Review The Green Olive - Bendigo

Best coffee in town! Great place to catch some caffeine fix!

Went for a Sunday breakfast and needed to wait over an hour for our food to arrive. Other customers who ordered after us asked where their food was and the worker would respond with “it’s being plated now”. They also appeared to be working with the cafe next door Bath Lane Cafe as they would be walking food out of the kitchen across to their seats and visa versa. Perhaps not enough kitchen staff working today? Once the food arrived it was quite good, and shout out to the female barista who was clearly very stressed and was still producing great coffees.

The Green Olive quickly became our go to place for awesome coffee, delicious breakfasts and the staff are wonderfully friendly and personable - one of the pleasures of visiting a good cafe is great staff. The almond milk coffee's are smooth and full flavoured and very moreish, highly recommended. Inside, the space is light and airy, pretty in shades of green and white with sparkly fairy lights with big picture windows to sit in and watch people go by. Breakfasts are great from the heart shaped pancakes to chia pudding bowls and bacon and eggs, well worth a visit. Thank you so much!

We got bad service and our chips weren't cooked properly, my bagel was absolutely smothered in tomato relish so I couldn't eat the bottom half, the bagel bun wasn't toasted enough and the roast veggies were luke warm. The topdeck hot chocolate was the only decent thing. Definitely will NOT be coming back, it ruined my Sunday morning.

Service was nice and friendly. Coffee was nice and enjoyed it. Was freezing inside the cafe so we sat outside. I ordered the salmon bagel with scrambled eggs the dish was served cold, it was meant to come with avocado and they didnt remember to put it on. I asked for it and they bought it out. Disappointing dish was basically tasteless. The hollandaise served with it was nice. I asked for it on the side which they did but, it was still all through layered in the bagel which i didnt want. They dont have proper pepper grinders its pre cracked pepper which is tasteless. The dish needed proper seasoning ot just some dill and the bagel needed to be buttered. My partner enjoyed the pulled pork benedict.

I rarely give 1 star but Olive Green in Bendigo deserves one star. The worst potato and leek soup I ever tasted (if u can call it a soup at all) which I had a spoon and turned it back to the kitchen. Came with two halved piece of supermarket standard white bread which was described as sourdough on the menu. What really upset me was that no one came to apologise though the serving staff acknowledged that it looked way too watery to be potato and leek soup. the experience really ruined my precious Sunday morning and time in Bendigo.

Stopped in here for a relaxing brunch. Friendly, laid back staff and delicious food. I had the baked eggs and a side of mixed vegetables. Absolutely delicious.

Front of house person cold sharp and sour faced, cafe was very cold when asked about the heater i was told its on!!! I will be looking to somewhere a lot warmer with approachable friendly staff.

Four of us had breakfast here; two were pleased and two were disappointed. Two asked for the yolks of their poached eggs to be hard whereas I expected mine to be normal - mine was hard too. The waitress did say I should have sent my breakfast back but by that time the cafe was packed. The fourth breakfast on the whole was good but extra mushrooms consisted of one & half slices - not worth paying the extra especially as the basic breakfast was already a bit pricey. Unlikey to go again as not from Bendigo.

So happy for Aaron to have taken over the reigns at The GO! Coffee is perfect and I love that him and Libby can spot me coming and have my coffee being made as I walk in the door! I’m yet to try the food but it looks delish!

Great food great service great coffee the best café in bendigo

The scrambled eggs were very yummy and came out quickly... but $4 for only the short-cut of bacon is a bit steep when everyone knows the middle part of bacon is the best bit... so a bit disappointed overall...

5 out of 5 just doesn't seem enough. The turnaround in service and atmosphere in just one week is remarkable.

Absolutely fantastic coffee, food and service. Always a pleasure to pop in for a coffee and be greeted with a smile!

This is a no frills cafe situated in a narrow street with a real corporate feel not usually associated with a country town. I had the veggie wrap (toasted) which was really good. It contained a generous amount of halloumi, tomato, peppers, pumpkin, lettuce and a nice mustard sauce, just perfect for a work lunch. The coffee was also good so no complaints here.

Great breakfast and excellent friendly service!
I was given the option of dining in or taking away.
I didn’t have to wait long for my food.
Can eat outside or inside.
Thank you for a wonderful breakfast!

First visit to the Green Olive Cafe, a little uninspiring, nice cafe but not a lot of wow factor on a street with many cafes.
I had the veggie delight to take away, it was a decent portion size, some of the veggies were under cooked & still very crunchy.
The mar bar slice was a tasty treat & very generous with the portion size also.

