The coffee is great, and the complimenting variety of desserts are amazing. I recommend getting the small fruit-flavoured cheesecakes such as raspberry or passionfruit. They aren't too sweet and are perfectly creamy. They also incorporate the fruit flavours really well and it does not taste even a tad artificial. The donuts I tried were great as well. You really cannot go wrong with any dessert items here.
Beautifully decorated interior, awesome array of gourmet cakes and pastry and interesting, tasty brunch and lunch menu. We had the Benedict adventure and the sweet potato & corn fritters. Both were full of flavour and the fritters were a huge serving. Coffee is ok but not amazing. We got a takeaway of a small selection of donuts, death by chocolate cake and almond croissant and all were very nice, except I expected much more frangipane almond filling in the croissant (however the texture of the croissant itself was very good). Very relaxing and beautiful cafe to dine in, not too expensive for what you are getting and the quality. I wouldnât say itâs really suitable for small toddlers due to the fancy interior but would be ok When itâs quieter during the week And not so crowded. Very busy on weekends and you canât book- so we went early in the morning and found it nice and not crowded highly recommend and canât wait to go back.
Found this hidden treasure in the industrial district of Bayswater. Awesome and creative food and great atmosphere, and will definitely be back again soon to try out the other dishes.

We have only tried high tea at this place and absolutely loved it. For $60 per person on weekday, high tea options here proved to be very good value. We started with two types of scones and a glass of champagne. The portion of the scones was quite subtantial, could well be a good size dessert by itself. Followed it, we had a gorgeous set of five savoury dishes. They're to die for, especially the ham hock with pineapple and the bacon and chorizo toastie. The food hit the table looking stunning, tasted even better. And then 5 types of desserts. This store is famous for their baked delicacy, so wouldn't have to tell anything about their dessert. And did i mention coffee and tea as u like it, all included in the price? We were so full with the amount of food. So it was definitely good value for money there. We loved everything from the delicate decor to the super friendly service.
The only thing u have to be mindful of is that u gotta plan ahead if u wanna try their high tea. Book in advance a month or so to avoid disappointment. But it's totally worth it!!

4.5, A great place for group, but make sure you call to book. Weekend is the busiest days. Had their Celebration plater...value for kids , not really, I would rather have their kid meal, burgers and chips are better for them. Juicy parties and crinkler cut chips. Overall, I would definately come again for their great ambience and varieties of dessert. The food are great, but their desserts are another level in the area.

It's always a great time at The Hatter and The Hare! This venue is just gorgeous, beautiful inside and out. On a warm day, I like to sit in the courtyard :)Â
I have been here multiple times for brunch, and once for a special dinner event. The food is always top notch, and there are plenty of vegan options.Â
They have an IMPRESSIVE array of desserts, including a couple of vegan sweets too.Â
The staff always seem to be friendly too, which makes the vibe even better.Â

Was finally able to try this place after attending several times with massive queues and wait times. Ordered the chase the white rabbit, the kings roll minus the egg and cappuccinos. All i can say is wow, the chase the white rabbit has scrambled eggs, kimchi, beef bulgolgi which tasted like scotch fillet steak, corn and salsa and all together tasted amazing, my mrs said it was the best cafe food she's had, the kings roll was also delicious, had spiced lamb sausage slab which looked like falafel balls, tomato chutney, aioli on a brioche bun. Cappuccinos were also great. Service was excellent, I can now tell why this place is always so busy. A must try! The place is on the pricey side but its worth it.
The location is terrible - It's in the middle of no where, but it seems to work so who am I to judge!The place, is themed, and it's done really well. It's a busy cafe - on any given day. Crazy on weekends.The food is ok but to be honest, probably wouldn't eat there again. A lot of people seem to go for the high tea selection.Â
The cakes however, redeem this place. Exceptional. One of the best places for cakes in Melbourne, and would travel to Bayswater just for their cakes.
Went here for Father's Day. The ambience is great. The presentation of food is wonderful and the staff are lovely. My husband had a Beef Burger. I had a ham & cheese croissant which was light and tasty. Loved their wavy potatoe wedges. Their cakes look very pretty. Would recommend this café for the experience.
Firstly parking is scarce so best to avoid even trying to get a park in the car park and park on the side streets. Service is quite slow as they were relatively busy. Food and coffee were served quite quickly. I ordered a latte, the mad hatters breakfast and the beef burger. Everything was good but nothing extraordinary or different. Just a standard brunch place with pretty decor. I had the lemon tart for dessert which was nice but again nothing special. Good if Iâm in the area but I wouldnât go out of my way to come here.

