Review Gia Hoi - Bankstown

Angel Zhang
Very tasty authentic viet food! The crispy chicken was cooked to perfection which paired well with the fresh vermicelli salad. My boyfriend enjoyed his combination stir fried noodles. Although the seafood was lacking - characterised by one prawn. Although the average cost ($15pp) is slightly higher than others in the area, the portion size is reasonably generous. That is, the stir fried noodles (alone) could easily feed two people. My partner and I weren’t able to finish our individual dishes, but we left the restaurant very satisfied. The wait staff were friendly too. We would be happy to come back :)

Decent place for hearty Vietnamese food, rebranded from Gia Hoi. The BBH we got wasn’t too spicy and the pho always hits the spot. One of my go to spots in Bankstown, been here quite a few times!

I love their spring rolls much. All the food are yum and enjoyable. Super huge portion & great value restaurant

The most authentic Vietnamese spicy beef noodles I have tried in Sydney. Only water spinach was missing, but that's understandable.

This is easily one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Sydney. Strategically located in Bankstown - plenty of parking. Very traditional and tasty Vietnamese food, decent price, good portion size. I've tried their pho soups, pork chops, fried noodles, crispy or grilled chicken rice. Recommended! 5/5 stars.

Best food! Best service! Prices have gone up but it's on par with Sydney. Still a budget eat that is delicious, fills you up and have enough choices for you to come back and try over and over. Recommend the avo shake!

The Caucasians seemed to be the last to be served. Beef soup - Average. Couldn't really enjoy because my nephew's crispy chicken didn't arrive and my brother's crab soup didn't have crab... Boyfriend didn't eat his soup as no-one else had a proper meal, but I. I hardly ever write a sad review (really prefer to be positive), but what a botched birthday dinner out that was for him (especially as a chef)..... On a plus side, they were busy! Good for them...

One of the best Vietnamese restaurants I have been in Sydney. All dishes come with great portion and they are both delicious and made of fresh meat and vegetables. Definitely recommend it to anyone who loves vietnamese food.

Service here is excellent. Food here is great and staff is very attentive. Lots of tables available, so wait time on a busy night isn't very long.I always order an avocado milkshake with my meal. Very nice.

We love this place, usually come here for the pho (beef noodle soup) it is so good and the service is really great. For the price the food is amazing so delicious! highly recommend.

Nice Viet resto serves typical Vietnamese cuisine with affordable price. We ordered rice vermicelli with the lot and it was really tasty. Price is good as well and many choices.

Try this restaurant around my area. Not disappointed at all. The noodle is great and the stir fry seafood amazing! Cheap and big plate of food. The chao Tom ( shrimp and chicken deep fried so good) must try! Also need try their ice chendol and avocado durian. The best!!!

I have never seen Bun Bo Hue (BBH) completed with beef before, which is interesting so I definitely had to try it. It wasn't too bad, I felt like if there was different cuts of the beef, the dish would have been better.
On the upside, this portion was huge and definitely worth the money! Probably the biggest portion I've seen out of all the Gia Hoi franchises.

Good price and tasty. I like their shakes here. My go to shakes here would be sour sop and avocado shake. Good healthy alternative to ice cream and still get that sweet dessert craving kick. Lots of tables and chairs. Like the rice paper rolls here too. Extensive menu. The floor is filthy here.

In reality 3.5stars

Flavour is there. Pretty delicious restaurant and the only place open late night around my area. There’s a great hint of ginger in the noodle dishes.

✅ Open late
✅ Big ass portions (great for leftovers)
✅ Quite wide, open-space restaurant
✅ Relatively busy before close
✅ Flavoursome

I like this chain of Vietnamese food. They have Nam Veng noodles which is a hard dish to find but even though they don't make it exactly the way I like it it's still not too bad and they pack a lot in the bowl . Food came out fast and food prices are reasonable

Pho is the perfect winter dish in my opinion!
Try something different today, the crab meat. Broth are thick, yummy and supper delicious
Also combo beef and chicken pho is just delicious.
And also salt & pepper quail, one yummy addictive dish!