We were in town from Melbourne today and stumbled upon this gem! Best brunch we have had in ages. The menu caters very well to vegetarians which is so refreshing! We had the crushed avo with feta, mushrooms and added haloumi, it was divine! We will be back for sure
Bonjourbonjour
Used to be great has gone down hill over the years definitely needs a revamp and menu is just you basic cafe menu nothing spectacular.
Coffee is okay.
Great location but not the best.

Came here with friends the other day. Very average food with a few mistakes on the orders. Staff were polite but made no real apologies about the mistakes. I will not be back.

A work trip into regional Victoria meant that we got to check out the local cafe for brunch so everyone was winning! We stopped by The Green Olive, a cafe where it was located in warehouse which is pretty cool. When you step inside, the whole interior is very warehouse-y and casual. The lovely staff hands you the menu and you just order at the counter. My workmate got the smoked salmon caesar salad. The poached egg was cooked perfectly and was egg-tastic. I found that it was a touch on the bland side but nothing a little bit of salt can fix.

Bendigo brekkie was as you'd expect in country Vic, hearty and wholesome. Scrambled eggs, tomatoes & mushies. Not quite Melbourne standard but the coffees and mocha were outstanding. Actually better than I've ever had in Melbourne! Love the area this cafe is in in Bath Lane, very cute.

Very disappointed. Had heard great things about this place. Thought we'd try it, but won't be back. Waited over half an hour for 2 Caesar salads that arrived with very limp lettuce and a combination of fresh and stale croutons (they were either crunchy or really chewy). Also asked for no anchovies, however there was an anchovy flavour brought it the salad. Shouldn't have stuck around for coffee either.

Pleasantly surprised! Ordered beer battered chips, chicken and bacon wrap, pork belly and a coffee! Everything was really tasty and fresh, especially the chips, some of the best beer battered chips I have had! Huge portions too, this place isn't stingy!

had the risotto, it was one of the best risottos i have had. it was full of flavour and had a great creamy texture. the only bad thing i have to say about this place is that the waitresses did not seem to enjoy there job.

Dirty and terrible service. I went into The Green olive on the weekend. It was supposed to be a special day for my friend and I and we wanted to make it memorable... Well, TGO made in memorable but for all the wrong reasons. The glass that my drink was served in was dirty and there was food scraps on the cutlery. My friend ordered the Tassie Devil and it was so cold that she couldn't finish it. I ordered quesadillas and it was tasty but I did have high hopes that it was fresh chicken, not the pre-sliced, frozen variety. I was sorely disappointed. The waitress looked like she was on her last shift and didn't particularly care what impression she gave to the patrons. She was cold and unwelcoming and she seemed as tho she was in some other land. The other waiting staff were dressed in faded old jeans and one of the girls had a big tear in her shirt and it looked so worn that we joked about their uniform coming from Salvo's. Seriously disappointed and incredibly baffled at the amount of people that just kept coming... Maybe they have a different set of rules for the regulars?! What ever their game is, I'm not ever going back to find out.

Rude staff. Went there yesterday and had a late lunch with my partner. He had the eggs benedict and I had a toasted wrap. The food was amazing but the staff are unbelievably rude. They act like they are too good to serve some people and they mumble when they speak and just generally made us feel like we were a burden. Sad because I won't be coming back because of this, no matter how good the food is I can't justify making myself interact with self-centred arrogant staff. Won't be recommending to anyone.

Leo. I have been to the new Green Olive in the Bendigo Industrial area on 3 occasions as I love the main store. Each time at the new store there has only been one person working resulting in dirty dishes scattered around the place on all tables and a lengthy wait for coffee. On 10/03/15 I gave it another go. I ordered 2 coffees and half an hour later I was asked what I had ordered. Not good enough and I won't go there again. Store has potential but sadly it is badly run and understaffed.

Horrible Breakfast. Honestly the worst breakfast I've had in Bendigo. Ordered poached eggs on toast but what I received was more like boiled eggs. As the eggs were boiled gained no enjoyment out of the sourdough it was served on. So dry and hard to consume. Was with a group of friends and only one of the four of us received an egg that was runny, even then it barley moved.

Coffee was good, Food was awesome had an egg and bacon sandwich to takeaway ( usually takeaway food is bad) loved the selection looking forward to getting back and eating in sometime.

Good afternoon folks - just took my family to lunch at the green olive in bath lane.
Disappointing from the start to end.
Firstly - Had to ask for menu's.
Then - no milk tea
Then - they mixed up husband and dad's steak sandwich order - egg not soft as requested and no bacon on one, then bacon on the other.
Mine and my mothers risotto lacked flavour and the risotto was made with long grain rice, rather than arborio rice. Mum had duck config and I the had vegetable. Mine arrived without the goats cheese. The duck was so dry and tasteless, Terrible dinning experience. Just a tip for the wait staff - customers pay your wage. Try to get people's orders correct!!

