We've been a couple of times now and tried quite a number of items. They've all been delicious. The standout dishes for me are the Laksa and char kway teow - packed with flavour and generous portions. Texture of the satay chicken skewers was great, tho the sauce was a tad too sweet. Will be back to try more dishes!
First time here after my brother recommended it. Delicious food, great service and so clean! The chicken laksa was perfectly spicy and had great flavour and the char kway teow was smokey and delicious! Will definitely be back.
My fav Malaysian restaurant! Authentic, delicious, reasonably priced, clean, quick & friendly service!
Beautiful food! Nice atmosphere! The vegetarian laksa is to die for! Honestly, the best I’ve had! Will definitely be back!
Staffs were attentive on a Friday night. We have ordered the salt and pepper chicken, har mee, chicken laska, beef rendangand veggie okra in curry. The salt and pepper chicken you hardly see the chicken inside although the flavour of it was yummy. The veggie okra also same, you can hardly see the okra. The taste curry is sweet one if you like it. I would recommend the har mee they add a little bit noodles inside as the noodles are not expensive. The soup taste is not bad!
The Char Kuay Teow has great char flavour and assortment of ingredients. Authentic Malaysian taste! Would visit again and try the Hiannese Chicken Rice and other dishes!

Came here for dinner and try their squid satay, stir fry noodle and fried rice.
All of them are good especially the fried rice.
Friendly staff and good service too.
Entered for lunch on a quiet Thursday morning. Ordered the hainanese chicken rice, salt and pepper squid, and seafood nasi goreng. The chicken was tender and juicy. The squid was crispy with flavoursome spices. I felt the nasi goreng needed more spice to it.
A great laksa place in the outer eastern suburbs.
The chicken curry laksa here is packed full of authentic flavours and each mouthful has your tastebuds singing. The restaurant has attitude and is quite bright and modern, none of this however detracts from the food. It is nice to see an authentic asian restaurant serving delicious food with an updated and edgy decor.
The serving size was large and filling - I can definitely see why this is a local favourite
i’m a real fan of junior tan. admittedly i come here for the veggie laksa every time. it’s richly flavoured with a fine float of oil that just rounds out a really satisfying laksa for me. the veggies have that just popped in the steaming broth freshness and are more plentiful than the noodles. the decor and layout is pleasant, inviting and cosy despite being busy whether it’s lunch or dinner time. there is a variety of seating options - tables and chairs, high seats, window benches. the waitstaff are always friendly and the service very prompt. for all this and the price too, it’s worth a little travel time. junior tan is certainly a pleasing find in the outer suburbs :)
Nice ambience and polite service. Parking was easy too with plenty of free 2P lots. Ordered the curry chicken laksa, crispy skin chicken rice, the ramly burger and the salt and pepper chicken with rice. Would definitely come back for the curry laksa - yummy! Salt and pepper chicken was a little too salty for me. Seating-wise, we found the high table and chairs a bit uncomfortable so would hope to get the normal height table next visit :)
Overall a great dining experience.
Heading into Junior Tan at the end of a Friday night. Inexpensive and fast service. It was busy and happening. Food was delicious and serving sizes were not over the top. Great place for a tasty meal.
A great place for dinner. I've tried much of the menu & the food never disappoints. Very authentic flavors and the ambiance is also nice. This has become a favorite of ours for Friday night dinners!
First time last night with he bro and I have to say that we were both pleasantly surprised. Notably, food prep appears to be somewhat different to most places I've been to with, for example, the satay skewers. Rather than the traditional fried sticks, it appeared the chicken was steamed, which when topped with a specific satay made for a totally different experience. Very fresh I suspect is an appropriate description.
We also liked how the San Choy Bau was presented, and the taste was great. Likewise the black pepper beef in hokkein noodles. The beef was excellent, not chewy at all, indeed the more we ate the better it got. Quite Impressed. We will be back.
Ordered takeaway appetizers because I wasn't feeling too hungry for dinner and oh my, I actually wanted more.
I ordered a soft shell crab on brioche bun, junior burger and kataffi prawns and after eating it, regretted not ordering double of the burgers. Definitely stirs up an appetite even if you're not hungry!
The soft shell crab burger is amazing, better than any other Ive had in cafes and the bak kwa (pork jerky) in the Junior tan burger was perfectly glazed.
