Review Cortille - Bendigo

Madeleine Jones
Good coffee, yummy brunch options. Service is a bit slow but improving on previous visits, just don’t come if you’re in a rush! Lovely art on display, great spot on a warm day.

I enjoyed the food very much. The Japanese eggs were terrific. The coffee was a bit bitter but overall the breakfast was a very enjoyable experience.
Kiceanna
Scrambled eggs, bacon, sourdough toast and hashbrown accompanied by a freshly squeezed orange juice. 😊 All prepared perfectly to order in a comfortably cool setting. Not as many staff wearing masks as I felt there should have been during these times, but good service otherwise, and a nice atmosphere. 🙂

Wonderful little cafe with a cheerful interior and great meals. Service was fast and the food well plated. Some of the best poached eggs I have ever eaten. Was great to find something open in Bendigo on the long weekend.

Meal was excellent coffee was a little bitter this morning won't stop me coming back service was awesome as always

Great coffee and nice food. Actually the only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is two minor issues actually because you can’t fault the coffee and service, but we were inside and it was a little echoing and loud, but the juice, coffee and food were very good but I would have loved a little more chorizo in the baked eggs but other than that it was super yummy and the service was tops.

Friendly staff and nice set up. 2 out of 3 meals were good, bacon was cold and special milkshake dissappointing. Milk + syrup, no taste or texture of Cookies & Cream.
Valerie Nkala
The food was below standard. The veggie bowl was dry and no sauce was supplied. The juices and smoothies had an over powering taste of orange and other ingredients were barely detectable. The staff members were very rude , abrupt . Granted it was busy. But you can still be nice to people. Timothy was okay. FLIES EVERYWHERE!

Prior to Melbourne Lockdown 2.0 I came to Bendigo. Dined at Cortille on a Sunday for Brunch as not many other cafes were open. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options available. <br/>🍽 tofu scramble - this is something that I’ve been interested in trying on other menus but never have. Very tasty Thai flavours and you couldn’t tell you were eating tofu. <br/>Smash avo - standard, nothing spectacular.<br/>Chilli Scramble - was missing chorizo which appears to be a staple of chilli scrambles these days. however, the flavour of the scramble was very nice and had a nice chilli kick. <br/>With all of the meals (except the tofu) only one piece of toast was included. For the price, I was expecting a bigger portion and an extra piece of toast or an extra element (I.e chorizo) would’ve increased volume of the dish. <br/><br/>💁‍♀️very friendly and chatty staff. They were all happy to assist with menu choices. Food and drinks came out hot and on time. <br/>
Thought For Food
Very overpriced for what it is. Burger doesn't even come with chips (unheard of). Moroccan lamb looked like a half serve. Flavour was ok on both. Service was really good however and enjoyed the decor.

Awesome coffee and a really good breakfast menu with varied and modern options. It sure why this place isn’t rated higher?<br/><br/>In any case it’s a must visit if you are in Bendigo for a weekend and want a great brunch.

Cortille is one of our must stop destinations whenever we are in Bendigo. It's the funkiest little cafe right in the middle of town. It has the cutest decor and is extremely light and airy, with the coolest mural on the wall. I adore the little caravan as it's a real point of difference. Service is really welcoming and the staff are great at their job.<br/><br/>I'm a big fan of their raw treats, which are amazing with a cup of coffee. The perfect place to get a healthy treat in town. The coffee itself is also great. Everything is fresh and tasty, and served promptly. In a country town like Bendigo, it's great to find a cafe offering hip decor and healthy food with that country style hospitality.

Great food and awesome service... good coffee and nice street art on walls.<br/>Food tasty and satisfying. We had the lamb meatballs and Mexican jackfruit bowl. Highly recommend a visit when in Bendigo
That Vegan Dad
Came here on a Thursday morning and the place was dead, so it wasn’t the greatest of first impressions...<br/><br/>However, was greeted straight away and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. They have a couple of vegan options available and decided to go with the tofu scramble.<br/><br/>A different to what I’m used to, but the ingredients used resulted in an incredibly tasty dish. My biggest issue though was with the burnt and tasteless bread (toast) used. It tasted as though it was an unbranded bread, which really shouldn’t be case at a cafe’.

Pretty good overall. Went with my parents who enjoyed their meals very much (eggs Benedict and lamb bowl), but my spirulina and chia pudding was bland. The serving sizes were fairly small for the price. I would have appreciated if the breakfast menu had some more cereal/sweet options but otherwise choices seemed pretty good for more savoury dishes. Service was ok, we had to go up to ask for menus and water, took longer than expected to order, get cutlery on the table and for food to arrive despite the cafe being pretty quiet. It was open on Sunday which is a plus, but there are other places I would try first.

