Review Tokio Fans Japanese Restaurant - Baulkham Hills

Quality has improved over the years. We could see why they were packed and full on a Wednesday night. Above average in price for above average in taste. The quality of the sashimi was great. The rolls were well made. The beef and chicken mains were flavourful, tender and well cooked. Service is top notch!

Every dollar I spent here above the price I would normally pay for the same food elsewhere was a dollar well spent. The food was excellent and the service was exceptional.

We waited 1.5hours for the only vegetarian meal at the table to be served. Meanwhile. We had finished our meal. I had to call the waitress for service after sitting for 20 mins to order drinks. The food was tasty bit nothing special. Honestly I have had better from a sushi train but that is hit and miss. I would not be back here but it is my sister's favourite restaurant. Two stars. There is alot to improve on to match the quality that you would expect to pay for with the prices

For: Food quality was very good. Perhaps the best Unagi (Grilled Eel) that I've had outside Japan. Against: Very expensive. $70+ for 2 dishes and 2 soft drinks. Staff were okay with us, but seemed to be arguing amongst themselves, which takes away from the atmosphere. Also, Wham/George Michael background music ain't exactly a Japanese vibe.

Nice Japanese food with beautiful lake views...tried sake, the Japanese alcoholic beverage or Rice wine served in authentic bottle and loved it...food had great taste...menu has wide variety of dishes...this place has nice ambiance...service is quick and friendly...lake view is bonus.

The Sashimi and the fish on the sushi is very fresh. Eel is cook to perfection. Will go back. Food is excellent but a bit price. Don't mind paying a little bit extra for excellent food and service.

Tokio Fans is a newly established Japanese Restaurant in the new developed Norwest Business District. It is located next to Strangers Creek, and offers a scenic water view, and the food is very high quality.

Legit walked out. Waited 10-15 minutes after sitting down and didn't get a menu even after requesting for one. Walked over to the Italian restaurant next door and was greeted at the door, and ordered and got our entress within the same time frame.

Tried to call to change a booking due to a funeral and had the most horrible customer service! Would not recommend even bothering to book. There was no empathy at all, just a discussion about "policy".
-Food quality is horrible for the price, the tuna sashimi not even fresh and fishy

-Staffs were so unprofessional, they came and asked my family to hurry up and finish the sushi so they bring the hot pot!!!

-No table water was serve, after asking for it, no refill while there were 3 staff walking around bad mouthing another customers

This is by far the worst Japanese restaurant I have ever been to. It is way too overprice. The fish is not fresh at all. The sushi was made by an amateur. And the service is horrible. One of the waitress come and tell us to hurry up so they can serve the hotpot. Stay away from this place( can't even call this place restaurant )

I go here pretty regularly and the sushi is consistently good. My favourite is the prawn roll! The sauce was really good, it was sweet and spicy!

Friendly and prompt service but it wasn't busy. Stuck to the basics - tuna sashimi, some sushi rolls for the kids, cold soba noodles and agedashi tofu. Everything was nice and fresh and well presented. The sashimi was excellent. Dipping broth for cold soba noodles was very bland and watered down even more by the ice in it. But as other reviews have noted, too expensive for what it was. Top end prices for middle of the road quality Japanese food.

Great little restaurant with an expansive authentic Japanese menu. We order a range of dishes - vegetable udon, sushi and sashimi boat, seafood tempura, spicy chicken roll and takoyaki. Everything was great, however would have preferred some more variety on the sushi boat. The tuna sashimi was very fatty and melted in the mouth. We will definitely be back.

Had a craving for Japanese food when we decided to try this place.. By the lakefront on a pleasant evening sets a good tone for a delightful evening. We ordered 2 sushi rolls and 1 bento box with drinks. The portions of food were small and overall really expensive. The sushi rolls lacked taste and were not fresh.

We ended up leaving the place with takeaway boxes and had a Maccas burger on the go.. Not recommended....