I can see why this place is so unbelievably packed!
The array of flowers, decorations, neon lights, funky music, and delicious desserts spread out on cake tiers, youâd feel like your a kid in a candy store!
Donât worry non-sweet toothers as there are your classic savoury dishes each with its own twist on the menu aswell.
I recommend sharing meals so that you can enjoy a range of desserts before you pop after chowing down that last piece of chocolate brownie on the plate.
This place reminds us adults to be a little silly, a little fun and a little happier.
We had lunch there today. The food was quite good. The deserts look so nice and the taste was great. There were so many customers due to Saturday. I made a phone call to try making an reservation, but I was told they donât make any reservations. So we have to wait a half hour to have seats. Itâs ok for me but I feel sorry for my parents because theyâre over 80 years old. I wish they can do something for older people in the future. Other than that, we had lovely lunch.

The Hatter and the Hare is a big restaurant with a great menu plenty of choice for anyone. We have been a couple of times and everything we have eaten has been good no complaints. Plenty of desserts to choose from and all delicious. Their chips are the best around nice and crisp. It is a little on the dark side because of the decor which I found a bit off-putting enough not to rush back and because of this gives a cold not warm vibe, going out to eat needs to be uplifting not dark and dreary. The staff are all very friendly and helpful which makes up for this a bit. Will go again at some stage but on a warm day.
Food is always good and cakes are truly amazing. Wait staff efficient and friendly when handling this super busy place. We have been both during weekdays and weekends and they are usually packed. Parking is tricky but available across the street or on street parking nearby. We ordered a chocolate classic layer cake for a birthday recently and it was huge and real good.
Beautiful sizeable cafe located conveniently in the burbs where there isnât much brunch or cake options around. Loved the atmosphere and decor at this place but the food was just average-good at best. The matcha latte I had was bland but it was a nice spot to catch up with friends.
The cakes were actually surprisingly delicious. I bought a few on the way out to eat at home. I wasnât expecting much since the brunch and the latte I had werenât all that amazing, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good the cakes were.

Wow! i was absolutely in love with this gorgeous gem in Bayswater, definitely worth the drive! the minute i walked in i was greeted nicely and the service was amazing! i loved the interior as it made the cafe so special
i ordered the âJabberwockyâs Taleâ and wow it was delicious!!! i especially loved the crispy salmon skin and the potato chive waffle!!! everything on this dish worked beautifully, with that lovely wasabi pea mousse and additional poached egg!
i then followed with dessert... what an amazing range of beautiful desserts! i decided to have the chocolate cake as it was gluten free, but they had some really cute desserts named after characters which looked beautiful and my friend was very happy with hers as she had âthe kingâs hatâ which looked beautiful inside too!

I really appreciated the theme of this cafe! The menu and decor all had an Alice in Wonderland twist to it. I tried the fried chicken loaded fries (no longer on the menu) and it was indulgent and a tasty weekend cheat meal. I also tried a smoothie which was average.Â
The cake display was impressive however I was too full to try any sweets.
It was a really busy cafe so it was difficult for the staff to be really attentive, but they sure tried their best to accommodate.

1) Lovely, different food. Interesting and tasty experience. Portion sizes are a little small, my partner was left a little hungry. So we took home a blueberry and choc mint cake. Had them over a cup of tea and they were utterly delicious.
2) Sat near the back kitchen watching all the chocolates, cakes and croissants get made.
Negatives:
1) Music is way too loud. Although it was my taste, not sure too many people would be happy listening to 50 Cent rap âIâm a Mother f-cking P.I.M.Pâ while having lunch. Particularly with so many kids around, I felt it was inappropriate music to have on.
2) The bill eek - quite expensive, much more than our usual trips out. Even when we removed the two cakes from the bill (not a usual expense for us) we were still looking at $15-20 over our usual spend.

