Review The Laughin' Barrel - Baskerville

Scott Hughes
Big selection of beer and wine, food is great especially the wood fired pizza. Large outdoor area with playground equipment for the kids. Service was great, very friendly.
Amber Celeste
Good food, delicious brews and a good view. Food delivery time was fast and fresh. Only thing missing was some tunes for the outside dining. Will go back again.

Family run place with an awesome choice of some great hand made craft beers. Had a burger and have to say was probably one of the better burgers I’ve had in a long time. Took a peek of other peoples food as it came out and looked delicious. Will be going back to try the rest of the menu.

Lovely service, very good food, beautiful vista and the beer & cider was tasty. The only issues were flies (because of the time of year) & heat. It was a humid day and could've used colder aircon. But we'd be happy to return the pros far outweighed the cons.

The beer is good, but Rachael,... her service and pastry chef background is the true winner here! Came up from down south with friends and had a great meal and beer but the dessert was sensational!!!! The creme brulee and lemon meringue top notch!

Must recommend their pork ribs rack, tender, juicy and delicious, fried chicken wings are also very fragrant and delicious!

Good food, good beers. Had full track of ribs and Porco Rosso pizza. Pizza was pretty awesome. Good selection of beers. Playground for little ones and room to kick a footy.

My wife loves sour beers and she said "I want to move near here because this beers fxxking great!". I agree that her opinion.

They've changed their name (they're called Txoko Brewing), but the food and service is better than ever. Covid-19 hasn't stopped them producing excellent take-away woodfired pizzas and other tasty fare on Friday nights and for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Support a local small business and enjoy a good feed. Don't forget the quality beers brewed on the premises!

Such a lovely little winery! Great wines, amazing place to take the kids. With an outdoor playground and extra toys. Food is also amazing, great selection! We shared the beetroot salad, wood fired pizza and both were fresh and tasty.
Also good options for either sitting indoors or under the trees outside.

Arrived just after 1 and the place was pretty busy, lots of diners inside and out. We were seated and our orders were taken promptly. The food service was a bit slower than I would have liked, not the worst I have experienced, but given we only ordered a couple of pizzas and a salad I would have liked it a bit quicker and all at the same time. When it did arrive it was pretty tasty.
The major issue for me was how run down the place is. The furniture is very tired, there were cobwebs under the tables and the children's play equipment was verging on dangerous with broken rungs leading up to the slide. The playground is fenced but the broken gate means it is redundant.
I think some re-investment is definitely long overdue.
Little Chef
Difficult one to rate as the pizza, salads and wedges etc were all good so no complaints.
Issue was the time it took around 40minutes for mains only as we never wanted entrees and it was far from full!
The decor and seats are tired and tatty, we had cobwebs under the table and dead flys all over the window sills inside. Kids play area has a broken security gates so kids can escape and even a rung of the ladder missing.
Think some money should be spent on the place!

Had lunch here on Fathers Day 2016.
Table was broken, place was rundown and food was below average for a very high cost.
Spent over $200 and still got charged $2-$3 for a small side of tomato sauce for a kids meal.
Pretty Poor Show!

A group of us recently came here for a Sunday lunch. We ordered mainly wood fired pizza's( 8 to be exact,we were 14 hungry people!) to share and a few sides. 50 mins went by until we received our first two pizza's. The restaurant was moderately busy, just under half full but it seemed that they were short staffed. Whether staff were off sick or the double rate Sunday pay had affect, it definitely affected the overall service. I must say though that the staff that were working were doing their best, even though they were run off their feet. As far as the food goes, it was just that, food. Most of the pizza's were topped nicely but the big let down was the base, it seemed to taste like a bought in base. It tasted more like a pita bread, very disappointing! When it comes to a good pizza, it's all about the base! What made it worse was that the base of one of the first pizza's to came out was not cooked properly and still raw. The squid was ok and the chicken wings were chicken wings. Overall the venue is amongst nice surroundings and the company was enjoyable.

Good food but service is always so slow and once you've had your main meal the staff seem to ignore you. Never come and ask if you want anything else. Restaurant also looking very tired, especially the cracked vinyl chairs. Time for a spruce up and crack the whip a bit with the staff.

Our first visit back in about 4 years and the 'barrel didn't disappoint. As part of a large group, the set menu was lovely for this late lunch celebration. The food came out quickly, beautifully cooked and was of generous servings. The kids meals were sensibly served the same time as the entree, and had a great side salad to the fish and chips which my son loved, and as a parent always nice to see a bit of greenery on the kid's plate! The playground, toys and running through the vineyards provided great entertainment for the kids, and the venue in itself has gorgeous vistas, lovely to sit back with a wine or coffee and take it all in. The wine is delicious and well priced, only comes by the bottle however, no option to buy just a glass. Over all a wonderful place to visit, especially with the kids!

