Review Pho'kha Tran Restaurant - Bayswater

Choc Pudding
Had a dinner here on a Monday as my usual pho place next door is closed on Mondays. Had their pho with meatballs only, small portion but it came out much smaller than expected. Very stingy on the meatballs (see pictured, hadnt eaten it although put some chili oil already). Broth has nice flavour though. Chili oil is super duper hot. One teaspoon was actually too hot. Their grilled pork on the Bun was quite nice. Our entree came really late and only after asked, I would say they probably forgot about it. The waiter said because they only have one chef, but I would say they just forgot it because we finished eating our main and it still didnt come up. Anyway, the entree of salt & pepper tofu was nice, rather subtle on the spice but I like the tofu texture, nice and soft inside. Overall I think next door has a better value than this one, but still a good pho other than portion issue. I was still hungry after finishing my pho, lucky we got entree too after but slight expensive dinner

Very disappointed, it was a very hot day and the owner refused to turn on the aircon and quoted that she then won't be able to leave door open for covid. Another table complained but she ignored the request. We ordered the pork vermicelli noodles and the pork portions were like crumbs and had been refried. Their sauce was very watery and couldn't taste much. Didn't even finish and left. Definitely won't be back.

Nice and comfortable seating for a bowl of pho, not too crowded which is great 😊 Orders prawn and pork pho & vermicelli with springroll and roasted pork, both tasted yummy! Quick service, lots of free parking next to it, lots of food selection, will revisit 😋

It's very plain inside so not much in terms of decor but the service is warm and friendly. Food was reasonable, but a bit pricey and then to find out at the register they're adding another 10% because of food costs is a bit much! This sort of thing really needs to be revealed at the time of placing an order rather than later on when you're paying the bill! So, overall, it ended up way too expensive for what it was. 😔 Also, if you need to go to the toilet you have to go around the back and down some dodgy side lane to get there! Not very safe at night for vulnerable folks, so if you're going to visit try not to have to go to the loo! 😱

worst experience ever. The place was busy as the next door was closed. Took 15 mins to place an order and the waitress was very distracted when she was taking order. We were 4 people and only 3 dish served. Asked the waitress 3 times if another pho is coming and she said it's on the way without checking. it turned out she took the wrong order with 3 dishes only. Even one of the size was served wrong but we had whatever was served. She blamed us placed the wrong order saying its not her fault without any apologies as she confirmed the order which she didn't. We were so upset at ger attitude and left the place without finishing the meal. She completely ruined the night. never ever going back.

Best Pho & bun Bo Hué broth this side of Vic

Friendly staff, awesome food, fast service and relaxing environment.

We have been eating at Pho Kha Tran for a couple of years and the food is always consistently good and the restaurant is very clean. Their Beef Pho is one of the best in the area and one of us always orders it... They also have the most amazing home made dim sims which are so good we actually buy a couple of dozen frozen to take home to stash in the freezer... Crispy noodles are also delicious... Highly recommended... 😋

Very disappointing. The male waiter made us feel that we were an inconvenience and not at all welcome. Everything seemed like a huge effort for him which made us feel uncomfortable. We did observe same behaviour with another customer waiting for take away. Food was OK. Won't be rushing back.

Quite pricey for very salty mediocre food. $15 for a grilled chicken and small portion of tomato rice. Chicken was burnt and hard and as I’m writing this I’m feeling the MSG starting to kick in and feeling drowsy. Bill was over $20 and still have to pay a surcharge of $1. Never been stung for such a high surcharge before. Won’t be returning here.

Best Vietnamese I've ever had. The price of their dishes are such good value for money. The beef pho is the best I've ever tried and BYO license makes it a great place for a quick dinner with friends before heading out.

