Review Jetty Road Fish And Chips Barwon Heads - Barwon Heads

Stunning location and great food Walk up and order, go back for a swim and then come back and pick up your meal without having to leave the beach. What could be better? Phone orders give you an accurate time to pick up The menu is small and pricer but speed and convience is well worth it on a hot day

Great location right near the water. Simple menu. Food was tasty and good portion size. Maybe slightly over seasoned with salt.
Brad Rathbone
Good food. Quality location. Staff were good.

We didn’t go because the menu posted didn’t have flake, why not? Don’t like blue grenadere , no whiting either!

There was a group of us so we had the set menu. Every entree served was incredible. Salmon ceviche was the stand out as well as the cauliflower. Amazing flavours. The mains were a bit of a comedown after the entrees. I had fish and chips which were heavily fried, the lobster burgers looked good but i did not have any. Dessert was very rich.

The friendly staff were welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious and we particularly liked the coffee blend they used. Sitting by the window we enjoyed the views over the water.

A great day held there today for 20 of us. A variety if enterees and mains were ordered including flathead, Barramundi & a char grilled prawns.. Service and food very good. I also recommend the Barwon Heads Lager. A good drop.

Enjoyed a lovely lunch here today. Staff were super friendly and attentive. For entree enjoyed wagyu carpacio and the potato bread. Had the classic flathead fish in beer batter and chips for mains. 3.5 stars.

We came here for family Lunch and the place were so busy, we ordered various dishes but the highlights were beef carpaccio, tuna tartare and the soup, the presentation were also very impressive. I think we were too hungry and scoffed our food down. Totally forgot to take photos but rest assured it was good. And the<br/>view from the restaurant was amazing, looking out to the bay.

Came here over Easter Long Weekend. Staff were great - we were served by Steph, so thank you Steph! Love the decor and nautical vibe.<br/>Only small note would be the croquettes we ordered to start weren't very hot in the centre, but good none the less.<br/>Cauliflower was great and the mussels are delicious, although came with only one slice of bread. No issue, we ordered the potato loaf to soak up some of the sauce, it's just such a large serving of mussels to only have one piece of bread!<br/>Would happily recommend to anyone looking for a place for a drink, some snacks or meal in the area.
Some Like It Hot
Had the squid and the batter was definitely under. Couldn’t taste the Szechuan spice. We mentioned this and it got taken off our bill. Also had the pumpkin steak which we did like. Nice venue, friendly service and good view. It’s a little pricey. As a result of the service, I’d give them another try.

A very nice restaurant with fabulous views, attentive and professional wait staff, but most of all, amazing food. Our table saw a mixture of seafood platters, mussel pots, burgers, pastas and multiple other dishes that were beautifully cooked and presented. It was busy, but peaceful and we will return. It was the perfect place for a lovely lunch.

Great location and views , great food and service . We had snapper and $20 steak ( Wednesday’s only ) . The Panna cotta dessert was to die for. Highly recommend

On a family holiday, had heard rave reviews about this place, popped in for a morning coffee, had to wait 40 minutes for half of the coffee order arrive, the second half didn’t arrive at all!!! Even after politely asking 2 separate staff

Beautiful location. Could not ask for better!<br/><br/>We came here for dinner on a Thursday night without a reservation and got a great seat by the open doors. The food came a little slow but in a location like this you don't really mind. We ordered the lobster and beef burger, whole baked flounder and finished up with the sticky date. My flounder was delicious but the broccolini was a bit too charred. Likewise my partner's beef burger was overcooked and overwhelmed all other flavours in the burger. The sticky date was too dense but still tasty. That being said the chips were superb and the staff friendly and obliging.
Foodisgood
Only had a snappy drink here after a nice walk to the bluff. A bit pricey, but hey, service was fine and the view, well refer to the photos. Get to the outside area if you can. Stunning.
Whats On The Grill?
Perfect beach restaurant - one whereby you can go to after a sandy day on the beach and go in for a casual but good feed. Spacious with great views & friendly staff. Had the wagyu & lobster burger which was good without being amazing & a schooner of beer. Good spot.

Went there for our family dinner last night , great view , food average and expensive. Tuna not fresh can taste abit smelly. Friendly staffs but until 8pm you can see most of the staffs started to looks tired and no energy to serve customers.

Great location, beautiful views and attentive staff. All of our meals were fresh, beautiful and well cooked. Lovely summer flavours paired with great wine and beers, couldn't recommend enough

Was very nice. Great staff, great food, entree, main and dessert was all really nice.<br/><br/>Food was quick to come out and tasted great.<br/><br/>Would go back again.

We had not been here for over two years and the standards have not dropped in that time. My wife's pulled pork burger was in her words"delicious". My flat head and chips (my bench mark fish for judging coastal restaurants) was more than adequate. The chips were nice and crispy and the fish well presented. Why oh why do modern restaurants insist on serving designer salads with various greens and other additions when iceberg lettuce, good tomatoes and a bit of red onion with a bit of simple olive oil and balsamic vinegar is all we need. The salad should not compete with the rest of the meal.

This restaurant is in a great location right on the Barwon River with ocean surf views.<br/>The staff are attentive, friendly and professional.<br/>There is an extensive drinks menu with many local wines and a good selection of beer.<br/>I had the mussels which were delicious, plentiful and fresh. My wife had calamari which she also enjoyed.<br/>The dessert menu looked pretty good but we had both eaten enough with the mains.<br/>It is a little noisy but this was probably to be expected since it was a busy Sunday lunch.<br/>Well worth a Sunday drive down to Barwon Heads for lunch.
Jesse & Kyra
We had breakfast here, it was good without being great. Food looked great but didn't have much flavour. Brilliant location though and great place for coffee and cake
Chris
It's a great spot and the room has been brightened and freshened up since we were there last. Breakfast this time - left disappointed and probably won't bother again. Average eggs / ordinary thin toast - nothing wrong with it but nothing to bring one back either. A pity because if it was it might be worth enduring service ranging from pedestrian to arrogant. You can do better with your hard earned.

Beautiful afternoon lunch with our best friends. I had the confit of pork and the panna cotta. Both were superb as was the service. Would highly recommend this place

Very pretty restaurant with yummy food!!<br/><br/>Went there for lunch with my boyfriend yesterday. It was on Wednesday afternoon so it wasn't busy at all. At the heads have 2 separate menus for outside and inside table. The restaurant decorations was so pretty. Modern classic design with amazing breath taking view. I ordered 2 entrée and 1 main sharing between me and my boyfriend which was a Tuna in jar (i love this dish so much) very fresh akami tuna in yummy yuzu ponsu sauce with crunchy tempura crumb on top. Beetroot cured salmon was ok but the presentation of this dish was bang on, very pretty and i love that they put ikura on top of the salmon. Confit pork belly was delicious. The pork belly cook to perfection very tender and it went well with kohlrabi slaw and apple purée so much. I have to admit that the price was little bit pricey but worth it. <br/>The staff was friendly and nice.

