Review Hotpot City - Bankstown

Wendy Lo
4.7 - The Best All-You-Can-Eat Hotpot Buffet ($37) that I have had. And no crowds! Makes it perfect for catch-ups with friends. I love the items they have there although the only thing missing is probably Asian drinks and desserts (like a sweet red bean soup or white fungus papaya to soothe those throats after all the heat of the Hotpots). Or else a drink of wintermelon or plum to even up our systems? They have watermelon, which is great, but it's often room temperature rather than chilled. Love this place though! Glad I brought my friends to experience it! This is the only thing I come out to Bankstown for!

This place is really good and very friendly staff. I enjoyed the hotpot soup. So many choices of meat and vegetables. Hot plates were working perfectly and didn't have to wait for too long. I highly recommend this place and stuff. This is not a place for regular visit but once in a while this is a good place for dinner.

Love the place and you leave full and satisfied! Going in a big group is also enjoyable as there are big tables. They have a good variety of spices, Veggies, noodles and more. They also provide you with watermelon after your meal which is very refreshing.

So unfortunate I had to come during a diet restriction (hence no ‘meat’) but I quite enjoyed the experience with what was available. $37 for an all you can eat seems fair as long as you eat your fill. Variety of sauces available and the quality of food was decent. Would definitely go back now without the diet restriction.

Yesterday was my first time to eat here. To be honest, I was amazed. The food are very fresh and varied, also the prices are very affordable. There is also a great variety of pot bases and small ingredients. Overall it was a very good experience. Wll, I have a little tip: it would be wonderful if there is a tomato soup!

Easy access from the carpark inside Saigon Plaza. Would recommend making a booking beforehand. Several soup bases available and AYCE meats and veggies and condiments which is good. Reasonably priced. Came on a Sunday and was quite busy which meant food was topped up quite frequently. Bar also available for beverages! Individual pots and soup bases, top up is available!

Probably the most busy place in Little Saigon Plaza. Plenty of options, food wise and soup base wise. You have your own little heating plate to cook your food in your pot. Also more room than expected here but i would still book in advance

We enjoyed Hot pot city, it was great choice for family dinner.Tomyum base soup and lamb slices were the best choices. All pre cooked dishes were well delicious and plenty of chpices.

All you can eat hotpot

Came for lunch with a friend on a weekday. It was surprisingly quite busy for a weekday. Cost was $20pp which is definitely affordable compared to the dinner prices.
Hotpot city allows you to custom your own mini hotpot with a range of broths and sauces to choose from. They offer an extensive range of ingredients as well. I personally prefer to mushroom soup.

Each person has a little stovetop with 5 settings to control how much you want your hotpot heated. With covid, the restaurant requests you wear plastic gloves when handling tongs at the bar. I feel this is definitely not that hygienic as there's no social distancing at the ingredient bar and people are not wearing masks.

Overall, reasonably priced all you can eat hot pot. Fun to go with friends and family. Would recommend

All you can eat hot pot. It’s a bit pricier than doing it yourself but you go there for the fun. The hot pot bowls are individual so you get your own soup base.

My only complaint is that the staff are slow at bringing out the meats, often leaving empty bowls in the buffet for extended periods of time. It’s not that fun waiting for 10 minutes instead of eating or chatting with your friends. There are plenty of options, but the quality is pretty average (although decent given the price and the all you can eat).

At first I was drawn to hotpot city because of the affordability of the buffet option and the individual pot gimmick. But I think it's safe to say its my favourite go to place for hotpot. They have an awesome range of toppings, soup bases and sauces. I love coming here with a big group of friends because you can cater to all of the different flavour palettes. I usually come at lunch because it is really good value, but be aware that there is no seafood and fish roe during lunch.
Great buffet and great range. Prices are a bit expensive but it's worth the experience.