My boyfriend and i went to go eat there yesterday for the 2nd time and it was a huge disappointment. The pho itself is not bad, however, it was the prawn rice paper rolls that really put us off. I'm not sure what it was meant to smell like, because i've had rice paper rolls elsewhere many times, and it has never smelt like that. That is, the smell of soap or detergent....From the outside i couldnt smell anything off but with 2 bites, i knew i wasn't tripping. I made my boyfriend taste it too and he too could smell that soapy, detergent smell with his bite. We kindly let the waiter know and he was in so much denial, not once did he apologise. I don't usually complain and i wouldnt say i was complaining in that moment, i just really wanted them to taste their own food, because it could've been a health hazard. Anyways, ended up paying the full price even though we only took a few bites, but was more baffled by the lack of empathy and no form of apology or customer service. I later asked my Vietnamese friend if that was normal and he suggested i shouldve taken the 2 un touched ones and taken it to the health department. Anyways, i didnt, but i should've. Please let me know if im being over dramatic haha

Food: One of my favourite places to eat a bowl of delicious bun. (This place refers to it as ‘Vermicelli’ though.) Pho is average.

Decor: Furnished rather plainly, but as a regular, I don’t pay much attention to my surroundings when I’m devouring my bun!

Letdowns: Not a fan of their spring rolls. I’d avoid them.

Who doesn’t love a good bowl of pho? Well, we were craving some pho one afternoon and decided to give this place a go because we were in the area. I’m Vietnamese and I know a good pho bowl when I see it (I sound so cocky, but hey, it’s in my Vietnamese blood) and when the bowl of pho hit the table, I knew something was up.

Firstly, where’s the meat at? Refer to my picture. There’s literally hardly any meat visible. I would say I got around 3-4 pieces floating here there like someone’s already eaten it halfway and they’ve served me with leftovers. I was quite disappointed. The broth itself wasn’t flavourful. It kinda of tastes artificial. The meat itself was still rare and I waited for it to cook which it didn’t which says a lot about the temperature of broth.

It’s such a shame and I hope they improve on their generosity and flavours!

Your everyday local pho joint. It is what it is. No nasty or happy surprises. Crispy noodle is very nice. Pho recommended. For more foodie goodness follow my ig: emptystomach

Absolutely love this place. The chicken pho is amazing, true to the Vietnamese style with chicken breast and full of flavour. The BBQ pork, chicken ribs and curry puffs are also on regular rotation for us and never disappoint.

What a delicious experience!! We ordered the fried tofu and spring rolls for entree, a lemon drink, ginger prawns with noodles and beef pho and a banana fritter each and the whole bill came to $66! The food was simply divine! The service is however where I have to mark down a little, had to ask for water twice, had to wave them down for desserts and they kept trying to take our plates away before we were finished but there was no huge problems and I will definitely return again, the prawns were to die for!

I had the bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle @ $13)
The broth was so good, not too salty, delicate, and rich in flavour.
Meat and noodles were amazing too, good texture and not over cooked.
HOWEVER, the beef was very dry and had no flavour, bit of a let down but would still come back for seconds :)
Service was 3/5 as they did get our order wrong, gave us small instead medium pho even though the server had confirmed the order, and to fix the issue they just poured the small pho into a medium bowl? With no extra noodle or meat

I have been looking for pho places in the South-eastern area for a while now and tonight I found this place and it was quite good! I ordered chicken slices and beef brisket pho and salt and pepper white bait.

The white bait was just on the warm side and could have been more tasty and crispy.

The pho was surprisingly good -- in my opinion - has the right kind of rice noodles, thin and chewy and the soup temperature was hot. This made it comparable to the Springvale and Richmond shops, taking into account the traffic was good and plenty of parking spaces. The chicken slices were good but the beef brisket was a bit tough to chew.

As usual, I ordered a three colour to finish off my pho meal. It was average at best as the red beans were overcooked.

This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne! Even when I was in Southeast Asia I was craving the food here at Pho Kha Tran! I live 30 minutes away from this restaurant but I still come here at least once a week because I love it.

Service was excellent, food came out fast and was delicious. Our table ate the spring rolls, crispy chicken bun and salt and spicy squid. No complaints, everyone leaving happy and full.

Came here for pho as next door was closed.

The restaurant is definitely cleaner and better presented than the bigger one next door.