Gia Hoi a great place to go to if you’re feeling viet food but aren’t after a specific dish. They have a lot of viet dishes which are done well and super affordable. This is my go to place for bun bo hue in bankstown too ☺️

Got the bun thit nuong Cha gio this time - it wasn’t the best I’ve ever eaten but definitely was tasty!
MizTea_SydneyFoodCritiX
The pho is good here, I must say that they could be a little more friendlier like the owner. He is so delightful to deal with. The prices are basically standard with competitors in the area

On every occation I dine at Gia Hoi I ended up leaving feeling super disappointed. Ive ordered all the dishes that supposedly they're famous for- various beef soup noodles, vermicelli, special rice, and stir fry noodles. One time their dipping sauce was so off it gave me a stomach. Other times the food was just not up to standard..not to mentioned i got served cold beef noodles soup once 😓

I think whenever I need Vietnamese food in Sydney, I will keep coming back to this one... All the portions were huge and tasty... My personal Vietnamese food favourite has always been the Rice Vermicelli with Fish Sauce... it was great the meat was tender and the spring rolls were freshly fried... Recommended all the way....

I went here with my sister and her partner for a late lunch while we were in Sydney's west. This looks like your typical no nonsense suburban Vietnamese joint.

We were hungry so we ordered a lot of food. My sister's partner ordered the rare beef pho, my sister ordered the wanton soup and I ordered the make it yourself combination rice paper rolls. We also ordered prawn rice paper rolls and salt and pepper squid. I didn't get to try my sister's partner's pho but he said it was good. My sister's wanton soup had a light pleasant flavour, this would be good if you felt like something a bit plainer. My combination rice paper rolls were really fun to make even though I was crap at it, the first one was actually my best hahaha. I liked that there were so many flavour combinations that you could make, my only gripe with this dish is it would've been even better with a variety of herbs instead of just mint. The combination spring rolls is also a huge serve. The salt and pepper squid was slightly chewy and not as spicy as we would've liked but it still tasted good. I had the prawn rice paper rolls for dinner that night and it was the same as other rice paper rolls in Australia (a bit bland).

I also ordered the custard apple and jackfruit smoothie it was delicious but after I drank it I realised there was a custard apple smoothie which I would've preferred. The staff here were mostly friendly, there was one woman who wasn't as friendly as the rest. If I was in Bankstown I'd probably come back here.

Pho is not my only favourite here but avocado milkshake is thumb up too

Pho with avocado milkshake (prefect match)

Gia Hoi got many shops across Sydney but I only like the one in Bankstown. Staffs are friendly and foods are the best among all

A famous Vietnam restaurant in bankstown. I love their spicy beef noodle soup and spring roll. The portion of them is very big and the taste is so delicious. And staff are friendly too. I love it

Good value for the portions, decent hearty warm soupy meals for cold weather. Meals were nothing out of the ordinary but can definitely recommend the Vietnamese iced coffee. Not many cafes or restaurants do a good mix of the coffee but this restaurant nailed this drink 👍🏼✨

This is my local Vietnamese restaurant I go to regularly for my fix of traditional tasty Vietnamese food. Good variety of dishes that are very fresh and tasty. My favourite dish is the sugarcane prawn with rice vermicelli you can make your own rice paper rolls with - delicious each and every time. The crispy chicken with tomato rice or noodle soup is also a must try! Highly recommend this restaurant.

Decided to take a huge gamble today and visit Gia Hoi over my favourite place in Bankstown serving the same thing Dong Ba. Sadly, the gamble didn't pay off and in fact resembled my first experience here many years ago. Simply put, the soup was not flavoursome enough for their signature Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Chilli Beef Noodles). The soup lacked richness, and aromats to give complexity.

It was a shame because the place looked very clean, the service was friendly and efficient and the noodles came out in record time. The bowl was huge and the quality of the ingrediants were spot on and the noodles were not overcooked as Dong Ba sometimes does but as with any Vietnamese noodle soups, the hero lies in the soup and without a good stock, the the rest is meaningless.

The Hanoi crab and shrimp spring rolls were fluffy and crispy aided by the rice paper pastry. The filling of black fungus, vermecelli had notes of fresh prawns which was reassuring as many restaurants take short cuts with spring roll fillings. Sadly, there was no crab flavour and it was served with bottled sweet chilli sauce which was a pity as this one one of the rare Vietnamese restaurants left that serve the full condiments of mint, lettuce picked carrots and radish with their spring rolls. Although a matter of taste, I personally think some simple nuoc mam (classic Vietnamese dipping sauce) would have topped off this authentic dish.