We visited the laughin barrel for lunch on a rainy day , the atmosphere inside was nice enough quite cosy.
Considering we were the only people dining at the time I must say the service was lacking .
After ordering the entree and kids foods came out in good time , our mains followed shortly after but missing one main dish . We thought we would be patient but after 10 minutes nothing , 15 mins still nothing after questioning the waitress she made her way to the kitchen and it was quite obvious this dish was forgotten and unbelievable had to wait at least another 30 minutes ! At least ! Considering we were the only table this was maddening and unacceptable , by the time the last main arrived we had all finished.
After the drama there was no further service to ask how our meals were or asked if we wanted coffees or dessert ( I don't even know if they do dessert we didn't see a menu ) .
It's a shame this happened as the food was absolutely delicious so couldn't fault them on that at all .

We found this fabulous place on the internet, looking for a reasonably priced high tea for our daughter's 16th birthday. After friendly communication before hand, the weather on the day was stormy and wet, so we were stuck inside with other party groups. (1st, 40th, 70th) . Even though a few of our group didn't turn up, the ladies were FANTASTIC, very attentive, helpful and friendly. We all bought wine next door (yum) and settled in to delicious savoury & sweet treats. Great value, more than enough food for all. Kids meals were great. Rain stopped kids running around in the playground, but no one seemed to mind the extra noise of them being indoors.
Nice rustic setting, views over the vines, we would highly recommend this place for a relaxing weekend of formal or informal meals.... Can't wait to return, thanks Sharon for everything.

A little gem in the Swan Valley!! Service was great with friendly, fun, knowledgable staff. Very relaxed and beautiful location. Food was delish and very reasonable, ribs are a must!!! Very child friendly with a varied menu and great play area. Family of 7 looked after with ease and made to feel very welcome. Will certainly be back!!

Out of all the places we visited on WA Day in the Swan Valley, this place only appeared to have 2 staff memebers working! Service was slow and the wait for our food was just unacceptable. I dont understand how a restaurant can take so many bookings with so few staff and expect happy returning customers? Will not be going again, especially on a public holiday!

Wait awhile... We went for lunch this Sunday and I wouldn't go back. We booked for 12 people and after we arrived at 1pm, some of our party decided to have a wine tasting at the cellar door. We were told very rudely to "speak up and tell me what you want because I'm not a mind reader". The lady serving kept walking away from us and it took half an hour to try two wines. We came back to the table and there were still no menus, no water and nobody had come to ask if we had a drink order. We asked for menus and got two. We placed our order which included entrees and kids meals. This was about 1:45. Then we sat and waited and waited and waited. At 2:45 we still didn't have any entrees and the kids on the table were starving. We went and asked, and the same lady from the cellar door informed us, again very rudely, that another big table had ordered before ours so that's why it took so long. I asked that they at least bring the kids food out. We finally got our food, although they brought the kids meals out twice and the main came about 5 minutes after the entrée. This was just after 3pm. The food was fine. I would be probably be happier with the food if I wasn't so hungry by the time it came. My partner remarked it barely touched the sides he was so starving by the time we ate. There was no apology at any point that the food was late, the wait staff didn't say a word when we had it brought out. Very, very disappointed with the service and wait for food.

Laughing Barrel... Should read Laughin Stock!. Mother's Day Lunch with a set menu.. Looked like a winner..... Unfortunately it was horrific. Cold soup arrived after an hour wait..... Kids meals were late and so hot they couldn't eat for some time. Mains were served just as cold as the soup and warm fudge brownie was also cold. Service was just awful. Our waitress repeatedly returned to our table to check the order given. On the 4th attempt, an older experienced waitress intervened. It was a set menu with 2 choices of mains and dessert however that proved to difficult for their wait staff. Dismayed at our dining experience, I spoke to the manager upon our exit and asked that the bill be adjusted accordingly to our disappointing lunch. The bill was reduced $84.00 but the bill was still too excessive for our liking. This was our second experience and our last the the Laughin Barrel.

1 hour 45 minute wait for food. Yesterday myself and a group of friends went to The Laughin' Barrel for our Christmas lunch and had a terrible experience.

Firstly it took over an hour to receive our starters and those of us who didn't order a starter had to wait a further forty five minutes for their lunch. There was no communication from wait staff during that time about when the food would be arriving, no complimentary bread and the water was not refilled.

When the food came out there was no apology for the wait time. My friend was offered a medium steak but had ordered a rare so he politely asked that it be sent back and the rare steak be brought out as ordered. The waitress was incredibly rude to him when she brought out the replacement fifteen minutes later. It really soured what was meant to be an enjoyable lunch.

The view out to the vineyards was really lovely but with so many other nice eateries and restaurants in the Swan Valley with a beautiful view, I won't be making a return trip to this restaurant.