The staff are beautiful and very helpful - we ate with two kids and was provided with highchairs, plastic bowls, plastic cups and kids spoons and scissors to help cut up their food. It is so child friendly here.

But that would be the only thing it's got an upper hand with.
The food was ok but nothing special. We had the pho and although it's passable, it is not really something that would make me come back to the restaurant for.

Not sure if their other dishes are better - although if you have the word "pho" in your name I would assume that it would be your speciality.

Also, their drinks are ridiculously expensive. $5 for a three colour drink? I'm going to faint.
Cookielessvee
Pho is quiet big in portion. Sweet broth, decent amount of meat, balls and noodles.

Crispy noodles has a generous amount of toppings. The sauce is just enough to make the noodles soft yet keep the noodles crispy.

Ambience wise, quite noisy as the staff were having a meal.
Fiona Scully
Chicken Pho was spot on and pork rice paper rolls were delicious. Not the best customer service but nothing less than what you'd expect in any similar restaurant. Pretty authentic. Definitely would return.

The restaurant is clean and wait staff friendly. We arrived early at 5pm and the place is busy with regulars. We had the XO sauce fried rice, Chinese broccoli pork and chicken special, tomato fried rice with lemon grass chicken and standard beef and beef ball pho. All were pretty good and flavoursome. A great alternative to the usual around Melbourne suburbs for Vietnamese food; will be back!

Came in quite late, around 9! We were the last customers and felt bad so we rushed and left at 9:30 even though their opening hours say till 10, they were already ready to be closed by 9:20... Acceptable pho for not in Springvale or Richmond, salt and pepper tofu is good for what it is, and prices are not bad. Biggest bowl of pho is $14. Staff was friendly and did not try to rush us or anything, will come here for pho/viet cravings if not wanting to travel 'pho' sure!

Definitely a no frills restaurant but often they make the best kind of food! I'd never sat down to a vietnamese meal before and I was quite looking forward to it. I'd asked my foodie friends what dishes are distinctly vietnamese so I could truly be tasting vietnamese food. I was recommended rice paper rolls and pho.
We ordered the shredded pork and pork and prawn rolls and they were delicious topped off with the ultra tasty hoi sin sauce. They came out very quick after ordering. I also ordered the sliced beef pho. While the beef was tender and tasty, I'm not sure I would order it again. I like a good balance of meat and veggies and pho didn't really offer that. But nevertheless I'm glad I tried it. I think next time I'll try broken rice.
The staff were pleasant and efficient and I loved the the thermos with tea on every table. A very easy going eatery, next time a BYOW is a must
Yum!
Visited for lunch with a friend. Had the Pho and loved it. Felt nostalgic about traveling in South East Asia again - especially with the soda lemon to drink! The service was excellent and I will return for sure. Yum

Was able to find the restaurant easily and was lucky enough to find a parking spot right in front! My friend and I were the only customers at the time (we went past lunch time and before dinner time - around 4pm). The place is decent sized and kept clean. We ordered the chicken with chilli and lemon grass with rice and the beef with chilli and lemon grass. We requested it to be extra spicy. Although it wasn't as spicy as we would have liked it to be, the chilli oil was provided to add to our taste. The food wasn't as hot (temperature wise) as I would have liked it to be. However, it was still very tasty! Prices were reasonable too! Especially when you get free green tea and a kopiko toffee at the end! The place seemed to get buiser as we were leaving at around 5pm.

Have been here several times and must say it is really good Vietnamese! Service here was a little average, we were seated very quickly but took quite a while for someone to come and take our order. The spring rolls were great, so was the broccoli in oyster sauce. Friend had the sliced chicken pho and said that was delicious. Always busy no matter what night which is a good sign!
Lamingtons
Not as good as pho huong viet with the big carpark the pho sliced beef noodle didnt have much flavor and aromatic from the broth and herbs.