We went here for my 30th birthday dinner, were given a great table with a water view. Service was swift and the waitress gave us great options to try even reciting the beers on tap from memory. Food was amazingly fresh and came out quickly. The owner was on deck and on the ball. We had the house cured king salmon which was lovely and fresh. And then the squid ink and prawn linguini which was to die for, fresh with a slight chilli bite, just enough for two to share. The cocktails were also great I would recommend the pimms cup and the frosty bite. Pricing a little bit expensive for what was on offer, but not over the top. <br/>Only thing missing was a restaurant signature seafood platter and the option of oysters kilpatrick, if these were on the menu we would have ordered them no worries. Would love to see this option on the menu next time.

Went to the At The Heads today for lunch. While the food was delicious it was significantly over priced for what you receive. The service was good and the views perfect.
Team_wine_n_dine
Arrived at 7:00PM and were advised that the restaurant was fully booked. We decided to give the bar food a shot as we had already driven 30min. The food was not worth the drive. The crab in the soft shell crab burger was over cooked and the bun was burnt black. We noticed other customers around us complaining about the food and the service especially - we were there for an hour and 15 minutes and noticed that the whole time there was at least 5 tables of 2-5 seats empty. We weren't even offered the option of having a drink in the bar and then being moved inside to a table. We understand that we were seated in an area that was "un-serviced" however it doesn't seem right that we weren't even provided with cutlery when our food was basically thrown at us by the rude staff - one we even witnessed openly rolling his eyes at an elderly customer once questioned about the amount of wine he had received. Wish we had of read the reviews on here before going.
Goodfoodmatterstome
Enjoyed a nice light lunch today with my wife. Fish n chips were great - lovely fresh flathead and crunchy chips. The gnocchi was strange as it was one large piece and not as expected. At 12 noon they were sold out of oysters which was both strange and disappointing on a Sunday lunch. Food came out quick but service was substandard given the number of staff floating about the place. They need some training there I say
Live_in_melbourne
Enjoyed the food and the view very much. It was nice to dine here in such a nice weather. This place was super busy but food came really quick. My safe choice is fish n chips, can't go wrong with that!
Duck2610
Went here on a busy long weekend with a few friends. The place was buzzing! We sat on the couches looking out to the heads and shared most of the menu between us. Stand outs calamari and the tuna, yum! Drank some great local wine too.

Be aware that your booking is likely to get abandoned in favour of functions. Tried to book here twice. First time I called continuously the day in advance and could not get through. Assumed that it was walk up, but arrived to find a function taking place. Second time was much worse. Booked two months on advance for Father's 60th. Whole family has booked accommodation nearby to come to the restaurant. We were notified two weeks out that our booking has been cancelled infavour of a more lucrative wedding booking that night. No disclaimer at point of booking that this might have happened (Actually as per the previous time we were unable to cach anyone on the phone and had to book online). Can't comment on restaurant quality as both times I've not been able to get in!

Have been coming to at the heads since it first opened, what has happened to this iconic venue??? Wish I had of read the reviews before going today, we would of still gone but only ordered a drink and enjoyed the views.  The food is like other reviewers have said overpriced... and just a rip off really bland.  We were hungry and had a drive back to Melbourne after so still ate it, have never given a review before so I hope the team at the heads start to take the feedback your getting on board  C'mon at the heads get it together and produce some flavoursome food your better than this and people want you to be better than this.

Very disappointed  over priced & a very ordinary meal booked in for dinner my husband ordered lobster tails and macaroni. It looked like a just tasted like macaroni cheese void of lobster tail ( 5 sml pieces in total) $36. Side of salad limp iceberg at $5 ) I had fish pie tinned salmon a couple of prawns and that was it $32 want be going back any time soon.

This place has so much potential and is in an ideal position on the water. It's a shame it's just shit. I can't believe that a restaurant that close to the sea has no seafood platter! Very limited and unusual menu that doesn't make the most of the beautiful seafood available in Barwon Heads. Drinks were crazily over-priced and the atmosphere isn't anything near what it could be considering. Lift your game At the Heads, or sell the restaurant to someone who will help it become what it should be #gregontour
OGfoodie
Same beautiful place, new upbeat and scrumptious menu! I'd recommend booking if visiting during the holidays if you wish to eat in the restaurant. But the bar menu is just as delicious and is perfect with a few cocktails with friends on a Friday night.
KarlL
The best view on the coast ideal location for a pleasant lunch BUT!!!!!!!!!! The food over priced, lack taste, small serves.. Since when does fish and chips with salad cost $25.00 really and the salad only lettuce leaves. Chips that was a mix of small dried up ones with fresh, salmon dish $28.00 salmon, cucumber yoghurt ... That's it.. Kangaroo dish meat, grilled Lebanese eggplant with stalk attached and jus $34.00 steak dish, potatoes $36.00. Then after all, one dish got forgot and had to ask by which time everyone on the table had finished ... Disappointed

Massive improvements in food and overall feel at this restaurant since getting new owners. Between 6 of us we almost covered the menu - very impressed with every meal.

Great views, have a drink and then go elsewhere to eat.DO NOT ORDER THE PRAWN COCKTAIL - Prawns - 250gm of whole prawns, this includes the head, tail, shell etc.  (you have to clean them) they definitely were not fresh you could tell by the eyes.  The lettuce a few ripped pieces of iceberg lettuce was going brown on the edges (cleaned hours earlier).  Sauce was in a little bowl on the side - some may call it a deconstructed prawn cocktail - I call it cheap!!We ordered the avocado hummus dip - it had a fizzy texture in your mouth - hummus had gone off!  The manager just short of admitting it - kept apologising, gave us back our money for this and could not get rid of us quick enough.Manager walked past and said how about a bit more bread with your meal, we thought great what a nice gesture.  He charged us $5.00!  It was his suggestion, not our request! The rest of the food was okay but others do it much better.  The only thing this place has in its favour is the view.  We have been here before and were disappointed.  Somehow we thought maybe this time it would be different - it was not.

Please enjoy a drink & the view but eat elsewhere! How can a restaurant expect to be taken any where near seriously as a food destination when a simple entree (avocado dip) was off? ($9) the 250g prawn cocktail was simply 6 prawns (very difficult 2 remove vein) over discoloured iceberg lettuce ($18) & no bowl of water! The calamari dish was ok but nothing to jump up and down about. The waitress started removing our dishes before we had finished..... I don't go out to eat often so look very forward to something special. I should have read other reviews. My fault!

Tiniest amount of icecream i have ever bought for $4. No waffle cones either. Ordered an ice coffee for $5 - tiny little thing, regular coffee cup but only 3/4 cup full, mostly filled with ice. They had no vanilla icecream so told us theyd put another flavour in... didnt see any. Waste of money, wont go back

Lovely spot right on the river, staff always seem to be very happy to be there and love a good chat and joke with the customers. The food is always outstanding. Never had an off meal. Cakes fridge is always full and looking great. <br/>The new uniform is very beachy and looks great With the blue and white stripes and the grey aprons. <br/>I am yet to have a bad experience here.
Lucas Mullin
Food significantly overpriced for what it is, plated nicely but flavours very simple. Steak was cooked well but lacked any seasoning and the red wine jus had no flavour. Chicken dish was quite bland. Other dishes we saw didn't look any better. Service was friendly but food took 60mins to arrive. Great location & setting is the only reason to eat here.
Anita Hamilton
Stopped for a drink & a snack. Ordered chips, calamari, and a schooner of 'Furphy'. The beer was good, the chips were great (big fat & hot), the staff were friendly, the view was gorgeous but the calamari was unfortunately mushy and overpriced for the volume.