It's amazingly good (and fast as I called 10 mins before arriving and it was ready), can't imagine how much better it would be if I had it in store.
Definitely will be back to try the other dishes.
Nice buzzing little place, food was nice,
but underwhelming, I was expecting a bit more kick to the rendang, and a little stronger flavour, it was fairly mild
On the plus side, beef was falling apart tender, and roti was great (2 medium sized pieces)
Friendly staff
The food is decent here. We had the eggplant chips, beef rendang, chicken curry, rotis and harmee. The highlights were the eggplant chips which I never had before and the rotis were also nice. I would say the beef rendang and chicken curry were good but on par with what you'd get somewhere else. The harmee for me could have been better. As for dessert, I thought the pandan crêpes with coconut and palm sugar were absolutely gorgeous! Green tea ice cream was good but again, nothing special. All in all, we were satisfied with our meal. Nice place with modern decor and excellent service. I'm not sure what prices are usually like in Bayswater as this is the first time I dine in this area but they're not bad in Melbourne CBD terms. It was busy on a Saturday evening and we got there early so we were lucky to get a table without a booking.
This place has exactly what I want at that night. The highlight of that night is the kungkong with shrimp paste!! Must try!!! the other one is the chicken wing (well maybe I am a chicken wing person). I would say that the food here is more sweet than the usual Asian food but it was great!!! About the Location - well it’s a little bit hard to find but it was right besides the Aldi. I would definitely come back for another casual dinner.
FYI, I also tried Singapore noodles, Roti and banana bread desert that night.
Junior Tan has a great atmosphere, and once you walk inside you completely forget you’re in Bayswater! Have tried a couple of the dishes (salt and pepper calamari, beef noodles, GF dumplings) and they have all been yummy. The only downside is that it’s slightly pricey for the area. I’m looking forward to trying more of their dishes.
I’ve dined here twice so far and am consistently impressed with the quality of the food each time. My favourite dish by far would be the Char Kway Teow which is prepared to perfection. The texture of the Kway Teow is always never too soggy or too dry. Its prepared using just the right portions of salt and oil. Definitely the best in Melbourne that I’ve had by far. In addition to that, I also tried the Yee Mee dish which certainly brings back memories of having had the same dish back in Singapore. The Teh Tarik is also one of the best ones around town.
The menu had a wide variety to choose from. The place itself has ample seating and car parks are easy to find, right by the entrance.
It’s a bit of a drive out from the city but if you don’t mind the distance, I would highly recommend this place! A definite must try!!
Had the nasi lemak with beef rendang and teh tarik for a drink.
First impression when the nasi lemak arrived, was the relatively small portion compared to other places. Taste-wise, it hits the spot, flavourful rice with spicy sambal and gravy from the beef rendang. Fried anchovies and peanuts were good as expected (some places do serve stale fried anchovies and peanuts that lack that toasty aroma). The beef rendang was tasty and meat was very tender, but was hoping it's the drier thick gravy one with strands of spices and curry leaves. This one's on the watery side.
The teh tarik came with a thick microfoam, after taking a sip, I could tell it's probably from the espresso machine's milk frother. So it's not pulled traditionally from the looks of it as you'd have bigger bubbles otherwise. Taste is pretty good from what I've tried in Melbourne so far, although it still can't fully replicate the ones back in Malaysia.
Would definitely come again if I'm in the area. Also, thumbs up for the subtle Nando's portrait!
Seriously authentic! Food that replicated like how it’s cooked back in KL. By far, the best malaysian cuisine i’ve tried in Melbourne. I ordered the nasi goreng (tasted just like the hawker stalls in penang) and the nestum prawns (which probably put the best seafood restaurants in Singapore to shame). I will be back :)
We had lunch today .Had the Hainan chicken rice and the shrimp paste fried chicken wing . All delicious . Reasonable price . The young man at the counter is very friendly with a lovely smile . Thank you.
Checks all the boxes. Comfortable dining atmosphere, good food, not overpriced. If you're in the area, definitely should check this place out.
The only real downside is that it's in Bayswater, which might not be the most accessible spot.
Fantastic restaurant. Food is delicious and fresh. Service was quick and staff were friendly and obliging. Highly recommend , will certainly eat there again.
Felt like some malaysian food tonight and didn't want to go to the usual places, so tried here and did not disappoint us.