Ill have come back and try a different dish.
Tania
Service was ok, waitress was very friendly but we waited a while before we were attended to and they forgot our drink until we asked for it.
Ordered Pho and Bun Bo Hue which was very nice but BBH not as authentic, missing a couple of ingredients including the pork blood.
Best Pho in the eastern suburbs, now i dont have to drive from Ferntree gully to Victoria st when im craving a decent Pho. Great flavour and great price
Anjrue
Great pho always, I dine here weekly and enjoy the roast pork with seasoned vegetables. Not a bad thing to say about the pho, best I've ever had and I've traveled South East Asia, though the roast pork and veg lacks meat but is made up with flavour and freshness. Clean establishment, Friendly staff and well priced depending on the dish, naturally.

There's no need to go to Richmond or Springvale for a great Pho noodle soup in Bayswater now. It's Friday, where's lunch in the area? Looks can be deceiving; from the outside I thought it was a small operation, but once I went inside I can now tell you that they are a serious contender for the best Pho on that side of town if not Melbourne. Interesting quote on the menu....there's a lot on offer, but I was after a quick Pho for lunch, I'm so very glad I did order just that with a dessert drink. After one sip of the soup (no additional stuff like lemon, pepper, etc.), I'm convinced that I do NOT need to go to Richmond or Springvale when these guys can dish up these light & tasty Pho's on this side of town. All that is for $10 for a medium bowl, which is plenty for lunch or dinner. The three colours drink is good too, not too sweet, just right. Fast and pleasant service by the ladies there. Nothing fancy but it's clean and neat. One of the better ones, all for $15 including $1 tip, how can you go wrong?

Loved it!! Popped in with a few friends, was seated instantly and food came within 10mins of ordering it was great! Ordered the vegetarian fried rice and salt and pepper tofu. I loved the tofu!! Served on a bed of fried vermicelli with onion, the tofu had the perfect blend of salty pepperness!! Really good fried rice and the menu looked great! Will definitely be back and highly recommended!

Disgusting food & terrible service

We ordered some takeaway for dinner tonight, and when my hubby brought home my grilled pork it was terrible in every aspects- it was off meat with rock hard texture, not to mention the portion- can you imagine they only give you less than 4 tiny pieces and they charged us $11 for this. (Wish I took a photo of this meal but the owner threw in the bin in front of us) When I opened the box I realised something was wrong and I had taste- terrible I need to return it.

Moment I explained to the lady owner I'd like a refund, she yelled at me : oh I cannot give you a refund! and accusing my hubby for making the wrong order(because my hubby was super nice and said this was not what we ordered). She kept yelling so I asked her if I can have a partial refund $8(which I think is very reasonable to cover her cost of making the food) she went to the back and called her husband out. The man was even more aggressive than his wife, he yelled at us regardless there were still other customers in the shop. After I explained to him everything again he refused to give us the refund and eventually he threw me $8 and swore at us + do not come back again. How great- they still took $3 like they desperate for money!

I mean WTH? Who would want to go through all the hassle to drive back to return the food unless it's really terrible? All I did was trying to keep everything on good terms and get my money back for some terrible food. I explained to him nicely that we just ate here last week and we not here to cause any troubles. Couldn't believe he still yelled at us + do not come back again. If they don't care about retaining regular customers why would I care? Don't worry, we will never come back again for some shitty off food and no manner owners. Went to the bigger pho shop next door and the dinner was beautiful.

If there is a rating of 0 or negative I'd definitely give to this place. I'm never harsh on giving ratings but this shop truly deserves it. Congrats you just made the WORST FOOD & SERVICE restaurant of the year!

Just thought of dropping by to this restaurant to try their noodle soup as I wanted to discover a new place to satisfy my urge for rice noodles. I am a big fan of springvale's pho restaurants but since I moved in to bayswater, I really have to find a place nearby. The beef pho is great as well as the dimsim but the only thing that dissappointed me is the service. The waiter who served me is really really rude! He made a mistake in taking my order instead of 1 serve of pho, he gave me 2 serves which I explained to him that I can't take the other one as I can't eat them all by myself. He then started telling me that I ordered 2 and in response I told him to grab back the menu as I knew what I was ordering that I even pointed it out from the menu. Even when he saw it clearly what I pointed out in the menu, he still tried to escape his mistake by arguing with me that I ordered 2 different phos. I feel so disgusted as the other customers were looking at me and the waiter with a loud voice arguing with his customer! He is a gangster and a very big liar! To the waiter, you know what you did and you know that you are a big liar! Have shame on yourself mate, you don't belong to this industry. You are disgusting.