Booked a table short notice, had the best view with required sunglasses! Service was terrific and our lunch spot on. It's has a busy holiday vibe with a relaxing atmosphere.
Out And About
Phenomenal view but awful tea! We had 3 Earl Grey teas and they were so bad we took all 3 back! The olives were nice but there was a hair in the platter... <br/>Amazing hardwood floor boards though👍

This place could be amazing, instead it's terrible. Food is very average, service also average and where this place could be a fine dining/somewhere special place it is cheap interior with over priced average food. Won't return. Our whole tables eggs Benedict were hard boiled and when asked for new eggs we were made to feel like idiots!

I would have felt less robbed if a gang of men in balaclavas came in and stole $28 from my back pocket. Asked for a gluten free dinner meal and was charged $28 when they provided two slices of gluten free bread (no butter) and a small plate containing a few small turnips and some slightly distasteful lemon sauce. Avoid at all costs unless you have an appetite for serviettes and a microscope to see your food. The view was beautiful, I've gotta say...shame we couldn't enjoy it for longer than 20 minutes because I needed to get home for dinner.

Fantastic night for all, Wednesday Steak Night from 6pm.<br/>Have a wine or beer at Happy Hour 5pm to 6pm and move to a table for dinner. <br/>Steak as you like it, staff terrific and ambience fantastic since new owners 3 weeks ago. <br/>Give Steak Night a go, $20, don't miss it.<br/><br/>Maz

Disappointed. Booked a table here for breakfast with my wife to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and left very very disappointed. It began well with nice coffees but that was the only positive. The waitress promptly took our orders before my wife and I waited the best part of 45 minutes before we noticed that other patrons who were seated after us were eating their meals and departing. My wife queried the waitress but she just blamed the kitchen (order lost obviously) and we were then told our meals would be a further 10 minutes. When our meals did eventually turn up a whole hour after ordering them we were both very disappointed by the sub standard quality. My wife's meal which was eggs benedict was so poorly done that the hollandaise sauce was too runny to use a fork and the side order of spinach ( they forgot that too) was obviously microwaved and not even drained of fluid before being handed over in a seperate bowl. Both our meals had obviously been slapped together very quickly. <br/><br/>What made it worse was we made it very clear that we weren't happy with either the service or the food and there wasn't even an offer of free coffees or an apology. <br/><br/>My wife and I left both agreeing to never return. Thanks At The Heads for ruining a day we had been looking forward to.....we won't be seeing you again
Katy Wei
The food was terrible. Mini seafood platter was all deep fried. Kids menu fish chips is same as adult fish & chips, so save your money just order children's one. Waiting over an hour for our main meals is a bit long. We will not go back there again.
Not-easily-pleased
Food is a bit unpredictable but not bad. But what it might lack slightly in food quality, it makes up for 10 fold in setting and atmosphere. You just can't beat this location. We keep coming back!
Paul.brock
Best food with the best view. Frankly, it's this simple. If you travel to the coast, it's to be close to the water and have water views. You don't have those views in a back street, where you could be in any town in Victoria. And the local pub is a TAB inspired, overpriced, sticky carpet special. This place has pleasant staff, good service and great food. And the best outlook in Barwon Heads. Good value too!
Paul_in_france
Great value and great food. What a great welcome we received from quick and competent staff last night. Hungry children rapidly fed a generous three course meal for a measly $10. Certainly not three $ prices. We arrived late but were welcomed and never rushed to finish. We will certain return.
FrenchFamilly
It was sunday night, cricket final, and we were happy to find a place ready to welcome the 12 of us (lots of kids), and contrary to some reviews here, the food was good; mussels, caesar salad, chicken parmigiani among others received a thumb up!
Ashlea Barlow
Waited over an hour after ordering for our breakfast even though the restaurant was practically empty. When our food came it was all over cooked and cold and they forgot one order all together. The staff were not very apologetic and didn't seem to know or care about their customers happiness. Whole table left without paying, will not be returning.
Tersil
Disappointed. My husbands parma was raw, my brocolli was yellow & my mums seafood platter was soggy not to mention over priced. The bathrooms were dirty & the windows filthy, the restaurant has gone down hill, such a shame as it was once a great restaurant to sit & enjoy the beach view.
Elle
Worst food with the best view in town. Gorgeous 180 degree views of Barwon heads and it's iconic bridge. However, as a breakfast spot, this place is well below average. Go for a coffee (maybe cake if you don't mind industrially produced sweets) and scram. The breakfast menu is so limited, if you don't like eggs or plates of fruit, you'll go hungry. But that's better than ordering the food. Don't bother ordering sides. You'll need a microscope and a bank loan to buy them. 2 horrid overcooked mini mushrooms for $4!! or 1/4 a rotting avocado for the same price is insulting at best. Portion sizes are below average, which is why you need the sides and which also hikes a below-average size meal with below average presentation to $20. Coffee was ok. Boosted only by the view. Do yourselves a favour and go into town to multiple other places. They don't have the view but they will be far less disappointing.
Lindsay
I attended a wedding and reception at At The Heads so my review is not representative of the normal restaurant experience. The location is fabulous- the wedding ceremony was on the foreshore followed by dinner inside. The views from the restaurant are wonderful. The serving staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was very good quality and nicely presented.
Doctorjbright
Kind of a disappointment. Went there to enjoy the menu that we found online, considering how much of the stuff we liked in the online menu we had high hopes. When we got there we took one look at the menu and saw that, not only was it entirely different (and I mean literally nothing of the online menu was available) but there were no sides on the menu and only two entrees.<br/>So that was cool.<br/><br/>It took us a little while to order because we were thrown for a loop from what we had expected but even then it took an hour from when we sat down to get our entree of bread with dip, and when we did the greens that came with it looked wilted like they had been under a heat lamp for at least 15 minutes. Our mains took about 20 minutes after that, and again seemed like they had been under a heat lamp for some time, and the food was... kind of the literal depiction of "meh". Average, nothing particularly good but nothing very bad, although I received no finger bowl for my king prawns so I had to go the rest of dinner with prawn-smelling hands.<br/><br/>The atmosphere was underwhelming, no dinner cloths on the tables and no music playing was very odd and overall it just had a feeling of impatience, like they didn't really want us there. It was clear from a lot of things that the staff did lunch, coffee and probably breakfast stuff very well but it felt more like a café than a restaurant for a nice couples dinner.
Karynmkremer
Great food and great kids menu. After reading the reviews we were hesitant to have dinner here but my experience was fantastic. The kids meals are huge and include drink and ice cream for only $10. The prices are reasonable and our meal was great. We experienced great service and helpful staff. My daughter said' the cooker is great here mum' . We will be back.
Michelle
Excellent views, ambience food, service and wine. Could not fault it excellent service, great food and an amazing view