This place is definitely one of my faves to come back to. Their sushi is always freshly made. One of the rolls that I feel are the star attraction here is the Peking duck sushi roll, and the soba noodles is also a great 'light' meal. Only downside to this place is (because it's all freshly prepared) the service of the food is on the slower side; so definitely don't come here expecting 'fast food'. The price is a little on the higher end too, but I feel that's also because of the waterfront location in Norwest lake. Nonetheless, would still recommend coming here and trying it out.

This place is way too expensive. We were next door at Seed Thai for lunch and the restaurant was packed. Came next door to Tokyo’s Fans to get some takeaway and the place was only 1/4 filled with customers. Ordered a Unagi Roll (6 tiny pieces for $13) and a Salmon Cone for $7. Total was $21 and we were shocked by the size of the sushi. The cone was also tiny.....I’ve never seen a cone as small as this for the price they charge. Taste wise it was alright. Nothing special. I would rather go to Sushi Hub and get $21 worth of sushi.

Price: 1/5
Taste: 2.5/5
Service: 2/5
Decor and presentation: 3.5/5
Visits: 1

The decor and plating were the only good things about this place. The tuna and avocado roll was uneven and poorly made, the ichiban roll took half an hour to come out. For the price they charged for 8 pieces you would expect more. Service here was mixed with waiters often not noticing you. Overall an okay experience and left feeling just under-satisfied.

Nice setting and atmosphere but food took so long to come(~45'). but the lady was kind enough to offer us extra tempura for waiting
We ordered Sashimi kingdom- its ok nice presentation. Good dynamite roll.
Pork tonkatsu was below average.
Chloe Alfonso
Not my favourite Japanese food place but still overall good experience. Was disadvantaged by the long wait for food and the rude sushi chef behind the counter. Wait staff were lovely and selection of sushi and mains were good.
Stella
I loved the place and the food came out really quick which makes up for the fact that they take a really long time to come take your order. The food was really good

Food were actually nice and atmosphere was good. Too bad one of our meal took over 30mins to come. I understand it's Valentine's Day but when we already complained, it took another 20 mins to come! Also found a small cockroach in our soup and all the waitress could say was "ok"...

Well what a random find this was!
Decided to have a very impromptu date with hubby. Uber driver to and from (excellent) service great, seafood very fresh, salad excellent. Extensive menu, staff attentive, everything ran smoothly!
Tempura crunchy not oily, salmon sashimi fresh, soba noodles chilled and tasty. As far as Japanese being out 'In The Hills' we were both pleasantly surprised.
Cosy place in Bella Vista. The food was nice and tasty. However, expensive for what it was. We ended up paying around $50 each (4 people) and I left there just under satisfied. I probably would have prefer to get a massive sushi platter for $60 at sushi hub instead of here. Good food, but pricey !

Sam: If you are wanting Japanese badly and can't make it to East or stuck in Baulkham Hills and this is your only choice then it's worth a look. The fish cuts are not authentic. I tried the bento box and the sashimi on several occasions. What it lacks in authenticity it doesn't make up for in creativity.

The place has interesting decor and good service.

The food was fresh. However, the quantity of the delux sushi and sashimi was well below expectation. There were three sizes offered, this was the largest, it was medium at best.

The sashimi salad was reasonable quality, but the mayonnaise style sauce was ordinary.

The waitress was cleaning the table beside us and using a cleaning fluid, which permeated the restaurant and our food.

This is not a place we would frequent.

Dishes not worth the money. We can compromise for delicious food with small portion. The portion serve extremely small and yet Not Yummy. Won't come back again

Located in Norwest business park, near the man-made lake, Tokio Fans has long been a family favourite for Japanese food around the Hills area. Not only is the dishes consistently well-made, the service has always been friendly and relatively efficient.

Nothing like the taste of being ripped off. The owners of this restaurant have deliberately gone out of their way to rip off the good people in the hills district by giving the absolute minimum that they can to each dish. We ordered a chef's sashimi salad costing $15.50 where it consisted of a few pieces of lettuce and 3 pieces of sashimi topped off with a table spoon of sour cream. The rest of the dishes continued in a similar fashion with the chef's special beef having an uncanny resemblance to maggi packet mix. Overall an expensive and embarrassing dining experience. I would recommend that you drive a little bit further for a better night out.