Playground structurally unsound. Do not visit with young children expecting to use the playground. It has not been maintained over time and is unsafe for children to play on.
Sue
We all liked it - a big family group with 5 young children. Sat outside near the playground - pity about the flies!
The children were served first but the food took a long time coming. To be expected on a busy Sunday. Fish &chips were well liked, also the chicken salad with loads of avocado and a good grain mustard dressing.
We brought our own birthday cake that was brought to the table with candles, plates and plenty of napkins.
Prices are reasonable. All in all a good day.
Holly Mcleod
A bad taste. We ordered the meat platter and found the turkish roll to have green mould on it. I took it up to the counter and asked why the didnt check this before serving it to us. The lady then said.. oh this is how its meant to be, it didnt taste moldy did it? I replied 'well ive never eaten moldy bread :/ they gave us a replacement but we didnt stick around.
Mick Cox
Amazing food, poor wine. Would go back just for the food! Everyone on the table thought the food was amazing.
We had a steak, lamb cutlets, ribs, osso bucco, ham & cheese toastie. ALL AMAZING. wine is poor, service poor
JKT
Do NOT bother with this place!! Can't comment in the food as we were basically snubbed away, even after saying we were happy to wait the "hour" for food...we were told "you aren't listening to me are you?" To which my husband replied "would you prefer us to leave?" And so we did. The rudest restaurant we have ever encountered!
Cabell1611
In the middle. We pre booked and when we got there we waited 30min just to get a drink. No beer just wine, wine ok.
Food quantity reasonable for price and the quality was worth (just) the hour wait.
In all, this business lacked staff on the ground and a common sense approach to dealing with people.
Think we will try somewhere else next time.
Emily
Very unimpressed with the service. Extremely poor service. We waited 45 minutes before our food arrived, the entree with the mains. We had ordered the steak, one of the most expensive items on the menu, to find it nearly well done instead of being medium rare. When we bought it up with the wait staff, she replied with "Well what do you want me to do about it". No apology given and a bit of a shock as we were not expecting a replacement but to merely inform the kitchen. We will not be returning any time soon, plenty of other restaurants in the Swan Valley with friendlier service.

Another fantastic family lazy luncheon. Despite the service being a little slow (when not very busy) you can't be disappointed with this restaurant offering. It's just fabulous for families wanting a chilled out lazy lunch whilst the kids are entertained with the sandpit and play area. The addition of a TV / games area inside the main restaurant is also a big bonus! I wish they'd bring back the pizza making for kids as that was also a big attraction for families by hey ho you can't have everything.

Once again we ordered the famous ribs which are just HUGE portions for $28! We had a takeaway box for two of our meals ;-) Kids loved the pizza as usual and loved the new addition of the rainbow cheesecake on the dessert menu ;-)

A definite MUST visit on a regular basis for all families.
Aimee
Staff have VERY average attitude and average wine.
JFromPerth
Don't go here if you're in a hurry.... Four of us went in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon - the place was not even half full. We placed our food and drink orders very quickly. The drinks took 15 minutes to arrive, and only after we asked where they were. The kids meals took over 1/2 hour to arrive and the mains 45 minutes. Food was OK, but nothing special. My own fault for not checking, but they don't have cider or spirits on offer. Won't be going back any time soon.
Mariapower
Much more than "fine" food!. We have dined here many times..it is one of the best restaurants in Perth, for stylish food and decor

Great if you have kids, avoid if you don't. Kid-friendly venue with playground and lots of space for the little ones to run around.

That's the only good thing I can say about the Laughin' Barrel. There are dozens of better options to eat and drink in the Swan Valley. Don't take this as a negative review so much as a "know before you go" type review.

Disgusted. Attended for lunch on Saturday 15th March 2014 with four other ladies. Along came a "hen's party". Two long tables of about 30 women, the noise was appalling. Fair enough they were out to have a good time, but so were we. We left in the end because we could not hear ourself speak and were no longer enjoying the ambience. Felt the hens party should have been given a room to their selves or out on the verandah otherwise management could have asked them respectively to 'tone it down'' In future we will ask what other bookings the restaurant have before proceeding to patronise. No impressed no respect for other diners at all !!!!!!!!

Good family tucker. A friendly well run restaurant. Meat board entree's and bread and dips really tasty. Mains of Steak, Pumpkin tart, 2x kids wood fired pizza's, sticky ribs and also a chicken salad were all good, generous portions and their local classic white wine finished off a nice sunday lunch. Nice play area for the kids and a relaxed atmosphere...

A long wait for food. Went for lunch on a Friday afternoon with the family. First of all there is no air conditioning so it gets pretty warm. They weren't very busy so we were seated straight away but I was extremely annoyed to have about a 1 hour wait for food. This included my daughters toasted sandwich which you'd think they would bring out a little sooner than that. Food was ok to average. Not much pizza or menu choices and nothing but there few varieties of wine to drink or cool drink. Anyway there is a playground which is handy for the long wait for food but the playground is fairly basic and only really good for the younger kids up to around 8 or 9 year olds. They gave the kids their own menu which had a couple of puzzles on them but didn't give them anything to write with and took them away along with our menu when we placed our order. Prices were ok but by no means cheap. The toilets were a little unpleasant (hot and smelly and outside)
There are plenty of better options in the Swan Valley to enjoy a nice lunch.

