Review Ginger Fox - Beaumaris

Mel Russell
I have been ordering the ‘Reuben Sandwich’ for many years now as well as lunching with friends on many other additional occasions. Disappointed to see the recent purchase of a ‘Reuben Toasted Sandwich’, which previously consisted of a generous amount of ‘Pulled shredded Corn beef & Cabbage’. No longer do customers get the ‘melt in the mouth’ shredded corn beef but instead, a slither of sliced, slightly dry in comparison Corned beef. Not generous enough I feel for $15.00. The Cabbage & Melted Cheese part is perfect, but the thin sliced corn beef is now a disappointment. Please go back to the way you previously made them, using the recent ‘Cabbage & Cheese’ scrumptious filling but with the ‘Shredded Pulled moist Corned Beef’. No pickle on top anymore as well! What a shame the chef changed the meal.

I was lucky to find this nice cafe. Good atmosphere, you are sure to spend good time here.

Came here for a quick breakfast and couldn't be happier. The service was quick and friendly, the eggs Benedict with gin smoked salmon was one of the best I've had, and the noodle salad was packed with flavour. Will definitely return

Great little cafe in beaumaris, had the mushroom medley and it was amazing, great flavour and would definitely go back for it again. Coffee was on point and can't fault a thing there, their service was great!

So today’s coffee experience brings me to the ‘GINGER FOX’ in Beaumaris. The owner TRENT is a fellow dog lover and not only does he go the extra mile to welcome you to his business he always has extra dog beds and bowls at the ready, not to mention him always taking the time to come out to make our furry friends welcome and comfortable! I’ll be sharing a coffee shop a day as we support our local businesses through the lockdown. If you’re in the area call in and say hi to Trent and pick up one of his awesome coffee brews! ☕️☕️ #gavinaction

Fantastic amazing cafe! My bacon was cooked to perfection (crispy), eggs were perfect, toast was perfect, coffee was perfect. Staff were friendly & attentive. I couldn’t have asked for a better breakfast. I visited today and I’ll definitely be back.

Very nice place to sit in the afternoon sun and enjoy a great cup of coffee and a very nice toasted sandwich. The service was very good and the coffee delivered in next to no time despite quite a few customers on the premises. The toasted sandwich arrived in good time and wad accompanied by some very nice fries. Highly recommended.

Asked for an extra hot cappuccino, 20 minutes later I was delivered an almost cold one! All 4 of us on the table complaining of cold coffee. Staff also couldn’t answer anything about the dishes. I don’t ever review but this was definitely called for.

Pretty darn good coffee and breakfast. They use a lot of oil on the breads so makes it veeeeeeeeery heavy. Had the scrambled egg on sour dough with hash brown and bacon. Overall I was quite satisfied but maaaan I needed a nanny nap afterwards!!!

Been here a few times now. Always lovely to have a choice of inside or out. Located right on the corner in the Concourse, the staff are lovely and very helpful.
Menu is good with lots of choices and portion sizes are good.
Good parking around the area but note the time limits, although there is a 3 hour parking section.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly.

A fantastic addition to the Beaumaris Concourse! As a local, I find Ginger Fox Cafe brings in a taste of fine dining, yet humble food in the one sitting! Refined, clean flavours which are elevated to a level of pure sophistication! The owners are always in serving front of house and in the kitchen for a smooth sailing service! Presentation is extremely on point here!

Great coffee, good food. Enjoy the avo on toast. Lots of seating inside and outside. Just need to improve on the wait time for coffee and food.

It’s always amazing here. The food, coffee, service and atmosphere are fantastic. It’s always wonderfull. My favourite is the fritters but the bacon is out of this world good !!!!

I would say a solid 'fine'. Service 'fine', coffee 'fine' (not 'great'), food; eggs cooked well, really nice Hollandaise sauce which my partner asked for on the side and I stole from, presentation 'fine', ambiance 'fine'. Rushing back? No. Make a special trip to come here? No. In the concourse already and felt lunch brunch, sure.

Absolutely love this place! Great little spot for a Saturday/Sunday brunch and wonderful service from friendly staff. Thanks for the good times and coffee :)

This place is absolutely amazing!!!! The staff are always so friendly and up for a chat. I work at another shop a few ones down from the cafe and I have got myself into a habit of always getting an iced coffee to take away with me to work. the iced coffee is always amazing without fail and is prepared in a flash. the food is always cooked to perfected, especially the eggs benny, which is my personal favourite. i love it here and would highly recommend to others!!

I was very impressed with this cafe, food was amazing- I had the pumpkin fritters which were divine (I’ll definitely be returning for more)!! Service was also great, the staff were friendly and from what I saw, greeted everyone with a smile. I was very impressed with the overall ambient of the cafe, very accommodating and great place to also bring dogs and kids!!!!