If you want really expensive, under cooked and over cooked food that is cold, then this is the place to go
Must say the praw crackers was the best part
Next door is way much better overall, but they don't do takeaway
Step up your game!!!
Facebook User
Very satisfied with service and good rice was not oily and the pho was well made and full of flavor unlike some where they add water to save. Food came out quickly and was regular attended to a little bit pricey on some meals ranging from and avrage of $11 to $20 a meal

If I'm at Bayswater around lunch time this is where I will first choose to eat in. I love pho and around this area there are three Vietnamese restaurants and this is my pick of the best tasting pho but, for our recent lunch there my husband ordered the crispy chicken with red rice and it was a 'meh' for him. He said it was a tad heavy on the 'honey' side although we both enjoyed polishing off our young sons' shared salty fish fried rice when they couldn't finish it (one is 3years old who ate 3 small bowls worth and the other is 19 months).
Sjhawk9
This is an Awesome pho and don't forget to have the lemon grass chilli chicken and the salt and pepper tofu! Real winner! Ambience of course could be better and can be a bit noisy. But can not fault the food for the price!
J Man PuckPux
Came there at 9:30 when closing times stated 10pm. Resturaunt forced us to buy takeaway. Pathetic service highly do not recomend unless you want awful and disgusting service.
Susie
Were asked to leave because we didn't order enough. Have dined here before when it has been empty and they were happy to serve us but last night we were asked to leave because we didn't order enough. We told by the owner we were stopping them from getting a bigger order. I couldn't believe it, we had two small children and we were made to leave. Completely rude and I would never expect this at any restaurant, we are not big eaters and we were ordering an entre, main and 4 deserts and that was not enough. They are greedy. There is 2 other Vietnamese restaurants in Bayswater all serving the same food/prices so we will go elsewhere.
Rocky2006
Best PHO in town. Finding good PHO anywhere east of box hill is difficult but finally I have found it. The small size was big enough but they had a medium and large option as well. Service was great and prompt, so was the waiting time for the food. VERY good value for money. Went there nearly at closing time but the kitchen was still open. Unlike that of another Vietnamese restaurant that CLAIMS its open to 10pm just down the road. Would recommend this place to family and friends and will be back very soon.
Joss Jensen
Food is tasty but very limited, unimaginative vegetarian options. Very loud.

Beef soup please. Amazing food! My partner and I had an enjoyable night. My favourite was the beef soup and, chicken and pork spring rolls. Service could improve, however I shall return for the food!

Best price, great service and amazing Food!!!. People love to complain and really compliment!! This place is great, always great service, food and amazingly cheap. Best Viet around!!!

I went to Pho Kha Tran for the first time a few nights ago. It was quite nice but I've certainly had nicer Vietnamese food. Positives are great value for money & big serves. Negatives - could be more flavoursome & service was a bit haphazard.

Visited this place last night by some friends recommendations. The food was really nice. I especially love the Cantonese steak. Will visit again

