Review Thang Long Restaurant - Bankstown

Ritin Bhojwani
I had the spicy beef stew with egg noodles and the wife had dry egg noodles with mushrooms and vegetables. The stew was delicious but was not as spicy as I was hoping to be. I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless. The portion sizes are quite satisfactory. We also ordered the customary over coffee with condensed milk. Always a favourite. Service was quick, friendly and efficient. Would love to eat here again.

Blown away by how authentic the food tasted here as well as the quantities. I ordered the special combination Banh Hoi. The best part about the dish was all components including the noodles was still warm and tasted super fresh!

I ordered vietnamese rice noodle soup here and I really enjoyed it. Service was fast and staff were polite. Lots of beef and tasted nice with chilli sauce. Only thing I wasn't too happy with was that it was bit under seasoned and they don't give spoon

I entered the restaurant at about 6pm and there weren’t many customers inside. Is that why they suddenly turned off some of the lights which made it a tad bit dark (you can clearly see the lighting from the photos). I noticed that there was menu placed at the entrance and cashier ends of the place as I walked in. And then as I was suggested to be seated at one of the table, the waiter didn’t even give us the menu but just handed two cups for hot tea. I was quite confused as it didn’t happen before when I dined in here last year. When the waiter brought out our dishes, they didn’t even say anything but just put the bowl on the table without asking who’s they’re for. We ended up ordering small combination pho and a vermicelli noodles salad with grilled pork and spring rolls. The pho was indeed quite small compared to price ($13.5) and there weren’t many slices of beef and other toppings like other places. The pho broth was on the sweeter side and I didn’t like it as much. The vermicelli bowl was alright, good portion and toppings but lots of noodles instead of salad and vegetables. No cards payments available. Wouldn’t come back here again. Sorry!

Great beef noodle with tomato soup base is awesome. Noodles are great too! Also great Vietnamese coffee

Would recommend it! It’s our go-to Vietnamese restaurant. Our favourites are the combination pho and the crispy chicken with garlic rice. Usually fairly busy during dinner time so you know it’s good. Reasonably priced, quick service and good food. What more can you ask for?

Very good Vietnamese food. Affordable and cheap. I have been coming to this place for many years and have found the food to be very consistent and tasty. Management has changed a few times but the restaurant at its very core hasn't changed too much in the last years.

Went here with my kids. Ordered a beef soup and a special fried rice plus two extra bowls for the kids to share meals. I don’t know how many times I had to request for the two sharing bowls. It took ages, the staff need to be well trained to understand what their customers are saying. By the time the bowls were handed over the food was getting cold. Also there’s nothing special about the special fried rice that was a complete waste of money and it needs a big improvement. I don’t know why it’s on the menu if they can’t put decent sized prawns or enough meat. Best to leave things off if it can’t be done right rather than have it on there, just for options.

SYDNEYS BEST BUN BO HUE!

The BBH here is spot on! All the flavours were so authentic & the meat portions are super generous! The broth is so addictive and kept true as they put in shrimp sauce instead of westernising it! Food comes out super quick & service is efficient!

When I'm in bankstown this is my go to restaurant for Viet food. I really enjoy the vietnamese food here.
Crispy chicken & tomato rice is one of my favourites or vermicilli noodles with spring rolls! Also, coconut juice is a must!

The place that has the most like Pho in Vietnam, with the soup texture is clear, but very tasty! The best place to eat Pho than anywhere else in Sydney!!!

Pho is the perfect dish for these cold winter days and Thang Long does a version that is fragrant, sweet and satisfying. Upsize to large for extra noodles to slurp on. It’s a very casual affair in this modest and busy restaurant, and you might find yourself seated on the same table with other pho loving patrons, separated by a plate of condiments and menu.

Cheap place to eat, serving size and quality for the food is quite good for what you pay for. Decent place for dinner or lunch i would say if in the area can’t complain.

3.5/5
I often order chicken or beef pho when coming to Thang Long. Yesterday my friend and I tried Thang Long dry noodles & beef stew noodles soup which were pretty good. There are even serving size for most dishes so you can adjust according to your “hangry” level. Prices are reasonable, too.

I don’t know why they added unnecessary fake plants and separated the table by a giant bar. It makes diners feeling stuffy. Feng shui or not, those plants are blocking our views.