Dissappointed. Was not very happy when rang to book for a birthday party told us we could bring beer left out the part that it's $1 corkage per beer you have and they take your esky and have to wait for the waitress To bring out your drinks. Also charge $1 per person to serve the birthday cake when you have 20 people this all adds up very quickly.
The food was nice not a very big selection. Forgot 2 people's food so everyone else had finished before they even got their food. They did give us a credit for it. But they did wait 45 minutes after the first meals came out.
Donna
Worst service I have experienced in a long time... Entree come out with the mains and we were still waiting for our drinks to arrive well into the main meal. Won't be revisiting this restaurant.
Jason Teguh
Waited 45 minutes and still no food... Place looks understaffed...
BecM
High hopes for an early lunch at this restaurant. Sadly disappointed. Lack lustre and slow service took away from lovely setting and food. A place that caters for children should always be high on our list, but this place dropped the ball. The swan valley market is too competitive to operate like this. Our daughter had long finished her meal before ours arived. We won't be visiting again.
Miles Ingle
Absolutely unAcceptable, waited 2 hoursfor a bowl of chips. Staff are uninterested and rather uncaring. Not recommend, avoid at all costs. Go to feral brewery up the road instead.
Amanda
Great group event. Really good place for a group event. We had 17 people on a wine tour, and the food was outstanding from a set menu that was changed to cater for a few individual requirements. Delicious, and really good sized servings. Wine is nice, service was good. All in I would recommend for a large group.

Reasonable Food. Long, average, and disorganised service. Drawn to the Laughin Barrel understanding it could cater for young children. And that it did well. Great playground facilities and toys for young children.

On the downside, the service was almost nonexistent for our first 25 minutes. Once served, it was disorganised and very shaky. There was not a lot of confidence that our meals would come out as ordered. An HOUR AND A HALF later to our delight the meals came out exactly as ordered but the steaks were slightly overdone but non the less tasted lovely.

At payment time they had lost the record of our meal order so it ended up an honour arrangement in which we kept our side of the transaction agreement.

Will really have to lift its game in a competitive overpriced Perth Market.
Taylor Drew
Great lunch out. I love the wine and since I had seen they did lunch I suggested a family meal there. However I read previous reviews and most seemed far from positive.

We had no problems. We did wait 30 minutes for our main but service was good, food was brilliant and overall a great lunch was had. I think when reviewing people need to be mindful that places like this can be short staffed and demand is high so sometimes service and waiting time sometimes might not be great, but our family meal here was great and I would go back again.
Halfa Chook
Great food, slowest service...
Francina Cullen
Good food, bad service. We have been to this eatery at least 4 times over the past couple of years, and apart from the disappointment of the kids no longer being able to make their own pizzas, it has been very consistent.

Considering that we go there primarily for the kids, we are pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, which is always good, ad better than you would expect. Last time we were there we had the lamb rump and the sticky pork ribs, and our friends had pizzas, and all were excellent. There is a small outdoor playground for the kids and a few toys inside as well. The playground isn't huge but it is just something extra to keep the kids occupied after they have eaten while the adults talk.

Unfortunately the other consistent factor has been poor and very slow service every time. The front of house service is very poorly run, with food taking an age to arrive and often going to the wrong table, or other tables arriving after you and getting served earlier. While friendly, the staff are unprofessional and you get the feeling of a family business, where everyone pitches in a has a go, even though they may not be suited to that role. Complaining about the service won't help as they seem to accept their poor service and think you should do. There is no apology or desire to improve.

Given how over-priced the Swan Valley is these days, with most business charging very high prices for average food, we find the food at the Laughing Barrel to be very nice and the prices very reasonable, with some additional facilities for children. Just make sure you have plenty of time oput aside, as you will definitely need it while waiting to be served.
Manda359
Disappointed. Kids can no longer make their own pizza's. This is such a shame as it was such a highlight for them.
Food menu has changed since our last visit 6 months ago. Not very impressed.
Andy
Awful. We waited 1hour 20 minutes for our food despite seeing other people come in after us served before us. When we mentioned the gap between the children's meals coming out and the mains they said this was because they thought that the kids pizza's and fish and chips were entrees for the main course! The staff were incredibly rude when I complained and the manageress refused to accept any blame for the whole disaster, stating that I should have expected a considerable wait because they were busy and she can't get staff. I would advise people to view their Facebook page to witness their approach to dealing with an unhappy customer and then judge for yourself whether my comments are valid.
Kim
Great wine , great food, generous serves, great rustic bush vineyard back drop.