The ice coffee was on the mark though.

This is one of our family to-go-for Vietnamese place. Authentic and flavoursome food, generous serving and fare price. This place is always packed with people, but worth the wait :)

My pho was so-so this time, size was good but I just wasn't feeling the noodles or the ingredients all that much, it's like the pho didn't lift me the way it should have, this place does have a good vibe when seated though
Bye Gia x

If you're going to chose to eat at Gia Hoi, I would advise eating at the Canley Vale one. This Bankstown store is so cheap on the noodles and meat. The bowl looks huge, until you delve in and find you could probably finish the bowl in two or three bites. Also, the broth isn't as flavoursome.

I've tried the bun Rieu, hu tieu and the egg noodle soups... All to be very average and slightly bland. I would rather eat something else here or go elsewhere.

However, they make nice rice and vermicelli dishes. My favourite is the grilled chicken. Very highly marinated but very succulent. The boys eat this dish when they want to treat themselves to rice and chicken.
Sugar Coat My Life
As the first part of our cheap eats series, we’re starting off with one of the cheapest places you can eat at in Bankstown – a melting pot of cultures with Vietnamese cuisine as authentic as you can get in Cabramatta. Gia Hoi is located amongst a string of Vietnamese restaurants on Chapel Rd, but it stands out with the bright orange sign and lit up interior.

Ordered the bun bo hue. The serving was large, and food came out within a couple of minutes. The broth was full of flavour and the various meats in the bowl were delicious. And the fact that it didn't hurt my wallet was the icing on the cake. One of my favourite places to eat.

Huge servings, quick service! Share an entree and main between two if you are not big eaters!

One of my new favourite places for a quick pho or crispy chicken! The service is quick (and what you'd expect from an Asian restaurant, nothing fancy or overly polite mind you...).

The pho has great flavours and it is not as 'dark coloured' as some other places. They are not stingy on the lemon or sprouts either. I could see pieces of meat balls, beef, beef balls, tripe and tendon in my soup as well as onion. However, you always have to ask for fresh chilli (does not come complimentary).

I also tried the prawn & pork rice paper rolls and the Crispy Chicken Tomato Rice. Again, delicious although felt a bit lacking. Maybe the sauce?

Great staple Viet restaurant. Would come back. And I love their complimentary tea - it has this fragrance to it that makes it unique.

This place is always full just like Dong Ba which is just across the road. Their most famous dish here is Bun Bo Hue. As you can see in the photo the bowl is massive. The content is equally explosive. Their Pork Hock is so so so good, I would highly recommend their special (dac biet) version to every one. I think their Bun Bo Hue is slightly better than Dong Ba and very close to the one in Pho Tau Bay. IMHO Pho Tau Bay provides a more soulful stock but Gia Hoi's Pork Hock is better.

Their Pho dac biet is also very nice although I have had better ones in Cabra.

Service is a bit of hit and miss. The young boy is a bit rude and ignorant. He would look at you, say yes but never deliver. The lady on the other hand provides better customer service.

Bottomline : Great food. Good Service. Great Value.

Very good all rounder Vietnamese restaurant. Excellent pho as well as an extensive menu of noodle dishes, rice dishes and other tasty Vietnamese snacks. I often come here for the bun bo hue.

As a last minute celebration for my December-baby friend, we rocked up to Bankstown to eat a favourite and classic Vietnamese dinner.

After discovering this place years back, back at Canley, I was hooked on their Bun Bo Hue. Bun Bo Hue will change your life. If you just love Pho and haven't ventured out then please do because it will change your mind and you will never be able to go back to plain tasting Pho again... well at least that's been my experience...

With a larger group I was able to capture some of their other dishes that my friends tried instead of mine. My wife ordered the grilled pork chop Vietnamese broken rice dish (Com Tam) was surprisingly good. Nice mixture of the fish sauce, with rice, the oils in the meat... it makes for a perfect bite.

