Review Gebran - Bankstown

Henry Shiner
First time visit to this restaurant, as I had heard about it for some time. My partner and I and my mother had lunch food was outstanding and very home cooked. Sadly the service was wanting and downright presumptuous my mother insisted on paying and handed the money to the waitress who took it upon herself to not bring us the change. This was extremely rude as normally you would provide the change back to the table and leave it up to the customer to leave a tip. I had to ask her for the change to give back to my mother not very professional at all and left a bad taste in our mouth .

We booked a table for 24 and the website had a set price for the banquet which the restaurant insisted upon since it’s a large group. When it was time to pay we were told we had to pay $20 extra per person. We were not notified of this price when we made the booking, their website had one price of $55 pp, their menu at the restaurant had another price which is $59 pp and they insisted on us paying $75 on the night. We will never go back again, none of us. The food was not flowing as usual, the mains did not include enough skewers for everyone. The quality of service has dropped dramatically.

The quality of the food was outstanding, however stay clear of the banquet set menu as the amount of food provided was quiet underwhelming. ( it’s not worth the money) The amount of people there when compared to the food placed on the table was not quiet enough. The service was also mediocre they didn’t check in on us as often as they should. But I will have to repeat that the quality of the food was great.

I would say this is one of the best Lebanese cuisines in Sydney... The food is so similar to the way it is done traditionally.. so much taste and passion. The kebbeh nayyeh is unbelievable... the kids enjoyed it as much as I did. It will definitely be our monthly treat.

I have been there before they are a bit pricy. This evenings services was sub standard. The table, plate and cutlery were covered in dust. The music was very loud like a night club. People had to be louder so they can hear each other. The food we asked for everything to come out together. We received one plate at a time and they forgot one of the main meals. We were about to leave when they heard us saying:”guess no fish”. The waitress run to the kitchen and brought it out. We asked for some water twice before it came out even then we were charged for the tap water 2 x water = $12. Next time I’ll just order another beer.. The dishes were chipped so was the wine glass. The salad used as a garnish on the grilled Halumi was old. We did like the food however there is a lot of room for improvements. It could also be due to the fact that it was busy Friday night post covid so I kind of did expect the quality of service to drop in general as there are way too many customers... the prices does not justify the service as it was quite expensive for the level of service... I will try them again in the future as in the past they been good to check if this was coincidental, I will then review this and change my comments if necessary...

Very expensive. No really, there is expensive but this one over the top. Food: 1- homous is pathetic, you can get better homous from Coles. 2- falafel is great hence the one star. 3- meet is acceptable. cleanliness, dirty under our dining table. Toilet made me want to puke.

Ok so where do I start had a family dinner we ordered off the set menu ..added some arak which is a middle eastern spirit it was ok, the waiters seem to be in a constant trance when asking for something you need to make sure they repeat it not just give a nod & walk away. We were eating inside the back of the shop near a staircase & we even ordered a shisha aka hookah - argehli in Arabic not much ventilation inside with more then one shisha going at once .. overall the food was acceptable have eaten at much better places if your after a nice middle eastern fit out with slow service I guess this is the place for you. Oh the dessert was 4/5 *

We were one of the first people to visit this place when it first opened it used to be amazing. The worst service ever. The food has changed as well.We kept on calling the waiters to take our order.believe it or not they gave us plastic cups to drink with. And to top it if they charged us $250 for a bit of mezza and 6 skewers of BBQ platter.Never again

We absolutely love coming here. The food is always fresh and the service is very attentive. The breakfast included the best of traditional Lebanese foods, and the restaurant is amazing for dinner and drink. All round, a 5 star experience.

This is the biggest joke of a Lebanese restaurant and I’m Lebanese myself !!! I’ve eaten here numerous times before which used to be great and now it’s crap. I don’t know if it is because my partner and her friend were non middle eastern or not but the service was terrible, they got seated right near the bar and when they asked to be moved somewhere else they were told nothing else is available where there were plenty of empty tables which never got filled. Quality of food has worsened and prices have increased unreasonably. Ordered a mixed plate which only came with the meats and the smallest amount of garlic, others leb places come with at least part of a salad or pickles and horse radish. Ordered knafeh and it came in a burger roll WTF is that? After everything ordered they want to charge a credit charge while the bill was payed with a debit card.