Could honor reservation - That's why you take our number!!. We booked in October for a group of 14 for a table outside, as cercumstances would have it the weather on the day was bad. When we arrived at the resturaunt they were all in a fluster and said that they didn't have a spot for us but we could wait to see if any tables become available and left us standing there for ages. We waited for a while as all of our guests had arrived. When we told them we would have to leave they didn't seem to care much I would think that they may have offered an incentive to return (as 14 is a big number to disapoint)? They did have our phone number from our booking so there is no excuses for not calling us to let us know before we turned up with no where to go!! What a disappointment for my husband on his birthday!!
Pip
Disappointed! Friendly service was the highlight of our public holiday luncheon.
The food was average and the kids playground was in full sun - as was most of the outdoor seating.
Ryan Cerviche
Surprisingly delicious. I have eaten at many small restaurants tucked out of the way and kinda knew what to expect. There were three of us, and each of us ordered something different. I ordered the burger with homemade chips. The service was excellent and fast, but what I did not expect was the amazing taste and generous servings. It was by far one of the best burgers I have eaten in my life, and the other two guests meals were a sight to behold (and the red wine jus served with one of the other meals tasted "to die for")

I will most certainly return, excellent service, great price and some of the nicest food Ive ever eaten.
Angela
What a shame. Well after our brilliant experience we went back and what a mistake. I n refelction there were two reviews the good and the good but bad service. WEll we went and there must have being bad chef there as we had a burnt pizza which was replaced for a smaller pizza and then we arrived at 6.10 children served 6.30 with burnt pizza then had replacement pizza it was not untill 7.15 that we got our meals. Not once while my husband and I were sitting there starving while our children ate or when we started to say Hello where is our food did any service stafff apologise or explain what we were waiting for. What about some free bread while we starve. Then at the end when we paid and I esplained the wait we were told no it was busy, three tables is busy I would remove some tables serve two and their at least happy. We won't go back the food great but if someone had at least said we are sorry for the delay or yes you are right that was a long time to watch your children eat then maybe but nothing. Get rid of bad chef or slow chef. You guys with the food good get 100% but that sort of service it is zero. Very sad.

-----17 Dec, 2012-----

An experience. What a brilliant place, this is not just eating or a nice place or great food it is just an awesome experience of everything wonderful. The food, service, place, views, walking through the vines is just the best. Not to mention they cater for children with a playground and a great fresh kids menu. There is no making pizzas for the kids anymore but they were pretty brave to ever do that!! Everyone must go here once it is beyond words.
Lance Macormic
Relax, Stay a While...A Long While. We met a bunch of family for a birthday celebration. The venue is laid out very family friendly with lots of playgrounds and activities for the kids. The local wine was okay and the ribs that I had were okay, but nothing outstanding. The pizzas were fairly priced and looked great for kids and adults alike.

But, an hour after ordering a meal, I discovered why there were playgrounds and activities. Because you will be there a long time. The food took over an hour and a half to be served. In the mean time, much water was consumed which was only replaced when we went up to the counter. Nobody came to check on us or to update us as to when the food would be served. After the meal, we made the mistake of ordering coffee. This took another half hour as we all looked at each other and shook our heads.

To sum up: Average food/wine, Almost too relaxed atmosphere, Bad and slow service
Nic
Love it. The food was divine, the tasting plate was a great starter and we were not disappointed by our mains. The setting among the vines is relaxed and welcoming. Caters to kids from toddlers and up, my pre teens thought it was great snd really enjoyed making their own wood fired pizza. We will be back!

Yummy but slow. A bit of an impromptu afternoon out in the Swan Valley and a beautiful day for it. The food was surprisingly tasty but unfortunately a little slow. I hope it was just because they had been caught short-handed for the day because the place wasn't full and it took ages to get any service for anything.

That said, the pork ribs were delicious - really sticky and rich with lovely cut fries and fresh salad. The "catch of the day" was snapper which was ok but had the yummiest baby potatoes and slow roasted cherry tomatoes. The kids thoroughly enjoyed making, and eating, their own pizzas. The best part of the whole meal was the lemon brulee tart for dessert - creamy, tangy and tasty. The kids dessert ice creams were melting by the time we got them, but fortunately they didn't care and were a perfect size to finish off their meals (for under 10s).

Also, beer is byo only, but they have their own selection of house wines which were reasonably priced and very drinkable.

All-in-all a lovely afternoon out, nestled at the foot of the hills with a lovely outlook over the vineyards and a great playground for the kids but don't go there if you're in a hurry!
Amy
Sh*t service!. We had a birthday lunch there yesterday, we had a table of 12 so not massive, the food & wine was amazing, though they dont sell any beer, so we had to do a mercy dash to get some for the boys, weather was great, location great, food great, the only downer was the service, only 3 waitresses!!! the weather had been predicted around 27 degrees so they shouldve known people would be out and about, or the fact that everyone we spoke to (whinged too) had also booked their tables so some prior organisation wouldve been good! we literally waited 45 mins to get served as they only do table service, then another 2 hrs for meals to come out, to receive a bottle of water takes 15 mins, ended up taking them from the bar, even water for the 12 month old kids took forever! all well and good that you want to do table service, but if this is the case, make sure your staff actually go to the tables! a lot went home with heat exhaustion/dehydrated as there was very little shade

basically just need to pick up on your service and you would have a very good restaurant
Mandy Siggery
The food was great with big portion sizes, the kids had fun in the playground and we enjoyed the 2 bottles of wine we sampled. The only disappointing thing was they had run out of the only sparkling wine they had!