Cute (and surprisingly huge) cafe in Bendigo. Stopped in for lunch. Coffee was good, menu was quirky and varied. Meals were slightly smaller than expected but very fresh and tasty. Service was attentive and polite. <br/>Would come here again 🙂

Definitely one of the best cappuccinos I have had.<br/>The food was pretty good as well.<br/>Definitely a must visit.<br/>Ambiance and the service was pretty good.

As an experienced brunch foodie Melbourne, I am glad that Bendigo has a place that matches with Melbourne standard. From the point that I entered the place and have my coffee, I feel alive with Axil brand. The latte is so nice that I can give have one cup after the other. <br/><br/>Also, as this is the first time that I visited the place, given that only limited places are open in Sunday for brunch in Bendigo. I love the food that is being served, ordering a big breakfast but nice proportions so I managed to finish it. <br/><br/>The service is slightly disappointed as the waiter happen to forget my friend's extra order of poached eggs for her bowl. If the service is also up to standard, I would have given the place a 5 rating instead. <br/><br/>Generally I enjoy the place and would like to visit it when I am back in Bendigo in the future.

Nice menu and good coffee but unfortunately the service is slow and not very attentive. Had brunch here a few weeks ago and were still waiting for our meals 30 minutes after ordering. When I caught the attention of the waitress she said they were very busy, which they were, but our meals would not be much longer which was fine. 15 minutes later I tried to get the attention of staff but didn’t succeed so went inside to ask if our meals were coming and turns out they forgot to put it. The waitress did apologize and our meals came shortly after that but when we went to pay there was no mention or apology. I understand mistakes happen but I don’t really feel like it was an issue to them.

Very nice location fresh new modern look. The lunch menu although limited is top notch. The Moroccan Lamb was very tasty. The quantity was just right.
Mai Indasan
waited 45 mins for our food. so so not worth it. burger and chips 19 bucks same quality as hungry jacks. not worth the money and wait . staff apologised for the long wait.
Steph Giles
Felt like a little piece of Melbourne out in Bendigo, lovely bright and sunny cafe complete with coffee being served from a little van inside. Delicious sauce on the crispy chicken burger, they should use it as a sauce for the chips!

I am back at Cortille after my first wonderful experience a few weeks ago. The space is modern warehouse that is comfortable. The coffee is excellent and the neat little menu offers delicious options. Staff are attentive, warm and efficient in the midst of breaky and coffee hour.

Easy parking. Inviting quirky theme. Greeted by happy inviting staff. Table service, timely. Coffee good 7/10. Chilli eggs very good 8/10. Staff checked back with us re satisfaction. Overall 8/10.

I had the pulled pork benidict which was great! The staff were very friendly and had quick service. Would have liked some salt, pepper and sugar on the table though.

Visited yesterday for Mother's Day therefore very busy! Service was great; attentive, friendly staff. Coffee was delicious and food arrived quickly. Our table had 2 egg and bacon burgers, 2 serves of waffles, the smoked salmon and the pulled pork and poached eggs w hollandaise. The burgers were delicious but for $16 I'd have expected a side but everything else was fantastic and good value. Thanks for helping us spoil Mum and Gran! Would return

Been here a few times- food is great as is the coffee! Nice sitting out the front on a sunny day! Really enjoyed the tacos- soft, flavoursome and gluten free!
Coffelover92
Came here on a sunny day. We was welcomed by a big smile from the waiter. Straight away we got a table and ordered strawberry milkshake and a flat white. Coffee blend is from axil roaster and through the skilful hand of baristas here, it did not fail to bring the delicious. Strawberry milkshake was a bit too sweet for my friend but it was yum and refreshing. In the menu they have vietnamese cold drip which i think it was cold drip coffee and it was a bit awkward for me cause im viet and we dont really have any cold drip coffee back home incase they use vietnamese coffee bean to make the drip? Overall it is a good cafe, definitely coming back.

The vegan scrambled eggs went down a treat! Absolutely delicious range to choose from. The use of quality ingredients leaves a satisfied customer. Wait staff were friendly and the joint was super clean. Chef has a sound understanding of the importance of simplicity and combing quality ingredients to create very flavoursome meals. Shall be back again!
The Whippeteers
HOW cool is this place?  They've got the barista set up IN A CARAVAN................IN THE SHOP!<br/><br/>Yes, The Whippeteers enjoyed a LIGHTNING QUICK stop at Cortille last Sunday. <br/><br/>They use AXIL coffees.  They KNOW what they're doing.  We heartily recommend "Cortille".