One of the best places in the east side for brunch and dessert! Great place to just have coffee and meet friends for dessert. Food menu is also fun and have wide variety. Have tried most things and sometimes portion is big other times itâs too small. Depends on what you get. But overall, good food and coffee.

LIT! đ„: the big breakfast was great. It had a cubed hash brown which you rarely see and pork slab was tender. The raspberry croissant reminds me of a jam donut with custard inside. The carrot cake was sooo moist! Sweet toothâs dream.
NOT SO LIT: down the rabbit hole was way too spicy. I had it in doses and I canât imagine eating the entire dish.

Never have I ever had negative experience here. The owners are beautiful people and so passionate about this place. I've been coming since it opened, it is definately one of my absolute top favorite places. Food is always delicious, coffee is fabulous and the desserts, oh the desserts! Watching them expand and the customer base explode is just testament to how wonderful this place is.
Such cool food! The menu is interesting and a little hard to decipher but the dishes are amazing! The cakes and the open window to the bakery are really fun to watch. It's been a while since I've been, but I did have to wait for a table. I'm happy to wait for that kind of service and level of food.
I was incredibly excited to come by this morning and it definitely lived up to my expectations! The cafe itself smells amazing and watching the pastry chefs make the cakes and treats right before your eyes is just delightful. I ordered Dinahâs Treat and even though I felt like puking after from eating so much, it was definitely worth it. I also got a chai latte (my first time trying one!) and that was absolutely delicious. Will so be coming back again!
Wow. What a GEM in Bayswater. The venue itself is beautiful with insta opportunities everywhere. The cakes and tarts are absolutely beautiful and delicious. Coffee was fantastic. The service was outstanding. I have never experienced such friendly fast service. Best of all no eye rolls when we brought in a baby! It was actually the total opposite all the staff said hello to her. We were made to feel so welcome. Canât wait to go back
We had a lovely high tea on a Saturday afternoon for a work colleagues 60th birthday. The cafe is whimsical in its decor. Staff are run off their feet as the place is packed. It is very noisy but I must say I loved it and will do it again. 4 out of 5...with one point deducted due to slow service.

Definitely one of the most instagrammable cafes in town! We were mesmerized by the varieties of sweet treat over the counter the minute we walked in and just hope that we could try all of them! The brunch menu was simple but full of surprises, will definitely come back again!

This cafe is one of the biggest cafes I've been around Melbourne. I was quite surprised of how packed the place was when I got there. Their service was amazing, especially the lady at the counter, she was lovely and friendly. As for the food, we ordered both of the short ribs and fried chicken burger. The chicken one was better but what made it great was the chips on the side. I'd definitely come back to try more of their egg combo dishes when the whole egg incident has died out. N.B. You can park across the road if no parking space is available behind the cafe anymore
From the moment you walk into this cafe the experience is fantastic. The wait staff are helpful and welcoming, as is the huge counter display of sweet delicacies. I felt like a child in a chocolate shop with my nose pressed against the glass. Seated outside there is just enough sunlight to warm your bones and the greenery makes you forget you are on a main road. The menu is a wonderful adventure of Alice in wonderland references and some very theatrical items, hot tea over dry ice..... I highly enjoyed my brunch, although a glass of sparkling wine would have put the cherry on the top but alas no alcohol is served here. This is a great place for lunch with the girls.

Eye catching restaurant with beautiful decorations. They change the indoor and outdoor settings quite frequent, basically according to different season and special occasions. I believe the settings in my photos are for the Valentineâs Day.
Staff are generally friendly and food are presented nicely. In general the drink is nice but the food are just so so, either the breakfast or the desserts, looks tempting but doesnât taste as expected. Very limited parking as well. Good for photo taking, casual gathering and children friendly.
This gem is situated in an industrial area. Upon entering, you are greeted with a delicious array of miniature cakes. The menu items were healthy and some with unique ingredients you wouldn't normally see on a cafe menu. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast and cakes.
The staff were lovely and decor was just gorgeous.

One little thing to mention is that there are minimal parking spaces, we had to park across the road which was fine, but just a little troublesome and dangerous trying to cross a fairly busy road with a baby.