Absolute favourite hot pot buffet in Sydney. Never fails to disappoint! Extensive range of ingredients so it caters to all dietary requirements. Soup base range is also great - I always get mushroom or chicken. Bar is stocked quite regularly but gets empty quickly on weekends. Great quality meat and everything in between at an affordable price! Highly recommend booking so you don’t wait in line too long. Large seating area so you can also come in groups.

We went on a Saturday and chose the $35pp all you can eat buffet. There was a good selection of ingredients and the service was great. Would come back :)

Ample seats, extensive food options. Loved the Sichuan broth, the staffs were always checking on us, very friendly. We had mostly seafood, but since there were halal options, I had some beef and lamb as well. To finish off, cool watermelon and oranges were just perfect! Will go back again.

Satisfying.

Hotpot City is a hot pot buffet restaurant serving a diverse range of vegetables, noodles, meat, seafood balls, and seafood. It is located in Little Saigon Plaza, Bankstown. There is ample seating inside and pram friendly.

I so wanted to eat here as who doesn't love cooking your own concoction of ingredients in your individual pot on a cold winter's day? So satisfyingly warm, tasty, and very filling.

Being a weekend, we had to wait 30 minutes for a table. We were then seated and given a menu of 11 soup bases to choose from, you can order 1 or 2 flavors per pot. You write your selection on the paper order and hand this paper to the bar. We ordered drinks at the same time. Not long after, our soups arrived and we turned on our individual electric stoves for the soup to boil. You can ask for a 'top up' of your soup as it runs out free of charge. I couldn't wait to see the buffet bar and hoe into my hot pot.

My mouth dropped as I saw the buffet selection. There was so much variety that I only got one of a select range of seafood balls, some shaved meat, tofu, leafy greens, tofu, and noodles as I knew there was no way I could try everything. If I could, I would have. There was also some fruit but we pretty much rolled out of the restaurant as we were so full.

The sauce and condiments bar was also impressive. I made my own sauce by mixing a few ingredients together and it tasted awesome.

As the soup boiled, we cooked our food to our liking and it was a very enjoyable experience as we dipped them into the sauce. The soup however was a bit bland. We got the chicken soup and ox tail and herbs soup.

The staff seemed friendly but was hard to wave down.

Verdict: Perfect for a cold night and if you have an appetite.

Seafood, meat, chicken & vegetable hotpot. $35 for Saturday lunch. And fruit for dessert. Great for family & friends get together. Parking near the restaurant is available.

I went with a friend today. Great place to go to for lunch on a weekday as it’s only $19 all you can eat! They also kept re-filling your soup.

Love the sauce station!

However, I only gave it a 3 stars as my daughter went there with her friends 2 weeks ago. One of her friends ordered the Tom Yum & it was too spicy for her but they didn’t refill their soup at all throughout the 1.5 hours! If they did, my daughter’s friend would’ve been able to enjoy it more.

So the staff must treat teenagers (almost 18 year olds) differently to adult customers?

T
came here for lunch buffet, it was priced really good with
$19 pp for lunch buffet.
there was a lot of vegetarian which was nice however not that much meat and whenever they brought out the beef or lamb, it would be gone in a minute.
the broth was nice and the staff were super friendly.
Trần Thị Quỳnh Trang
Worst service ever!
Very rude staffs and even the manager or supervisor on shift. Giving us an attitude when we requested a table away from the entry door as it was too windy for our little 3 months old baby

Located in a plaza with plenty of free parking and was easy to find. It isn’t a cheap eat but it’s what you would expect to pay for an all you can eat place. Good variety and tasty soups. I like the idea of being able to have separate soup bowls and adding whatever you like!
Mr. D
Perfect place for those cold winter nights! They have a huge variety of meats and sauces. The soup bases pretty basic. You get to choose one each on arrival but funny thing is when they top up our soup bases they use all the same soup even if we have both chosen a different soup base. Drinks and alcohol can be purchased separately.
Tash
There is a fair variety of toppings, sauce and soups. The drinks are quite expensive ($4 for a soft drink) but they do provide complimentary water which is usually very low every time i visit this place. The last time i went, one of the waiters grumbled as she walked off after a customer informed her the water was out.