Worst service. Terrible service. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yum. Really nice. I was there for lunch and had the chicken pho. The portion was huge and was still full by dinner time.
I will definitely be back to try more of the menu.
Anthony
I'm lovin it. Next to 888 in Box Hill, its the best pho I've tasted. Friendly staff and quick service. Prices are on par with most 'like' restaurants
Johhny
Nice service and decent price. I like this place. We come here this Saturday and had some nice soft shell crab and the banquet menu for each people. The food has been amazing, The service is friendly and the price was cheap.
Will come back again
J
Never ever tried Vietnamese pho out in the outer suburbs before but this was a nice surprise! The special beef combination pho was a tasty clear broth. The combination flat rice noodles were yumtastic with the correct 'smoky ' flavour that accompanies wok cooking but not burnt. The vermicelli rice noodles were a disappointment though as the noodles were not vermicelli and were clumped together. Service was friendly but the manager did not really seem to know much about his dishes when we questioned a couple of them.
Huy Minh
Does not like it!. The food and services were terrible! The staffs are not friendly and so rude, they dont even understand english, have to wait for half an hour to get someone to take the order and another 30 mins to get the food. This place is terrible!
Artie Colwell
The food was nice but the service was terrible. They lost our order and then gave our meals to other tables. I'd suggest avoiding this restaurant if it's very busy.
Natalie
Beyond terrible! After waiting for 30 mins to be seated because they put pushier people first, it took 20 mins to find someone to take our order. Then they brought us dipping sauce in a very dirty dish with crusty sauce caked around it and were angry and rude when we asked about it. We had been looking forward to a nice pho lumch and will stick to their neighbors in the future!!!
Rwd86
Regular Customer. I eat here at least once a week and have never been disappointed. The service and prices are fantastic. My personal favorites are the spring rolls, pho and vermicelli, all of which are amazing! Highly recommended to anyone who likes Vietnamese.
Georgia Kate
Really great service everyone was very polite and helpful. Food was great, cheap and came out strait away. Will definitely be coming back !
Joh Hammock
Affordable and much better than the competition close by. The food is absolutely amazing, and took the recommendation of the crispy chicken. Absolutely beautiful.
Shaz
The rice paper rolls were very good and something about the texture of the rice paper (not your usual) made it very enjoyable overall. It seemed very fresh & soft. I had the grilled chicken with vermicelli and loved the fact that the chicken was very well seasoned & tasty. One of the best I've had by far...
Desiree Lee
Eat here quite often, love the grilled pork with springrolls on vermicelli. Recently tried the grilled pork on rice (broken rice) which was also very nice. The sliced beef noodle soup (pho) is also a favourite. Value for money.
Tash Loves Food
Really liked this place! We ordered the spring rolls, chicken pho soup and the beef and broccoli in oyster sauce. Everything was extremely fresh and one of the best pho soups I've had. We usually go next door but it was shut on a Monday so thought we'd give this place a go!! Will be coming here from now on. Loved it!!

The best Vietnamese food in town. It's been about 2 years since the first time I was here and keep coming back almost every weekend. Nice food, friendly staff and very reasonable price. They've just served some new dishes such as XO Fried Rice, Spicy Beef Soup which always blow me away when I have it. Highly recommend for Vietnamese food lovers.
Linnyretro
Our children's favorite restaurant!. We love this place and go there every week. Vietnamese grilled pork and rice and crispy chicken with red rice is a favourite for our twin 3 year olds. They eat it without fail and my husband and I get to enjoy our beef noodle soup in relative peace, so the whole family is well fed and happy! The owners are lovely people and our little girls like a lot of the staff there and someone always has a moment to smile and indulge the little ones. Once a waitress even found a moment to make paper cranes out of napkins for our girls, totally making their day! The food tastes authentically yummy and the prices are low. As with all popular restaurants it can get hectic on busy days so as a family we do try to go there during non peak days but we love it so much, we just end up going anyway...
J
We ate here or lunch today. I had the bun (race vermicelli) a dish I love. It was good but not amazing, the noodles were a little over cooked.
Service was pleasant and quick, meals were quick although didnt arrive all at the same time.
Overall pretty good and cheap. Would be interesting to compare to the others in the area though.
Cinnamoroll
Great food, authentic Asian, fast service, friendly staff & reasonably priced. One of our fav & we go there almost every week!
Mel
Excellent restaurant!. Staff are incredibly friendly, and the food is absolutely fantastic. Ask Staff what the best dishes of the day are, I definitely recommend the spicy tofu starter, and the beef pho is delicious.

This place feels like your in the back of someone's house. Which I love. The food is cheap and good for what you pay. Happy place good staff, if you have been to Vietnam you will understand this restaurant.