Took mum to the hatter and the hare for her birthday and we both loved the interior decor of the place as well as the unique food taken from the inspiration of Alice in Wonderland! The food presentation and style is beyond magical with the addition of liquid nitrogen on my "queen's potion" dish!
The ambience is always incredible and is frequently updated with seasonal / festive themes. Service is great with super friendly staff and prompt staff.
The food is creative and delicious but my favourite part is that the coffee is always perfect.
Food was exceptional and magnificent. Chase the White Rabbit was delicious and with the added Hash Brown, it made the meal absolutely delicious!
This is a gem amongst an industrial location! Sometimes a fun and quirky cafe like this one disappoints with lack lustre food, not in this case! I had the Alice in Wonderland inspired Smashed Avo, delish! Followed by a lengthy decision process about which sweet treat to have. I chose a mint inspired petite gateux, which was perfectly balanced in flavour and not too sweet! Can't wait to go back! The only point of improvement would be the service, which wasn't as attentive as I would have liked.
Delighted to find something upbeat and quirky in the East. Parking is a royal pain and we skip this place a lot because of it, I've been twice during weekdays. Fantastic decor, loud, busy, but with sufficient service. Coffee is nice, and if you love super sweet treats then this is the place for you. A huge selection of wondrous flavorsome sweet-tooth cakes, and a small but quality meals menu with narrow variety. I enjoyed the meal, hubby not so much .. mum and I both loved the cakies and coffee.

This wonderland themed cafe has been on my to visit list for a long time & I finally dropped by yesterday! Due to the festive season approaching, the whole cafe was beautifully decorated for the festive season! đ We ordered the benedictine adventure ($24) for the savoury portion. It was an impressive deconstructed egg benedict, with a very generous serving of hollandaise sauce đ! My only complain would be that the serving size is on the smaller side, leaving us wishing for more đ. When you first enter the cafe, you are greeted by an array of pastries to choose from! With so many fancy and delightful pastries & tarts & desserts, it left me with a hard time deciding on one! I finally settled for the "queen" ($9$ which was a very complex, multi component, white chocolate mousse đ«. It was rich and indulgent but the berry đ elements balanced the sweetness of it all! I would definitely return again to try some other menu items! đ
Both brunch and desserts were unique and a true degustation experience. Owner and chef was really nice and the place was beautiful! Definitively recommend going.

I had a lovely experience at The Hatter and the Hare. Upon arrival I instantly loved the feel and decor in the restaurant. It was very fresh and inviting.
So many of the items on the menu sound delicious and I love the creativity of the dishes and their names.
I ordered Off With Their Heads and added a hashbrown on the side. It was absolutely delicious - the flavours really complimented each other and it was really filling. Highly recommend trying this! My Mum & Cousin ordered Dinahâs Treat and my Dad ordered the Tweedledee Burger with chips. They too were really happy with their meals.
The cake selection is next level and the shapes and designs is really creative and appealing.
Staff were very friendly and were happy to assist when I asked questions about some of the dishes. Meals came out fairly quickly, especially considering how busy the venue was.

I went there with my wife, the service was excellent and the waitress had a lot of patience with us as we asked a lot of questions (as my wife is pregnant);the lady at the counter was even better as she gave us complimentary brownie just cos we drove an hour just to get there;) no need to say that the food and pastries are extraordinary!an example of a well planned and organized business!