Overall, $19 for lunch is a fair and very reasonable price for the quality and variety they provide. However a $35 dinner would require more consideration from me.
Grace Tham
I love the hotpot there. Reasonable price, food is fresh and a huge variety and also amazing sauce selection (best part you don’t have to pay extra for the sauce unlike some other hotpot places). the only reason I didn’t 5 stars is because if only the refill soup is a specific type of soup instead of the generic chicken soup then it’ll be perfect. What I meant is if you order the tomato or tomyam broth if you ask for refill, all their refill are the same. They don’t refill tomato or tomyam broth again
Cravings Thru Syd
I like the place but I wish the broth was much more flavourful. The concept is great, quality isn’t 5 stars that for sure but I still get my fix. Hoping they can improve on the broth cause that’s a deal breaker for me. Nevertheless, price is good.
Alice Chau Nguyen
I love the concept, especially with winter around the corner. This place has alot of variety in terms of the seafood balls and to be honest I like the Tom Yum Flavour soup (haven't tried any other in fear of disappointment). I recommend you don't get the water refill when they come around asking since it's just chicken broth and will dilute the flavour of your soup. Other than that, I quite enjoy it.

I got food poisoned from eating here. I picked Kimchi soup for my Hotpot and spent the whole next day vomiting. i found the rotten kimchi red piece of vege that was giving me severe acidity. I ate there before and everything was fine but this time around, a horrible experience.
Amanda
Really 3.5 love the concept and so much choice but only a 3 due to flavourless soup base. Also so hard to eat hotpot buffet style with 2 people only. It was dead at lunch time so I’ll try next time dinner w a group. Love the may the sauce be with you area!

This place is amazing !! Fresh buffet of everything you can imagine . From meat and poultry to noodles, vegetables, seafood and fish/meat balls . Such a big variety. You can choose your own soup base. Would consider booking before hand as they get very busy
Jen Yen
Delicious, affordable food with fast and efficient service.

There’s a wide range of foods to choose from and we left feeling extremely satisfied.

Only downside is that I wish they would enforce stricter rules regarding the utensils used to transfer the meat onto our plates due to the dangers of cross contamination.

Jeanie
I love coming here to eat during lunch ($19) and dinner ($35). The food is all you can eat and you choose your own broth for yourself. The music and atmosphere is also very nice.
Foodfun
Worst hot pot buffet I have been to, we waited 1hr 30min for the soup to come out after ordering. We had to ask them twice about it.
Tom yum soup was lacking in flavours
Variety of food was ok, been to better places in the city and Burwood. I don’t understand the appeal.
Grace
Kimchi Broth : 😁 Great
Seafood Broth : 😁 Great
Mushroom Broth : 😁 Great
Japanese Soy Broth : 😊 Good

At $35pp for dinner, there was a lot riding on us to eat as much as we could at this hotpot buffet. Going on a Monday night it was very very busy but there was still a lot of foods to choose from. Each broth had it’s own unique flavour but some were quite plain, however, all you need to do is add the endless spices and condiments they give to you so you can tweak it exactly the way you want. Perfect place for picky eaters.
Susan
Very busy even for a Monday night. The food was good as it is a buffet and service was friendly. The sauce range goes on and on but the Suki sauce is a must have when I eat hot pot. I tried the Korean special sauce and that went well with the food. The broth range is also really good, can’t really go wrong with whichever you choose.
Julie Nguyen
Went here on a weekday to satisfy my hot pot cravings and was definitely not disappointed! Paid $19 for 1.5hrs eating time during lunch and was very pleased with my feed. Hot pot city offers a wide selection of sauces and I love how you’re able to pick from different options of soup bases as well! Also there’s a wide selection of vegetables and other sides you can pick from! Will definitely come back ☺️

This is a good spot to get your hot pot fix. The array of broths are good. The selection of meats, noodles and vegetables are plentiful.