Good food, very long wait !

Great food, nice setting in the vineyard. We went for lunch on Saturday. The restaurant was packed, very busy. It took an hour to be served, but they gave us free freshly baked bread to tide us over. I had the ribs, she had fish and chips. Generous servings, tasty and fresh. Family friendly with a kiddies area to make their own pizzas and playgtound outside. We will be back.

Better than Pub Grub. I must comment on those people clling the food at Laughin Barrel - Pub Grub. Yes the menu items are what you would expect to see in a Pub, but name a pub in Perth that serve a lamb shank pie wrapped in spiral of puff pastry served with a balsamic jus and creamy mashed potato or the steak with creamy prawn or the kids wood fired pizzas that they made themselves - It is Pub Grub style - but the food is 10 times better than what I have had in any Perth based Pub.

Place is a winner. Great value, great venue, great food.

Loved it! I will be back.... And soon. I had a great night. So much food, serving sizes are very generous. I didnt eat all mine( calamari) as i was too busy eating everyone elses! Wine ( Chardy) was very easy drinking. Steak sandwich was best ive ever tasted. Dinner for 9 people, $330. Excellent value, and we all left stuffed full. Shame though, i was eyeing that cake cabnet the minute i walked in. This lace will become a regular for us im sure.

Best place for a relaxing lunch on the weekend!. Fantastic food, unbelievable wine and brilliant service. What more do you want from a winery?? This wasn't our first time here either -- but this particular Sunday we had a large group for lunch and it was faultless. The food was to die for - everyone was amazed at the quality and portion sizes - no one walked away hungry.

There are a lot of reviews saying it's "great for the kids". It probably is - but it has to be said that it is perfect for any couple who wants to get away from the hussle and bussle of the city - or a group of adults who LOVE a great glass (or bottle) of shiraz -- this place will not let you down (neither will the chilli mussels :-))!!!!

Hellie. We ( Myself, my son and my daughter and her 2 children) were there today for lunch. What a great place!! Staff so friendly, the so called "Pub food" - from some previous reviews, was fantastic and my grand children loved making their own pizza. My daughter and I tried the tasting plate each of the red and white wines and were impressed with all (and also the price!!!) Then when presented with our main meals we were amazed - with the size of the servings, presentation and tasted so good. We had such a lovely afternoon and would recommend this winery to anyone who enjoys good food, trying out different wines ( and they were good) and a fun family time. Good onya Laughing Barrel!!!

Gem of a place!!!!. Initially went with a friend and our two kids for a girls day out. Sat out the back under cover from the sun, next to the vineyard. Kids played on the playground and loved playing outside with the ball and wandering around the vineyard. Highlight was the kids being able to dress-up in chefs hat and apron to make their own pizza (including rolling the dough!!!) - they were over the moon. The champers was fantastic and all our meals were delicious and cooked perfectly! The wait staff (including the owner) regularly checked on us and would top up our glasses. I returned a 2nd time for a kids b'day party a month later. 8 kids and 10 adults - every single person loved their food! (and the restaurant was packed - especially when it started raining and they immediately relocated those outside getting wet, managed to accommodate everyone). I highly recommend the chookin' - way better than 'pub grub'. The guys took their own beers - and they even had us at a table next to the big tv for the guys to watch the footy! I would highly recommend this place - especially if you have kids! We had some adults at the party without children and they still loved it! A great restaurant for all.

Good value!. This is a place I have been meaning to go to for some time and last weekend we managed to do that.

I would recommend it as you get good food (nothing fancy but pub grub as someone else stated) and it's good value.

We had the fish 'n' chips, seafood pizza and steak burger (from memory, all meals were in the low $20's). See photos posted. They only have their own wines and no beers to choose from.

Lovely setting overlooking vineyards and there is a playground for kids and pizza-making station too. Great idea!

Service is an area that could be improved and from what we understood, food takes an average of 40 minutes to come out (well that's what they told us) but I guess if you are out there, you are more relaxed and not in a hurry.

Would recommend and go again.

View from our table outside was amazing. Gutted they ran out if Beef Wellington but our other choices were very good, friendly service and would definitely go back with friends for a relaxing, scenic, good food none rushed service

Went 27th May 12 - it's was simply fab, sat outside facing the vineyard- the food was delish recommend the Chookin. Thanks.
Greedygirl
It was ok. pub grub but in a vineyard setting. accessory du jour is a pram and rugrats. for the kiddy set.

The laughin barrel is an enjoyable spot. The tasting plate was delicious and fed four of us but with two of everything so we cut everything in half and the option of the kids making their own pizzas is a brilliant idea. Lovely spot, a return is likely.
CocktailGurl
Awesome kid friendly venue. Good food but not fancy so stick with the pizzas and ribs type food and you will be right. Not the greatest service in the world but good enough by Perth standards. Will be coming back often with the kids.

