good. The pie had a delicious crispy pastry a creamy filling of chicken and leek.

Been a local, I am always on the search for a good coffee on the go and Thanks a Latte is probably not my first pick!

The decor in the establishment is nice and has a classic retro look, but not so much to say it looks past it's time. The staff are friendly, prompt and courteous.

The coffee is of average quality and neither exceeds or falls below our expectations. Being a shopping strip takeaway shop it is somewhat typical of what you would expect. Prices for food and deserts are steep. We ordered a pie with a coffee and the price was approximately $15. Again this pie was not made within the place and purchased that such a price is unreasonable in nature.

Generally for an individual or individuals which quality does not matter and the 'hipster' scene is not for you I would recommend 'Thanks A Latte'.

23/7/18: continental breakfast pic with an extra hash brown.

28th June 2018: seems like under new management. New staff friendlier than the previous. Had the soup of the day in the picture - seafood chowder. Was hearty and went down well, especially during winter.

Had the continental breakfast a little while back with some coffee. The breakfast is your usual morning comfort foods. The home made hash brown was the one memorable food on the plate. Definitely never had anything quite the same before.

You better shaped up .....

Classic late 80's early 90's cafe with a catchy name and signage, backyard seating area is probably nicer, unless it's raining.

Latte was ordinary and Hummingbird wasn't humming in my mouth.

Good service, but with fierce competitions around on Whitehorse Rd, Balwyn ...... "You better shape up,
Cause you need a latte .... JT-01/12/2017.

This cafe has been a favourite of my fiancé and I for years. Always fast and attentive service from the staff whether we dine in or get take away. We have also used Thanks a Latte for a large group of people, the service was still fast and efficient! They are great with remembering our favourite order(s) and we have never had a complaint about the quality of their food, always fresh. We especially like the house-made muffins, they're freshly made daily with real fruit - we find ourselves fighting over the last bite every time! Best muffins we've bought anywhere, really can't compare with anything else. Thanks a Latte are great with fresh juices, they will make any combination you like. Overall, a favourite place. Homey, comfortable and great for dine-in indoors or if you feel like a more relaxed & quiet area, the patio area out the back is great too. Thanks guys, keep up the good work!

Great cafe with friendly service. Salmon crepes divine. Omelettes, very good, as are salads. Busy, but not hectic, and easy to chat acoustics-wise.

It's my neighbourhood go to place for an enormous hearty pie. Especially when the weather is cold and windy, the thought of sitting in here with my flat white waiting for the huge, oven hot, perfectly pastryed and stuffed pie, makes me happy. Too happy perhaps, I burned my mouth every time:-)

Been here a few times. Great coffee, good service, courtyard at the back is spacious and comfy with a section that's undercover for those rainy days.

From memory this was a scrubs pun wasn't it? Anyhow, coffee is better than average and the breakfast is nice and big for the dollars. Wouldn't go out of my way to come back but would be happy to return when in the area.

Best place to get a huge brunch on a Sunday when your hungover af. I don't usually order anything off the menu, I just ask for things I feel like and they make it into something beautiful. The coffee here is good, and the service is good too

Coffee is normally ok, however, thought we'd try breakfast there. Probably one of the worst breakfasts we've had in a long time...bacon was burnt and the remainder was very unappetising. Give it a miss if you're after a good breakfast.

Average coffee and muffin. Nothing really stands out but a great location means we do end up visiting every now and then. Coffee is all right but the taste is average.

Chain smokers paradise! This cafe, is not fantastic. The staff have some work to do on both their personal friendliness and their food and coffee.

I sat outsized in the courtyard. Seems that this cafe is where all the chain smoking people of Balwyn go. Tried to enjoy a coffee here, but couldn't. There were cigarette butts all over the ground and ash over the tables.

Great to see that the staff also smoke. Both the chef and one of the staff members came out and proceeded to have a few cigarettes, while either talking on the phone or swearing and sitting with friends also smoking.

Coffee requested was a strong Cap and received a watery and burnt milk drink. Not impressed. On top of this one of the staff is serving food and drinks with a bad cough.
In a brekky obsessed city like Melbourne, Thanks a Latte has a long way to go if it wants to compete with places like Mr Hendricks down the rd. It provided and average brekky with slightly inflated prices. Sadly, it looks better than it tastes. Sadly I wont be returning

Good surprise!. Couldn't be bothered with the epic line for Laurent so popped into Thanks a Latté for a takeaway espresso...service was fast, friendly & my coffee was divine!

AT LAST. Can't believe my luck...at last...good coffee in Balwyn!

Won't bother returning, appalling service today. 'Boss' sitting down chatting in between having to help out the two waitresses run off their feet. Ambience totally lacking. Banana bread served with a side of melted butter that had had some cinnamon stirred into it. How do you apply that to the bread? I couldn't eat it but no one even bothered to ask was there something wrong? Met some friends later in the day and quite by co-incidence they told us they had a bad experience too. Lift your game guys, plenty of other great choices within walking distance - Mr Hendricks, Cherry Bean and Laurent just to name a few.

I recently had lunch here and was very pleasantly surprised! Not only were they not using the oh so Indie soy milk, BonSoy which in all honesty is awful (sorry to offend hipsters Melbourne wide) but their lunch menu was interesting and different to the stock standard we see in so many cafes at the moment. The staff were all lovely and very helpful. The coffee I had was superb and the food was amazing. I will definitely be going back
Girl Next Door
The freshly squeezed juice (orange, apple, pineapple & ginger) was lovely

Nice clean place, big improvement on what was here before (was very scary) a good addition to Balwyn, except they don't use Bonsoy, look at the top 20 cafes in Melbourne guys, they all use Bonsoy for a good reason, the blonde Barista is cute and friendly and makes a good coffee.

I'm taking a friend on Monday. Popped into the new Thanks a Latte in Balwyn last week, vaguely hoping to have a simple meal while reading 100 pages of Hemingway. Four easy hours later, due to the courteous and unobtrusive waitresses, I had dined through a delicious Beef Salad, sampled two sharp coffees, a pot of my tea, and been re-hydrated enough to read 250!!! They even watched my half-finished meal while I twice stepped out to move my car, to keep ahead of the parking inspector. The mood indoors was casual and friendly, and locals and others have obviously already made a chatting acquaintance with the staff, who seemed equally content to serve or to chat.
Finding a restaurant with the atmosphere where you can have an untroubled read, is rare, but the food was its equal - the sauce which the beef rested in left me licking my lips. I'm going back.