We ordered Har Mee, Nasi Lamak, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Roti, Kangkung, Crab ballz, JFC, 2 desserts - pandan crepes and sago pudding.
Overall, the taste was good. Har Mee was on the spicy side, noodles were a bit overcooked. The rice from the rice dishes was a little dry but if you put a spoon of the soup that came with the rice it will be ok. The rest of the dishes were quite nice.
I think I have another option to add to my usual place list.
I had the chicken laska and really enjoyed it. Was well balanced and not too oily. Service was friendly even though I only had take away. New place with great ambiance.
The nasi goreng was my favourite but the rest of the food was great as well. Been here twice and i'm definitely coming back. The service was fast and i like the whole ambience of the restaurant.
One of the better Prawn Noodle and Char Kuay Teow. Teh Tarik was good too. Will definitely go back for more. Did not expect it to have such a modern cafe ambience though.
Ordered Laksa and Char keuy teow and 2 milk teas with my friends. Food taste delicious and i love the smoothness of the bubbles on top of the milk tea.
My expectations were high due to the raves from Zomato and Asian friends in a foodie group. I tried the "famed" laksa (seafood) and teh tarik. On first sip of the soup, it tasted diluted. Yes, the ingredients were fresh and serving was quite decent, but that wasn't enough to satisfy my craving for a true laksa with "lemak" (coconut milky) fragrance. I'd have given 3 stars for the laksa and the lack of smile from the guy who served me this arvo (the one with the cap), but because of the very decent teh tarik, I awarded Junior Tan Hawker 3.5 stars. I should have gone to Straits Cafe and I'm guaranteed a more satisfying meal.
Been here a few times for some laksa and rate it pretty highly.
Good roti & satay sauce.
Admittedly been a while since I've been, so I need to head back to refresh my memory of the other good food there
Friendly staff and very good and reasonable price. The food is good and the atmosphere is good for casual dining. Highly recommended, one of the best restaurants in that area.
Junior Tan has the best Char Kuey Teow around Melbourne I reckon. Chicken rice was average. Curry Laksa was also average. But if you are going in a bigger group, I would recommend you order dishes with rice.
Awesome food and fantastic fast service. Always enjoy dining here. Staff are always friendly and polite. The restaurant has wonderful ambiance too
This place sometimes looks empty, but don't be fooled. The customers are sometimes just up the back where seating is better.
This is a really, really great Laksa. And we've got decent standards (disciples of the original Laksa King). Highly recommended.
Kid friendly, too.
i hav nut evin eaten dis yet but its rly gud truzt me im not bein hired by dem to do good review i just happy person k so it is 5 star meal when i azent even eatens it
extremely moist, loved it. their chicken curry was full of delicious meaty moist deliciousness. unfortunately their dry foods were not moist, this was incredibly disappointing.
Invited to dinner with friends, having never been here before, we will certainly be back. Busy, comfortable, plenty on the menu to choose from, great service and the food, which arrived in good time was fresh, tasty and hot. I wouldn't class it as a cheap eat but the food is well worth the very reasonable price. Easy to get to with plenty of parking, a top spot.
I first tried Junior Tan HK last month with a takeaway order of the Char Koay Teow and Dry Beef Hor Fan. Both dishes were well-wok fried and not overly greasy like in some other Asian restaurants. My partner suspects the beef slices in his Dry Hor Fan had been marinated, so that added a layer of flavour to his noodle dish. That initial experience was enough to draw us back to dine in this sleek-casual restaurant, its chilled-out ambience a standout in this part of town. Partner went for the Dry Beef Noodles again while I enjoyed the Chicken Curry Laksa which was generous on chicken pieces, pillowy fried tofu and unctuous chunks of eggplant. The Teh Tarik (malaysian pulled tea) was creamy and thankfully, not overly sweet. Our hawker-style meals came with a complimentary serve of sambal. Service was efficient, swift and friendly. Nice work guys!
UPDATE: Came back and tried the Curry Laksa - the broth was FAN-f*n-FASTIC and serving size was extremely generous, still love this place. Also had a glass of Pavan for $7, cheap cheap. I absolutely LOVED it here! It's spacious yet quiet and has a really chilled out vibe. We were greeted with smiles and were seated straight away by friendly staff as soon as we walked through the door. The lady serving us was really helpful and knowledgeable in regard to the menu and all of the dishes on it. I ordered the Char Kuay Teow and it was delicious. The serving was generous and it was full of flavour. The texture of the noddles was a bit "mushy", maybe over cooked? but apart from that it was perfect, AND cheap! I was shocked at how quickly our food came out too. As soon as we ordered we heard the chef cooking up our dish straight away - so efficient! I almost wish it took longer so I could have spent more time in the restaurant because I loved the décor. I can't wait to return to try the Curry Laksa and some of the cocktails, they were quite cheap from what I can remember.