Only so-so. We had a group of about 12 people for lunch today, it took about 50+ minutes for the food to come out we were never told about any delays either, we had to physicly track down a waitress to get the food. It wasn't a busy day either, most of the dishes were unsatisfactory when they did come out. Not worth the money we paid for them.
Also the waitress (Who I believe was new) was one of the worst waitresses I've ever had. She would say softly to herself the dishes she was carrying before she reached our table with only one word like 'pizza' or 'pasta' but when asked which one it was she said she didn't know. So we had to work it out ourselves who's meal was who. After such a long wait, I wish we just cancelled our order and went somewhere else.

Kid Friendly.... Five adults, fours kids and three babies and we were all looked after! The kids loved making their own pizzas and being able to play on the playground. We all had the most relaxing day being able to have lunch and enjoy chatting without feeling rushed by staff or having the kids whinging to go home because they are bored. The gentleman there even brought out extra bottles of water to fill up the kids water bottles before leaving. This place is great during the week and the food is yummy and well priced. I will be going back for sure!!

Friendly service, tasty food, good vista. Only gripe would be, that the fish & chips has a very small serve of fish. Will be back again

Loved our lunch here - kids really enjoyed making their own wood fired pizzas and then were able amuse themselves in the playground. A beautiful setting with the hills in the back ground. Food was lovely and well cooked. You can BYO your own beers but they do serve their own wine at very reasonable prices. Defo be back!

MAGICAL!. Such a beautiful setting with wonderful food. Family friendly with a playground and kids toys. we sat outside under a gorgeous tree, surrounded by grape vines, we could have easily been in the Greek Islands! We rarely go out to dinner (for fear of disappointment) however our faith in WA cuisine has been restored!

The barrel of rudeness. The service was horrible, the waiter lady's where the rudest i have ever experienced. Don't put yourself through the heartache, find a nice restaurant where they treat you like a person. The lady's there are evil.! Especially the skinny Irish and plumply Blonde lady.

We had a great dinner here tonight - we both ordered the crispy skinned barramundi special, followed by a brownie mudcake and a rhubard berry pie. The food was fantastic, as was the service. Our wines, a Shiraz and Cab Merlot were pretty nice too. It was a great meal, and very reasonably priced too.

Not laughin'. We were booked into the Laughin' Barrel for lunch with a large group yesterday. We arrived before the group expecting to eat early and leave early as we had another party to go to -as you do as this time of the year. Our lunch had already been paid for, Unfortunately, the head waitress could not cope with the early lunch request and made us wait until the rest of the guests arrived - by which time, it was not possible to eat lunch before we had to go. We wanted to BUY a drink whilst we waited, but were told they don't do seperate bills - BUT WE WERE THE ONLY ONES IN THE GROUP THAT WERE THERE! The restaurant was inflexible, the staff were rude, and we certainly didn't leave laughin'.

Disappointing but set in a nice area. The restaurant is set in a nice area surrounded by vines so its beautiful to the eyes..
The food was not so good.. i had the burger and it was tasteless and poorly presented.. Also the waitress was not very nice once she realised we were not going to order any wine...

Food was average perri perri chicken burger minus the perri perri. Chips were good flies were bloody awful

Mediocre. I came here for a work xmas function and so had something from the xmas set menu. Perhaps the food is better on the normal menu but I was not impressed with the food served. My main was dry and a little over cooked. The dessert tasted like it was one of those xmas puddings you buy from woolies and stick in the microwave. I probably won't come here again.
Brenton Corbett
Rude waitress and afer complaining about a burnt pizza (seriously badly burnt) they returned the same pizza with the burnt bits cut off. Another complaint saw a re-made pizza - reluctantly.

Loved it!. Laughin' Barrel exceeded all expectations! i had never heard of the restaurant and recently went there on a wine tour. the staff were friendly and amazing for such a big group of us- all our food was on time and perfect! i had the mushroom spinach and fetta pizza- which was fantastic.. few people ordered the mussels which looked and tasted amazing!!! would definitley go back there again just wished i had known about this place sooner!! scenery was amazing, really open and bright! play ground for kids which i think is a brilliant idea!

Amazing!. Had my mum and dads 30th Wedding Anniversary celebration here on the weekend and i could not fault anything about the Barrel! We had a booking for 50 people and the staff werre super efficient, friendly and so well organised everything went super smoothly. The food was delicious(and very reasonably priced), the setting was beautiful and everyone commented on what a lovely day they had. Bonus points for the special attention paid to the kiddies on the day. They all received their meals first and a couple even got up to make their own pizzas. Many Thanks. Highly recommended