Kind of disappointing, i loved the decor but the food wasn't the best i was expecting it to taste really good. I can't exactly remembered what i ordered but i probably won't go back there any time soon

This is fine. But loud. Oh, my ears, why so very loud? My favourite part is the array of fake plants. Sensible. I had nothing to complain about with the food.

I tried this cafe for the first time a couple of weeks ago and although the menu looked enticing I was disappointed with the club sandwich and also the coffee.
The sandwich had very little flavour, the avocado wasn't ripe and the bacon was full of thick fat, turned me right off the sandwich!
My latte tasted burnt and the presentation gave me the impression that the barista was still in training! The milk was bubbly and there was a very thin head of foam. Not what you expect to find in Melbourne cafes these days. I watched other coffees come out and they all looked very average.

I decided to give this cafe another try hoping that perhaps it was just a once off and there were other things on the menu that I wanted to try.
Unfortunately I was even more disappointed than my first visit!!!
I had the avo smash, and just like the club sandwich it had little to no flavour at all. The avovado looked pale, the toast had a stale taste to it and it was just bland and unenjoyable. In fact I would have to say that it was the worst avo smash I have had, and for $18 it was pretty damn poor. Ripped off big time.
Get some ripe avocados guys and perhaps train your chef to taste test the dishes before sending them out!

I gave the coffee another go but still extremely average. Burnt again and terrible presentation, just yuk! Undrinkable.
I think the barista should be having some further training as a matter of urgency!
When he brought me the coffee I asked him if it was soy (as he made no mention of it) to which he replied "ummmm it should be!" So is that a YES or a NO?????? How unprofessional is that?
Firstly, you should know what you made a few seconds ago and secondly and more importantly, people do have dairy allergies and do require a more confident amswer to that question! Donkey.
All in all not a great experience at this cafe and I certainly won't be returning for a third try. I was feeling generous when I rated this 2 out of 5.

I have been to this cafe a few times now and have to say they have the most delicious cakes. The pistachio and raspberry cake was so moist and the icing was incredible. Also next visit had the double red velvet cake and my hubby had the strawberry and white chocolate cake. Both were amazing! They have a great range of different and small cakes, biscuits and slices. The French onion soup with sourdough bread which my brother had was super tasty and smelt devine. Great coffee, smoothies and powdered chai. Johnny and the staff always friendly and up for a chat. Looking forward to deciding what cake I will try next time.

Had brekkie with friends on sat morning - smashed avo with a side of free range bacon. I think the avo had mint and pomegranate seeds in it which was really tasty
Great food and great service in a relaxed friendly environment. Coffee is as good as you'll get anywhere else on Melbourne. Family and dog friendly

This is the review I didn't want to write.

First, let me say that my family and I tried really hard to like this place. It's predecessor, Malt, was way too tired. Everything about it, food and beverage wise, was terrible. We were so glad when we realised that there was a new cafe being opened in its place.

Mags and Trent you need to read these reviews and take them seriously. On a positive note the food is good (not amazing, but OK) however the service is absolutely terrible! 40 minutes for lunch is NOT ok. Your wait staff playing with dogs whilst serving is also NOT ok. You need to train your staff better and communicate with your customers. If there is something wrong in the kitchen or if an order wasn't put through, tell them. Don't just pretend that everything is OK in the hope that the customer won't notice. It's both embarrassing (for you) and insulting to the customer.

The sad reality is that there is little competition in the Concourse so until someone comes along and does it better, things won't change. But if I can give you a little bit of advice it's this. Good customer service goes a long way. When the new kid on the Concourse arrives (and it will happen) the only thing you'll have to rely on (other than a complete rebrand and refit) is customer loyalty. Without it, you're just another hospitality business that's easily disposable until the next best thing comes along. Beaumaris is changing (see BEAU Kitchen and Cellar, for example) so if you want your customers to keep coming back you need to get your business in order. Teenagers as waitstaff is fine, but you need to train them. Putting an apron on them and arming them with a notepad and pen isn't good enough.

As for the food, like I said, it's OK but there is definitely room for improvement.

Anyway, the reason this review has taken so long is because I wanted to be sure. After our last experience, we have decided we won't be coming back. We given this place so many chances to get it right and after spending so much $$$ on food and coffees over the last few years we've had enough. After all, theres more options in Beaumaris now than when you first opened a couple of years ago. See what I mean?

Wow-come here & get a massive free dose of bad attitude with every order.

Never ordering here again as they are so dam rude.

I heard they had gone downhill since "Malt" days and from my own experience I concur 100%.

Staff are stressed and by the lifetime it takes for them to make a take away coffee it leaves you wishing you had never bothered. Unfortunately all the staff act the same with an abundance of rolling eyes and deep sighs of "can't be bothered" going on.