Our favourite local! Friendly service, delicious food! The seafood laksa is definitely my favorite. Love the decor! Everyone we introduce to Junior Tan become regulars themselves!
We were in Bayswater area yesterday and was looking for a place to eat. Decided to try Junior Tan Hawker Kitchen since it's got good ratings and we were close by. When we stood outside we thought the restaurant was closed as we didn't see anyone. Only when we enter, we realised the section closer to the entrance had bench tables and bar stools and there was an inside section with normal tables.
We ordered the chicken satay, roti with peanut sauce to share, I had the char kway teow and my partner who is Aussie had the nasi lemak. At first he was hesitant as he didn't know if it's too spicy for him. The waitress was really nice, she served him a small dish of the curry gravy for him to try if it's too spicy for his liking. Thumbs up for the service 👍🏻! The roti was fluffy and the peanut sauce was really nice. Satay was average only in terms of taste and the portion size. I've had satay in other places with bigger skewers, taste better and fire the same price. The nasi lemak was served with curry chicken, achar, egg, cucumber, fried anchovies, roasted peanuts, and sambal onions. My partner likes it. I love the curry chicken gravy. My char kway teow was only so so. It came with a small dish of sambal for me to add into it myself. I would prefer to have the chilli fried together with the noodles.
Most of their lunch special is well priced at $10.90 with some a couple of dollars more. Service is very good, great atmosphere and clean.
This hidden gem in Bayswater pleasantly surprised me!
The serene ambiance sets the tone for a relaxed meal with family or friends, coupled with brilliant staff and prompt table service of food and beverages.
Cannot fault the alcoholic beverage selection, nor the dishes and desserts available which are well-presented and above all, delicious!
Highly recommend the san choy bao to start, followed by the Mongolian beef served with a side dish of their unique chicken fried rice.
Fantastic place to enjoy a casual meal over a few drinks, and definitely worth visiting if you haven't done so.
Really great place in the suburbs. Recommend going here for the roti bread alone. Makes me hungry thinking about it! Great food and staff. Good service. I like their noodles, entrees and everything in between. Not too expensive. Good inside decor makes it a place to eat in (as opposed to most places here which are really take away). Go but book.
Been to Junior Tan many times now and they are always consistent with the service and the quality is excellent. The prices are very reasonable.
So the JFC is like Korean fried chicken but popcorn version, crispy with a bit of salad and mayo sauce to balance the salty batter would go great with beer. Rices with ginger beef is a hint of ginger you can just taste the ginger on the beef but it's not a powerful kick like most places. I do suggest trying the ginger beef it's perfect. Beef was just cooked, still soft and juicy. The drinks are amazing. Nice and refreshing.
Kids and pram friendly heaps of space. Service = great. Will be coming back to try out other dishes.
So glad we came here. Ordered to share were the highly recommended Char Kway Teow (it didn't disappoint), Har Mee (with comforting delicious broth),special of the day Braised Duck with Ee Mee (i loved it but my hubby didn't fancy th herbal taste),succulent Belacan Chicken Wings (i think this is the Har Cheong Gai), Delicious Nestum Prawns (no shells makes it easier to eat and they went in a second as the prawns were so fresh and lastly the Pandan Coconut Crepe with Vanilla Icecream and raspberry sauce (loved the warm coconut in the soft crepes). Sorry didn't stop to take a single photo as we were famished and couldn't stop digging into the fine eats. The staff were attentive and friendly. D, we will definitely be back. Probably as soon as next week for their $10.90 lunch specials.
At 6pm today, arrived home to find the place is still quiet. In other words, dinner's not prepared. In the next 30mins, it starts to fill and the inevitable question is, 'What's for dinner?'
We head off to Bayswater. Of late, Bayswater is shaping to be a food haven. We have tried a number of eateries there but we decided to head to JTHK for some good ol' Malaysian fare.