Excellent food and service.<br/>Great surprise, exceeded my expectations.<br/>The beef brisket bun is fantastic.<br/>Highly recommended option for a quick but full of flavour lunch.

Had breakie here recently with my friend the baked eggs were just as good as first time my friends pork burger was also good <br/>The service was not up to scratch however as we had ordered coffee and waited and waited a table of 6 arrived and were seated and served drinks and still we waited eventually had to ask waitress who relied oh I will check how they are going🙄then oh they are on there way😕tip for your staff when you clear plates take the time to ask customer if they would like another coffee or anything else it seems to be a problem with quite a few cafes in Bendigo<br/>Sad to say went here for breakfast lukewarm coffee poor service and my friends breakfast was terrible cold mushrooms we asked about and waitress went and got some more given my friend was halfway through her dish was pretty poor she was not at all impressed cold coffee by now paid and left no apology will not be rushing back😞

Bendigo Wholefoods peanut butter, tomatoes, black pepper and peanuts on toast. Winner! The new addition of the room next door is a good addition.
Allie
I realise they were busy but I got possibly the worst take away coffee I've had, after paying 4$ for a small coffee, it took about 15 minutes to appear, and then was luke warm, burnt tasting and half froth. Not super impressed! Hope it is better when they are not busy. The decor is cool though.
Foodies.and.Coe
This place is so cool, i love the industrial feel.... like who has a caravan in their cafe. Service was good, drinks was great, food was scrumptious. I enjoyed creating my own waffle accompanied by a banana spice blend. Would recommend.
Rida Su
Really like this little cafe, the atmosphere, also the 1st cafe who putting me on a waiting list. Amazed by the fresh food and the food truck, feels like eating in Rome!
Trevor Man
The food here is good. But the staff were pretty rude to us to be frank. I'd expect this from a top notch Melbourne eatery - but come on guys! Not the best...
BlueberryHill
Love this cafe! A small but really well considered menu. Everything is really fresh and great quality right down to the condiments; great beetroot relish and the yummiest mustard I've ever eaten (big call I know). Today we shared the pulled pork jaffle (served with the aforementioned mustard) and poached egg with avocado, asparagus, peas, smoked salmon, beetroot & feta. Yum x 2. Good coffee too and friendly staff. There were a lot of people waiting for takeaway coffees so worth factoring in if you're in a hurry. Currently working out whether we go back tomorrow or try somewhere else :-)

Blown away by this one! I did my research and booked this cafe for a family catch up. The menu looked good but I really didn't expect Bendigo to match the Sydney cafe scene. Cortille stood the test! <br/>The cafe appears small from the outside but has a huge upstairs area and also a courtyard. The staff were so friendly and helpful - they went above and beyond and were great with the kids. <br/>The coffee was on point. The menu? Absolutely up my alley. A range of super healthy options but also enough options to indulge if you're that way inclined. Special mention to the ricotta hot cakes - incredible.<br/>A must visit!

Excellent cafe. Great coffee (like, Melbourne great... Sorry for the pretension) and super friendly staff. I like to hang here when waiting for appointments and never feel rushed.

Nice to visit a town and make a discovery. Very pleased with the find and will definitely be back when next in Bendigo. Good coffee and yum food.

Typical Retro Themed Café. Friendly & welcoming staff. If you are hungry and want something bigger than a kids meal then don't order chile scrambled eggs. As it is the most stingy portion size you could get. $14.95 will get you 1 piece of toast. with colourful spicy eggs. Ridiculously stingy! As for ordering bacon and eggs, the serving size is slightly better, but if you enjoy real bacon and eggs you wont get it here. You get the warped idea of (the healthy bacon option) without the tails. Which is manicured of all the tasty bits/? Why the F! do cafe's think that tastes nice. But don't worry if you enjoy a proper serve of bacon in a tastier allegedly unhealthier way, then just pop round the corner to the Epicurean Café as they do know how to cook real bacon and eggs, dishing out massive portions which would satisfy the hungriest of people. Overall the atmosphere is good the staff are friendly but definitely not good value for money. After being served the comical sized 1 slice of toast and barely two eggs I left  still hungry and will not being going back there in a hurry.
Laura
Super cute place with great food, coffee and juice. The mushrooms with nut crumble were great paired with avocado and sourdough and the 'breathe' juice was delicious. There were a couple of small hiccups with the service - it was very slow and the waiter made a couple of mistakes with the order but nothing major. The staff were all really lovely, too.
Zoe L
Cute cafe. Went here for a lunch, service was a bit slow but the wait staff were really friendly. Good juice, good coffee, mixing up the sides and adding extras was no issue and things were easily made vegan. Avocado and grapefruit was delicious, highly recommend.

