Review Max Brenner Chocolate Bar - Belconnen

Reasonable, but looking a bit tired. The cakes were pricey and didn't hit the spot flavour wise for me. I had a choc hazelnut one, it seemed to be a lot of cream and gelatin and the chocolate did not taste that good. The tea + cake deal is still a reasonable deal @ $15. The long opening hours means it's a convenient place for a catch up.

Tried many variety of desserts and drinks many times and overall it’s a great place with amazing ambience. The service sometimes is very friendly and sometimes the staff looks tired and agitated. Overall loved this Max Brenner!

My go-to place almost every weekend in winter. Can"t go wrong with the classic hot choc. Lots of dessert options. May have long wait for the order to come in rush hour.

The food was pretty average, considering their high prices. Their fondue was definitely overpriced for what it is, tastes like melted Cadbury chocolate with dry banana bread, packet marshmallows and strawberries that weren’t fresh. Could definitely make your own at home for a fraction of the price with fresher food. However their new renovated shop looks quite nice, and seemed to be clean when we went in, compared to their older store before renovation and although service could’ve been much faster for what the food was, and the fact there was hardly any other customers in the store, the employees seemed to be friendly.

The quality of the place has significantly dropped, but prices are still high. The dishes were dirty, from the cups of water to the plates the food came on. The staff seemed annoyed that we wanted clean dishes. The fruit with the fondue wasn’t ripe, bananas are meant to be soft. The $10 shake was just ice, milk and some chocolate syrup. Would’ve preferred milo to be honest. Very sad that once a fine restaurant has become so poor quality.

Since this store reopened with different staff, the quality has dropped significantly. I have tried 3 times since they reopened to get a decent hot chocolate (like they used to have) but it is not to be. The hot chocolates are now too cold (even when I ask for extra hot) and so weak that you can't taste the chocolate. It's not worth it anymore, the prices are the highest they have ever been yet they are using less chocolate in their drinks. Do yourself a favour and grab a better quality hot chocolate from one of the many nearby cafes. *Edit* - I tried a hot chocolate from Max Brenner in Sydney and they are still the same as they always were. It's just this canberra store that's getting it wrong.

Not as great an experience as I had been looking forward to. Cups provided for the jug of water were not clean. Cutlery was provided but only for four. There were seven of us. Two of the tea light candles to heat the chocolate went out less than five minutes into "the experience," and I had to relight them. The initial contact at the counter was a very young inexperienced lad, who was very hard to understand. We needed another server to take our order. All in all, a very much overpriced and disappointing way to spend some time.

I had hot chocolate and it was not good at all. It was not thick enough and was watery with a little bit chocolate and too much sugar. I won't go back there ever again and don't recommend this place to anyone

Famous place, always filled with children. I don’t usually have dessert so only tried it once. Ordered my favorite New York cheese cake and ultimate chocolate brownie. Both of them are amazing, but a bit too sweet lol. Feeling sugar floating in my veins.

Cup with dirty chocolate finger print, unfriendly service, I raised my hands for few minutes to call service , three service staff saw me but tried to ignore me, didn't apologies for what happened, the new one they changed for me was too light to be a dark hot chocolate @maxbrennaaus

One of the better max brenners. Good service, waffles always fresh. Tables not always cleared, and fruit could be fresher - old strawberries ect.

Food was great, table service appalling. The guy delivering the food tonight had less speed than startled snail. In the 40 mins we were there he was unable to clear one table, patrons had to clear their own to be able to sit at a semi clean table. Our cutlery was filthy and when we complained we were met with silence no apology nothing. He watched me dry my own cutlery from the wet bowl of semi clean cutlery, poorly washed. He was that slow that the ice cream started to melt. Had no interest in customer satisfaction and clearly no interest in his job

Omg! Max-Brenner! Where have you been all my life??

I've seen plenty of chocolate cafes, but this on is one of my favorites. If you have not had their amazing chocolate licks yet, you're really missing out.

Apart from that we also has the white chocolate mess and that was soo good. At first we freaked out at the quantity but once we started eating we finished in minutes.

So, anywhere I find a max-Brenner I'm definitely going!

We waited at the counter for 2 minutes to give our order while staff walked past us and didn't seem to even notice we were there. I ordered a soy cap which came out after a long wait covered in milk chocolate, which I can't drink because I can't eat dairy. After sending it back I then received a coffee that had completely curdled. I asked the staff for my money back and the girl who had made my coffee gave me a nasty look, didn't apologize and rudely placed my refunded money in my hand. I can't remember a time I have dealt with such rude staff at a cafe, I will never return

I loveeeee chocolates. Need I say more? 🙈 the cakes were delish, the coffee was good. Definitely a place to go for a chat with a friend. 😀

Amazing chocolate, ruined by lack of creativity and selections are often way too rich. Not to mention under-par customer service. Would come back just for the amazing chocolate.