The sauce section is pretty good too. All the basics are covered and few more ingredients thrown in to make it a little extra

Service is ok.
MealzxD
Tucked away in the corner of Little Saigon this place definitely satisfies hotpot cravings. Food was relatively clean. Food was super yummy with a vast selection of broths. The heating of the pot is also efficient so you'll be able to eat quickly. The buffet variety was satisfactory however was still limited, missing a lot of my favourites.
However, the sauce station was definitely a highlight. With a huge array of condiments from thai-korean-chinese, making a concoction was exciting. There was watermelon and orange for dessert as well which was a delight.
Came here for the $19 weekday lunch buffet. Probs wouldn't come when it's $35. Was relatively quiet midday but I can imagine it getting crowded on busy nights at the ingredient station.

Definitely a good night spent with friends but will reconsider the time limit given. 1.5 hours seems like a long time, but when food is constantly boiling and burning your tongue, you’ll definitely question where the time has gone!

There was a variety of food (and sauces) to choose from. Like sliced beef, pork, chicken and lamb, a selection of seafood/fish balls. A selection of greens and seafood and drinks to order.

I praise Hotpot City on cleanliness as food was constantly under room temperature and tongs were given to each bowl of raw food. But, if only customers understood the dangers of cross contamination and used utensils correctly.
Honestyinc
Tried Hotpot city for the first time gotta say I was pretty impressed good variety of base stocks with the chilli being my favourite,
A ton of things to add to your pot, food was fresh and there was pretty much something for everyone in my family.
Great array of condiments to add to your cooked food if you have not had a crack at hotpot this would be a good place to start.
Very reasonably priced for what you get.

Helen | Grab Your Fork
Most hotpot places are a la carte but Hotpot City in Bankstown lets you eat as much as you can from a buffet selection for $35 (only $19 for lunch Monday to Friday). Everyone gets their own hotpot which means no need to fight over the last fish ball. Choose from 11 soup bases, running from tom yum to kimchi to oxtail with herbs. Don't worry. They have a classic chicken soup too. Everyone gets their own ceramic hot plate so you can keep your soup at just the right temperature for you.
Plum
Came here at around 11:30am and it was quite empty but it also filled up soon after. I got the tom yum soup base and it was nice. Not too spicy. The food selection range was great and Everything looked decently fresh.

Good for the value, varieties of meats and veggies is great with refilled on time even in the peak hour. Best part is you get your own pot so you just have your own favorite soup hot pot. The sauce counter is awesome with variety of ingredients with proper labels. Definitely going to be a regular here! 👍👍
TD
It is a relatively affordable place for a buffet, situated close to the station.

There was quite a variety to choose from, ranging from beef, lamb, chicken, to fish dumbells, fish balls, eggs, mushrooms and lots more.

The exciting part is that you can customise your own hotpot, and go for seconds or even thirds.

Good experience.

Jennyngu990
SO WORTH YOUR MONEY, and so affordable and so much variety honestly. No wonder it’s so packed every dinner time and it’s cool cuz they refill ur hot pot when you finish the soup so it rlly is unlimited
Bobby Nguyen
I came here for dinner with girlfriend, Prices is expensive.
Service was great.
Great Selection of Soup Base and a huge number of sauces. They offer a large variety of foods as well.
Mary Tran
Has a good selection of noodles, sauce and fish balls. I’ve only tried the chicken soup base but have heard the others like tom yum and ox bone are also good (would avoid chilli as it’s too oily for my liking). Hygiene is reasonable here but it beats many other hotpot buffets that are self served.
Kelly
Loved hot pot city. On a weekday You can score lunch at $19 for all you can eat! Pick a soup base (I just ordered chicken stock) and pick and choose ingredients you would like to eat. I like that there is a big range of ingredients - I prefer to nibble on greens and fish balls instead of opting for noodles!!! Minimise carbs 😆
Lisa Nguyen
Great experience. Friendly staffs. Great variety of food to go with your own choice of sauces. Now if you're concern your taste bud isn't the same as your friends,....YOU'll be amazed...YOU get your own pot and YOUR choice of soup base!