I was really impressed! The coffee is great (& I'm a super-critical coffee snob!) & the food items we ordered (Chicken club sandwich; eggs with salmon & hollandaise on English muffins; and rice "pudding" from breakfast menu) were all great quality & really tasty. While I'd prefer table service for order-taking, the staff were pleasant, got all the orders accurate (including the without-this, add-that type adjustments) and were genuine & friendly. One tip: holding the door open as you're exiting or entering and someone's coming in behind you wouldnt kill you! (or is this a Bendigo thing to let doors shut in the face of people behind you; we encountered that a LOT during our weekend stay!).
Overall: the Green Olive gets a hearty tick of approval from someone who eats out a bit and enjoys great food, perfect coffee and nice service (ok, maybe fussy too!). We will be back!

Very nice egg and bacon sandwich for brekky. Simple and tasty !

Went for lunch there today, had the club sandwich and a coffee, the coffee was beautiful and nice and hot! Very quick service, food was brilliant and nicely priced. Friendly staff, good atmosphere. Strongly recommend.

Green Olive. Our new local cafe' having moved from Melbourne.
The coffee is consistently good as is the food and service. A later close on Saturday would be handy for us who enjoy an afternoon wine but I do understand that the staff and owners need a break!

8 years ago it was at the top of the list and great. Now, very very ordinary. Fresh juice was the best thing here today. Chicken and veggie "pie" should have had a spoon being more soup with a top. Bland to say the least. BLT should have had a small B as only 1 tiny piece. Tastiest thing was the skewer! Definitely not recommended for a meal.
Yummo
Hmmmm. It was ok. Just a normal cafe set up; order at front counter, seat yourself. Truthfully I couldn't fault the food was as it was beautifully presented and tasty, but the coffee was cold and our waitress looked like she'd rather be any other place. But will go back, I'm optimistic.

Always amazing eggs Benedict here, have had it plenty of times! Coffee is top notch, always new and interesting specials on the menu. Love this place!

Not a bad brekkie. I had breakfast here this morning. I'm a little bemused by a recent reviewer who made mention of the "little sign on the wall" asking people to order at the counter, because it quite clearly states on every page of the menu that you need to order and pay for your food at the counter.
On to the food - I had the mushrooms with crushed avocado and marinated feta on sourdough. It was very tasty and a more than ample serving for breakfast. I was tempted by the Tassie Devil but I wasn't hungry enough for the implied quantity of food. The coffee was good although a touch too hot. The only criticism I have is the orange juice I also ordered arrived after the food and at the same time as the coffee. Otherwise a pleasant start to my morning of food shopping.

Waiting Game. Visited on a recent Saturday late lunch when cafe was not very busy. Staff did not advise that orders must be made at the counter (& yes, I missed the fairly small sign on the wall), so we waited for ages before learning about the ordering system. Then it was another very very long wait for a sandwich for my companion and risotto for me. Food was ... adequate.

A much better cafe compared to its rival next door (Bath Lane House Cafe), bigger and looks fresher inside. Food is also better and taste good, coffee is nice (uses coffee basics bean, castlemaine), and good service overall. The Tassie devil is nice, all component fits well together, and eggs were poached properly. Pork & fennel bun on daily specials was tasty. The mixed juices were nice too (they have like 12 or more varieties), although I think they might have gotten my juice wrong (but I don't mind). Overall a favourite cafe on Bath Lane, Bendigo.

Love it. Used to live in bendigo, now I make the effort to visit The Green Olive anytime I'm home. Good coffee, fresh innovative pasta specials and nice deli items for sale.
Always a go-to place!

Great place for good wholesome food. Had the gluten free brownie and coffee to go. Very very nice. Will go out of my way to call in and get a decent coffee. Don't get rid of the Barista from the 4/9/11. Make sure you pay him well.

Brunch. Good place for brunch. Had a delicious steak sandwich. Coffee well done, but not piping hot.

*Just a quick review, for a quick lunch* =) Warm & inviting ambience, with quite a few interesting things scattered across the walls and displays. Chicken & pesto risotto - mildly overcooked risotto (not quite al dente) with tender strips of chicken marin

We didn’t have to wait long at all, despite how busy the place was. Dave’s steak sandwich looked fantastic and I quickly developed food-envy, but my chicken club sandwich was well presented too. Quartered into triangles and held together with skewers, it had all the parts – chicken and bacon with lettuce, tomato and mayo between three slices of bread – served with a bowl of beer-battered chips and a pot of aioli.