Great Soup. Had the dumpling and egg noodle soup with some fresh chilli this evening. It was great. I had not been here for awhile but had been here many times since it opened and never had a bad meal. The service is good, the staff change/rotate and are usually friendly. It is good value and is reminiscent of the Vietnamese restaurants in Victoria Street, Richmond, but alot closer to home. The takeaway is also great.
Ben Marsh
Horrid vietnamese. Terrible serivce, couldnt understand basic, clear ENGLISH. waiting 45 minutes for a piece of chicken loaf and a small bed of coleslaw. had different waiters/waitresses telling us we couldn't get certain items then another would tell us we could. Then come time for the bill they say they give us 10% discount for it and still charge you full price.

Everyone is better to go a couple door up to Pho Huong Viet which is much better and actually give a dam about costumer service. plus you probably get your meal and eat before the waiters and Pho Kan Tran understand what your trying to order!!
Maatje
Dinner was amazing - large portions for reasonable prizes - will definitely visit them again!

Just got back from here and I can't wait to go again. The food was fresh, hot and wonderful. Loved it

Really Liked this place. Went for the first time about 2 weeks ago and loved it so much we went back again a week later. And I cant wait to do it again.

Small low key restaurant nothing flash decor wise but your here for the food and it was fantastic.
We had the spicy salt and pepper squid and it was so tasty and really tender and a big dish (it should be a main but we ordered it to share as an entree), we also had the spicy chicken ribs again really tasty. Spring rolls were ok as was the satay skewers but you cant love everything.
The combinatin rice noodles had a beautiful flavour and lots of sauce so you almost needed a rice dish to soak it up with. The sizzling cantonese steak was tender and full of flavour.

We will be back to try some of the other offerings very soon.

Absolute Chaos. I called in, on reputation, to get a takeaway order of Vietnamese beef salad and rice on the Saturday night after Christmas. The restaurant was two thirds full and there was a queue for takeaway - the staff (of which there were at least three on the floor) were clearly stressed. I waited 15 minutes to order, then another 15 to get my food (not so bad - others had clearly been waiting much longer). While I was waiting for my order people from two different tables came up to say they had been 'forgotten'. No seating was offered to takeaway customers, resulting in us blocking staff carrying plates of food from the kitchen to the restaurant. The Eftpos was down resulting in one very disgruntled takeaway customer complaining he wasn't informed of this on the phone, and not having enough cash. When I asked to use the loo I was directed outside to a toilet with no working light (completely dark with the door shut). As a female, I would be uncomfortable having to walk down the road and behind the building after dark if I was dining in.
To top it all off, when I got home I discovered my 'beef' salad was, in fact, chicken, and missing many of the elements I am used to in this salad, i.e. no cucumber, bean sprouts or Vietnamese mint. It was fairly chunkily cut cabbage and not a great deal else, other than the boiled chicken - very disappointing at $15. Based on what I had heard about this place, I really thought the food was going to make up for their other failings. If they didn't have the ingredients for what I'd ordered, they should have told me - I would have ordered something else. I love Vietnamese food - but I won't be back to this place.

Always coming back for more.. My family and I always come here, we probably come here once a week because the food is affordable and delicious, the staff are great and we love the atmosphere. My favourite to order off the menu would have to be the Pho beef and beef balls.

After walking over from pho huong this place is really good. The price is excellent and food is even better, I recommend the chicken ribs with tomato rice is delicious!!! Spring rolls are a sure bet and all this goes down well with a vietnamese white had coffee. Will be coming here from now on instead of next door!

Cheap, cheerful, love it! Always enjoy the Pho here. No frills, fast service. Can get very busy and loud, but that's part of what I like about this place. My favourite is the Sliced Chicken Pho. Medium size is huge and definitely more than enough.

Delicious food plus friendly, fast service!. My family had dinner here on a Saturday night, after my parents had a birthday dinner a few nights before and enjoyed the food. We loved everything, the chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, beef lemongrass & chilli, lemon chicken, fish dishes, soups etc. food was very cheap and delicious! Will definitely be returning!