This Buffet will definitely blow your mind away with the freshness and quality range of seafood & meat & vegetables.

Definitely a place you'll leave knowing you will come back..

I’m not the biggest hotpot fan but I do like buffets so I thought I would give this place a go. They charge $35 per person which I would say is the average price for all you can eat. We went on a Friday night and although the place was very big, most of the tables were filled so I would suggest making a booking.

I chose an ox tail soup base which I would recommend. However, if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, there’s heaps of other soups to choose from. I liked the thought of having my own individual pot rather than sharing a pot with the table. There was a wide selection of the usual meats, seafoods and fish balls that you would have at hotpot. There’s also a massive section with heaps of sauces.

All in all, I was pretty impressed with the variety and quality at Hotpot City. They also serve Soju which is always a plus :)

Came here for dinner with my family, never really been a fan of hotpot but this place was awesome! Great selection of food, and for a busy saturday night the staff were really fast at topping everything up. Service was great, would definately reccommend!! Best thing by far is the sauce selection.. endless possibilities

Came here for dinner on friday night. I'm a big fan of hotpot, so I had very high expectations. There was a great selection of food, everything from vegetarian to seafood and assorted meats. Service was amazing, staff were really friendly when we asked to move tables (to get closer to the food).

I love the idea of individual pots! so much easier than sharing one big pot, especially if you're in a big group.

Would definitely come back!!

Come here for the lunch wih friend, their Tom yam soup (a big prawn inside) and clear soup are good and love the concept of mini pot, for $19 dollar is really a great deal with plenty of selection over the food counter and the sauce section. The only thing i dislike that is the staff refill soup with diferent soup base. The soup base spoiled afterwards, otherwise everything are great.
Jonita🥢
Great variety and quality of the buffet! The place itself is also pretty clean and spacious. Would say that the $35 dinner isn’t the best deal as the seafood options are frozen not fresh. Recommend going for the weekday $19 lunch buffet, which only excludes the frozen seafood options, as it would be more worth your while!
Annie Nguyen
We came here for dinner and as a vegetarian there were plenty of vegetarian options in the buffet (greens, all sorts of mushrooms, pumpkin, corn, broccoli, cauliflower, quail egg, tomato, noodles, tofu) however, the vegetarian broth was more sweet than savoury because of the goji berries which didn't really compliment the sauce options too well. They also kept topping up the chicken broth but I had to continually request a top up for the vegetarian soup.

The sauce station was great though (sesame, peanut, hoi sin, garlic, chilli, Sichuan, you name it!) and the dessert was the stand out for us. We ordered a bing soo and a melon ice cream and these were both delicious but were extra on top of the buffet.

And I do like the idea of everyone having their own hotpot bowl. Overall the food was ok but it does get pricey if you're not going to be chowing down on the meat options (they had sliced beef, fish balls, fish roe balls, cheese and fish balls, clams, prawns and many more)
Iris Trinity Chan
I really like this restaurant the hospitality there was great and the soups came quite fast and I think it’s cool having individual pots/soups and it’s so inexpensive $19 per person for weekdays, $25 per person for weekends (lunch) and Monday to Sunday dinners are $35 per person as well and there’s also a whole buffet of food and sauces and you can get as much as you want which is cool. Hotpot City is one of my favourite restaurants. I really recommend
OneHungryHuman
Great experience. Something different. Choose your broth then choose for over 90+ ingredients and 40+ sauces to make your own amazing Korean hotpot.
Have some Sake and Soju and enjoy every minute of your time here with friends.
You will not be leaving here hungry
Picturesque Food
Hot pot City for lunch - for sure!
$19 for all you can eat hot pot is a great deal!
Large selection of meats, salads and sauces to treat any fussy eater.
Penny
Wide range of sauces and very fresh food. Service was friendly too and everything was replenished in a timely manner. Would definitely recommend this place.
Jennifer
Soo good. Love the wide range of broths and mushrooms. Just keep coming back for
Lunch and dinner (: big sauce bar as well. Every time I come here, it is a new experience .