Had the salted caramel tart here and was pleasantly suprised at how delicious it was. It was lovely and watm and the base was crumbly and buttery. Really delicious and soft and not overly sweet. Herbal teas pots here are a real novelty

They must have read the reviews here, because they certainly seem to have improved their service ! Quick to take orders, accommodative, reasonable serve times. AND they have SKIM MILK hot chocolate !!! I understand that not all Max Brenner outlets do this, so yay for the Belconnen outlet.

Weak froth. Popped in for coffee as it was cold windy day. Other places in the same complex were busy with customers getting warm, but this place was empty almost. The flat white was the weakest and worst - half a cup of frothed milk, barely any coffee flavour. So I skipped any eats, and would not go back. If you can't do coffee, you can't do anything.

Average. Each time I have visited Max Brenner Belconnen, I've always had an average experience. Not terrible, but not fantastic. The last time I went we ordered the chocolate fondue ( It usually comes with fruit, marshmallows, and banana bread). However, we aren't really keen on banana bread and marshmallows with chocolate fondue so asked if we could replace them with more fruit instead. We were happy to pay a little surcharge for this change... but we were told we would have to order another fondue (ontop of the original one) to cover the cost of the additional fruit. We promptly left.
We complained to head office, and they agreed the person at Belconnen Max Brenner failed to exert to common sense. They offered us coupons, but after that experience coupled with previous average experiences I have never been back. I would recommend this place if you wanted to have a quick chocolate fix, however if you're after a heavenly chocolate taste sensation I would recommend Koko Black or San Churros over this place.

This is a great place for a bit of indulgence! The chocolate is YUM! But, on the relatively few times we've visited, service is really slow, there are ALWAYS dirty tables; the wait staff bring out food & drinks and walk straight past tables with dirty plates, cups and glasses on them, back into the kitchen empty-handed. The last time we visited, we asked how long it would take (implying we were not able to be too long) and our chocolate pizza (which was really good when we eventually got it!) sat on the counter for 5 minutes getting cold & when we got up to collect it, the waitress insisted she bring it to our table and still served someone else before doing so! They've got the food / drinks sorted, now all they need to do is sort out the staff!

Alll the chocolate. I first went here back when it first opened and have enjoyed every time since.

Yes, the staff can be slow to clear tables but I've never had a problem with the speed of the meals.

I particularly like the Cookieshake, Thick italian hot chocolate (to the person complaining about it not being thick, they must have gotten a bad one, it's always been quite thick and delicious for me), Chocolate brownie sundae (like some sort of sweet, delicious death) and the waffles, mmm the waffles!

The only downside, for me, is the kids. I know, if I had kids, I wouldn't be willing to spend $40 on waffles and a shake for them and wish other people wouldn't either.

Great for kids. Too sweet for my taste. Place is looking tired, and a bit dirty. Understaffed but service was relatively quick. Wasn't very busy at the time we went though. If you like good coffee, go somewhere else. Kids really liked it though.

Terrible service. The service is appalling. Waited 40 minutes for 2 milkshakes and a juice. Dirty tables everywhere. Disgusting mess on tables not cleared for 40 minutes. Staff wander around with orders looking for tables. We were given someone else's order. Staff members on breaks sitting eating and drinking in full view of public. Some staff members untidy and slovenly. Our drinks were nice but nothing special. Ice had melted by the time we finally received our order. Staff are pretty clueless. Won't go again. Not worth the wait.

I come here very regularly with my 4 year old. The service is sooooo slow, whichever day you come. So come when u have the patience to wait for 30-45 minutes for a hot chocolate. The product is good.

You can't complain about the service ... Because THERE IS NONE!!! For the prices they charge, you expect the corresponding service. We tried 3 times, there won't be a fourth!!

Terrible service. Every time I have been every empty table has overloaded with dirty plates and cups- the wait staff deliver orders to the tables but don't bother clearing empty tables on the way back in. On my last visit there- it seemed to be very very busy and there were at least 2 staff sitting down at the bench on their break, another 2 goofing around with a feather duster and the rest of the wait staff don't know how to scan the floor for anyone who may need their attention. Very, very poor service- very over priced!

Slow service. Very, very slow service - they don't seem able to cater for the number of tables present. The hot chocolate is very nice, but the coffee was ghastly (bitter yet weak - re-used grounds?).
Dave
Terrible, terrible service for the incredibly high prices you pay. Yes the choc and drink is good but everything else about this place is terrible.

Bringing a little summin' summin' to Belco. I did really enjoy the chocolate fondue for two. I just didn't like the very long line up for something that is nice but not amazing. I'm an old man these days and don't really feel like lining up unless I'm going to be amazed!

I suppose that I was just surprised because I didn't expect to be lining up for Max Brenner in Belconnen. Having said that - maybe it is bringing something a bit new and exciting to the North and people are responding by turning up by the carloads!

Anyway, if you do come here, have the white chocolate chai. It's a lot of fun.

I’ve been to the Lemon Grass restaurant in Woden a few times. The food has always been nice. Last night was no exception. The service though was a little quirky. At one stage we had food and no plates and at other times plates and no food. All the servers looked unhappy and it appeared they didn’t have designated tables to wait on.