I have passed the place a number of times previously but never stepped in as I thought the joint is too cool to serve good food. My perception of a good Malaysian fare is the shop should be slightly disheveled, spartan, a tad dirty and a brightly lit place. JTHK's none of the above. I thought I will be taking a risk but was glad to be proven wrong.
We shared 5 dishes, hawker-style. The entrée, belachan chicken wing, ironically was the last fish to be served. I have to say I was impressed with the pungent smell of belachan on the onset. The skin was crispy and the flesh, mmmmm.... succulent. However, it was a tad salty. I would have preferred that the chef ease of the salt a bit and it would have been heavenly. That said, it was great value as you get 3 full wings.
The Hokkien mee is the biggest disappointment. It wasn't 'dark' enough and the sweet sauce that was use is just wrong. You get the impression a Caucasian chef whipped the up. You get the picture. The thing with KL Hokkien mee, one needs to make it dark. The sweet-salty balance is also very important. This dish was sweet. And the portion is also a little stingy. We also cannot find pork slices that we saw in the menu description. So, this one will be crossed out when we next visit.
Char koey teow, I dare to say, is the best I have tasted in Melbourne on this occasion for the longest time. This is no easy claim but the dish I had was fragrant, laced generously with crispy pork lard, with the noodle is fried with just the right amount of oil (yes, I find most other places' char koey teow to be too dry or oily) and for a fleeting moment, I thought I was holidaying in Malaysia
Ramly burger meal is just gimmicky, leveraging the good name of the Ramly beef patty in Malaysia. That said, the burger is juicy and the fries was outstanding. I just didn't like that Junior Tan took advantage of a Malaysian food institution to its advantage.
The kids bento box is good value but I didn't really tasted it.
Overall, JTHK is well worth a visit. I think the decor is actually a plus as it removes some of my perception on a Malaysian restaurant. JTHK feels modern, comfortable and relaxing. Overall, the food is above average and when you combine the two, that warrants a second visit to sample the other food on the menu.
Came here on a friday night and ordered a Wat Dan hor and kl hokkien mee ! The hokkien mee was nice but wat Dan hor could have been saltier! Overall not a bad place!
Would have given a higher rating but the noise levels kill this joint. You'll be screaming at your family. Food and service is fantastic. Loved every dish, really strong pronounced flavours. Been a couple of times and really happy both times. Definitely worth a go.
WOW!!!! Very rare that you find a restaurant that will absolutely blow you away! We finally found it! The food here is simply outstanding. We started with the san choy bao which was beautifully presented and delicious. The soft shell crab in a brioche bun was equally as good. I then had a chicken Laksa that was by far the best I've ever had, while my 2 dining buddies shared a Kung Pow Chicken, Beef Renadang and a vegetable Nasi Goreng. All dishes were to die for! We finished our meal with desserts, banana fritter with generous amounts of icecream, coconut pancakes and green tea icecream. The coffee was hot and beautifully made too. The service and attention to detail was amazing and every customer was attentively looked after. Great value for money and really nicely appointed. Can't wait to return again next week! A+
One of my favorite places to eat! The food is delicious here! I love the Spicy Squid, Char Kae Tow, the Roti bread, the Jerky burger and the soft shell crab burger! Everything I have eaten has been spot on!
Really enjoyed our meal here. Salt n Peppa squid and char kway teow was amazing, beef rending very tasty too. Lovely staff all very friendly.
I have been here a number of times and have never been disappointed with the food I have chosen. I particularly love the Salt and pepper squid and the KC Chicken! They have lots of gluten free options too and reasonably priced food and drinks. Bayswater is becoming the outer east foodies hangout!
Had lunch at 'Junior Tan' today as it was recommended by a friend. Finding Malaysian restaurants in Melbourne that serve delicious and local favourites can be a hit and miss but 'Junior Tan' did not disappoint! They had some lunch specials as well.
My friend and I shared the char kuay teow and nasi lemak with chicken curry. Both were very tasty and generous in serving size! The smokiness and flavour of the char kuay teow dish definitely reminded me of home. The friendly staff and prompt service topped of the meal too. Also, the interior of the restaurant was appealing too. Do give 'Junior Tan' a visit! They have plenty of parking spots opposite to the place.
this restaurant belongs on chapel street!way to cool for Bayswater - phenomenal food and great value (Try the Ramly burger for something completely different)but my tried and true meal is the seafood nasi goreng which is served so quick!BEST PLACE THIS SIDE OF EASTLINK
Nice food. Not the best I've had but really lovely staff. Would recommend if in the area or want a relaxing dinner out with a group of friends or family.
