Review Mick's Fish - Bendigo

Second time our family has eaten here. Stopped in for a mid week lunch during school holidays. Service was quick and our order was spot on what we ordered. I think the prices are reasonable for high quality, obviously fresh seafood. We ordered a Seafood Pack for 2 and a Fish pack and a few extras. I was impressed that the raw fish is taken from the display cabinet and battered just before frying, although this does give a thinner batter than a double dipped fillet which has been slightly precooked with batter then dipped again for a thicker crunchier crust, which I prefer. Love a good crispy batter! Rest of my family prefers the single Dip like here. My fish was great, chips crispy, but I think slightly undercooked. Fried dummy and potatoes cakes were unfortunately ho-hum and not the best I've had, especially the dim sim which was dry and cheery. "Small serve" of chips were very generous, we couldn't finish them. There are tables and shade available to sit next to the off street carpark, but we elected to go across the road and enjoy our fresh meal at a picnic bench with lovely views of Lake Weeroona. I have to say I was disappointed that the shop didn't have Pickled Onions!! ...and when I asked if they'd run out I was told by the friendly girl behind the counter, that they: "Don't have them, ever, Our menu is different to other Fish and Chip shops.". ????? Sorry guys, you're not different, although you are high quality, your wares and items you sell are pretty much identical to any other Chippery in Australia, and not stocking pickled onions is a bad move!

Absolutely beautiful fish and chips. The young girls were kept very busy with a steady stream of customers. They were quick, efficient and polite their boss should be extremely proud of them. Thank you girls for a lovely dinner.

Had fish and chips and was disappointed.overcooked batter on fish, chips were soggy and flat. These were flat pieces of potato. Best thing was potato cakes. Not sure if it was just a bad night but there were 3 young females only working the shop. Won’t be going back.

Brilliant! 10 min wait on a Saturday night, chips were awesome, fish was fresh and the scallops were delicious.

Best fish and chip in whole of Victoria, not just Bendigo. Been voted best fish and chip for many years. You have no idea how good it is until you tried it. Fish is very fresh and the chip is golden brown and crispy. Must try! Now! ; )

Normally really good. Last 2 visits though have not been up to the same standard. Chips have been soggy which is unfortunate because their chips are normally amazing.

Best gluten free fish and chips. Wouldn't go anywhere else. Bonus is the customer service is excellent

Gluten Free available! Gluten free fish, chips, dim sims, squid and more. Awesome! Tasty but small pieces of fish for both gluten and gf free. Big burger buns but chicken inside was also small. Tasty chips cooked more like wedges with good flavour. Happy with our meals excluding the small size of the fish and the chicken.