A big thumbs up lunch at the heads. After reading all recent negative reviews we thought we would give at the heads a shot to form our own opinion.we were pleasantly surprised. The service was prompt and the staff courteous. The place was buzzing but the staff were attentive.<br/>There was something to please every one the mini sea food platter was generous in its variety. The chicken parma was huge and moist. The Calamari was tender and tasty weigh a walnut salad. The slideres slid down nicely. The dips were generous and tasty. The kids devoured their pasta. The chips were A1 the best we have tasted on the Bellarine this summer.<br/>The kids meal with drink and generous serves of ice cream for$10 was excellent value.meals were delivered promptly. Will definitely return.
Andrew Whan
Nice location - hopelessly slow food - almost an hour and a half for our mains to arrive! Food is ok. Good kids menu
Dansmith6
Dan Smith. Have been to this restaurant over the past few years whilst on holidays at Barwon Heads. This year I asked whether the restaurant had changed hands.very noisy, slow service and food just at a star 3,star standard. I hope this restaurant can get back to a five star standard. For one, I'm prepared to pay for that.
Luv_bug_1357
Over-priced- great location. Waited over an hour for a meal, only for it to be returned to the kit iced for a full refund. Wait staff innexperienced and in important. Meals are very over priced, a basic chicken parmi was over $26. Won't be returning.
Katieturner
Rude unhappy staff. Such a shame the service is so bad as the location is stunning. We got a coffee with used teaspoon, when my husband asked the waiter for a new teaspoon as he was collecting dishes he said "can't you see I've only got two hands". We were less than impressed. Cold coffees. Babycinno made of cold milk. Waited over 1/2 last week for a juice!
Kate
Terrible dinner - nothing positive about this place except the view.. The only good thing about this place was the waiter. We left this fantastic location feeling ripped off. The food had no flavour . The salt and pepper calamari was terrible, no flavour wasn't hot, not sure where the salt and pepper went. It sat on a boring salad. The steak while not bad had no flavour lacked seasoning, the alleged potato fondant was in fact a shaped roast potato. For dessert the lemon tart was dry sitting in the fridge for too long, the profiterole has a slop of cream and chocolate sauce. There was no presentation. This meal was very disappointing, the waiter was very accomodating giving us dessert for no price but it too was bad. Such a bad impression of a lovely place. There is no care, taking advantage of holiday goers with bad food. Don't go there!!
Ricky_riccardos
BAD SEAFOOD PLATTER FOR OVER $100. We have been Going Here for Years and i Always get atleast one seafood platter for two this Time it was so BAD i Don't wont To go Back we also Got rushed out as they needed room for a wedding.Nice location buts Thats it don't wast you're time or money

We had a big family reunion and booked a table for 12 for breakfast. We booked based on the fabulous location but unfortunately that was the only positive. Menu choices were very restricted. For example couldn't just order bacon and eggs. Was told could take things off a menu item (for the same price) but couldn't add things. Coffee was un-drinkable. Will not ever bother to go back.
Kiara Davis
The location is the only good thing...Went here for dinner and was told on arrival that there was no garlic bread and no soup... We ordered drinks and entree and mains. The menus was limited with only about 5 choices for each. The entree was mediocre and the cocktail tasted like plain juice. We were then told that the main meal I had ordered was sold out too! I ordered the pork belly... Big mistake. The food came out and the steak was well cooked but for an expensive meal it had a big price of gristle right down the middle. My meal was burnt... Actually burnt on the top and bottom. I had to send it back. The waiters were good but the kitchen certainly leaves something to be desired. The chairs are falling apart and the building is filthy. Cobwebs and crumbs everywhere. What a shame. This place definitley is uses it's location to lure diners. Won't be returning.
Jbennett
Poor service and terrible food. Slow service. Unhappy staff. Warm white wine. Steak overcooked. Too much bland white sauce. Unable to eat seafood marinara. Sauce thick and tasteless. Seafood overcooked. Limited menu. Not spring ingredients. No wonder Barwon Orange is fully booked tonight and At The Heads is empty despite the warm temperature. Every time i come here I am disappointed. Please improve. Great scenery.
Nataliej-
Dog food. Ordered eggs Benedict and a big breakfast. From the moment it came out it all looked reheated and sloppy, poached eggs were practically hard boiled. Cold coffee. Asked for more eggs and waited 20 minutes before getting up and asking for the manager who wouldn't come out. Still had to pay for hardly touched meals. Will never go back. Disgustingly dissappointing.

Worst service and food. We dined at the heads for lunch yesterday and would never return or recommend this venue. The only good thing is the view. The service is poor after an hour we had to ask for our entree of dips and bread. We were told they had mixed up our order. When it arrived bread was stale and was one dip on the plate with old olives. For $26 this was a disgrace. When mains came the salads were limp and old. A pub meal would have been of a better standard than what we were served. The venue inside is old and needs updating. The highchair provided for my child was unhygienic and looked like it had never been cleaned. I never write reviews but because eit place was so disgusting I feel I should warn other people not to waste their time or money dining there.

Disappointed!!!. Very disappointed, had lunch here on Sunday for Father's Day, we arrived just before 3pm. Ordered fish and chips, one risotto and two moo burgers. The fish and chips was loaded with Luke warm chips and two tiny pieces of fish and limp soggy salad. They did nursing out fresh chips when I complained that it was cold. The risotto was tasteless, like it was watered down. The meat burgers were also fairly tasteless. For what we received we could of had a better meal at a fish and chip shop and cheaper. The fish and chips alone was $28.00. I don't mind paying for good food and service. But that is bot we received. Would be coming back here again..

No food available today. Couldn't find a open bar for a beer. No wonder places go out of business. What a waste if time

Waste of a beautiful location!. The view is gorgeous but the food is average and very over piced. However, the main problem is the service. The waitress took half an hour to take our order and our meals took another hour to come. As most people's meals were being served, one of our party was told his meal was unavailable! So after waiting for an hour and a half he ended up with soup and bread. He wasn't charged but would have preferred the opportunity to order something else. I did not feel that the staff were very apologetic either. I will not bother to go back.
Craig_olsson
Crap. Ordered two seafood platters, very disappointed. Will never go there again.
Natto
Extreme disappointment!. No positives. complete and utter disappointment and the bill of $195 without a bottle of wine for only 2 people was he clincher.
Esdee
Mediocre. What a waste of the best location in town. Nothing is seriously wrong here, but everything's just average. Bland food and bland service... even the fruit platter was all beige!

At The Heads restaurant. Lots of staff, not many morning coffee drinkers, but still no one seems very helpful. They are obviously relying on the wonderful position on the Barwon river, without taking any responsibility for the environment. Cigarette butts littered the beach below, obviously from Sunday night before, but when approached, staff were less than interested and still not very busy. Plain lazy?

Never again!. Poor, slow, inattentive, forgetful, too- busy- to- be- friendly service.<br/><br/>A meal on the menu was unavailable.<br/><br/>Had to wait an hour and a half before any food arrived. <br/><br/>Food was poor. <br/><br/>Management gave excuses, no apologies. <br/><br/>Obviously the management relies on the beautiful location to attract people, but location alone is not enough for an enjoyable dining experience.