Not easy when you’re competing against the great An Restaurant which many regard as the benchmark for Pho cuisine, but compete they do and hold their own. Quick, cheap and worth every penny
Foodfun
Food was ok, but the table was so small and everyone is cramp together. It’s a very unpleasant environment.
Not worth the hassle of coming back

The best pho in town! Reasonably priced, generous servings of noodles and meats. My fav is meatball soup and hubby’s the combination. Tried the crispy spring rolls for side, loved them! And for drinks/ dessert, avocado smoothie is a must try

Since my first visit to Thang Long I fell in love with it.
With a mix of tasty dishes, every time I visit, I aim to taste as many dishes as possible.
There are too many dishes to name but some of my faves are of course Pho with a hearty broth, springy noodles and tender skinny slices of beef, this dish has been a childhood favourite since I can remember.
Vermicelli rice noodles with grilled meat and prawns “Bún Nem Nuóng”.
The fresh herbs is what really sets Vietnamese cuisine apart from the rest and I love the use of crunchy, soft and tender textures in this dish. It creates a perfect balance. The freshness of the herbs and vegetables is an outstanding hit.
Com Ga Nuong, Crispy Skin Chicken - Honestly the best crispy skin chicken and garlic rice I have tasted so far. That garlic rice was so fragrant and jam packed with flavour. The chicken was so juicy, every time I took a bite, the chicken just oozed with lovely, tasty juices.
For more Vlogs check out my YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8CQlEE62GLokH8jGtAEajg
For more blogs check out my Instagram -
https://www.instagram.com/cutiefoodie_au/

I always come here for something quick and cheap. This restaurant can get quite busy on the weekends. The menu has a good variety of choices. I normally order Pho dac biet or Bun bo hue. The portions are more than enough so I have never ordered any side dishes so I cannot comment on the quality of those.

Delicious, non-pretentious Vietnamese food. I've been here a few times and it never disappoints.

There's no fancy decor, no fancy descriptions of the meals and no fancy wait staff. Just good food at reasonable prices.

This time I had the bun cuon. It's chicken mince with mushrooms wrapped in rice noodles with pork Vietnamese ham, cucumbers and bean sprouts. After adding fish sauce it's light and healthy. Taste like what my mum makes at home. Soooo yummy.

My friend had pho which is a classic.

Great authentic vietnamese eatery we came across whole in the neighborhood. We both opted for the combination broken rice with pork chop. The pork was well marinated, carrots were pickled, rice was broken and flavorful. The iced coffee was a bit too sweet, it was prestirred which was a shame. maybe ask for it not to be if you want it.

Overall excellent value for money and would come again!

Generous portions! Deep flavoured beef pho broth without being heavy... tomato beef gravy stew noodles was also very tasty. everything was balanced so well! And the soup was hot enough... found my fave pho place in Bankstown!! 😋

My favourite authentic Vietnamese restaurant!

I’ve been coming to this restaurant since I was a child and the quality has always been consistent and service is great.

I always order the Combination Beef Noodle Soup and it has a mix of rare beef meat, beef balls, brisket, tripe and tendon. 10/10!

I also ordered the Thang Long Special Noodles in dry and it has a nice savory sauce with a combination of meats and veggies.
This place has a good variety for those Vietnamese food lovers! Service is very fast and the food is good. It can get a little busy during dinner time so you may have to wait.

By far one of the best in town for pho. Price is reasonable and portions are massive unlike Pho An. Spring rolls and cafe su da are really delicious too. 🙌🏼

After reading the previous reviews and wanting pho for tonight, decided to venture out to Bankstown and try this place. There are 3 sizes to choose from. We chose the regular/medium size. I was so impressed they got the noodle type correct. Normally new places stuff it up. I have to commend on the customer service it was great. The lady who took the payment asked us if we enjoyed our meal which is probably the first time that's happened in a Vietnamese place. Thank you for a lovely experience :) the parking situation isn't the best, lots of crazy people at Bankstown lol so come prepared mentally

I usually have positive experiences at this restaurant but my recent one was disappointing. The pho soup wasn't very hot, almost closer to lukewarm. The same was the case with some of our other noodle dishes. But their pho is usually not bad, quite flavoursome and well portioned.
Knife Fork N Chopsticks
I come here quite often, but I never actually ordered their pho till now, even though their name on the door says "Pho Thang Long Restaurant", which leads you to think their pho is perhaps their best dish.

I love how everything here always tastes consistently delicious, and full of flavour, without relying too heavily on MSG. With their pho selection, they also have two different types of beef brisket, the normal one, and then a fattier one, so if you're like me and you hate fatty meat (I hate that soft flubbery texture x_x), the normal brisket is perfect and you won't need to pick out all the big fatty pieces. The pho itself was delicious, the soup was beautiful, but I thought the meat had a bit of a stronger 'animal' taste, like it wasn't a quite clean taste, but that could have just been personal preference. Although I did like it, I wouldn't say it's my favourite place for pho, and I still prefer their other dishes over their pho.

