Review The Subtle Eye - Bendigo

Angela Tee
As a tourist I was trying to find somewhere to eat for breakfast, this place had really positive reviews, so I decided on The Subtle Eye. I came with my family, and the food was delicious. We came for breakfast and we ordered hot chocolates, which were so good, and we ordered a few of The Big Breakfast meals and a Smashed Avo on toast meal, and it was delicious. The portions were decent too, we were full at the end of our meal. Definitely recommend to have breakfast here!!! If I'm ever in Bendigo again, I will have breakfast here again. 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh my what lovely breakkies we had here while on holidays. Delicious generous meals and polite, friendly service. We'll be back for sure!

Great 9-Bean black coffee & an excellent lunch. Very smooth ambience with great tables for writing or laptops & comfortable chairs. Efficient no-fuss customer service with a friendly smile. Outdoor seating for the right weather conditions. On the list!

Excellent service and excellent coffee with a fantastic family friendly atmosphere. When asking if there were vegan options on the menu, the owner said "better ask the vegan". The cook, who is vegan, whipped me up the most amazing brunch salad as she was knocking off for her shift.

Heard great things about Subtle eye's coffee, so this isn't a discredit on their food or coffee. Was looking to sit down and have a coffee at their Cafe, after ordering some Grill'd. Was told I couldn't eat that here. Would of definitely understood if it was busy and they were trying to maximise profit, but bit disappointed i wasn't able to eat a meal, while enjoying their coffee at their Cafe. Maybe just something to consider for the quieter periods.

The panini here is probably the most delicious I ever had!

The subtle eye really does take notice of the small things. The coffee is amazing and the staff are very friendly and helpful. My breakfast was divine, eggs Benedict with perfectly poached eggs. I was excited to see it was traditional and with an English muffin. It was also presented beautifully. Only criticism was the muffin was cold. But the rest was so darn good it really didn’t matter. Thanks again.

Special pasta nights present a dining experience to savour. Rabbit ragu or Osso bucco ragu - both very rich and flavoursome. I can't go past the seafood sauce on tagliatelle or fettuccine: tomato-ey, creamy, tasty. Start off with zucchini flowers, stuffed with a lemony ricotta filling then lightly battered and fried; 2 are not enough ! I like that bread comes automatically, to mop up the last of the sauce! Of course, a short black coffee ends the meal nicely. Quite a small menu, but it's a very small kitchen. We will return as many times as it takes to eat our way through the menu; hope that takes a long time, as the food a really yum! Oh, and a short but not too shabby wine list, with some Italian options at acceptable prices. Do yourself an favour...

Overpriced, poor service. Didn't even get to sit down before they were taking orders. Coffee nothing special. Dark, univiting decor. Not going back

Best Coffee in Bendigo. Barista Rocks and knows exactly how I like my coffee. Anyone who takes their coffee seriously should give The Subtle Eye and Try!

Came here the other day at about 4:30 for coffee and cake and were very impressed. The girl who served us was really polite and took our orders before we sat down. Comfortable atmosphere, and our coffees were awesome. We shared a piece of the carrot cake and it was to die for!! Even though it was just afternoon tea, I loved it and would definitely recommend.

Hungry at 2pm ? Don't go past the Chicken Souvlaki on pitta - AMAZING ! Great staff & the music is at just the right level not too loud not too fast - it's Perfect 👍

Had the sliders and the chicken souvlaki. Sliders were good, chicken souvlaki really average. Restaurant interior was cute though. A tad expensive for what we got.

Excellent, friendly service; delish hot chocolate and great sweet muffin. Simple place, but they do things really well. If I was a local, I'd definitely be back.

Cosy café with good all day breakfast. Popped in to the Subtle Eye café in Bendigo for brunch today (my 2nd visit) and wasn't disappointed. I enjoyed my Eggs Florentine with Salmon & at $17 was good value, I'll be visiting again soon.

Phill Jury (food critic & writer)

Do not even think to start your day there. From the outside it is looking kind of inviting. The board outside said avocado smash and we have decided to go in. BIGGGGG..... Mistake. Coffee was horrible it looked like instant coffee, they did not have avocado.......... (go to the supermarket and get some)
I don't know why they have it on the outside blackboard the eggs Florentine was soggy and we tried the pesto bread with beetroot and that was so bad the pesto tasted bought in and very sweet.
The only good thing about this place was a clean toilet.
Guys if you don't know how to make coffee or brekfest this is not the business for you.
Sooooo disappointing :(

Don't know about the food out coffee but don't bother coming for lunch on a Saturday! The kitchen was closed when we rocked up at 1.30pm!

Coffee!. Great location! Only a small walk from my school, when I'm feeling like a caffeine hit or would like to catch up with friends this place is a great little spot. I have now become a regular, the coffee is great, the staff are very welcoming! Always back there. I am usually very selective as to where I chose to drink my coffees, and this place hits the spot!

This cafe was my stomping ground for such a long time when I worked in the CBD!
Being of Mediterranean decent, I am super fussy about my coffee and The Subtle Eye has never let me down (or my mother who is even fussier!) Illy is gorgeous coffee and I have always have a supply of it in our home since the cafe opened. Food is equally great and avoiding the beautiful Italian house-made cakes is always a tricky task -yum! Well done Tony - still going strong.

Amazing!. This place was amazing. Visiting from out of town it was central with friendly and helpful staff. Chicken Burger was the best I have even eaten and I must say so good I could not stop taking about it. Chicken was moist and tender and was very fresh. Hips i had with is where great ans i suspect three times feied ti get the crunch while being fluffy inside on such a thick chip! My wife loved her vegie panini and the coffee and selection of drinks and deserts was more than expected. The menu was small but if everything was as good as I had then you can't walk past!

Regular visitor. I have become a regular of the Subtle Eye because I finally have found a place where they make a nice long black coffee. Full of flavour, smooth after taste ( not bitter) and thick cremma that compliments the taste.
I also enjoy the variety of food and the staff are pleasant and friendly.

So anyone who follows me on Twitter knows that my favourite local coffee haunt is The Subtle Eye in Bull Street, Bendigo. I decided I couldn't take it anymore...every morning as I'm ordering my mocha, I see delicious breakfasts being delivered to the tables of people lucky enough not to be rushing back to work...and I wanted in! So one Saturday morning recently, we went for brunch...I got to take my time and relax with the paper and my pancakes, and as I sat there I wondered why we hadn't done this sooner. There is so much to love. Firstly, the warm colours and the visibility of the kitchen makes it fee