Loved it. Went to At the heads for lunch and couldn't fault it. Service was excellent, food was delicious and view was spectacular. Will definitely return

With the amazing and unique outlook that this resturant enjoys how could it possibly fail? Easy. Just order the food. <br/><br/>Cooking a medium rare steak should be bread and butter for a Chef. I ordered Porterhouse with prawns. I ate the prawns and the little part of the steak that retained any kind of pink, which was very little. <br/><br/>Medium rare? Nothing like it. More medium with some parts almost well done. The flavour of the meat was pretty much non existent. <br/><br/>My wife ordered the Gnocci which was unfortunately pretty rubbery and again lacking in flavour. <br/><br/>The children's meals were pizza with chips and salad. Adequate stuff. But if you are looking for a place that actually cares about the children's food in this area go to the Beach House on the main road. A really class place. The irony being that we went to At The Beach for a change as we always seem to go to the Beach House. <br/><br/>I told the waitress, who was lovely and very good, that my steak had been ruined, she agreed it was not good and she said she would speak to the manager. The bill arrived with a $10 discount. I had to point out that this was not a negotiation. The Manager took my meal off the bill. Obviously this should have been done initially and if he had actually looked at the quality of my steak perhaps he would have done. <br/><br/>Such a shame. A wonderful location. Whoever is responsible for what comes out of the kitchen needs to take a long hard look at this. <br/><br/>This resturant will no doubt continue to have customers because of the awesome location. It would be great if the food that came out of the kitchen was of a similar quality. Also, the Manager needs to appreciate that when you send out clearly sub standard food, it is not like selling a used car. There should be no negotiation. Sure, some people will try it on but he didn't even look at my steak before cutting $10 off the bill as if providing me with a meal of the quality befitting the price I was paying for it was acceptable to be a hit and miss affair. <br/><br/>Perhaps, if he had been bothered to come and see how my steak had left the kitchen, maybe he could exercise better quality control of what comes out from there. <br/><br/>This place is a terribly missed opportunity.

Horrible. Overcooked. Over priced. Underseasoned. Ordered the seafood platter and it was a disaster. Only ate half of it. When they asked for our feedback when paying we said we were very disappointed and he said sorry and walked away. Avoid.

Very Disappointing. We used to be frequent diners at "the Heads" until a couple of years ago - we decided to give it another chance last week. It was most disappointing - all 4 diners had food that was overcooked - I had the Chicken Pamigiana and it well overcooked (almost burnt) - and not cheap. Very disappointing - will not be returning.

Don't order seafood platter! We ordered two, crab and bugs not on platter, undercooked scallops, very ordinary.

At The Heads is an amazing setting on the water, but the service and staff attitude unfortunatly doesn't match, making this place a letdown.<br/>We went to At the Heads last week and vowed not to bother with the place again.<br/>When we arrived, everything seemed fine. We received the menu, ordered our meals and drinks. Our drinks arrived followed by our entrees, but our main meals seemed to be taking a very long time. We ordered a second round of drinks, and the waitress asked if we wanted to view the dessert menu, which I thought was strange considering that we had not received our mains yet. She then realised that we hadn't got our mains. At that point I suspected that she did not pur our order through. Approx 1 hour later, after watching all other tables get their meals, I asked the waitress to check how long before our meals would be readyout of the kitchen. She relied by saying that they will be next out and "not long now" which was a poor response. Our meals weren't the next out of the kitchen. At that point we had enough. The waitress made up some excuse that the kitchen were not happy with the cut of meat that they were cooking for me and wanted to offer me another cut of meat. All this after 1 hour of recieving entree. Restaurant wasn't even busy too. <br/>Please look for other options when organising dinner.

Disappointed. Why can't I find somewhere satisfying to eat over the Christmas break to eat? Food not good enough, service rude and its unfortunately embarrassing when you take friends for a night out and we could have gone to the local fish & chip shop for $20 instead of $200.....

Mr gastronomy. SHOCKING AGAIN<br/><br/>Foolishly thought we would try this eatery again, never again.<br/><br/>Service was sloppy, and inattentive. Plates, empty glasses not cleared, coffee ordered with desert and didn't arrive. Advised this was as a result of the bar being busy. Dirty glasses.<br/><br/>No drinks or menus offered on arrival, nor were the specials explained.<br/><br/>Chips were cold, steak overcooked, and mussels were awful. Deserts were tasteless.<br/><br/>$200 later (4 people) completely dissatisfied.<br/><br/>When approached a staff member to ask about our long lost coffees was told, "not my area "<br/><br/>Honestly, we eat out a lot, and it's the little things that make a difference. I can't find one positive with this place.....except the view, should have had fish and chips from the local shop, and sat on the peir. Would have been better service, and no doubt better food.

Great lunch. Went to At the Heads for a Saturday afternoon lunch with 6 others and after reading some of the other reviews was a bit concerned. No need, the food was good and well presented and we were well looked after by the staff. The room has a good atmosphere and the views are fantastic. We all had a great lunch.
Bananaman
The food is rather expensive, but it's worth it if you have the available funds. Great view, too
Dr.J
Can no longer expect impressive food, usually below par. However, The views seem to always compensate for the overpriced menu. Out on the terrace in summer is hard to beat
Non Pretentious Food
Waited in a near empty restaurant for so someone to assist. Waitress stared blankly. Individuals behind bar did not help. So ended up leaving. Echoes similar experience earlier in the year

Port Lincoln Swordfish, smoked bacon, green beans & lime $25 Special. We live in Melbourne & came up for the day. <br/>I have stayed at Barwon heads caravan park many many times but never tried this place. I recommend it! My meal was delicious and having never tried swordfish I was impressed. My father bought the same meal as myself and polished off his bowl too! There was no wait that i was aware of & the prices were great for what is on offer. We all had a great time and the gentleman looking after us was lovely. Will def be coming back again and again! Ocean views are heaven

Check. 'Food' hours first. Top location. Great interior. Then, 11.15am Saturday "no food". Too late for breakfast (....aaah, but its the weekend,). Too early for lunch! Offered a slice of mass-produced looking cakes & a coffee - no thanks. Departed promptly. So, can't comment on food. How silly of us to think that this popular tourist location would have an all- day- breakfast option!!! Pity.
Kaye Bowen
Not impressed. Tried to have breakfast and had to wait for over an hour so would not recommend it

Up-market pub grub, but fine dining pricing. Keeps missing the mark. Ordered eight meals with two bottles of white-three beers and two kids drinks $435- woa

