Review Sushi Express - Belgrave

Lexican Man
If you buy the pre-made rolls you're all good. Don't ever get them made up if they run out of one. They always unroll and only half full of ingredients.

My Dad and I go every month. The food is always great. My dish is the Crispy Chicken. The Chef is so good it is exactly the same every time. Now that is saying something. Their new Establishment is now open for business. Looking forward to meeting there again on the near future. Well done for surving COVID19 shutdowns! Still no eating in due to Staff Shortages. I am sure that if you live close to Belgrave and need work; this place needs staff!

Stopped in today for the first time, pleasantly surprised at how good this Sushi was, the freshest Sushi I have ever had! Cute place, as well. I will be back :) Thanks.

Both the food and the service are amazing and reasonably priced. Sashimi is super fresh. Would be great if the noodle soup is less spicy but overall 5 star!!

Beautiful food. Very fresh and delicious. They have ready to go sushi but also menu and tables. My salmon curry is so yummy !! And there is a real railroad with an operating toy train which would send kids to the moon from happiness for sure !! 😊

Usually I get the crispy chicken curry. Today I ordered the usual and ended up with a fish dish. Rather disappointed as they're usually great with getting orders correct. Also disappointed the curry tastes watered down!

Really well made sushi rolls among other dishes. Friendly staff, neat and tidy restaurant. Definitely my go-to place if I'm passing by.

Love the sushi here. Possibly the best I've ever tasted. However, I was a bit disappointed though to be turned away at 7pm, when open till 7.30? Real shame.

Sushi is great; have now decided to work my way through the hot dishes. Yum!

Consistent sushi that is good but not great. Only problem here is the server with the face piercings. She often has an attitude problem. I have seen her arguing with customers so I just back off and treat her like a certain soup server from Seinfeld ;) Curry Katsu is also good...

5 star friendly service, massive main meals + the inside out rolls are huge and worth every cent. Full seating at the back of restaurant and very comfy. Most people go here for the simple hand rolls, but are honestly missing out on the full menu.
The Picky Rabbits
From a vegetarian's perspective sadly this is not an impressive sushi joint. Totally generic veggie options - the ones you find at EVERY run of the mill sushi house. No tofu in the sushi so little protein, and they use cage eggs so that rules out the egg options. Some of the great sushi places in the city are now getting much more creative with veggie sushi - tempura veggies, pumpkin, cashews, and different styles of tofu. Would be great to see some more options like that here.

Some of the cooked to order food was satisfying. Especially the teriyaki tofu which was great.

Fast service. Food fairly good (none of it came out on the train though). Kids enjoyed the tuna and avocado rolls. I liked the salmon sashimi. Seats could do with a bit of an update.

the sushi here is a little below average and prices are above average at around 2.70 to $3 a roll. rice was a little gluggy but at least the sushi rolls were fresh I guess. not the best sushi around by far, but not horrible I guess. would only come back if I was craving sushi and there wasn't any other option around.

Primarily a sushi take-away with some tables and benches for dining in, it resides behind a non-descript shopfront facade, and comprises bare decor and fairly utilitarian settings. However, the food was really good. I had the vegetable tempura platter, which was very tasty and enjoyable. There were a number of vegetarian choices on the menu, which earns some points with me. The service was very friendly and courteous, and we were made to feel welcome. Worth a try.

I think they are missing the point of the sushi train running empty and just bringing what you order from the menu. I'd like to see a normal train with food on it for you to pick from. The place was not very clean either with dirty tables, sticky seats, overpriced menu and tacky decor. Not somewhere I would return unfortunately as sushi is my favourite.

Came for a late lunch. Hubby had the beef don and a couple of tuna handrolls. I had the bento box with teriyaki chicken, sushi and seaweed and seafood salad. The seafood salad was too heavily dressed with mayonnaise, couldn't taste much else. Seaweed salad was your standard one you would find anywhere. The teriyaki chicken was tasty but sushi was pretty average. Not terrible overall but not fantastic.

Ridiculously good sushi at great prices! All hand rolls are $2.50 which makes for easy maths and an affordable meal. They stock the usual favourite sushi rolls as well as some unique ones I haven't found anywhere else. I go here every time I'm in Belgrave.

Amazing sushi! Great Prices.
Abundant Appetites
Probably the most exotic looking thing that we have is the bright orange squid salad. This is a cold, marinated and tasty treat. We occasionally swap this order out for the seaweed salad but recently, this has been the favourite.

Love takeaway- yum! Quick. Nice
Staff.

Hum not great....... Ok for a quick roll on the run but don't expect anything more :/ ordered tempura fresh vegetables and lotus root..... I got a plate of oily sweet potato nothing else . Was told that that was all they had. I don't think I will go there again.

Very good value bento box and love the spicy pork don. Be ready for a 30 minute when busy though or call and order in advance

Really really good Japanese food in the hills... Who knew? The quality & taste was superb & its become our fave takeaway since moving to the area.

Great for handrolls and I always find the service friendly and efficient. The Salmon Curry is a bit saucey and doesn't look like the picture. The seared Chicken is nice but not when crumbed. I go there at least once a week.

Good food very friendly. We are regulars at Sushi Express, have been going since it opened 3 years ago.
Don't normally post on these types of sites but thought I would this time just to challenge a couple of posts.

Gary Adler the service is generally very friendly.. you must have caught them on a very busy night.

Foodsnob... they don't even have crumbed pork on the menu so you clearly don't know what you'r on about.
My partner lived in Japan for 11 years teaching English and he says the food is great, the Teriyaki Chicken or Teriyaki Beef Dons are his staple on a Friday night..

Great Food // very busy. Very traditional in taste and flavours.
Salmon and Tuna sashimi was professionaly cut and presented and my Teriyaki chicken donburri was perfectly done. My wifes Salmon curry was fantastic she must have said that 4 or 5 times just on the way home in the car.
They were very busy (which is apparently normal for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights) and the service was only okay not bad but could be better. Disappointing they are not open on A Sunday.
We have been back for handrolls several times and they are always fresh, they even make to order if you ask.
Overall 8/10

Terrible!. It's exciting there's a japanese place out in the hills but sadly it's of poor standard. The chicken teriyaki was so sweet I couldn't finish it, the crumbed pork was stiff and chewy (not in a good way) and the service was bordering on rude. The nori rolls were so tasteless and bland and had a texture like they'd been sitting in the fridge for several days.
A wholly unpleasant experience!

Just popped in here randomly after a long drive trough the mountains, the food is fresh, fast and unbelievably tasty, the chicken teriyaki don is to die for. Do yourself a favour and go here.
Chris
Love it!. This is our local sushi & Japanese joint. We've been regulars for 2 or 3 years. There is a good choice on te menu and the prices are reasonable.
Beth
Awesome sushi place!

Good flavour, poor service. The food we received there was of a good standard and tasted good, however, the service was terrible, our food was left to wait for over 10 minutes right on the counter before someone twigged as to the fact that we hadn't received it. Upon realising, we were asked what we were waiting for, the person then said that's your food sitting there, and walked away and did not give it to us, despite it being on the service side of the counter.