Not usually a fan of hotpots but this place really has changed my overall opinion. Super enjoyable buffet dinner with quality meat and seafood, as well as an indiviual mini hotpot and a wide selection of sauces to try. Would recommend booking beforehand as they tend to get very crowded for dinner and it is kinda pricy but still worth the try as it was a great experience!
Jandy Huynh
Really enjoyed dinner at Hotpot city, by far one of the best Hotpot places I’ve ever been to! My partner and I were very satisfied and will definitely come back again
Stephanie N
I enjoyed my experience here. I ate here saturday lunch and it was $25 pp. The food and broth was good and the price was reasonable. I was incredibly full and satisfied when I left. I deducted 0.5 due to staff not clearing finished tables, and some options not being restocked (I had to request certain items be restocked).
Miss Angie
I'd give it a better score but the food was good for the opening price of $29, (unfortunately it's now $35 for dinner), the customer service was pretty nice. Sad that when you eat at around 8:30-9pm they stop washing the spoons so you end up not even tasting the soup, even some bowls were unwashed so you couldn't use them. Overall it was a good experience, definitely do not recommend to eat on the weekends as it will always be full unless you manage to call in for a booking, eat on the week nights so you can be guaranteed a spot to eat with friends or family. Good place overall but quite expensive.
Waan Kumpoon
Been here twice now in the past week and absolutely love it! The food is fresh and the variety, from seafood, meats, veges, noodles, is extensive. Always thought it'd be a good idea to have individual pots, a sauce bar and all you can eat combined into one. And now it exists. Yay! Will definitely be back.
Delene Khoo
Waited for over 2 hours to get a table as they only take bookings for groups over 10 and don't appear to put time limits on tables.
Ox tail soup tasted like cinnamon water and buffet food was cleared shortly after we started eating so we were forced to eat whatever was left. Variety would've been great if we got to choose from the full range.
Staff started cleaning our table with spray and wipe WHILE we were eating and the smell was extremely overpowering and put me off my meal.

Would not recommend.
Jess Bui
When I found out that the lunch buffet was $19 compared to the $35 dinner buffet, I was immediately suspicious of the huge price discrepancy. I assumed there would be quite a small variety of food on offer for lunch, but I was proven wrong. There was only one section of the buffet which was withheld at lunch time, and I believe that mainly comprised of seafood, such as crab sticks and fish. Thankfully, fish and crab balls with roe were still on offer at lunch, as well as other staple foods such as pork belly, lamb slices, noodles, and much more. There was a huge variety of food for such a cheap lunch buffet.
They even gave you more choice with the soup. They had spicy sichuan, mushroom, and even kimchi soup. They had a couple more but I've forgotten. I had the spicy sichuan soup which tasted like the typical spicy soup you would get at any hot pot restaurant, however my sister and brother in law had the mushroom soup and kimchi soup, and they were left disappointed, as they were bland.
I loved that you could easily control the settings of your own cooker. You could put it on the highest setting if you wanted your food to cook immediately, or you could put it on the lowest setting so that it boiled your soup intermittently.
A negative was that they were running very low on sesame paste at their sauce station, and when I asked if they could refill, they said they had run out. As this was only lunch time, I doubted they had actually run out of sesame paste. Also, they came around to all the tables at 2pm to announce that it was your last chance to get food as the kitchen was closing. We were a bit shocked as the restaurant didn't close until 3pm. However, we realised that they meant the last batch of food was coming out from the kitchen, not that they were closing the food station. They could probably phrase this differently to avoid confusion.
Overall, I enjoyed this place. They had friendly service, had a lovely ambience and design, and the food was great, as well as cheap.

Would return