Underwhelmed. It is a lovely location, and nice view however inside leaves a little bit to be desired. <br/>I went for a mid week lunch and had the soup special, which was honey roasted carrot soup. When it arrives it was strangely yellow rather than orange and tasted like pumkpin soup, nothing really carrot-ish about it. It was nice but nothing special, could have been out of a packet, it had that kind of taste about it. It was a reasonably small serve of soup but came with a mountain on turkish bread sprinkled on garlic and herbs. <br/>My friend ordered the toasted turkish bread sandwich with smoked chicken cheese and avocado. The chicken was sliced chicken like that you would buy from the deli and barely resembles chicken, which is a bit cheeky in a sandwich worth $17. Unfortunately the chicken had gone in the sandwich my friend received and she had to send it back and swap for a soup. <br/><br/>The wait staff that we had were friendly and knew the specials.<br/><br/>The decor seemed a bit dated, I had heard good things about this restaurant but the space was dark and a bit dirty. There was a thick layer of dust on the enourmous and unattractive overhead fans. Cobwebs in the windows and all across the ceiling. The chairs were a strange choice for this light open space as they are dark and heavy looking, plus almost every secod one was broken.<br/><br/>Overall our lunch was average. Will possibly give it another go, but I think they could definitely give the place a bit of s spruce up. :-)
S.JO
Horrible! Ordered a rare steak and it came out medium then after sending it back the waitstaff started to be very rude and told my boyfriend (who is a chef of 15 years) that he was wrong and "the chef says this steak is cooked to perfect rare, and if he wanted it rare, next time he should order it blue" !!???!! Very very rude to argue with the customer and tell them they were wrong. Chef obviously has no idea what he is doing. We will never be going there again after that experience.

Great views but overpriced pub grub to be honest

What a magical location, we ate here for lunch on the weekend and although we didn’t have a booking we were accommodated. Staff were friendly and location Perfect (although we did cook sitting in the heat) Squid salad was cooked perfectly, would definitely dine here again.

Very disappointing. Have eaten here in the past and meals were reasonable. Recently had lunch there and was very disappointed. Felt I was paying exorbitant prices as it was holiday season. First time I have ever had chicken focaccia using sliced process meat. Lasagne was burnt and very dry. Gnocchi sauce separated into an oily sludge.

We went back for more!. Great value for money with a good down to earth menu for families or any groupings to be satisfied. A stand out in this area!<br/>Recommended.

Not Impressed (June 2012 and still not impressed). (Review also on Tripadvisor) Sunday 3rd June 2012 Approx 11.15am I rang this morning to get a table for 9 people ( family) at The Heads, Barwon Heads for 12.30pm... I rang and was assured that there would be a table for us... it wouldn't be in the main area but next room as the main area was booked... that was OK.<br/><br/>We arrived on time ( as we know how rude it is to arrive later than the appointed time) and was told that our table wasn't ready, would take about 5 minutes to get it ready and that the manager would come and get us when it was ready - as they had people on the table that was still there from breakfast..<br/><br/>So we ordered from the bar wine and beer and coffee while we waited. As we were standing near the fireplace and couches drinking our drinks... the manager comes up and tells us that in fact they have double booked... I quote the manager ..... 'Its our fault (restaurant's fault), but we are sorry'.... I said couldn't they arrange another table for us - and he said they had already put another table together... interesting that happened, as the people were being seated after we had arrived!<br/><br/>There were at least four tables unoccupied and I asked could we have them.... The manager said no, as there were people coming in for 12.30pm and also 1pm, I looked at my watch and it was now 12.45pm - no one had turned up! I said could they sit us down, we would order and then be gone ( we would of had a large family order) , no he said that couldn't be done.... He just said sorry but didn't give us any solution to the problem when it was the restaurant who had double booked.<br/><br/>I said why didn't you let us know that the restaurant was booked so we could of at least gone elsewhere and try again next time we were in the area.<br/><br/>I said something to the bar tender as they were still taking our money for drinks ( so us buying drinks were OK, but they wouldn't come up with a solution their problem to getting us a table when we had booked with a verbal confirmation over the phone that it was secure for us our booking!)... I had to keep suggesting solutions..<br/><br/>I asked to speak with the manager.... I said it was not good enough... we were extremely disappointed - he acknowledged it was their mistake ( but once again never offered solutions - oh sorry - sit on the couches to eat lunch!) I asked how long had the table (the one he said he had double booked us on) been booked and he said a week ago... So it if had been a week ago that it was booked why book us at all.....<br/><br/>I said the second room had plenty of floor space why couldn't they put tables together - he said he would check - by then we were just so unhappy with the whole experience...<br/><br/>They let us order drinks before telling us the fiasco - it still makes me very annoyed whilst typing this! why let us order drinks and stand around waiting for the table to be ready, then told it wasn't free - and nothing in the way of solution to fix it.....<br/><br/>We had traveled from Apollo Bay that morning and was leisurely traveling until I rang to book and then we hurried to get there...<br/><br/>Disgusted, disappointed and certainly will not be going back...<br/><br/>I work in Marketing and the old saying ... 1 unhappy customer will tell 10 others - well here it is for everyone...... There is now 9 people who will never come back....and I can assure you they will definitely be telling others....<br/><br/>Word of advice: - if you are going to book - ask if they first haven't double booked -otherwise you might arrive there and have no where to sit...... and maybe ring a few time to check and get them to take your phone number down so they could at least give you a courtesy call to let you know of anything like this happening again - I was never asked for mine - this could of all been avoided.<br/><br/>Not good form.....Not good service and extremely bad management....And a total waste of time... extremely disappointed.<br/>Visited June 2012

After being recommended to come by a lovely waitress at one of my favorite restaurants in ocean grove, I was overall very happy I came. The food - outstanding. Well done to the chef for creating such a beautifully put together menu. The atmosphere - extremely busy but who cares when the ocean is right next to you! The service - this was the main flaw, most seemed very young and inexperienced with little menu knowledge, like I said it was very busy but it seemed like there was more than enough staff on but no one interested in moving to get drinks/food/clearing, our clean plates layed out for about 30 minutes. Overall I enjoyed dining here but dome major staff improvements need to be made - possibly a manager to direct everyone???

Had dinner at the heads tonight with my partner and parents. Very unimpressed! Nothing good to say and we are locals. Won't be rushing back. Only good for a cool drink on the deck over summer, hasn't improved at all contrary to what some people have reported lately. We waited a good twenty minutes for our drinks to arrive, we asked for some cracked pepper for the pasta and were told "sorry we have run out". I'm sorry but what restaurant trying to offer a fine dining experience and certainly charging the prices don't have cracked pepper!? Instead we had two salt shakers on our table. Staff young and unenthusiastic. Amazing location though....just never got anything else right there

Silly Policy. I went for Breakfast Saturday morning, beautiful day, 9am.... only 3 others in the restaurant which surprised me.<br/>Glorious views, I could sit anywhere. Nice young bloke was the waiter.... However the menu stipulate NO CHANGES. I dont eat musrooms .. I didnt want sausage... the waiter almost embarrased said sorry, no changes whatsoever to the menu. I politely told him I would not eat there if I had to abide by someone elses choice of food and left.. So why would they do that.. are all the breakfasts frozen in Gladwrap or something.. The Edge in Newtoen was the sam and I never eat there either.
Manu
Absolutely loved it, we went for fathers day dinner and ordered the seafood platter for 2.. It was excellent, right up there with the best in Geelong as was the service, friendliness and not to mention the location... Wow... Will definitely be back

Great location, beautiful fresh food, very friendly staff. You should come and enjoy the whole experience, you won't be disappointed.