Other times I've come, I've ordered their summer rolls, vegetable, mushrooms, and tofu stir fry with egg noodles and with rice noodles, DIY rolls with grilled pork, crispy skin chicken with tomato rice, combination pork chop with broken rice, Thang Long special noodles, bun bo hue (thick vermicelli noodle soup with spicy pork and beef), and bo ko (noodle soup with spicy stewed beef). Every single time, everything has been tasty and flavorful, and it's another one of those rare places where you can be brave and try something new because you know it'll be a great introduction to the new dish no matter what.

Service has always been very fast and efficient, and portion sizes are not too heavy but definitely not lacking. Pricing is also very cheap, my bill for two people (two dishes plus one or two drinks) is usually around the $25-$30 mark. One funny thing about this place though, they always bring out your drinks half way through your meal, and when it's very busy, you could end up waiting a bit for your drinks (one time, I was almost done with my meal before they finally brought out my drink).

TIP: if you're like me and you love quail eggs, you can add quail eggs for some extra deliciousness for an extra $1 for two eggs (I love adding them to my noodle soups).

A nondescript restaurant along Chapel Street which allures me with their bombastic, flickering blue lights in the middle dining area, Thang Long serves an assortment of traditional Vietnamese dishes including my favourite crispy skin chicken in dry egg noodles.

Unfortunately, my serving of crispy skin chicken was a reheated chicken with soggy skin/meat and its interior is cold (probably left overs from lunch). Their soup was MSG-laden too. 😤😤😤

Authentic Vietnamese restaurant with an extensive menu. Usually I get apprehensive whenever I see a big menu however Thang long do a very good job of keeping the consistency of food at a high quality. Pho is rich without being too overpowering and crispy skin chicken is very tasty

The service was fine. They took the orders promptly as soon as we sat down.
I have been coming here for years. I recommend to order the special beef noodles - the best Pho I have had so far.
Prices are relatively cheap.

Quite good, I enjoyed the broken rice very much. Service was nothing to praise but it was decent. I wish there were more vegetables in the dish though, would've kept it more interesting.

Had lunch here today, ordered crispy skin chicken with rice noodle soup, very generous serving for how cheap it was ($12) was very impressed with the taste.

I highly recommend the pho here (it's as good as pho an imo!). It's better than Pho Toan in flemington.
I also really love the steamed mince pork rice noodles (see photo). As for their vermicelli noodles, it's okay - for this dish, I prefer the pricier mei oi (strathfield) or my two favourites huong xua (canley), or phu quoc (cabra). Thang long is a great happy medium for me - good pho, good dishes, good service, okay location!
Chow Yum Fat
Having eaten at Pho An, Pho Pasteur and Gia Hoi so many times and having heard such great things about Thang Long, my wife and I felt it was time to drop in. The word-of-mouth was not wrong. We ordered two simple staples, a pho tai (beef noodle soup with raw beef) and bun dac biet (special rice vermicelli noodle salad). Both were delicious. The pho broth was less medicinal/herbal than the competition's but slightly sweeter and meatier in flavour. A welcome change. The bun dac biet featured some perfectly barbecued meats on it, the char-grilled fragrance was just awesome. Service was swift and friendly. Yummy.

You know when you meet a new person & automatically know you'll have something special, Thang Long is my new bestie out here, a stand out amongst its Viet-town rivals with its HUGE servings and cheap prices, we got a long term arrangement brewing, great spot TL x

I find the broth of their Pho oddly thick and strong in flavour. Nevertheless, after having Pho from here about 4 times, I find it quite average but a little on the unpleasant side due to the strength and thick broth. Portions are slightly smaller than other Pho eateries.

I had the Pork Rice Paper Rolls (3). They weren't consistent with the sizes (photos attached), that provided me with light amusement. I've never had Pork-filled Rice Paper Rolls so I don't know what to expect but I did find the pork shredded and abit dry despite having the fish sauce dip.
I do recommend #44 Stir Fry Eye Fillet Beef with Garlic Fried Rice. I was taken aback with the tenderness of the beef! That's a winner for me. It had too much sauce for my liking as it overpowered the beautiful beef. The garlic rice was also strong in garlic, wasn't a favourite to have two strong flavours in one dish but the beef was actually perfectly cooked.

Abbott And Abbess
This place has a high rating, is very busy, with locals.

The pho was good, although small in size, it was matched with the quantity of ingredients. The two small pho we ordered differed in quantity of noodles and meat. The lower rating was also based on the additional items we ordered, prawn vermicelli rolls were full of noodles and the prawn and sugar cane was a reasonable.

The service was friendly.

