Review Nong Jia Yan Chinese Restaurant - Belmont

Mar/2018 Tried the ma pao tofu and the seafood omelette, The food was delicious and the portions significant. The restaurant is kind enough to provide doggy bags. Only minor gripe is that they have surcharge for credit cards. Keep up the good food! Jan/18 (2.5/5 Stars): The food is abit hit and miss. The food are large in portion and prices are more than reasonable. If you like spicy food this is thr place to go! However the last visit left a sour taste (or there lack of) when we ordered sweet and sour pork. The worst sweet and sour pork i've ever tasted, it tasted like sugar syrup there was no sourness it. Hopefully it was a one off mistake. Didn't doggy bag that dish ='(

Not too bad. Could be friendlier. We stopped here in our way back from the city as I saw their inviting fake lawn outside and thought it looked like a fun place to sit. The service was staggered, perhaps we came too early at 11am as they were empty but still seemed a bit preoccupied. Lobster $98 quite small - done with ginger and shallots was pretty yum very fresh and tender - pricey for lobster I’ve had before and a little too much garlic, I think they ran out of shallots so we got garlic instead. Salad was tasty but swimming in sauce, Chinese broccoli average and tea was served Luke warm. Three stars was generous. Service was inconsistent, sometimes helpful and other times distracted and aloof. Didn’t seem to care all that much. Maybe cos we Gweilo. Would not return, nice large space good for family and large groups.

The food is very good and the service from the staff was really good, very attentive. A lot of different dishes to choose from in the menu. I also liked the decor. The unique tables and chairs are pretty cool as well as the giant picture on the back wall.

Parking is at the rear. Make sure you order the non spicy dishes if you don't eat spicy food.

Definitely recommended to try! The food is always tasty ( there are a lot, a lot of choices), no matter the menu choice, it's been exceptional. Penny is lovely, has a great memory and always ensures great customer service, everytime and so does all the staff! It's rare to find nowadays and appreciate it when seen and acknowledged.

The extemely awful experience during lunch time in this place! First, the waitress and waiter keep pushing you to order drinks when you're reading menu. Secondly, the portion is too huge for two people. That's why the price is more expensive than that in other Chinese restaurants. By the way, the taste is not that good......nothing special...... Thirdly, the manner of the waitress is terrible. She doesn't say "thank you" when we finish the order. Am I begging you to feed me huh? To be honest, it's not worth going again!

Food is good. I ordered the bbq fish which is priced at 38 on the menu, buy I was told to pay $59 when I paid the bill. They said it is because the fish used is fresh live fish. Come on, U need to let me know it when I ordered the fish. I don't want to argue too much on my birthday.

I ordered their special menu only to discover it was a very spicy hot dish. On the menu there was no indication of the level of spiciness, like some restaurants menu display chilli icons to tell you it is spicy dish. The special menu was written in Mandarin so I do not understand. I also brought young kids and the waitress didnt advise this was hot dish.
When I asked about this, the waitress and the arrogant boss at the counter just brushed it off saying it was a mild dish. There were lots dried chillies and sechuan peppercorn in the dish and they called this was mild? At least they should have advised when I ordered. After paying they said no apology, no smile and certainly no thank you coming from either waitress or the boss. I have been a regular customer for more than a year and if this their treatment to a repeat customer I wont be back again. Shame about the attitude of the management especially the lady boss at the counter. Doesnt know about people skills. Rude and arrogant.

Don’t order the mao xue wang, the pork blood in it tasted a bit weird, don’t think it’s fresh. The grilled fish tasted good but is quite small. The duck with plum sauce tasted good but half of the dish is just bones with fat. Service is quite good and food came out very quickly (we were the only table when we got there) but don’t think will go there again.