So disappointing. After hearing the restaurant had imrpoved recently a group of us went to check it out on a Friday night. The bar area was packed with people having drinks and listening to live music. Once we were seated it took a good 10-15 minutes to get menu's and ordre drinks, then we had to ask for our bottle of wine because it didn't arrive, and they brought over one glass. <br/>Two of us ordered steak (medium rare) and they were both brown the whole way through and very tough and the potato 'rosti' were dried up squares of potato. A friend ordered the oysters which were quickly returned as the whole table could smell they were off. someone else ordered the salmon whic was completely overcooked. <br/>There didn't appear to be a manager and the young staff were slow and unprofessional. For those prices the food needs to be improved as does the service.
Beth
Changed our minds!. Unfortunately something happened to At The Heads a little while ago...the fire and couches were pulled out and they made a terrible attempt at moving it to a fine dining restaurant...the food and service also went quickly downhill...<br/>After hearing the restaurant had returned to it's former self we gave it a go on saturday night and were very pleasantly surprised!<br/>The fire and couches are back providing a relaxed space to sit back, enjoy the view, and have a quiet drink. The atmosphere is once again relaxed and the staff knew what they were doing...we had a large group and sampled a lot of the menu- and not one person was disappointed...will definitely be heading back again soon!

We had a plesant experience. My family of four arrived without a booking and staff greeted us warmly and showed us to our.seats. We were attended to quickly and efficiently, all the while enjoying the night-time outlook of the bridge Mid way through my entree, our waitress noticed I had finished my drink and very attentively asked if I needed another. When our meals arrived they were delicious and the table was cleared when we had finished. Overall a very positive experience.

Just had a relaxing lunch with my daughter, Staff were friendly and attentive, didn't have to wait very long and it was quite busy, enjoyed a well made coffee after my lunch while soaking up the views and watching my daughter play in the sand just out the window.
Regular Diner
Disappointing. Incredible location but nothing met expectations beyond this.<br/>Our booking for 7pm was placed in the lunch register (resulting in a rear table when we went for the view), the food was over priced and poorly cooked with the pasta being under done and steak being well past the rare requested.<br/>Service was atrocious and appeared to be provided by unskilled back packers. Whilst friendly, they had no knowledge of the food or wine menus and their table service and lack of attention matched that of a low class food chain rather than a mid priced restaurant.<br/>Actually rethinking that comment, I think the service is actually better at a low class chain!<br/>This is the first time we have ever failed to tip but the service really did not deserve any type of reward.<br/>$100 per head very poorly spent, we won't be back

A visitor to Barwon Heads / Ocean Grove a group of us came to this resto at 11.30am. To our surprise they don't serve food until 12pm. We had to ask for the menu twice. Our orders came after an hour with a big disappointment, the steak came really overcooked like a rubber and had to pay almost $40 for that meal. Bad service, noone paid attention to our table eventhough we were so close to the counter and they had so many staff working on the floor. The only upside is the location & view. If you only want coffee I think you won't have a problem but to have a proper meal, plenty of other places nearby.

Wedding Reception at At The Heads. We held our cocktail style wedding reception for 110 at At The Heads in October 2011. Over all we were very happy with how the night went. <br/><br/>The venue changed hands around 6 weeks prior to the reception, which will always be a stressful situation, but it was handled reasonably well. We had some communication difficulties around this time but nothing too major.<br/><br/>The night went perfectly well, many people commented it was the best wedding reception they had ever been to. The location and view were spectacular and the venue looked great. The cocktail food was tasty, plentiful and easily available. Ditto the alcohol. The staff were well groomed and professional. The running of the night went like clockwork. We had a ball. <br/><br/>The event manager, Laura, did a very good job in the lead up to the wedding in sometimes trying circumstances. She was also was totally in charge and on the ball at all times on the evening itself.<br/><br/>I would recommend this venue to others considering a wedding reception or function..

Disappointing. Sunday lunch for four. Setting is great as always, but you just can't beat the locale. Staff were friendly, but did have some difficulty getting their attention sometimes, even though they were not flat out. Our meal took at least 45 minutes to come out and then only two of the four meals. The other two meals took another 15 minutes. Whilst the other three in our group we happy with their meals, mine was very disappointing. I had ordered spinach & ricotta ravioli, which was a main meal. Two problems. First the serving size would barely rate as passable for an entree. I don't mind if serving are small, but at $26 for a simple pasta dish, this serving was ridiculous and grossly overpriced. Second, I could not identify the spinach by either sight or taste. When I asked the chef why I could not see the spinach, he said it was 'not super green'. I would have been happy with ricotta ravioli, but it was advertised as spinach & ricotta, when it clearly was not, despite the chef's ridiculous comment. Overall, very disappointing due to delay in service, meals served at different times and the value and incorrect advertising of my meals. But, the other three were happy with their meals (salmon and mussel dishes) and the setting is great. I will go again, but I will grill the staff in detail about any dish I intend to order.

New Staff! New Menu! Give it a try!!!. Having recently dined At the Heads, firstly - what a beautiful location. Absolutley stunning. The new menu looks and from what I've tried - tastes delicious. The staff are quite friendly - slightly hit and miss, but from what I've been told there has been a totally new change of front of house and kitchen staff in the last month (seeing lots of new faces there as a local myself). I would definitlely reccommend giving it ago - there is alot of incorrect reviews here now - I was once put off from going back here, but I was told to try it again after dining at another restaurant in Ocean Grove, it's still finding its feet, but it has the potential to be a great place to take friends and family!
David
Went to the heads with my parents last week, beautiful food, lovely service!! What an exceptional experience!
Tina Ding
Like the new menu, very nice ! Very friendly staff, beautiful view. Definitely worth to go.
Bernie
This used to be great, but locals are ignored (no brunch??) and tourists treated like cattle. Very sad. Glad there are better options at Dunes, Beachhouse, Orange and more in Ocean Grove and Wallington

Massive disappointment. Just had dinner 'at the heads'. Beautiful location but terrible meal! Waited over an hour and a half for our main courses and when they arrived they were revolting! Pasta was undercooked, swimmer crab lasagne swimming in tomato soup. Didn't eat the meal and registered our displeasure with management who could not care a less! As regular holiday makers at Barwon Heads, I definitely won't be back. Cancelled our group booking for later in the week and let all our friends know why. For $173 what a waste. Came home and cooked ourselves a pancake

Living down the coast its easy to forget how beautiful it really is-until you walk into At The Heads, it is THE perfect location. But thats not the only reason why I am a regular here, the food is always amazing, especially the seafood platter. I could easily waste an entire day sitting on the deck. The service is only matched by the view.
Wocksie
Great setting and lunch. Went for Saturday lunch having driven up from Melbourne. The location is absolutely stunning and although other half mumbled something about 'Australia being an equalitarian society and how could a private restaurant own such a spot right on the beach', I don't agree as the public can walk all around it on the boardwalk or beach if they wanted to. Anyway. Loved the setting. Pretty rare to see anything like this in Australia to be honest I thought. And they could have charged me a lot more for the food just for the setting but the prices instead were pretty decent. Portions were slightly small perhaps but the food was lovely and because the prices were decent you could easily order an extra dish to share. Had the coconut crusted prawns, the flathead tails and the calamari plus coffee and cake for desert. All were lovely although the flavour of the prawns were not quite to my tasting unfortunately - nothing wrong with the quality, just one of those dishes that needs fine tuning perhaps to make it better. Most of the staff were very friendly and all were professional. Perhaps they could get told to clear tables/dishes on their way back to the kitchen perhaps. No rushing though and enjoyed a pleasant lunch here.