With success comes price. Found this gem in September. Went again today, 2 months later. Noticed straightaway the price increases! Bottles of wine up from $18 to $22, kids pizza up from $10 to $12.50 and the tasting plate, while the same price, was missing a lot. Ok so they might mix up what's on the tasting plate but previously there was smoked salmon, chorizo, 2 types of cheese, stuffed peppers etc. - today 1 cheese, no chorizo, no salmon, 3 small sausages, a dip, bread, some fetta etc. but not $29 worth. Disappointed. Thought I had found a small slice of heaven very well priced, but unfortunately a lot of other people have found it, and now the prices, like Elmars, have gone northwards. Will have to rethink regular visits to maybe annually. Shame

Highly recommend. Very kid friendly with a playground and making their own pizzas, beautiful view (especially during spring), the owners are fantastic and love what they do!, food is great. Why are you still reading? Need I say more? You should be calling and booking a table =)
Mish
Fantastic. The owners love what they do and this shows through with the food, service, great hospitality and lovely wines. It is wonderful to finally have a fantastic spot to go to where the kids can enjoy themselves too. Highly recommend.

Hidden gem. The Laughin Barrel is one of the few restaurants in the Swan Valley that produces consistently excellent food at reasonable prices. Coupled with their excellent wines and child friendly environment I personally think that this restaurant is worth a visit and another and another. The owners and management team surpass themselves with their attentiveness and attention to detail, well done on finding the balance between excellent dining in a family atmosphere. Karen

Woodfire pizzas info. I havent been there yet but reading on the fantastic reviews of customers. thinking of going but was disappointed couldnt see a photo of a woodfire pizza by the chef (not by the lovely kids who made their own fab pizzas) .. to give me a rough idea how many pieces on the pizza & how big the size of it are? thanks
Mark
Great for families. Such a nice setting with views over the vines to the hills beyond. The food was nice. The kids get to make their own pizza which is then baked in the wood fire pizza oven. Wines are made by John Griffiths from Faber next door, so guaranteed quality there. The kids playground kept our young ones entertained.

Just had lunch with some friends and was extremely impressed. We had a couple of fresh made-to-order cobb loaves with garlic butter on the side to start. Fresh garlic and herbs and hot, crunchy bread to melt it all on. The kids made their own pizzas which they then woodfired - they looked so good that all the adults started drooling!! On our table we had pasta, pizzas, chicken breast, steak and beef cheeks. All looked fantastic - I couldn't fault a thing (in fact the chicken next to me smelt so good that I wanted to swap)!!! Thanks Laughin' Barrel - we had a great meal and will be sure to return with more friends :)

A most welcoming place where the staff remember your choice of wine from your last visit! Service is great, steaks cooked to perfection, crunchy chips and fresh salad! A lovely place for lunch or a Friday dinner. Highly recommend this restaurant for a pleasant, filling and delicious meal... And the wine is great, too!

Do not attempt to go to this restaurant without a booking on weekends. The calamari was amazing. I enjoyed their classic white wine a lot. Will go again. They do need more staff. But the llace is a little gem with breathtaking views.

Excellent find. We went to the Laughin' Barrel for lunch yesterday with our family. The play area is great for kids, even though mine are a little older, sand & swings are always a winner. The food was lovely, a little pricey but well worth it. A whole range was ordered, The tasting plate was lovely, my husband had a Black Angus Sirloin, Mum had the chicken etc, between the seven of us we ordered quite a range and everyone was pleased. The service was great and they pretty much left us to it. Great relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back.

A Must Try. We took the kids and had a fabulous day, the setting is lovely and the food is delicious and reaonably priced. The kids enjoyed making their own pizzas and the tasting plates are very good value, we will be regulars here!

We went for lunch with 4 families and had a gr8 time the food and service was a1. 2 of the children made there own pizzas and had a ball and the rest of the meals yummy and reasonable priced would go back again

Fantastic for bringing kids out. Playpark brill for under 5's kept kids amused for ages which was just as well as we arrived at 1200 and it was 1330 before we got our mains. Kids made their own pizzas and they were cooked and eaten in 20 mins. Food good though, not screaming about their own wines and they have no beer.
Peter
Great Value. At last a restaurant/winery in the Swan Valley that provides great food and good wine at a reasonable price The $10 specials are amazing value. A la carte provides well cooked and well presented food, again at very reasonable prices. Limited selection of wines but the ones I have tasted were very drinkable and good value. Good for families and kids (outdoor play area).
Donna
Perfect for everyone.. The Laughin' Barrel has such a relaxed atmosphere, with sophisticated and comfortable leather seats. Fantastic for kids, we have 2 children and they just loved making their own pizza's and there is also a play area and board games which kept them fully entertained while we enjoyed the atmosphere and lunch. The outlook of the vineyard makes you feel like your in a province of France, service is friendly, the sparkling is of high standard, food is tasty and not over priced, deserts are delicious. Overall I think if you don't love this place their is something wrong with you.
Sue
Perfect Luncheon. We have just visited the Laughin Barrell for our staff Christmas lunch and we had a ball. Food was brilliant with very generous serves with great value for money. The atmosphere was great and the service was friendly and helpful. The Laughin Barrel wines were great as well. Definitely worth a visit. You won't be disappointed.