Great food, great style, friendly staff. A true gem!
Laura
Fantastic. Rushed in for a quick bite to eat with my mum on Mother's day. The man you served us was genuine and friendly and our meals were served super fast (10min) . Thank you so much
Erin Bell
Slow service and cold food. Came here this morning with a group of 5 other people and all of our food came out cold and the multi grain toast was as hard as a rock. Service was slow. It's real shame because I think this is a really cute looking cafe and the prices are really reasonable. Seriously need to lift their game with their food, because I'm not the first person to have had this experience. I've been told by a lot of friends that they have also been served cold food that they've waited over an hour for. Not only is it disappointing, but a health risk also. Won't be going there again.

Best Coffee in town... Well where do I start. ....<br/>Part of my job is building client relations and what better way than to get a solid 15 minutes with your clients than over a cup of coffee!! I have purchased coffee's from all over Bendigo from 2 cups to sometimes 15 at a time and its Cortille's coffee that is always the #1 choice. On average I would purchase 30 mugs a week, from Chai Latte too half strength capp's, nothing ever seems a problem. I always ring through my order and 15minutes later I arrive with my taylormade coffee carrier in hand, the friendly staff load me up, stamp my card and I'm on my way.... Fantastic service + Fantastic coffee = HAPPY CLIENT. . THANKS TO ALL INVOLVED

Fabulous food, staff and atmosphere. Absolutely love going to this cafe. There is such a diverse variety of delicious food and drinks to choose from. Great coffee too! All the staff are wonderful. My favourite thing about this cafe is that it is run by locals who give back to the community. I highly recommend this cute cafe!

Above and Beyond!!!!. I was up in Bendigo for Groovin the Moo over the weekend from Melbourne and stumbled across this intriguing cafe where there is an old caravan through the entrance where they make there wonderful and great tasting coffee. Our meals were mouth watering, coffee was fantastic along with the service. Taking into considering how busy this cafe was i could not fault the service along with the assertiveness of staff. Definitely a must if you are in Bendigo and looking for something different... 10/10

Hidden Gem in the heart of Regional Victoria!. What isn't there to say about this unique venue! From the moment we were greeted by the lovely staff at the front door, the experience was as good as we have had. The house made beer burger w/ american mustard on a beautifully baked brioche is arguably the best burger I've come across. The Fresh Prince fresh juice is a must for a refreshment on a hot day, and most of all the axil coffee is impossible to pass up. Highly recommend.

When walking through this crazy cool café’s entrance, I couldn’t help feel like I was back in Melbourne. A massive old school trailer is parked in the hallway, where they serve take away coffee and cake to eager beavers throughout the week. A bit further in, there is a beautiful display cabinet of cakes and tasty morsels you can grab to go, or sit down and enjoy. Then there’s this contraption. I assume it has something to do with coffee, perhaps a cold drip – comment below if you know what it does!

1hr 45mins later. And the food was freaking amaze balls. <br/>I would have loved to have left that scathing review up all alone, but I can't when the food was delicious. <br/><br/>Their mustard beans were very nice, the harissa chicken very tasty and the Chilli eggs were pretty different too.<br/><br/>It's unfortunate that staff have to be the face for the chef, but if you want a tip communicate better with your patrons so we don't run late for work or miss the train back to the big smoke.<br/><br/>Food is great, service staff nice but that wait is ridiculous. <br/><br/>Get it together. But still kisses for the deliciousness.<br/><br/><br/>-----29 Mar, 2015-----<br/><br/>Still waiting, frustrated and damn hungry. It's so disappointing coming back home to bendigo and trying out these places my family and friends suggest. <br/><br/>I get told things like 'the food is beautiful' and 'the staff are wonderful. '<br/><br/>Bendigo, you have lost your regional work ethic. We were told 'there's a wait on the meals, something like 25 to 30 minutes. ' <br/><br/>I understand a chef can only work at a certain pace. But delivering meals to the people beside us that wait only 10 minutes compared to our 1 hour and 15 minutes is not on. <br/><br/>The waitress let us know that the reason why that happened is because their meal were easier to plate.<br/><br/>The manager just came while I'm writing this to apologize, stating that he had a table of 12 blah blah blah. That still doesn't excuse serving the table closest to ours first. <br/><br/>There's a school in Melbourne you can go to learn some table service skills and also how to manage a restaurant dealing with people's expectations.<br/><br/>These guys boast on the menu about the awards they've won for service, food and the likes. If this is what bendigo has to offer I think I'll move my cafe down here to show you what real service looks like.