Mouth watering!. I have just returned from a holiday in Geelong catching up with friends and family.<br/><br/>My husband and I dined with some friends at "At the Heads" for a special occasion and were blown away, but not only how fantastic the place looked, but the food, service and amazing wine list. <br/><br/>All our meals were spectacular (with a special mention to the crab lasagne) and that combined with the incredible service we received made it a truly memorable night.<br/><br/>So much so that the following day, my husband and I returned with my parents for lunch. Having lunch instead of dinner, there was not one element that was any less special.<br/><br/>My only regret that I have had to return to the UK before I could have sampled their breakfasts!!<br/><br/>Kudos to the new managers/owners for reviving that iconic building and creating an amazing dining experience!

Disappointed. Used to go all the time, had a great atmosphere and happy hour which kept us there well into the night and for dinner on a Friday night. New management is not welcoming, and not interested in local business. No more taking our family for a nice dinner or breakfast once or twice a month, no more bands or sitting by the fire and having a drink, or mothers group long lunches. Apparently people who come with family block the view for the serious foodie.
John Muldet
Food is mediocre. Very pricey. Won't be back!

We recently celebrated our wedding At the Heads and it was EPIC! Food was beautiful, wine and beverages were perfect, staff were pleasant and friendly, atmosphere very relaxed and caring! Awesome day, brilliant venue, made our day so much more special and loving! Thanx to all crew At the Heads!!! xxxooo

The good and the bad. What a GREAT position and stunning views. But WHAT has happened to the staff and the atmosphere. The food is hit and miss, and the staff the same.. have had amazing service and then sometime so rude was tempted to get up and walk out.

Disappointed. We regularly holiday at Barwon Heads and will eat at At The Heads at least once each visit. I can't understand the overall positive reaction to the new management on this page, as, in my experience, the restaurant has gone downhill.<br/><br/>Of course it is still worth visiting for the lovely view, especially if you can get a table at the end of the restaurant, looking out onto the ocean. <br/><br/>Breakfast is not bad, but some dishes are just poor value (e.g. the fruit salad consists of four fruits, about five pieces each). I had the egg and bacon sandwich and would recommend that.<br/><br/>Dinner is horrendously overpriced for what you get (most mains are over $30). Due to the price, I went for the beef salad, which was so greasy, I had to wipe the oil off my lips after each mouthful. Disgusting. Another person in our party had the risotto, which was completely unappetising in its presentation and consisted mostly of giant chunks of mushroom.<br/><br/>Some coffees were good, others were clearly not what we ordered (we can tell when it's not double shot). Service was slow, clumsy and often unfriendly. A pity.
Meg
Good service friendly and warm. Dinner was good. Not excellent. We had the seafood platter it was yummy but the fish, calamari and salads were a bit oily. The crab and oysters were lovely. Great location we will come back.
Amy
At the heads now looks like a tacky airport lounge and completely ruins the fantastic beach atmosphere it's surronded by. Used to love coming to this place, the staff were always so happy, helpful and genuinely looked happy to be working...but not so much anymore. You can tell from just walking Into this place the new managment is tacky and stuck up.
Jill
Fan-bloody-tastic, everybody should make their way down here and enjoy the food and service by Donovan and David.

New management and they are doing a fantastic job, if you've been and didn't like it do yourself a favour and return.

My partner and myself went to the heads for dinner last night, beautiful new chairs and tables, beautiful food and lovely service!! The new owner should be proud, what an enjoyable experience!!!

GOOD. Eat at the heads all the time with my partner & we love it!<br/>Seeing all the new changes are exciting. Food has always been great. Now I am engaged we are hoping to have our wedding there next year!

Wedding Reception September 11. Congratulations to the new owners, management and staff of At The Heads on an excellent service at our daughters wedding on Sept 24th. <br/><br/>The food was delicious, promptly served with a minimum of fuss, in most pleasant surroundings.

At Long Last. Thank goodness for the new ownership. These new guys know how to run a restaurant. The food is beautiful and staff professional. Will definately go back...

New management makes the difference!!!. We went to the heads for breakfast on the weekend brilliant weather, great setting, fantastic food and generous size, prices are very good for the location and quality of the meals. I believe that the heads is now under new management and it seems to have made all the difference good on you guys hats off to you and keep up the good work. ill definitely be back!

Mary. Could not recommend this restaurant. A beautiful setting but expensive, poor service, mediocre food. We waited 90 minutes for our meals. The restaurant was not full, it was a cold Saturday night. We had looked forward to this but ended up going home for our dessert and coffee. Service very slow, waiter had to be asked to bring extra drinks, water etc. There seemed to be no one in charge to voice our concerns to as we left.

Go for the view, not the food. It's on the water. The sun lights the place up during the day, it colours the sky a purple-pink all around it at twilight.<br/><br/>Another restaurant on the same spot would be unbeatable. Unfortunately, At The Heads occupies the spot and that's where you need to be sitting to enjoy those breath-taking views.<br/><br/>Breakfast is less complicated and they handle that menu more competently. Lunch is okay - not spectacular but forgivable. Dinner is a mess best avoided.<br/><br/>The kicker is that, for the prices, the service and the ambience is a real rip. Order your drinks at the bar. Waif ages for table service. TVs blaring near the bar and dessert cabinet. None of it is a problem, unless you're paying the extra they charge you for the experience.<br/><br/>The reality is that there aren't that many options in the area and that you're going to keep going back for the location. I just wish they could do a vastly better job.

Perfect view. The heads is fantastic. Such an amazing view (better for lunch or early dinner to see the bay). Great variety with food choice. We got mainly seafood dishes that were cooked to perfection. Staff were very attentive too!<br/><br/>Highly recommend!

Changing Times. Nowadays the restaurant lacks enough staff to run efficiently and enough stock to call itself a restaurant. A massive waste since the location is great.<br/><br/>At The Heads used to be a fantastic experience for everyone.<br/><br/>The new owners have done nothing but run the restaurant and it's reputation into the ground.

Beautiful setting with all glass walls with views to sea and beach right outside. Service was slow, but we had arrived right at peak Sunday lunch hour. Scenery outside meant we didn't notice delay so much. Menu was varied and meal quality good and reasonably priced.

We visited Barwon Heads on Australia day, and had lunch at ' At the Heads'. It's an important place for us as a significant event in our lives happened here a few years ago

There are no food fireworks here but when you walk away from At The Heads what you will remember is the stunning location and the pure enjoyment of wiling away an hour or so in the sunshine over a meal.