Would we visit again? Probably not, may try others in the area.
Fight The Craving
The days where Pho Anh ruled the pho scene in Bankstown are long gone. If you're in the area and not willing to spend $20 on a bowl of pho but want to keep it traditional, Thang Long is the place to be. With a flavourful broth and a generous serving sizes; noodles, meat and broth, Thang Long has slowly become one of my favourites. MSG is apparent but not in ridiculous throat-drying quantities.

Give it a try, it's not the prettiest looking restaurant but that's where the good stuff is anyway. Oh and +1 for not charging for a small bowl to share your dish (yes, that's a direct hit to Pho Anh)
Jewel Eats
This is one of the better noodle restaurants in the highly competitive Bankstown Vietnamese cuisine scene. Today wanted to try something different, so I ordered Mi Bo Kho, which is a form of Vietnamese style beef brisket curry noodles. Delicious and rich in taste, with the lovely curry aromas which brought back memories of the curry mees in Malaysia! The only let down in this place was the pot plants being right in your face.
Brutal_AF
I am surprised at how high the reviews are. My thoughts is that its ok. I dont understand the fake plants between tables, was a little off putting having a fake leaf in my face while eating. Got a vermicelli salad with grilled pork & spring rolls. Its a little smaller than others that ive had before, no lettuce in it and the sauce is a bit more chilly. It was ok not too bad but i still rather Me Oi in strathfield.

One of the best Pho I've had. Better than any place in Cabramatta or Carley heights. Really good service great prices. Will definitely be back.
Wine&Dine
Food is mediocre but waiters and waitresses have the worst customer service. Ordered food and they brought me something else I didn't order. They made it out as if it's what I had ordered and refused to take it back making me accept it so I had to eat it and didn't want to cause a scene. Will never ever come back.
Tracey
My friend and I both ordered the rare beef pho. And don't let the serving sizes deceive you, although we ordered a small it was quite filling (though we did get dessert as well afterwards!) My friend commented on how the soup tended to be a little sweet, but I found it quite delicious regardless! Price for a small bowl was under $10, pretty good value. Service was efficient and polite, and we received our food very soon after ordering. The fact that they don't accept card (cash only) is a drawback, however there is a Commonwealth ATM just down the road. Will definitely be returning - curious as to what the tomato rice and crispy chicken is like here!
IshTheBlogger
Good food, big servings, good prices. I ordered beef pho and my hub got the seafood noodles and we were at awe! Prawn rolls are gigantic too! Only downside is that they only take cash :( but all is well there's a nearby atm machine and you might need to bring some Vietnamese words with you but I guess that what makes it authentic :)

Had a great time here a couple of weekends ago when we were in Bankstown. Was very busy at 1.30pm but had one or two tables spare so we went in. Pho, grilled pork chop and crispy skin chicken were very nice. As a budget Asian restaurant, service and ambience won't be like Rockpool, but probably better than most at this price. We will certainly be back here when next in Bankstown.
DroolWorthyWorld
Before eating, it is important to add the bean sprouts (ask for boiled bean sprouts rather than raw as apparently it can be reused if raw). Add some Thai basil leaves too and sprinkle some chilli if you are so inclined. To finish it off you can also add freshly squeezed lemon juice and a generous dollop of oyster sauce mixed in well.

Best Pho. I have tried a lot of Pho in my time and I will always go back to Pho Thang Long.. by far the best Pho around.
Their Service is wonderful too!!

Mrs. I'm whom live in the sw region of sydney to me Thang long Pho is farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr better than Pho An trust me I've try it, cheap and tasty than Pho An

Pho addict. I love this place and frequent it due to it being rather local, I'm a sucker for special (combination) beef & bun bo hue. Thang long does these exceptionally well.... Its in my top 3 for these dishes.

I have noticed the prices have gone up a little lately though.. but you cant help that, its exceptional value.

This place is where i go for real vietnamese food. Forget any of Luke Nguyens restaurants. Or anything in Surry Hills. This is where its at and you shouldn't ever have to pay more than $15 for ANY Vietnamese dish. Take that pretentious Viet Surry joints !!!
Sydneyguyrojoe
Gives you a little bit more...... CAme here with no one in there (it was late afternoon) hungry for something to eat

The food did take a little while to come out to my suprise. Food wise its a little below standard vietnamese places. The positive is that the srping rolls are nice and medium size unlike a lot of places where they are tiny, its potentally a meal to itself. The pork chop rice was a little below standard. But they did give me a extra plate of salad

Ambience wise, its what i expected from a vietnamese place

Price wise its what you expect to pay

With so much competition in Bankstown there way of competing to give you a little bit more!!