What an amazing space in the middle of an industrial area. Although it was breakfast time I just wanted their cakes! So I had the delicious hash brown, which has mustard through it, then had the cronut filled with lemon and passion fruit cream, it was delicious & only $6! My friend had the lemon tart which was amazing. Worth noting they serve their coffee warm not super hot, but it was very good.
A fave bruch spot. Reccomend not looking at the dessert case when you enter as they look as beautiful as they taste and you may just find yourself skipping brunch and going straight to the sweets! Yum. Worth a trip out east.
An oasis in the middle of Bayswater, between factories and warehouses. Car parks can be limited, but you are also allowed to park in Bayswater Hotel right opposite (they have an agreement). Big-modern eatery with plenty of seatings, up to date menu spreads, fresh cakes (big, medium and small). We visited for brunch on a very busy Saturday, were quickly seated, well looked after and the food came out quickly. We were impressed with the quality of food, coffee and cakes. Staffs are efficient and friendly too. Prices are quite on the high side, but it reflects well with the quality of food and services you get.
Food was Delicious ! We tried the smashed avo and duchess kitchen. Will definitely go back :) It gets busier during lunch time so would recommend booking the table before going.
Living so close by to this gem was a bonus on top of all the delicious food! I loved the waffles especially and the Rosti was good too. The chess coffee was definitely unique and fun although i thought maybe an instruction card on how to mix the coffee could be ideal as we were a little confused on how to mix it. Positives from me as service has always been super friendly!
A gorgeous little cafe in bayswater. Great breakfast selection and a truly awesome display of all things sweet in the vitrines. Menu is super long, so take your time reading, but Iâm very happy with my choice of the baked eggs in cheese with macadamia nut crunch, a side of polenta and crushed chorizo (bit salty on its own) overall a very rich serving, which was also quite big so this is definitely a dish to be shared. Coffee was good, and the service was friendly and informative. Must go back for dessert and coffee one day soon.
I really enjoyed the cakes here. There so many too choose from and they were pretty inexpensive compared to many other places. The presentation of all the cakes were so pretty. I had some cheesecakes and a chocolate cake and I loved them both. I also tried to eclair which wasnât the best eclair Iâve tried but still good. Overall, would return to try more.

The Hatter & the Hare is located on Scoresby Road in Bayswater. Itâs a lovely open style setup with all their gorgeous sweet treats beautifully displayed in glass cabinets. The interior is quite spacious featuring a rose wall & lots of plants and greenery. You can see into the kitchen & watch the talented pastry chefs at work although Iâm sure most people are drawn to the stunning cakes & desserts.
I was invited to try their High Tea with a few foodie friends. The table was set up beautifully and we started with tea, rosĂš & scones. I wasnât quite sure what to expect but the set up was so pretty I had a feeling we were in for a treat.
When the savoury platter arrived, our jaws hit the floor, as did those dining around us. The stunning stand featured 4 tiers of savoury delights. I loved the creativity of the dishes, sushi bowls, brisket sliders, fried tofu, smoked trout on croutons & some more traditional chicken sandwiches. The servings were also extremely generous, no tiny finger food in sight.
Next up was the sweet selection, again stunningly presented & with some serious wow factor. This tower of goodness treated us to tarts, friands, macarons, bonbons & a passionfruit pudding. The High Tea also provided coffee, tea, fruit soda & sparkling wine. The raspberry soda was so pretty & one of the most refreshing soft drinks Iâve tried.
Such an incredible High Tea, only added to by the fantastic service we received by the staff. If youâre a fan of High Tea, this is one you really must try. Thank you so much to the amazing team at the Hatter & the Hare for a truly memorable experience.

Location was a bit hard to find parking, ended up parking across the road at the nearby hotel, definitely a bit of an hassle there.
Service was good here, the interior was pleasing, very comfortable feel.
The menu had few Asian fusion items, which I loved. I ordered the chilli prawn scrambled eggs, (i donât normally order chilli food) i really enjoyed it, with Asian herbs on top, except the chilli sauce was just sriracha, and only half a prawn was found. Very basic and simple dish, but was very good. Cleaned the plate.
My friend ordered the Benedict, which she liked! She liked the fact it had hash instead of bread!

Visited this place to have a brunch. Very nice menu with lot of options available for a reasonable price. Very attentive staff. .. fast and friendly service . Outstanding Decorations and ambiance. One of the nicest place in Bayswater. canât miss out..
Awesome concept cafe with unique menu and fantastic patisserie! I ordered the âoff with their headsâ dish which was cauliflower, pea and goats cheese fritters with pickled vegetables, pumpkin pesto and edamame verde with a side of chorizo ragu. Massive portion size but the fritters themselves were very light and airy so it was manageable. The chorizo ragu was a delicious addition too. Amazing selection of desserts on offer too. Shame I was too full to try them!
What a great find! We were in the area and thought weâd check out Hatter and Hare given such great rating. The rating is well deserved, we had the celebration dance which looked too good to eat but eat we did. We live Bayside and would travel the 40min to eat here again.
This place was great, had friendly staff, great coffee, great service and great food. However it was sad to have not been offered another seat or to have the umbrella moved as it started to rain above me and it was a bit annoying. Overall it was a great brunch place and highly recommend. The waffle chips is a MUST GET.