Bang for your buck!. This place does great pho - even do one with vegies but the soup still tastes a little meaty :S
The servings are massive. A 'Large' is like a soup bowl for 10. Medium is plenty enough for most big eaters.
Only comment was my dad's tripe was pretty tough and he couldn't get his teeth through it. But the normal beef and chicken were fine in the rest.
Also liked salt and pepper tofu :)

The Best Salt N Pepper squid - Highly recommend. Being a local to Bayswater I was very reluctant to try any new restaurants let alone a Vietnamese As we usually travel to Box Hill or the City for our Vietnamese fix.

However, I now love this place and eat there at least once a week. The Salt N Pepper squid is one of the best dishes I have had at any Viet restaurant. So is their Pork ( Bun Bo) or Vermicelli spring roll & Grill pork. I also crave the Chinese Broccoli & Oyster sauce. The Beef Pho is also one of the best I have had in Melbourne.

During the day the staff have always been lovely and friendly and sometimes the Chef has come out to make sure I am happy with my order. I have experience once on a Saturday night a gruff waitress but that was more to do with her personality rather than the restaurant.

I have also had take away once and like most take away it wasn't as great as eating in the restaurant. No fault the chef its just a simple fact that its rarely as good as eating in. Also you miss the whole atmosphere of eating in.

If you are like me and usually drive to Box Hill then give this restaurant a go. Eat in rather than take away. Also don't expect white table clothes and 5 star service. Its more like your traditional Viet Cafe/street food Cafe (with a hint of Chinese). Great service, excellent food at a great price. Which I would rather any day . Don't forget to try the Viet Coffee for a caffeine treat.

The Best Pho In Melbourne. This place has absolutely the best Pho in all of Melbourne I kid you not,
Sure the staff are not what you expect from a 5 star restaurant but they try and they have no intention of being rude maybe sometimes just language barriers,
But a alot of their other dishes are really good too, The Pho next door doesn't stand a chance people don't realise but this is the chef that use to work their until new management took over which i am sure a lot of people didn't even realise it changed.....

So if you want a quick convenient excellent value and awesome Pho ! no where else and I am vietnamese

Pleasant experience and awesome food!. I come here to dine in all the time. Usually with my family and sometimes we have group bookings aswell, which is no problem, the table is always ready for us when we arrive, unlike some places when we have to wait outside in the cold. I always have a pleasant and friendly experience from the staff and OMG! their food is AWESOME! and quite cheap!

You guys have to definitely try the salt and pepper squid! I can eat tonnes of that stuff! and for those who like tofu, try the salt and pepper tofu! its so soft and crispy at the same time it's to die for!

Nice food but not good service. Went there last Saturday night and the food was nice. The calamari was absolutely yummy. However, i was disappointed with the service. The waitress was really rude. She just jgnored me when i asked for the ingredients in the food. Will be back there again for another try. Hopefully, the service will be better.

Food was cold and Waitress was NASTY. My family has just moved to the area from Queensland and have been sampling the restaurants and small businesses. This was the first that we didnt enjoy. The waiteress was extremely rude and almost appeared aggressive when speaking to customers. The chairs and tables are so squiched in that I tripped over a leg of a table while trying to make it to the counter to pay and when we did finally recieve our food it was below average.. It would have probably been nice if it wasnt cold but it tasted as if it was leftovers we'd pulled out of the fridge and we were dissapointed that with this variety of take-away could not be eaten immediately because the chicken/pork and such was in paper bags :/ so we had to return home and use plates and bowls to mix the suaces in ourselves.. WHATS the point? thats why we wanted take-away..

Popped in for a cheap and cheerful bite to eat. A bit disappointing to find no veggie spring rolls on offer. I sampled the 'Beef and Chicken Pho'. Nice quick service, fresh and flavorsome soup. A nice addition to the local choice of restaurants on offer.

AWESOME FOOD. This restaurant is a regular for me and my family. we make sure to go twice a month. the food is wonderful and doesnt leave you feeling over bloated. the staff are very friendly although could use some work, but over all, best price for money and a wonderful and enjoyable atmosphere.

Pho Bo. This place has some good Pho on offer but in my opinion
Pho Huong Viet just across the side street has some of the best Pho Melbourne has to offer.