Embarrassing Night. Friend was buying dinner and we recommended this restaurant based on previous excellent experience.
The staff have all changed since last visit. Freezing cold as the doors are wide opened and wouldn't turn heater on. Terrible service - waitress and waiter were talking among themselves most night and we had to shout to get attention. Fish is not fresh and the rice had been frozen. sashimi colour is off. Eel and the rice smelt - most likely because it was frozen. Was a fan - NO LONGER.

I like it, the food was very good and location hsd good views by the lake.

Below average experience. Restaurant is very disorganised. Dined there on a Thur night, ordered salmon roe and egg sushi then were told they ran out of the ingredience. Did not have any specialty in dishes, waiters were always rushing. Not recommended if you are hoping for good atmosphere neither.

Great food and location!. This is our favored place since it opened. Consistent quality and a nice setting at the lake. The menu has something for every taste.
Highly recommended.

Food was good. Service was crap.

Worst than food court. 80% of the review said that the restaurant was good so I assumed that the remaining 20% were bias. However I was 100% disappointed.

The food quality was horrible. The seaweed on the sushi had been exposed in the air too long and was incredibly chewy. The tempura udon was no better either, it was covered up by lots of carrot and corns with spicy soup taste like instance noodle soup powder. I'm sure my 10 year old daughter can do a better job. Also, the service like the previous comments said "headless"... Never had such a bad experience in Japanese restaurant.

Favourite sushi place in the hills area. I always come to this restaurant and I think their sushi are gorgeous. I really enjoyed the Peking roll and the big ice boat with sashimi. I think it's a great local Japanese place.

Seriously? Just don't even go here cos the service is awful, but at least one waitress actually was sincere about the lateness of my beef teriyaki, so that's one redeeming factor.

Don't Bother. Went to this restaurant a few days ago and did not enjoy my time there. The food was expensive and came late (at least 30 mins wait). The kitchen food tasted like week old milk left out in the sun. The dessert was cheap (not pricing wise). It was 1 scoop of Coles ice cream with 1 - 2 stick of pocky. On top of that, there was this old guy standing around in the sushi bar looking at me. It creeped me the hell out... I almost lost my appetite.
Toasty
Don't bother. The food was good but terrible late, the service was the worst I have seen for ages. They waited about 15min before they asked if we'd like something to drink and order entrées and then another hour before we got 2/3 of the entrée and by that time they were closing the kitchen and we weren't able to order our main.
Don't waste your time.

Best Restaurant in the Hills!. This is by far the best restaurant in the Hills district. I have been here many time and never disapointed! Try the Bento Box (I think its only around $32 for 4 courses!)

Bad Dining Experience. My family went to have dinner in this fancy Tokio restaurant in Baulkham Hills, it turned out it was not so fancy at all. The service was bad, the waiters are running around like headless chooks, my son's order came 30 minutes late, but worst of all they served me the food I did not order. It was so disorganised, and needless to say just not going back there again. There's a lot of other restaurants in that area, more deserving of my money and praise.

New Fan. I enjoyed the peaceful view of the lake and the beautiful fresh fresh food, the sashimi and sushi in particular.
The modern presentation of the deserts was appealing to the eye.

Excellent food 10/10. The service was good when we got any. We needed MORE service.

After coming back from Japan last year I struggled to find authentic and consistently good Japanese food in my area (something more than just bento boxes). Tokio Fans ticks all the boxes. The salmon is always gorgeous. The unagi is delicate and well prepared and we can never order 'just one' serving of gyoza. Reasonably priced and worth every dollar. It's well situated on Norwest lake and traditionally styled. I've been back 4 times already and will continue to go.

Totally yummy 100% of the time never a Disappointment.

Best. Spicy. Udon. Ever.

Although, I have ordered a vegetarian meal, told them it needed to be vegan, had the waiter seems to understand, and then have stuff served to me covered in mayonnaise. That most likely has egg. So I would not recommend if you have any strict dietary requirements.

Good food. Great service. Yummy lychee drink ;D

Huge menu left us confused as to what we should order, but every dish was fantastic. Service was friendly as well as fast and efficient, what an excellent experience!