From out of town and stumbled across this cafe for lunch....what a great find! Brilliant food and great vibe. We even came back for breakfast the next day!

New menu is disappointing. As a regular to Cortille because they catered to vegans, I have to say their new menu is disappointing. There is now only1 menu option for a gluten-free vegan to choose from. The black rice and kale salad was lovely, but that's all there was to choose from. Alot of disappointment from Bendigo's vegan community.
Jade
Waited 20 minutes for two take away coffees. Place was not packed so do not understand why it took so long, poor service.
Luke Sorrenti
Service was really good and the food was amazing <br/>I highly recommend it and will definitely be returning

Very very average. Something about this place just felt off from the second we walked in. The staff were nice enough, but the upstairs sitting just feels a bit like a cage due to the very few windows. In regards to the food, all the dishes were very underwhelming and the roasted field mushroom in particular was cold (as though it had been sitting on the pass for a while) and had no seasoning whatsoever. The chai tea was also way to strong, so much so that my mouth was literally on fire and I couldn't finish it. All in all, the best thing, and the only thing I would return for, was the coffee.
Lainey
Wanted to love it but the baguettes let it down. I love the space, very quirky and interesting (sloping stairs, comfy couches, mismatched chairs, shell of caravan inside!). The staff were fine too. However it didn't hit the mark for me. The hot chocolate was good, made with real chocolate bits not powder or sauce but it was served lukewarm. The baguettes were extremely tiny for the price!! Felt hungry afterwards because they were that small (and pricey, $12+, you need two). The pork belly + crackling one had such unbalanced flavours. There was so much chilli jam and the 'grated fennel and apple' was non existent. My mouth was on fire :( The pork itself was fine, with crunchy crackling but overall incredibly disappointing. <br/>Would try somewhere else next time in Bendigo. Expected much better for this rating.

Diners from the Mornington Pen..... 92%!! Cortille... Voted top brekkie/brunch/coffee spot in Bendigo- so we tried it ...and yes, we agree; it's the BEST!! Enjoyed delicious coffee, scrumptious, sensibly-priced food, served in the courtyard, by cheerful, friendly, helpful staff. Don't miss the brekkie quesadilla with homemade chorizo, fresh spinach and avocado spears, with capsicum tapenade and Meredith goats cheese, wrapped in a light egg omelette...YUM! Or the smashed avocado and smoked salmon on toasted sourdough, topped with lightly scrambled egg, served with homemade beetroot relish...we'll be back!

Enjoyed breakfast at cortille on Saturday morning! Coffee was good and the eggs Benedict on corn bread with bacon was really enjoyable! Quirkey setting which make it's a unique dining experience. Will return again :)

Excellent newcomer. I was waiting to see if it was all a fluke: my first punchy, floral, carefully-extracted coffee experience, and the well-considered, well-executed food. But no: I heartily recommend you do yourself favours and partake.<br/>Locals know Brewhouse and Old Green Bean have raised the cafe bar in recent years, and I'm very glad to report Cafe Cortille raises it further.<br/>It's one thing to have good product but it can be butchered: thankfully the good folk here treat their beloved Axil beans with tenderness, extracting all the goodness, and the menu is full of quality choices. Go.

Up from Melbourne over the long weekend and came across this place. What a hidden gem! They have a caravan inside, use Axil Coffee from Hawthorn and their menu is as good as any cafe in Melb! So impressed with the What Did I Do Last Night (their big breakfast) and my girlfriend loved the vegetarian brekkie - Stuffed Flat Mushroom on a bed of polenta (which looked amazing!) The staff were so attentive and actually cared about the place, rather than just doing their job. It really showed in the quality of the coffee, food and service. Well done Cortille! Hats off. We'll be back!
Adele Is The Best
Love this place!. I absolutely love Cortille. Great location right in the centre of Bendigo, and the staff create such a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Can't go past the Braised beef cheek baguette. Reasonable prices whilst still getting well presented food and professional service! The coffee is great too.
Spoonfuls Of Wanderlust
Verdict? The quirky space was cosy and comfortable, while the food was fresh and delicious. The service was pretty slow and we even had to wait over 20 minutes for our coffees, but we understand that it was a very busy weekend and the venue was absolutely packed, so obviously the staff and kitchen were just a bit overwhelmed. Overall, a very nice spot for brunch.