There are plenty of other places-go there.

The space is lovely but food is not great. We had the fritters which looked cooked on the outside but were mushy on the inside. Wouldn't be rushing back but seemed like a nice spot for coffee outside on a sunny day.

Not a big fan of fancy names and some expensive bayside cafés but this unfortunately turned out to be so. 3 of us had lunch just over 2 months ago. We ordered the home made nocchi pasta smashed avo with eggs on toast and the lamb burger (a special) sure was. Firstly the pasta was extremely tasty and so soft it would just melt in your month. Loved it totally. The mixed berry smoothie was not bad. Eggs n avo okay. Nothing to boast about. However it was the lamb burger that put us all off. I have never eaten a worse burger than this one. Over powering with way too much tatziki and no flavor in the lamb patty; it was bland and boring and the worst $21 spent. I would not recommend anyone either to dare to try such specials. We also ordered 2 coffees after food which never came out almost 30 mins after we finished our meals. Decided to cancel and fix up but appears the manager/owner could not care or was unaware we ordered the lattes. Would most likely not go back again. Service was ordinary.

Wasn't as good as what I expected, still really nice for a coffee

Visited ginger fox for breakfast on a Sunday morning for the second time . Absolutely love this place. The coffee is fantastic. Could not fault the coffee. The service was great. . I have had the bircher and the smashed avo and they are both amazing. The cafe has lots to choose from and everything they serve is so yummy and fresh. Definitely worth a visit and I will absolutely be back.

Have been here twice and cannot fault the meals. The zucchini fritters are absolutely delicious and the avocado and beetroot toast with poached eggs is also a hit. The pumpkin bruschetta is so so so delicious! Portions are very generous and enough to share a meal between 2 and still satisfied.

I used to work in this building as a chef before in was ginger fox. Since its been renovated and updated, it's now a nice, bright, comfortable cafe. I came to check this place out for breakfast by myself. I had the pumpkin bruschetta, which was very different and delicious. It's refreshing having something "new" from a cafe menu. It's the creative menus of Cafes these days that make them unique. This is one of them. Yummy Costa Rican coffee too

Had a great coffee and great breakfast here on a Sunday. Nice to see some original items on the menu. The lunch looks good too!
Lovely attentive staff.

Can't understand why this place is rated so low. Massively underrated. The food was amazing!! Very well presented and tasted delicious. Definitely worth a visit

Finally someone is stepping up the Concourse standard in Beaumaris! Ginger Fox are going above and beyond what residents are used to with their bright, energetic menu and charismatic staff. Each time Ive stopped by (numerous times for coffee & for breakfast) I just feel really pampered and refreshed. Their bircher muesli is so delicious and Ive heard Im not the only one who is willing to travel for it. Im also really impressed with what they have done with the space since they have renovated. Its just a gorgeous location and Im looking forward to trying their new espresso martinis next time I stop by!

Nice open space, decorated in a minimalist style but still has a warm feel too. we sat near the window and although not the greatest of views was nice as it was big and let lots of natural light it. Food was tasty and I loved their tea brand.

Pretty happy with this setup. It's a lot better than the previous establishment that was here. Quite a big space with plenty of seating inside and out and the decor is impressive. My cappuccino was just how i like it - smooth, hot and creamy. The tables around me had some good looking food come to them so i will get back to sample it soon.
Deb The Diner
Great, kid friendly cafe. The coffee was 10/10. Really smooth and enjoyable. I had a delicious, colourful looking smashed avo with feta, beetroot hummous & topped off with some pomegranate and micro herbs. Really tasty. Staff were really friendly and service was quick. Highly recommend.

Nice place, refreshing from the previous business Malt which became pretentious with average food. For me I get my coffee with an extra shot and at this cafe its needed in my opinion; it is quite a mild roast. The smashed avo option is very very generous and reliable so that's great.

Came here not long after it opened, decor was much nicer than previously. Hubby had the poached eggs on sourdough, pretty standard, you can't do much wrong with that dish. I had a chai latte which was absolutely terrible, I could not drink it- stay away from the chai latte. Service wasn't too bad but not too good either. Perhaps they were short staffed that day but we could see people sitting down outside who weren't acknowledged for at least 5-10 minutes, they just kept looking in trying to get someone's attention. Won't be rushing back here to quickly.

Came down for a late lunch, ordered the Pumpkin Bruschetta with a poached egg and it was delicious. The dish had so much much flavour I would highly recommend it! I've been in for coffee before and it was great as always, ask for Will or Buddy on the machine the pair have worked together for years and are well known in Bayside and always happy! By all accounts there is new ownership and the pair have done a phenomenal job revamping the cafe, I look forward to eating my way through their entire delicious menu!