First time for lunch here .... on friend's recommendation, thank you FM.
Great to be able to enjoy authentic Malaysian Hawker food in the outer suburb of Melbourne; Bayswater. Say 15 years ago? Impossible .... It's what POSITIVE multiculturalism is all about, enriching the community, not taking it away.
A little bit hidden, not on the main drag, plenty of parking, from the signage on the dark glass window suggest a well design establishment. It was, that Post-modern Asian influence interior, old Chinese posters as wall paper, cafe lighting, etc. pleasant on the eyes, great ambiance.
On the food itself, my Char Kwee Tiaw has that classic burnt taste, although it was a bit heavy on the Soysauce but those Squids, Prawns, Chinese Sausage and the star of the show Pork Cracklings are all in there working hard plus the Sambal and fresh cut Chilies; Double Happiness to accompany this CKT.
Cockle on the CKT perhaps?
We'll be back with the troop so I can order more food.
WELL DONE and thank you to the Proprietor for the vision in bringing the Malaysian Hawker Food Spirit all the way to Bayswater.
Nice atmosphere and service. Char kuay teow and wan tan hor had a good flavour but felt like something was missing to it. Ramly burger had the right flavour and the jfc had a nice crunchy batter. The curry laksa was spicy as it should and had a generous amount of noodles.
Located in Bayswater, Junior Tan Hawker Kitchen adds to your list of Malaysian restaurants to choose from in Victoria. The decor inside Junior Tan has this colourful 1920’s Chinese era imagery on the walls that I haven’t see done before. On their menu, some of the items have a slight twist to it like Eggplant chips, Balachan chic-a-wings or even a ‘Malaysian’ burger. However, they do also offer the more traditional dishes such as Nasi Lemak, Laksa, Char Kway Teow and Nasi Goreng.
Sunday night family dinner we got there early and slowly filled up by about 630. Group of 5 and everyone loved the food not one complaint. Great to see a place like this in the outer east absolutely loved it.
Have only been here for lunch - awesome value for money as a lunch time meal. Laksa is fantastic on a cold day!! Good efficient service and the decor is much nicer than other restaurants in the area.
Such a diamond in the rough. So good. Busy as so service was a bit slow but food was so good. MVP goes to the Laksa. Nice decor that looks as if this place belongs in Melbourne CBD.
By far our favourite restaurant in Bayswater! Such a gem. Authentic Malaysian food, friendly staff and reasonably priced. We are here almost on a weekly basis. Char kuay teow is my favourite. They also serve ramly burger here which can get a little messy, but super yum. Oh and don't forget to order lychee ribena too!
Couldn't be more impressed with this little gem. Great customer service, good prices, fast service and delicious food. What more could you want?!
Head waiter was super friendly and even offered us fried rice after we made the mistake of choosing the wrong dish & didn't even charge us! Will definitely be back
Good food. Close to what we used to get to home. Nice and clean place. Prices are reasonable for lunch. Please provide more cutlery to cater for children next time. Will come back to try their desserts one day.
Four of us came here for lunch today. Although the food wasn't bad but wasn't the top. But I found the taste and the quality are better than the few nearby. Service was good staffs were friendly. Oh and their green tea ice cream and black sesame ice cream were very yummy.
had a fantastic meal here today, loved the Junior burger and the pandan crepes. great service with friendly attentive staff! will be back :)
The Malaysian side of my family love this place. The English side of my family love this place. I love this place! Staff are friendly, food is tasty, have some great beers, and that nasi lemak with beef, bliss!
This restaurant is tucked away behind the shopping centre. It has a great modern atmosphere and really good food. We ordered the Satay, Char Kuay Teow and Curry Laksa and all dishes were very tasty.
Lovely little Malaysian joint tucked away in a car park in Bayswater. I've been here a number of times - but am yet to try any of the hawker noodle dishes. We usually come as a family group - 4 adults and a toddler - and are usually drawn to ordering shared dishes with rice. The kangkong is always a winner, as is the JFC. The 2 year old loves the Junior Burger. Asian flavored icecreams (durian, green tea) are a steal at $3 a serve (2 scoops) - and tastes great too. Well, at least the green tea one does - not a fan of durian myself, but my mum thinks it's awesome. A regular favourite dinner spot for us - it always is a hit with our whole family.