✔️ There were absolutely no positives of this experience. <br/><br/>❌ I have never received such disgraceful hospitality at a restaurant in my life. First of all, what Lebanese restaurant in this world charges for pickles and bread? We were told we must order either 6 banquets or none, even though 2 people were kids and would have eaten $10 worth of food. After hesitantly accepting this ridiculous rule, we asked to change the tabouli in the platters to fattoush. Again, we were told no repeatedly by both the workers and the manager, even though we’ve done this multiple times in the past. After 10 minutes of arguing with us, the manager aggressively said, <br/>“This will be the last time we do this.” What a disgrace to Lebanese hospitality: rude and tight. Now it’s our turn to tell YOU we will never return. And I ensure you we will be telling everybody we have ever recommended this place to, to never ever come here.<br/><br/>Food: 2.5/5<br/>Presentation: 2/5 <br/>Service: 0/5 <br/>Location: 3/5

Yummy Lebanese food. It was four of us and we ordered the Gebran Platter, Gebran salad, the lamb and rice specialty (can't remember the name) and some kibbeh as well and wow the food was good. A few minuses came from the salad which was nothing special for the price and probably had a bit too much lemon but the platter was really delicious. Probably didn't have enough meat for everyone so would go with individual meat dishes next time but the chicken was melt in your mouth, the lamb was nicely seasoned as well as the kafta. The hummus and garlic dip were soo good we had to ask for seconds. The kibbeh were sooo good! Perfectly seasoned on the inside it was hard to stop myself from finishing the whole plate. The lamb rice dish was so nice with the crunchy roasted nuts and melting lamb- was very impressed with the food.<br/>The service was also not too bad- the waitress was friendly although she was a bit lost (probably because they had a banquet going on upstairs and were quite busy) all in all not a bad experience especially considering we weren't too sure what to expect since it was our first time. Will definitely come back to try more dishes. <br/>Yes it's definitely on the pricier side but everything was so good I felt it was worth it and we all walked out with full belly's.

Extremely disappointing in all aspects, service was slow and lacking any feeling.<br/>ALL meats were over cooked and dry, which I found surprising. The only highlight of the night was the falafel.<br/>Pricing was ridiculously expensive compared to the other local Lebanese food places and yet didn't justify the price against quality<br/><br/>As an Arab who knows what proper Lebanese food should be like, I won't be coming back again anytime soon, probably never

Best in Sydney. Before i start i must say that i have eaten at hundreds of restaurants both locally and internationally. I am a self proclaimed foodie!<br/><br/>Most authentic lebanese food in Sydney.<br/>If you're a looking for a quick lunch or even a nice family dinner Gebran Lebanese Cuisine is the way the go! <br/><br/>They chef also whips up some tremendous seafood dishes. <br/>If you like your sashimi come gives these guys a go. It couldnt be fresher if you ate it off the line & hook.<br/><br/>Food is always consistant and full of flavour. Hygiene and service is 10/10. <br/>I eat here on a regular basis and have been doing so for many years. <br/>The friendly staff and owner John always make you feel welcome.<br/><br/>Their latest edition, woodfire pizza and charcoal chicken is also a must try.<br/><br/>Recommended:<br/><br/>- seafood sashimi<br/>- seafood grill<br/>- fatosh salad<br/>- american woodfire ribs<br/>- charcoal chicken<br/>- lamb sharwama pizza<br/><br/>Everything on the menu is a must try!!<br/><br/>10/10 all the way round!

We booked a very large function at this restaurant in the hope that it would live up to its reputation. We were sadly mistaken.<br/>We had previously agreed on a banquet menu including beer wine and soft drinks, to be included. When we arrived, the tables were barely set with plates and cutlery, hardly any mezza and no drinks in sight.<br/>We hoped that as our guests arrived this would change however things went from bad to worse, where a simple request for water took up to 30mins. <br/>Our guest had to resort to going down stairs and requesting these things themselves. There were two waiters to service over 100 guests. The restaurant was clearly not coping with this however they were still accepting customers for tables down stairs. <br/>By the time the hot food was brought up we’d been sitting around for two hours, most of the time watching our messily mezza plates because they had only allocated one small portion of bread for each table of 10-12. When the mixed grill finally came out there were nine portions for a table of 12! At this point we had given up on complaining. <br/>The only saving grace were the desserts and the DJ that we had organised ourselves. Once the party was over the owner gladly took our money with no apologies, it was only once we had questioned what had happened? That the owner blamed being understaffed, however was generally unconcerned. <br/>I personally cannot understand these positive reviews as a number of other food review sites described our terrible experience... collusion perhaps?<br/>Never again will be coming to this restaurant.