My friend tried their crispy chicken... which he said wasn't as great as Tan Viet... where is the crisp?

The massive Bun Bo Hue came with the side of vegetables... which we discussed how half of us adds it into the soup to give it a different texture and the other half leaves it untouched because the addition drowns out the flavour and the difference in texture is quite unpleasant...

The soup here is amazing. This is what they're famous for. Yes it has a slight kick but nothing too hot to handle. You can even pay a little more the get the Special Bun Bo Hue... which they include a Pork Hock in your soup for you to gnaw on.

The Pennywort drink here looks like sugar powder with water...

My wife had their coconut drink. Typical packet stuff...

... and I had the Logan drink... most likely from a can as well...

It's a nice, cheap, perfect meal for all occasions. I love this place... well except the service... if they're slightly busy.. be prepared to be ignored or forgotten.

The lok lak dish here is quite good and usually what I order when I visit but I've heard from a lot of people (mostly my family) that I have to order the bun bo hue as it's what they consider the best you can get in Sydney. Perhaps it is, but I love my beef so I've yet to try!

Utterly huge portions. Good food. Not used to such chilli sauce that comes with the vermicelli, kept going back for more.

It's a little gross in there. They wipe the tables with mildew ridden clothes and they stink terribly!

What do you eat when it's a cool autumn day? A warm noodle dish with flavoursome beef; fresh herbs in a carefully hour long crafted broth. I love vietnamese food. A big bowl !

While the housemade bánh hỏi didn't taste too fresh, and the fish sauce was a tad too concentrated for my liking, DIY rice paper rolls was definitely a great cultural experience for all the guests at the tour, and I would happily come to Gia Hội to try their well-known specialty spicy beef noodle dish!
Food Booze Shoes
We relied on someone in the know to lead us to the garishly magenta-lit insides of Gia Hoi, just off the main road. All the favourite Vietnamese dishes are here and I couldn't resist the crispy skin chicken, served with salad and a yellow-red hued tomato rice. The rice wasn't spectacular but the insanely crisp shattering skin of the chicken, with moist, tender flesh beneath, made up for any rice regrets. Grilled pork chop Another easy choice is the grilled pork chop, which comes with a choice of noodle or rice sides. The slightly (and nicely) fatty pork is incredibly tender and full of hours of marinated flavour. Noodles

Only one good dish to order. Spicy beef noodle soup.

QUANTITY OVER QUALITY .... The food was gross... Would u choose quantity over quality? I would never go there ever again
David
Food wasn't fresh. Service was fast, pho serving bowls were huge and atmosphere is pleasant but that's about it.

My order was rice with pork chopped and my wife was a spicy soup and both were disappointments. The pork tasted like it was over-cooked in the morning and was just reheated in the microwave prior to serve. It was tough and dry. The soup was large but didn't have the flavour that other Vietnamese restaurants had in bankstown.

Favourite local Viet restaurant, boss is really nice too!

Amazing food. The restaurant won our hearts or rather our stomachs! Our kids called the food "Amazing" . We had cold rolls, crispy skin chicken, pho, and pork chop rice with the lot. All were amazingly good, definitely worth many more returns. Place is packed with locals each time , now we understand why:-)

Easy Viet. Our go to place for Viet. Always order the sugar cane prawn or crispy skin chicken with noodles.
The owners are always smiling and friendly even when they are super busy.
Drinks always take a while to arrive but the Jackfruit shake is yum!
We only order specific dishes here because we find the stir fry dishes are not very good.
We keep returning none the less

One of all time fave viet restaurants for pho!!
Special beef noodle soup (pho): very clear, tasty beef soup that's piping hot, extremely tender beef cuts.
Pork balls & spring rolls rice vermicelli: very fresh carrot & lettuce strips
All the cutlery feels so clean too!
Around $10 per dish. Supreme value.
Queen Pig
One of my favourite restaurants where I have returned, time & time again. Generous portions, excellent value for money, vietnamese music, bright orange chopsticks, biggest soup spoons I've ever seen and a decent toilest compared to surrounding Vietnamese restaurants. Most popular for BUN BO HUE, a traditional Northern Dish similar to PHO just with "daring" bits like pork blood jelly. Best advocado shake ever!