Charming and delicious!
Cute little surprise in the back of Bayswater.
Modern deco, cosy and comfortable.
Staff were friendly and attentive.
Prices very reasonable.
Food was all delicious.
Great sharing dishes.
Have been several times now.
Will continue to come back!
-------- 21/6/15 ----------
Favourite dishes:
JFC - fried chicken bites with dipping sauce
Sambal KangKong - yum
Junior Burger - tasty little bite of pork and sweet bread. Good for the little kiddies
Salt & Pepper Squid - good, but I preferred it with chicken (ate last time). It's not like you would expect salt and pepper squid. It's covered in fried shallots, chilli and spring onion. This kind of covering I love on chicken but I didn't like it as much on the squid. The squid itself was well cooked so no complaints there.
Wasn't a huge fan of the Gado Gado. Not enough variety of vegetables. It was mostly peanut sauce. The sauce was excellent, but overall not what I'm used to in a Gado Gado.
FANTASTIC SERVICE ! Delici.... FANTASTIC SERVICE !
Delicious food
Plenty of variety to please everybody
Great atmosphere
We will be back soon !
Love.... High attention to detail. Great food. Friendly services. Cheap as chips. New local fave I think.
Went to this newish Malaysian Food Restaurant - had their Chicken Satay
The Domestic Traveller

Nestum Prawn. Just delicious.
Spicy Prawn Skewers. This was delicious and well balanced. You definitely need to get more of this amazing delicacy into you!
The food was normal with good ingredients.
Chicken Laksa was not what I expected, the chicken was not fresh.
The other food was very good but a bit high price for the portion.
Roti bread was very good.
Always a treat coming here, and judging by the number of reviews, I'm not the only one who thinks so too! Lots of yummy dishes to try, I always want to try something different each time. Service is great and the aesthetics and mood of the restaurant is wonderful.
One of the best Malaysian restaurants I've been to in a while! Amazing wok hei and flavours that brings me back to Penang. Also special mention to the girl at the counter who was very friendly, professional and from the same part of Malaysia (Selangor) as my family!
A definite must try, especially the Laksa, Char Kuey teow and Wat tan hor! Will definitely be back.
Came here for lunch on a Saturday. Got the seafood curry laksa, char kway teow and a Milo with coffee. The food was warm, but it could have been a little hotter. By the time I reached the middle of eating the food, it was already cold. Char kway teow also needed more of the wok flavour and needed more spice. Food was reasonably priced as well.
Came here for lunch and ordered (1) Wat tan hor, (2) Har meen (prawn noodles), (3) Fried chicken rice.
Wat tan hor was close to what you can find in Malaysia with plenty of wok hei.
Har meen is good. The soup had some prawn flavour (but could be stronger :). Plenty of "kang kong" which enhances the taste of the dish.
Fried chicken rice is so so. The chicken was nice but the rice was a bit soggy. Not our taste.
Staff is friendly and provide good service. Kudo's to Vanetta?
All in all, we would recommend this place. The ambience is nice, staff are friendly, food is yummy and plenty of parking around.
Pretty good. Price was reasonable but portion was ok. Don't expect big portion like dumpling plus or China bar. The prawn soup noodles was good. Fried kway tiao was good bit abit too salty. Nasi goreng and wan tan hor were good too. Egg plant chips was Ok.
Really authentic Malaysian food, the char kuey teow has that wok hei flavour that is so unique to Malaysian food. They also add lap cheong (chinese sausages) and fried pork lar - both cruicial when it comes to CKT!
Curry Laksa has great flavour, though i do think the broth itself could be thicker! I always get the seafood laksa but i’ve tried the chicken version and enjoyed it as much!
I’ve also tried the Chicken Satay, Har Mee (very popular dish here!), Nasi Lemak with Curry Chicken, Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang, Wah Tan Hor with Seafood, Ramly Burger, Hokkien Mee and the Mongolian beef (shared dish) - which were all awesome as well!
JFC chicken was so juicy and the dipping sauce served with it is simply divine! They are boneless pieces of chicken but quite small. Sangria is topped with fruits and tasted very good but not sure if it’s very alcoholic.
Safe to say, Junior Tan is one of my go-to restaurants in the suburbs, and i have introduced it to many family members and friends!
