Review Imperial Palace - Bendigo

OMG this was the best meal. We left extremely full. Do your self a favour and eat here, service was fantastic and quick. Will definitely return again.

I’m sorry to say that the food was very poor. In the restaurant’s defense, I didn’t take it back and complain, so they didn’t have the chance to rectify. The sweet and sour prawns (battered) tasted like they were coated in an insulating foam and the sauce looked and tasted like sweet oil. The duck was similarly tough and tasteless and on the bone, which made it hard to eat. The sauce was very bland. Even the fried rice was poor (no detectable egg). I’m a big fan of Chinese food and it is generally very tasty. After a few mouthfuls we binned it. I’m sorry to say that the prawn crackers were the best part. I’m not the sort of person to leave negative reviews. I know that restaurants work hard to build and maintain reputations. I just felt so surprised at the poor quality of the food that I felt I had to.

We've just had amazing meals here. Entrees were very tasty (house made satay sauce 😋) Mains treated better than some of the pricey restaurants we've all eaten at. Desserts went down beautifully. Lovely staff

Started of good, entrees were very nice. Mains horrible. Very oily. $7 charge to have a can of coke indoor dining. Just put can on table, no glass or straw. They don’t even charge that for a glass bottle of coke at Bamboo House in Melbourne. Wont be back. This establishment is kidding itself.

We booked this restaurant as a last minute birthday booking and had the best night!! Staff were accommodating, friendly and overall food and service was wonderful! Waiters were chatty & familiar with menu & wine selection! As an out of towner, we'd do this place again!

The "real" cook must have been off the night we were there. Had to add pepper and soy sauce to each dish for flavour? Will not risk it again.

Melbourne Epicurean Juror
Whilst in Bendigo today I had lunch at The Imperial Palace (far from my first visit here). On this occasion I ordered their Chinese Chicken Omelette for $22, followed by a refreshing Banana Fritter, maple syrup and soft Ice-cream for $8. The omelette was truly delicious with plenty of chicken and was served steaming hot within 10 minutes ordering. The service provision was really great by Allan, (in regular waiter Randy's absence, on holiday) whom I've now known for several years. This is one of my favourite eateries in Bendigo & well worth a visit!

The Juror's Verdict: Food 4.5/5, Service Provision 4.5/5, Will I return: Definitely

Phill Jury (food critic & writer)

Good find in Bendigo. Really nice beef curry that had a nice heat. Good service, wine list and atmosphere. A safe choice for a nice meal. Rice dishes were also good.

Another in a long line of establishments that serve great starters and average mains. Started with the Chicken and Sweet corn soup, full of flavour and a very generous serve, actually one of the best I've eaten. For mains we shared lemon chicken, vegetables with tofu in garlic sauce and Singapore noodles. We asked for the lemon sauce on the side and glad we did as it was thick and lacked the runny and glossy consistency of a good lemon sauce though the chicken was perfect, moist with a beautiful outer crunch. The Mixed vegetables with tofu lacked a good amount of sauce and not a lot of tofu. At $16 I would expect more fresh vegetables and less canned water chestnuts and baby corn. The Singapore noodles were ok, nothing special and not as visually appealing as the other dishes. The service here is impeccable!
Food Is Life
Food is always excellent, staff are welcoming, the banquet is value for money and so filling!

Been a regular customer for years now and coming from someone who has traveled through asia, I can tell you that the Imperial Palace is some of the best.

Regular come here and never disappointed. Exceptionally good service with complex dishes coming out far quicker then most places in Bendigo.

I eat at many Asian dining establishments in Melbourne but this is the ONLY place I go to in Bendigo, which I feel is on par and surpasses what I get in Melbourne. Other Asian restaurants in Bendigo are mostly just your typical cheap flavour enhanced fried rice and noodle dishes while Imperial serves up some of the best tasting Mie Goreng, Mongolian Steak and Roti Canai I've ever had. It's a shame because most of the negs are coming from bog standard dim sim and fried rice dishes, please be a bit more adventurous people!

My partener steven warhurst and myself danielle gledhill had an order deliverd tonight by a delivery driver by the name of john (he wouldnt give us his last name).almost a couple hours after he delivered our food he charged us $64 for and didnot give us a recept for,(we gave him $70 and told him to keep the change,),he called us back to say we didnt pay him enough and come back to our house demanding the rest of the money witch he claims was the rest of what we owed him.i am soo unhappy with this as it was the delivery driver that was at fault, not us.he gets paid for his deliverys and if he claims he stuffed up the price when delivering our food almost a couple hours befor hand it is his mistake and we should not have to pay for that.i am so unhappy and upset with the cutomer service we receved from john the delovery driver from imperial palace in (Bendigo) and hope somthing gets done about it.upset,un happy, dissapointed!!

Best Banquets in Bendigo! Service was great for our Saturday lunchtime meals. Reasonably priced and very tasty.

Ordered three different dishes, they all tasted the same. Quite disappointing. Not awful food, but can't recommend it.

Dined for first time and decided to have takeaway. The food was very salty particularly the dim sims which left me wanting water all evening afterwards. Also had lemon chicken, fried rice and beef blackbean. The lemon chicken was nothing special and dry although the lemon sauce was good. The fried rice was the same except salty. Beef blackbean acceptable. Overall I would say the food was of dining hall standard Chinese dining.

Surprisingly good!. Searched high and low for yum cha in Bendigo over Easter Saturday to no avail! (Weird in a town with a Chinese heritage) We descended on Imperial Palace - 4 kids and 6 starving adults. Menu offered the traditional Australian Chinese suspects, but oh they were good! Service was efficient with plates coming out thick and fast. Vegetables fresh and crisp -sauces good and meat tender. We'll be going back again!

Dark and gloomy. Perhaps it was a dull day but this restaurant is a dark and gloomy space with service that doesn't put a smile on your face. Food is pretty average. The Yum Cha is very limited and too small for trolleys. If you are dying for Yum Cha and can't leave Bendigo - this is practically the only choice.

The staff at the Imperial Palace were very welcoming and we were swiftly seated. The menu also consists of Malaysian and Thai dishes.