World class Lebanese Cuisine at my doorstep. I have searched high and low for a elegant, boutique, Lebanese restaurant and finally came across Gebran. The service is fantastic and evidently family owned, the vibe is so pleasant and inviting. Upon our first visit, the owner, John, introduced himself to our table, explained the dishes where he then found out it was our first time at Gebran. Before you know it he had a special dish sent to us - falafel wrapped in prawns presented on an amazing plate - compliments from him! It was amazing and it was the first time we had anything of its kind. It wasn't even on the menu! Boutique beers and wines while you are transported to Lebanon, amazing cuisine, all just 20 minutes away from home - each visit is magical and I couldn't ask for anything better. Well done team!

Best Lebanese Cuisine. Food is fantastic. Service is flawless. I've taken hundreds of friends there and never left disappointed. They serve the freshest sashimi. So fresh that it gives Japanese restaurants a run for their money.<br/>Ask for the 'confusion salad'- hands down, the best salad you'll taste in your life.

Best Lebanese Cuisine. Whether feeling like authentic Lebanese cuisine or seafood Gebran Lebanese Cuisine is the answer. It never fails to impress with the great tasting food, beautiful presentation, and great customer service. All within a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend it.

Definitely Sydney's best Lebanese food. This restaurant is definitely Sydney's best place for Lebanese cuisine. <br/><br/>The food is always fresh and portions are very generous. The platters are great value, but the two banquet options are probably the best pick, with a whole range of fresh Lebanese dips, salads, meat and chicken skewers.<br/><br/> The restaurant is very clean and service is always great.<br/><br/>Food can be enjoyed with a great beverage list which includes Lebanese beer and wine.

Amazing!. Best Lebanese cuisine in all of Sydney, fresh ingredients, friendly and attentive staff, we felt like we were dining at a friends house, fantastic entertainment and even though there we were only a group of four, the food served could have fed ten. Excellent value for money.

I give it a 5 star rating. The Atmosphere is great, you really feel like you are amongst family. The food is fantastic and well priced. I go to many Lebanese restaurants as I am always invited out but Gebrans really is a great night out!

Value for money - no. We had our christmas party at this restrauant on saturday 06/12/14 for a party of 10. It was the $55.00 banquet see listed. From this menu we did not get the BBQ prawns. It also listed unlimited soft drinks on our arrival we asked for 4 jugs of soft drink which we got but did not get anymore to drink for the rest of the night. We also had to eat our remaining meals in between the dirty dishes from the starters. Food was fine but very very overpriced for what we received on the night. I t was very hard to get the wait staff to even come to our table basically we were ignored for the night<br/><br/>Royal Banquet (minimum 4 people) - $ 55.0ppHommas , baba ghannouj , labne , shanklish , arnabit , pickles & olives , kibbeh naye , tabbouli , rocca salad , fattoush , bizri , makanek , kbekib & sambousik (meat & cheese), halloumi cheese , shawarma , BBQ prawns , mixed grill (meat , chicken , kafta ) & lebanese coffee.

Dined here with a group of 12. We waited a while before having to ask 3 times to 2 different waiters for our order to be taken. They both seem uninterested and not helpful. Food was great, service wasn't.

Sydney diner. I had a function at gebrans and the service was very slow. Only 1 waiter in the rooms for 80 guests. Very embarrassing on my part and we had to keep asking for food to be served.
Ns
Very disappointed. I came to Gebran with two friends for dinner last night. The night started off with being seated in a room ventilated by only two doors yet inhabited by smokers. We waited 15 minutes for a menu which only came when we asked and, wait for it, we only got one menu for the three of us. The place wasn't even that busy.<br/><br/>Then the meat platter came out. The lamb was clearly mutton and consequently indigestible, the serving was sparse and the plate was huge and covered with boring lettuce.<br/><br/>The mixed grill was similarly disappointing and contained mini servings of hummus and garlic dip.<br/><br/>To top it off, those dishes cost a bomb. We were extremely unimpressed.<br/><br/>Question: how does this place survive when better and more food is sold for half the price in lakemba?<br/><br/>Question: if you're from the city or north shore, why bother travelling to this place when you can get exponentially better food on Cleveland Street?

Best Lebanese food in Sydney. Have been to a number of Lebanese restaurants in the inner west and Gebran is by far the best I have eaten at. We tried a range of dishes - the fattoush was fresh and full of flavour, haloumi to die for, delicious salt and pepper quail and perfectly cooked BBQ prawns and calamari. Fresh Lebanese bread and dips and we were in heaven. The warm and welcoming and staff made it a wonderful evening.
